Do I need Airport Extreme FW update?

I use Airport Express as a transmitter for wireless LAN. I have airport cards in all three computers and the network works fine. I do not have physical airport base station.
I have updated the Airport Express with new firmware without problem.
In airport utility I do show base station which can be configured although there is only Airport extreme card.
When I tried to update Airport Extreme firmware no base station showed up to be updated.
Am I correct assuming that I don't need the Airport Extreme firmware update since I don't have the physical base station and the network is run from Airport Express?
Milan

I use Airport Express as a transmitter for wireless
LAN.
That is an Airport Express Base Station (AX) and will show up in Airport Admin Utility as a Base Station with whatever name you have given it (hopefully not Airport extreme card!).
That's similar but different from the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
Am I correct assuming that I don't need the Airport
Extreme firmware
Yes. The Express should be listed in Admin and when selected show at the bottom Apple Base Station V6.3.

  • Airport extreme firmware update screwed up my IP sharing and internet

I am having all the same problems -
    1) I upgraded to the 7.1 firmware
    2) I got the 'double NAT' error, but no problems connecting to the internet
    3) When I turned the bridge mode to off, I lost my internet, so I
    4) Tried to turn the bridge mode back to Share an IP address, but got an error about IP addresses.
    5) I went into Setup - the network port mapping tab - and unchecked and then re-checked the Airport button, so now I have internet access, but only at one computer, and if my computer is functional, my VOIP modem is not (or vice versa)!
    6) when I tried going back into "Share an IP address", I got the same error about the beginning and end DHCP conflicting with my WAN.
(If it helps to know, I have two AEBS - one is set up as the Main WDS station, and the other Participates in that WDS)
Now I'm afraid to touch anything!!

I would like to rollback to the 7.3.2 firmware version but there is no way to find it on internet (or on apple download) even if i change rollback airport utility to version 5.4.1: the binary firmware 7.3.2 disapeared from my mac and i can only choose 7.4.1 binary file ...
Do anyone have the same problem ?I you found how to fix it please answer my post (thanks)
Ok, here's how you actually do the downgrade - here's what Apple says, not exactly right - I would add that you HAVE to go to the MENU, choose BASE STATION, then hold down the Option key while pressing UPLOAD FIRMWARE, this will get you to a window that has the dropdown with older versions....the other versions were not available to me any other way.
{quote}If I have a computer or device that does not work well with an AWD with the latest update, how can I install previous (earlier) versions of firmware?
    1. Open AirPort Utility.
    2. From the AirPort Utility menu, hold the Option key (Control key in Windows XP and Vista) and choose Check for Updates....
    3. Select the specific firmware version you require.
    4. Click Download.
    5. Select your base station and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click on the AWD icon.
    6. Choose Base Station > Upload Firmware.
    7. Select a firmware version and click OK.{/quote}

  • Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2 no longer connects to internet

Automatic Updates recommended Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2, which I accepted (BAD). The Airport Extreme does have a green light, but CANNOT connect to the internet. Cannot "Check for Updates" with Airport Utility (option key down) because I cannot access the internet. Airport Utility shows 7.3.2, but nothing lower. Is there a location on the mac where the older driver resides?
Numerous restarts, resets, etc with both the Cable Modem and Airport Extreme and my MacBook do not help.
How do I download 7.3.1? Can I? How can I revert?
I can access the internet from another network, hence this email.
    Any suggestions would help!

When I updated to the Airport Extreme to 7.3.2 firmware it was dropping wireless connections randomly, Today I reverted back to 7.3.1 and looks like it is staying up for now but I am still shell shocked. To revert back in Airport Utility:
    1) Hold down the option key(Mac), the Control key for Windows at the same time clicking on Check for updates
This will open a popup window with the previous versions, select the Airport Extreme Firmware 7.3.1 update and click download.
    2) After the download is done, from Base station file menu drop down select Upload Firmware, you will get a choice to download different firmware updates, select 7.3.1.
    That should install the 7.3.1.
    There you go enjoy.

  • Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?  It used to work with old Airport Extreme with updates thru Snow Leopard but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA.

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?  It used to work with old Airport Extreme network, run from a intel iMac with updates thru Mavericks but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA and can't connect to Time Capsule.  Airport Extreme Base was controllable from either computer up through Snow Leopard (I didn't do any of the Lion upgrades).  Then when I upgraded to Mavericks I lost the ability to use Airport Utility with this hardware on the Sunflower but could still connect wirelessly to network without any problems.  But now with the Time Capsule upgrade the Sunflower is blocked from network by a dialogue that requests ony WEP password, not WPA pwd used by Time Capsule.  Neither can I use the old airport extreme base to extend the time capsule network since I can't input the correct password/encryption approach to join it.  Is there a work around?  Would a newer but old Airport Express be able to extend network to Sunflower?  Or maybe a third party wireless (such as Netgear, Dlink, etc) that has browser type control rather than special utility?
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network.  Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this--so is it true now that the only access control is via WPA2 pwd now (which appears to be the encryption pwd and not the time capsule pwd)?

