DO I NEED AIR 3.2?

I am updating (adding to) the below posting -- it's been 4 days since posting it and I'm puzzled why no one has responded to it.
It appears that Chris and/or others have responded to other posts since my posting.  Was what I was asking below unclear?
I am confused by the reference indicating that AIR is part of the OS and, as such, downloading Air 3.2 is unnecessary.  Again -- my basic hypothesis is that since I have an earlier version of AIR installed, and no OS upates have changed that version to AIR 3.2, is the statement that AIR is part of the OS inaccurate?  If so, is it logical that I should download and install AIR 3.2 to have the latest version on my system?
Finally, are all these other posts about problems installing AIR something I should seriously be concerned with or are they just a minority experience, with most AIR installations successful?  (I would think that Chris, as an Adobe employee, would have credible comment on that.)
Looking for some support, please!  Thanks!
I have Windows 7 Home Premium (with Service Pack 1) on a Dell XPS 8300.  Air 2.6.0.191.20 was preinstalled on my machine by Dell on 8/17.2011.
So about half a year later I discover Air 3.2 is available for downloading and installation.  I've received no automatic prompts regarding installing it.  But nonetheless, upon a cursory overview of online information I've decided that Air is worth having, and, yeah -- why not go with the latest version?
But -- on an Adobe web page (http://www.adobe.com/products/air/tech-specs.html) it says, "Note: Adobe AIR is part of the operating system and part of the operating system update, and thus a separate download is not required."
Huh?  (Then why haven't numerous Windows 7 updates since delivery of my pc shown an upwards revision of the version of Air in my system?)
Then -- adding to my confusion and general sense of caution -- I see nuerous posts regarding difficulties with installing Air.
Adobe's "Chris" seems like a good guy -- wanna help me out, please?!  Bottom line -- should I download and install Air 3.2?  Or, if pros and cons get too dicey, am I at least able to if I want the latest version?

Hi,
Sorry I hadn't gotten to your post yet.  I'm behind and still going through posts from a week and a half ago
AIR isn't required for your operating system unless you use an application that depends on it.  Think of AIR like you would Java.  It's a platform/runtime for other applications to be built on.  If you don't use any application that was built with AIR (or Java) then there is no need for it to be installed.
If you do have an AIR application installed that requires AIR, I would definitely recommend updating to the latest version just to make sure you have all of the security updates that we've provided.  You can do this by visiting get.adobe.com/air and downloading the latest version, which is 3.2.  Updating your OS will not update the AIR runtime.  You can also get updates by actually launching your AIR based applications.  AIR will notice that it's out of date and prompt you to install and update to the latest version.
Since you haven't received any AIR update notifications, this leads me to believe you aren't actually using any AIR applications.
You can always start the AIR uninstall process, if AIR applications are installed you'll get a dialog letting you know which applicaiton's will be affected.  You can choose to continue to uninstall or cancel at that point.
Hopefully this makes sense.

  • Do i need air port extream to run time capsule

do i need air port extream to run time capsule

OK. Yes, a TC is both a router and a network storage device. It is not like a normal external drive in that it must be used as a network drive. One can backup to a TC either wirelessly or via Ethernet. To be used as a router you need to connect it to your existing cable/DSL modem. If your cable/DSL modem also is a router, then you will need to configure the modem or the TC to function in "bridge mode." That means one device acts as the router while the other simply extends the network. In other words you can't have two working routers competing with one another.

  • Why we need Air Conditioning – not just for Comfort!

As far back as the Ancient Romans there is evidence of air-conditioned homes. Water from the aqueducts were circulated through their walls of to cool them. However, the first electrical air conditioner was invented by Willis Carrier in 1902. He invented it not for comfort, but for a publishing company to keep down the temperature and humidity so the paper did not expand or contract. Since then air conditioning has become one of the most significant engineering achievements of the last century and has impacted the economy and the world in many ways. If you think comfort is the only reason you need air conditioning in your home, think again as there are many other benefits.

This article made for a great read and was interesting to find out about the history air conditioning. Air conditioning is great in helping us keep cool during the warm months of the summer. I am actually surprised that it could mostly be found in movie theaters in its ealriest days. If that was the case, I can imagine people flocking to movie theaters during that early period in time. Possibly, some of the best uses for air conditioning units today can be found in the home, the regrigerator. The refrigerating unit is basically the same in the way it functions; the goal is to extract warm air from within the unit to keep the contents within it cool. What would we do without the modern refrigerator? food preservation would be hard.

  • IOS AIR apps do they need AIR installed on device?

