Do I need a  separate volume.

My question, do you need a separate volume for Time Machine. or can data reside on the same volume as the backup.

Yes, I knew what you were talking about. I think the other person thought you were backing up your computer to your computer's hard drive, which Apple's Old back up software did, never understood that.

  • Separate volume control in 5.1 with Audigy

    Hi,
I recently bought a 5. speaker set (logitech x-530, low-end I know). Everything is fine, my speaker setting is correctly set to 5.. The problem I have is that since I selected the 5. settings, I lost the bass amplification options of the speaker settings. It seems logical as the sub has a dedicated channel, but the bass I get from the sub is way below what I used to get in, say, 4. or 2.. even with both software and hardware sub volume at max position. by the way, when I turn my sub volume in the surround mixer, the sub still play bass?!
Second, since I installed the newest drivers for my card, I now have the CMSS Creative MultiSpeaker Surround which is fine! The only problem I have is that now I cannot fade Front / rear anymore. The slider still moves but nothing happens. Fading left/right still works though. I de-installed and reinstalled all the drivers, and whenever I put the original drivers, I can fade front / rear, but of course I don't have multiSpeaker surround anymore. Any ideas? What I think is that the drivers update has a problem that needs to be fixed, but as my card isn't really new, I guess it'll never happen.
Third, The center channel volume isn't really loud. It wouldn't be a problem if I had a separate volume control for each channel, which isn't the case. Is there a way to ajust each channel separately? Why Creative didn't designe the surround mixer that way? A bad mixer if you ask me.
The driver update in question can be found here, it's #2 : http://ca.creative.com/support/downl...ype=0&x=28&y=7
    Thanks

I get no bass signal at all in windows apps and?games. But it works when playing a 5. DVD or a 5. wma. Windows speaker setup is set to 5. and Creative Audio Console is also set to 5.. Any ideas what is causing this? Already tried removing and reinstalling drivers.
I had this exact same problem. I spent all day trying to figure it out. The answer is this: Stereo MP3 files will only play through the front two speakers.
The solution: Turn on CMSS to play MP3 sound through the surround speakers. Turn on Bass Redirect to get the subwoofer cranking. Search the knowledge base for instructions on Bass Redirect for your soundcard. For mine it is in the THX console.
After doing this, all MP3s, windows apps, games will pump sound through the subwoofer.
I'd appreciate if anyone could provide an alternate method.
The above info came from this knowledgebase article -> http://93.95.7.84:80/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=93,E=000000000085020532,K=9037,Sxi=3,Kb=ww_eng lish_add,VARSET=ws:http://us.creative.com/,Case=obj(273)
Then select [Speakers and Headphones] -> [Sound From Front Speakers Only]

Actually you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. It will carry both audio and video.
This one will work: Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support

Sign out in System Preferences>iCloud. This will remove any synced data such as Calendars, emails and Contacts from your Mac, but will have no effect on the data on the server - so that other devices logged into it will continue to see the data.

  • Do I need a separate base station to stream to a AX

I have an Intel Imac and I want to stream airtunes to an AX.
I do not currently have a wireless network. My Imac is connected to the internet directly through an ethernet cable from my dsl modem.
Can I stream just by connecting the AX to my stereo and turning the airport in the imac on, or do I need a separate wireless router first. The AX documentation makes it look like I need another AX or AE that I would use as a base station?

AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
    o Network Name: <enter a name or leave default>
    o Radio Mode: 802.11n (b/g compatible)
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
    o Channel: Automatic

    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>

  • Do i need a separate log in for each itunes user?

I have 5 people with Apple products in my house.  Do I need a separate user log on for each person and iTunes?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If all of them use different data, apps, songs..., it's better to create different iTunes libraries for them but without having to create different users.
To create a new iTunes library, open iTunes while holding down the Shift key, and choose the button to create a new iTunes library. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589

Do you need a separate number for an IPad or can it link to the same number you use for your IPhone?