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?
I can’t claim to completely grasp the issue(s) you’re describing, but the underlying problem is presumably your iMac’s obsolete AirPort card. Whatever the case, an obvious (if not particularly helpful) answer to your stated question would be to connect your iMac with an ethernet cable, using powerline adapters as an alternative if you don’t want to have wire running all over the place.
My still fully functional clamshell iBook, with an original AirPort card, connects wirelessly to my 4th Generation TC network by means of a cheap 802.11b/g/n USB Wi-Fi adapter. This might be an option for you too.
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network.  Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this
When you edit your TC's settings the access controls appear under the Network tab, don't they?

  • Skype problems with Airport Extreme after update

I use Skype to call regular phones and landlines. For over a year now it has worked well with my Airport Extreme, however, I noticed that around the same time I updated my Airport utility to 5.5.2 and Mac OS X update on 1/7/11 I am having problems with audio getting scrambled, the person on the other end dropping out, and my voice dropping out of their calls and the sound of me "being in a long tunnel," as they describe it. If I plug the ethernet directly into my computer there is no problem so I know it is the Airport base station.
I have tried plugging and unplugging the base station and I had comcast reset my cable modem but nothing seems to be working. I have 12 mbps internet so I know it is not a bandwidth problem.
    Please help! Thank you!

Indeed I have the same problem.  I ended up buying a new router because I thought mine was malfunctioning.  After buying the latest generation Airport Extreme, turns out it's having the same problem.  I agree that it was not a problem until 5.5.2.  Also, I use YouSendIt constantly and it also chokes the Airport Extreme.  It appears to happen in scenarios of high bandwidth usage.
    5.5.3 maybe coming soon?

  • Cannot download latest airport extreme security update.

When I try to download it, it say, it cannot download on my computer.
I checked to make sure I had the correct build in the kbase and I have.
    I tried and tried.
I downloaded straight from the ethernet to my computer, not from my airport extreme base station. Still wouldn't no install.
I tried doing it just while using my airport basestation...still won't install..
The words, this software cannot be installed on your computer.
I tried doing it through the extreme base station.
    Any advice?
When I do a software update, the airport security update does not come up.

Since my Tiger 10.4.7 computer is awaiting a replacement battery on recall,
I have not updated some of the software in it, because I haven't been able
to really use it for more than a month of waiting.
But, there are a few different recent downloads for 10.4.7 computers; and
some are specific to Intel® equipped new Mac hardware. What download(s)
are you referring to exactly (?) - as shown here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
My 10.3.9 computer is in reasonably good shape; and the last AirPort
download did not seem to apply to it; sure, I downloaded one, but the
other did not seem to apply. And from what I heard from a few user's
experience after one of the 10.4.7 Airport downloads, I'm glad it didn't
want to be downloaded in my situation; since my wireless just works.
And there's nobody nearby to try to gain access to my wi-fi system.
Did you try repairing disk permissions before any download/install
attempts; and is the system in otherwise good general repair?

  • Need Airport Extreme feedback re: setup of webcam

I am trying to get my home network and wireless camera feed to work together, and I would appreciate any guidance you can all share.
I have a MacBookPro 17" running 10.5.2. My internet runs through a cable modem, and then through a Netgear Router, and I connect wirelessly as does my husband who also has a MBP running 10.5.2.
I want to run three things wirelessly on the network, besides the two computers. I have two printers - a Brother all-in-one and an HP LaserJet P1006. Most importantly, I want to operate a wireless internet camera which would serve as a "dog cam" (so I can check in on my dogs when I'm away from home). I purchased a Linksys Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera (Model WVC54GCA), and was able to connect it within my home network by installing in WinXP via Bootcamp. I could view the feed through the camera utility when I was at home on my own network. I could not EVER, however, access the video feed remotely over the Internet. I have spent hours tweaking settings, uninstalling and reinstalling software and drivers, resetting IP addresses, etc., etc., and even paying a consultant to come out and spend 3 hours trying to diagnose the problem.
    No luck.
Ultimately, all I want is to have access to a working live webcam pointed into my living room, when I am away from home. A bonus would be to have wireless printing capability.
The tech who came out to consult suggested that rather than my Netgear router and Linksys camera, I should get an Airport Extreme/Time Capsule and a webcam specifically made for Mac OS. I don't mind doing that, but I'm not sure OS compatibility is the primary problem, since I WAS able to connect to the home network and view the camera as long as I was within my home network. It was just when I tried to connect via the Internet that I ran into a wall. And, the wireless printing.
I suppose my primary question is: Do I need to get the Airport/TC unit and a Mac-specific webcam, or should I be able to get the camera working with my existing hardware?
Hope that's not too confusing - thanks for your help!
    Linda

