Do I need a program to convert wma to itunes (aac?)-or can iTunes do it?

I have a lot of music that doesn't even show in the music folder of my iTunes library, and the program wont let me import them to convert within iTunes. do I need an independent program, or is there a trick to bring them into iTunes, and then convert? So far, under either 'import' or 'add to library', if its wma, iTunes just ignores the attempt to get the songs into the program.....
Thanks,
F

go to http://crunchgear.com/2007/06/20/musicgiants-wma-lossless-music-drm-free/
and read about WMA lossless format! (there is actually Super HD at 11,000 bitrate).
it begins:
MusicGiants isn’t the most well-known online music download service out there, but they’ve been pumping out WMA Lossless files since 2005. Until a couple weeks ago, all of the super hi-res files were locked down with Windows Media DRM, but no more! Right now you can only get Paul McCartney’s Memory Almost Full DRM-free in truly bit-for-bit identical quality to a CD, but by this fall, MusicGiants will release lots more titles that you can pirate share at will. (The company hasn’t done an official press release yet, but MusicGiants CEO Scott Bahneman recently spilled the beans to Stereophile.)
It sure makes the iTunes Music Store’s 256Kbps AAC files look pretty wimpy, and it even trumps 7 Digital’s DRM-less 320Kbps MP3s. Will you hear the difference? If you have a super hi-fi audio rig at home then it’s a good bet you will. If you have an iPod, then no, because the iPod can’t hang with any WMA format.
That officially makes MusicGiants’ files the highest-resolution DRM-less downloads around. Which begs the question: When will Steve Jobs let us download Apple Lossless files on the iTMS? Another question: When will more portable players support WMA Lossless?

Filling in the Album Artist will fix things most of the time, though if you also have an older iPod then you might find the album splits up again on your device. For more information see my article on Grouping tracks into albums.

  • How to convert wma in iTunes for MAC to mp3

The iTunes support manual mysteriously indicates that iTunes for MAC can convert WMA files to other formats, but doesn't tell me how! How do I convert the WMA files to mp3? When I google, I keep getting links to other sites and I'm not sure how to pick a trusted site.
    iTunes 11 for Mac: WMA
Windows Media Audio; a digital audio file format created by Microsoft. iTunes can convert WMA files to other formats.

Peabody, for me, Adapter is the ticket, and a free one at that. Quick, easy to use, nice interface and very flexible in terms of formats, destinations, etc. Also converts video. Been using it for a month and love it.

  • Need a program that converts US dollars to foreign currency rate

I need to find or purchase a program or if numbers does it somehow to convert the numbers I have in a spreadsheet that is in US dollars to different foreign currency.
    Any ideas
    Greg

    Done.
The script is ready and available.
    Go to my idisk
    <http://idisk.me.com/koenigyvan-Public?view=web>
    Download:
    For_iWork:iWork '09:forNumbers09:insertquotes.zip
    Unpack the archive.
    You will get the script,
    two examples of Numbers documents
several examples of downloaded data files.
Here I just pass the explanations:
Save this script as a … Script in the "Folder Actions Scripts" folder
    <startupVolume>:Library:Scripts:Folder Action Scripts:
Attach this Folder Actions script to the folder receiving your downloaded
"quotesDE\[-x].csv" (or "convertDE\[-x].csv") file. if you download from a German site.
"quotesFR\[-x].csv" (or "convertFR\[-x].csv") file. if you download from a French site.
"quotesUK\[-x].csv" (or "convertUK\[-x].csv") file. if you download from a British site.
"quotesUS\[-x].csv" (or "convertUS\[-x].csv") file. if you download from a site from the U.S.A.
If you don't know the way to use Folder Actions Scripts, look at the chapter entitled
"Running an automation when a folder is changed" in the Finder's Help.
When the script is attached to the folder, it will be triggered each time a file is added to the folder
If some conditions are verified, the script deciphers the file's contents and insert the grabbed values in a Numbers '09 document.
    These conditions are:
    Numbers '09 must be running.
The added file must be named "quotes.csv".
A document whose named is defined in the property myDoc (or my_Doc) must be open in Numbers.
The document must contain a sheet whose name is defined in the property mySheet (or my_Sheet).
The document must contain in this sheet a table whose name is defined in the property myTable (or my_Table).
The first cell of the destination area is defined by the properties columnNum1 and rowNum1 (or column_Num1 and row_Num1).
If the table is too small to store the download datas, it's enlarged accordingly.
CAUTION, only one script may be active when attached to a folder.
If you attach several of them, only the last one will be triggered.
If you need several active scripts of this kind you must attach a single script
which will dispatch files to other scripts given the received items.
It's out of the range of this thread but the script is ready to do that.