If it is an iPad with WiFi + Cellular, it has a mobile number attached to it. However, that number has no practical use for the end user as you can't use it to make calls or send texts. It's mostly a way of connecting the device to the cellular network. Additionally, cellular numbers are only attached to one device at a time.
If what you're really asking is can you share a plan with your cell phone, well that depends on your carrier. Give them a call.
    Best of luck.

  • RAID 5 Question - separate volume for OS/Apps: pros/cons

What are the pros & cons of having 2 volumes on a Mac Pro RAID 5 (instead of one big volume):
    Vol 1: OS & Applications
Vol 2: Home Folders (basically everything else)
    1) Is this a good idea/bad idea?
    2) For what purposes would this setup be best used for?
    3) At what point during the RAID 5 setup do you create multiple volumes and how is it done?
    4) How/when do you set up the home directories to be on a separate volume from the OS/Apps volume and does the user have to do anything special during daily use to ensure they aren't saving/modifying anything on the OS/Apps volume?
    5) I have four 250GB Barracudas sitting around and was wondering if they will work in a RAID 5 in my Mac Pro. I haven't heard of anyone using HDDs this small in a RAID 5 and Apple's website only talks about 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB in bays 2-4. Does anyone have this setup or know if it will work?

    Vol 1: OS & Applications
Vol 2: Home Folders (basically everything else)
    1) Is this a good idea/bad idea?
Bad. Using a separate drive (especially 10,000 rpm) for OS & Applications can be useful, but two volumes on the same drive (RAID behaves as one drive) means the heads have to continual move large distances, since home folders and system files are used a lot at the same time.
    2) For what purposes would this setup be best used for?
If you often do things that destroy your system volume, you can quickly restore it from a backup copy, without having to worry if your user backup are completely up to date, but a separate system disk would still be better.
    3) At what point during the RAID 5 setup do you create multiple volumes and how is it done?
After you create the RAID-5 with RAID Utility, create a volume and set its size to less than the default full size. You can then create more volumes. See page 8 of the RAID Userr Guide
    <http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/RAIDUtility_UserGuide.pdf>
    4) How/when do you set up the home directories to be on a separate volume from the OS/Apps volume and does the user have to do anything special during daily use to ensure they aren't saving/modifying anything on the OS/Apps volume?
For Tiger, use NetInfo Manager (Utilities folder). For Leopard, Right (or Control) click the user in "Accounts" system preference. Once set, the user doesn't have to do anything special.

They should work. Apple only talks about drive sizes there were selling at the time the particular system was sold. If you have problems, though, Apple may blame the drives, and not provide much help.

  • Need for separate instance on RAC database 11g

    Hi Experts,
Currently we have a RAC 11g database with two instances. Our business is requesting to create one more instance with an user to store historical data. They claim that they need this separate Instance for the following reasons
    1)     Easy backup and recovery for a specific instance in case of historical data
    2)     Point-in-time recovery is possible
    3)     If any other node fails, then it won’t affect this instance
Please share your expertise on this regard. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Richard

    1)     Easy backup and recovery for a specific instance in case of historical dataWhat data will that be? If this is a 3rd RAC instance, then it will not make backup easier as the data is in the database (on shared storage media) and that needs to be backed up - the database's data does not reside locally on the instance.
    2)     Point-in-time recovery is possibleAgain, I do not see how this is a specific advantage that now suddenly occurs with the introduction of a 3rd RAC instance.
    3)     If any other node fails, then it won’t affect this instance Correct - a 3rd instance increases the redundancy in the cluster. It also scales it and provides additional processing capacity.

  • Does a CQC really need a separate thread/event queue per instance?

Does a ContinousQueryCache really need a separate thread/event queue per instance?
Is it possible to get multiple cqc's to share a single event queue?

as I do not want to share my email accounts names. Can I assign each aol account name to an apple Id and have the messages go to that account only?