Hello, I am developing an app for iOS using AIR for iOS in flash cs5.5. I know for android you have to download air on the deivce first to run the apps. I don't have an iphone or ipad to test my app on yet, but am wondering if a user who is downloading my app will have to download AIR and then my app or does flash cs5.5 somehow combine it when it publishes it?
    Cheers

They don't embed the Flash runtime.
Flash CS5.5 compiles AIR directly into the app (called captive runtime) so your iOS device does not (and can not) install AIR separately and doesn't need it. There is no AIR for iOS to download.
Also you can embed a captive AIR runtime into Android apps as well if you choose. Simply specify you want to embed the captive AIR as you export (which by default for Android is disabled). Then even Android users will not need to download AIR to use your app.

  • Rejected from Amazon App Store - Need AIR Link

    Hi Adobe,
Riddle me this. I already have my app on the Amazon app store, so I got submit an update and a lite version here is what I get back.
Your recent submission of Pop Goes The Bubble is pending due to the following reason(s):
The link to Adobe AIR in your app needs to be updated so that customers are taken directly to the Adobe AIR app page on the Amazon Appstore. -- The Download URL is http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/dl/android?p=com.adobe.air
I don't understand this. When I publish out the app for Android the part where I get to choose where the plug in is downloaded from I check off Amazon App store instead of Android market, I thought they meant I need to put the link in my description and I did and resubmitted, still the same rejection message. Please help me out I don't understand how version 1.0 was submitted and approved and this update is submitted the same way is now getting pushed back. Am I missing something?

AIR developers can submit their apps to Amazon Appstore without any code modifications but they have to be published specifically for it. This means that two separate apk files will need to be created - for Android Market and for Amazon Appstore. By default ADT creates apps with download URL for Android Market and Amazon Appstore requires this URL to be changed to http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/dl/android?p=com.adobe.air.
So if you are publishing to Amazon Appstore, the adt command should be as follows:
    adt -package -target apk -airDownloadURL http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/dl/android?p=com.adobe.air -storetype pkcs12 -keystore yourkey.p12 yourapp.apk yourapp-app.xml yourapp.swf icon36x36.png icon48x48.png icon72x72.png

    THANKS!

    Hi,
If you check the Tech specs of Adobe Muse, it is written there as well as system requirement.

  • Do i need air extreme with time capsule?

Do I need Airport Extreme with Time Capsule?

A Time Capsule is an AirPort Extreme...with a built in hard drive.
If you have a Time Capsule, you would not need an AirPort Extreme unless you wanted to install the Extreme at another location in your home and have it "extend" the Time Capsule network to provide more wireless signal coverage.

  • AIR runtime and AIR applications built using Captive Runtime still need Admin Privilege to Install

I am working on a small project to install AIR application(native .exe & .dmg) with AIR runtime without needing the Administrator privilege so I used Captive runtime but the installation is still asking for admin privilege
I bundled AIR application with AIR runtime using Captive runtime from flash builder 4.6, then I packaged this into a .MSI using Advanced Installer. Now when I install it for a user without admin privilege it prompts me for Admin credentials.
Can you please tell me if
    1. I need AIR distribution license to install AIR runtime without Admin privilege
    2. Do I need a different installer
    3. Am I missing any step here
    Thank you

If you're installing to a location where Windows requires elevated privileges, like Program Files, you'll need to have admin privileges to continue.  Are you using an AIR based native installer or have you taken the application with the captive runtime and rolled this up in your own installer?
Here's a section from the Installation and deployment options in Adobe AIR 3 article that might help:
    Installation privileges
When designing an installer, one has the option to choose from approaches that may or may not require administrative privilege. For example, a drag-and-drop install on Mac OS X requires no special privilege; users can always copy the application into their own application folders, for which they have the necessary permissions. On the other hand, if registry keys must be written to the machine-specific portion of the registry on Windows, installation of that application will require administrative privilege to do so.
The two installer formats directly supported by AIR, AIR files and native installers, have always required administrative privilege. This was a design decision made in part to simplify the implementation of the AIR installers: If administrative privilege is assumed to be available, implementation is possible if the registry can be written to, and so on. It was also selected because, in many enterprises, this is the desired behavior: administrators can use the privilege requirement to gate software installation.
All the same, there are scenarios where supporting installation without requiring administrative privileges is desirable, or even necessary. This can now be achieved using custom installers; you simply need to author an installer that operates correctly with only standard user privilege. In practice this can be easy to achieve; a simple install-by-copy to a writable location (that is, in the user's own folder) will suffice. Should you author a more complex installer, you should keep in mind that the addition of certain operations during the install process will in turn reintroduce the requirement for administrative privileges.