  • Help converting .wma to iTunes on a Mac.

I need help in converting thousands of .wma tracks to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro. Can anyone help me with this problem. I have a desktop at home which is IBM and my laptop is now Mac.

iTunes for Windows can import WMA files, but the Mac version of iTunes does not have that feature. If you can get the files onto your PC, just add them to iTunes (using Add Folder to Library or drag them in), and iTunes will import them automatically and save the new files to your Music folder. Do you have an iPod or other external hard disk you can use? That makes this process much easier.

  • I know how to convert WMA to AAC/MP3 for Itunes

I'm not sure if someone else has figured this out or not, but I figured out how to convert WMA files to AAC or MP3 for Itunes. First open the file using Quicktime. I think you need the Flip4Mac program. I'm not sure and you also need Quicktime pro. Choose Save. Select standalone movie. Choose location. It will convert song to movie, then import all your movies you selected. Organize Itunes by "Kind". Select all of your new movies files. Choose Advanced and convert to your appropriate file type.
I looked for a while and couldn't find a good way to change wma to aac. This takes a little bit, but it works. What do you think? It works for me.

Or, as has been pointed out in numerous posts, you can use EasyWMA.

  • Can I pause convert WMA?

Im trying to convert a large amount of wma files into itunes. Over 21,000 files about 80 Gigs. Ive had Itunes cranking away on it for almost 48 hours now- it averaging about 158 files an hour. At this rate Id have to leave my computer going doing nothing else for a week!
Is there a way to pause or stop the convert wma without iTunes loosing its place? Im worried that if I stop it, when I go to restart it will just find all the WMA files and start all over again, making duplicates of what t has done so far. And with so many files it would take me forever to figure out which ones were already converted to remove them from the folder before starting up again. (see the problem). Does iTunes keep the "Convert to WMA.." playlist if I stop it, so I can restart where im at?? Id like to let it finish all the conversion eventually, then I know all the files are done and can just archive the folder of wma's.
Or- is there a good easy way to stop it and figure out which files are done so I can grab just the ones that still need conversion latter??
(just to complicate things- I also had a lot of mp3 and acc files- about another 80 gigs - so its not like i can just look at the library to know which came from wma's)
    Any help greatly aprreciated.

When iTunes converts a WMA, it creates a library entry for the converted file, but has no record of that WMA, and if it meets it again will start the conversion again.
All the conversion programs I have used do the conversions serially, i.e. one at a time, so it is not clear that another one would be faster.

  • Converting wma  for use in itunes

How can I convert wma file so that I can use them in Itunes. Thanks

If it is in your library and it is an AAC, then not obvious why it won't play.
Right-click the library entry again, choose Show in Windows Explorer, find the file icon, right-click the file icon, and choose Open With. Is iTunes one of the choices? If so, choose it and see what happens.
Also, in your library, can you verify that the duration (time) and file size of the song look right?

  • I need to find a way to convert .WMA files to .MP3 format on Lion

I need to find a way to convert .WMA files to .MP3 format; with Snow Leopard, I could do that using iTunes, but since upgrading to Lion, I can convert the files to a .mov format in Quick Time, but cannot move the file into iTunes in order to convert it to .MP3. If you can suggest a work-around or an app that will work with Lion, would be much appreciated.

Haven't used it myself, but worth a look http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27103/all2mp3