  • Need adobe air 2.5 package

Hii, i want to develop applications for android using flash cs5, i have gone through blogs which gives me useful information regarding how to develop android applications using flash cs5.
i was tried to use adobe air 2.6. , but as we know adobe air 2.6 extension is still not released, so i think to use adobe air 2.5  for developing applications.
So anybody can provide me-      1. adobe air 2.5 sdk for android,
                                                            2. adobe air 2.5
                                                            3. and most imp adobe air 2.5 extension(.apk)  so that i can develop android apps using cs5.
if it is available on net somewhere then also tel me.
when they are going to release extension for adobe air 2.6?
can i use adobe air 2.5 extension with adobe air 2.6 sdk, adobe 2.5 air ?
    Any help will be useful.
    Thanks,

    Hi Pravin,
    1. You dont need new extension for 2.6. Just get the AIR 2.6 SDK and copy/merge in AIK2.0 folder in you flash cs5 directory.
    2. Even if you develop your application with air 2.5 You dont need air 2.5 runtime on device. air 2.6 runtime will run you application the same way as air 2.5.
    3. After answering the 2nd question i dont think you need air2.5 runtime now

  • Air installed but won't open programs such as Elements Inspirational Browser

When I try to open a program that needs Air, the license screen pops up, I check agree and then nothing happens, cannot open program

Thanks for the reply. Well I have made some sort of progress, It was not playing ball so I went into start>control panel>uninstall a program and tried to uninstall it but it said that only installed programs could be installed? So I managed to uninstall it by deleted all the files in the c>programfiles>adobe>elements8 etc. I then put the disk in and the serial number was already in there rather than me enter it? It went through the install process only then to say 'rolling back' and is then removed everything and said that the installation process had been interupted and for me to try again. So then I did a disk clean up and restarted the PC. Once restarted I then put the disk in the CD drive and away we go again. This time like the first time it asked me to enter the serial key into the box and it goes through the installation process. Success it then works BUT after coming out of it and going back into it literally 10 minutes later it says 'our records indicate that this serial key has been used already to set up Elementson two other machines which is the maximum allowed. I have 3 options 1) adobe can check the serial key again as I have deactivated from the other PC and Adobe will validate this 2) I have a different serial key or 3) 30 day trial.
The person I bought it off said they had deactivated it from thier PC
Would the earlier problems have caused the software to activate on my PC but then after I deleted it, it still thinks that its activated so its used up 1 licence or would the previous issues have no bearing and the seller has sold me a copy thats had both licences used ?

  • Unable to install Adobe Air Update

I am unable to install an Adobe Air update.  I am running Windows7, getting error code 80040154.  Could it be Kapersky anti virus software blocking?

Thank you for your help.  I have suspended Kapersky but I cannot find Air when I search in the Programs and when I try to install I now get a message saying 'it may be your administrator blocking you'.  I am the only user and set up as the Administrator but do not know how to check if this is the case.
I have managed to install the application that needs Air on an old XP notebook.  Much Appreciation for your help. RJ

  • Unable to install Adobe Air on a Mac Pro OSX 10.5.8, HELP!!!

    Hi!
I'm hoping someone could help me out.  I have an older macbook pro (2006) and I'm trying to install Adobe Air, but haven't had any luck.  Initially, all looks great and installation seems to be going smoothly until I click "Finish" on the installation window and then another window pops up that reads:
"An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
This is so frustrating especially since it already showed me a "installation complete" window just seconds before!
In addition, I recently purchased CS5 Creative Suite 5 Design Premium and I haven't been able to use some of the applications because I need AIR.
I'm VERY new to ALL of this, so I need all the help I could get.
    Thanks!

    Hi Chris,
    Thanks for helping...
When I downloaded the zip file and then tried running it it gave me an error message (something about permissions violation?) and then this popped up:
    tell application "Finder"
        do shell script "test -d /Applications/Adobe || mv /Applications/Adobe /Applications/Adobe-Backup > /dev/null 2>&1 &" with administrator privileges
        do shell script "chmod -R ug=rwx,o=rx /Applications/Adobe > /dev/null 2>&1 &" with administrator privileges
        do shell script "chmod ug=rwx,o=rx ~/Library/'Application Support/Adobe' > /dev/null 2>&1 &" with administrator privileges
        do shell script "chmod ug=rwx,o=rx ~/Library/'Application Support/Adobe/AIR' > /dev/null 2>&1 &" with administrator privileges
        do shell script "chmod ug=rwx,o=rx /Users/Shared/Library/'Application Support/Adobe' > /dev/null 2>&1 &" with administrator privileges
set MyName to do shell script "whoami"
do shell script "chown -R " & MyName & ":staff ~/Library/'Application Support/Adobe/AIR'" with administrator privileges
    end tell
I must warn you that I do not know any of this language, so please feel free to explain things to me like you would to a 4 year old.  =)
    Hoping you can help...