Regardless of what brand of router you use, according to the Linksys camera's user guide, you need to:
-set up Dynamic Domain Name Service (DDNS)
    -use port forwarding
From page 29 of User Guide (WVC54GCA_ug-1.pdf):
"I want to access the Camera when I’m away from home,
    but somehow I can’t connect.
If your network uses a dynamic IP address supplied
by your ISP, then the IP address you use to reach the
Camera will change as well. You need to use the TZO
DDNS Service, so you can access the Camera using its
domain name while the service keeps track of the IP
address changes. To set up a Dynamic Domain Name
Service (DDNS) account, click the Setup tab of the
Camera’s Web-based Utility, then click the Optons
tab. Then configure the settings in the DDNS section
    of the screen.
Important: To allow remote access to the Camera, you
will also have to use the port forwarding feature on
    your network router."

  • Need Airport Extreme Model: A1034 Manual (or IP address) for security

I have an older Airport Extreme Model: A1034 that I'd like to add an access security code to. I don't have the manual any longer and am wondering if anyone knows the URL address and password I'd need to get into an admin level view in order to set the Wireless security.

Hello september132003. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The default LAN-side IP address of the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) is: 10.0.1.1. The default base station administrator password is: public.
However, you will need to use the AirPort Utility to administer the AEBS. Unlike other vendor products, the AEBS does not use a web-based type utility for administration.
Although the AirPort Utility should be installed with your OS X Leopard, you can get a copy of it from here: AirPort Utility 5.3.2 for Leopard
You can get a copy of the AEBS Setup Guide from here: AirPort Extreme Base Station Setup Guide

  • AirPort Extreme firmware update fails due to proxy

Have latest AirPort Extreme (tower) hardware at work, with v7.7 firmware, and am trying to upgrade the firmware to 7.7.3 via AirPort Utility v6.3.2 in Mavericks OS X 10.9.5.  The Extreme is on the work network behind a proxy server.  There is no capability to specify proxy information to the AirPort Utility, although my MacBook is properly configured with the proxy server in network settings.  Every time I try to perform "Update" on the Extreme in AirPort Utility, I get "Downloading Firmware" and then "An error occurred while downloading firmware."  I presume the MacBook would be downloading firmware and going thru the proxy to get it, and then applying the firmware update to the extreme, but I can't get the firmware downloaded.

If you or any of your work colleagues has a AE AC model at home.. their laptop would already have the firmware sitting on it.. and as long as you select the right one it should work.. if they upgraded their hardware with that laptop.
In one way the nice thing with Apple is the sheer limited amount of hardware there is..
Apple have just one AC model AE.. the latest firmware is 7.7.3 AFAIK.. I stay away from latest AC products as they are troublesome.
About AirPort base station firmware updates
Does AirPort Utility for OS X keep an archive of all my AirPort base station firmware updates?
AirPort Utility keeps an archive of all Wi-Fi Base Station firmware updates you install, and stores them in ~/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort/Firmware

  • Airport Extreme Firmware update?

Hi all, as part of a seperate issue am experiencing with network transmission speeds I'm checking to see if I can update my Airport Extreme firmware.
Currently, the Software Updates section doesn't find any updates and the current firmware I'm using is 4.80.46.0 yet there appears to be a new version at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportextremefwupdate.html
Is that Firmware applicable? Is there a resident page that shows all of the Airport Extreme wireless cards firmware versions and updates?

    Bravo,
    OK... I see....
Then the Software Update would the in fact show you the latest updates for the Airport Extreme Card.... I have never seen a firmware update for the card but then it could be contained within the update itself.
The latest Airport software is 4.2...
My firmware version on the G5 iMac is 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18)
Nothing we can do about that, that know of.

  • Noisy Airport Extreme after updating

According to the flasing light in my Airport Extreme there was an update available for it.  I downloaded the update and ever since the base station makes a funny noise.  It's working fine and I have no problems with the base station; my laptop works fine as does my Ipod Touch and the Time Machine but I'm wondering what the noise is.
Any ideas and should I worry about it?
    Thanks.

    Joseph.
Thank you for the reply.  I unplugged the unit for about 10 seconds, plugged it back in and thought the noise was gone.  But after the yellow light turned to steady greeen the noise came back.  The noise is hard to describe,  it's kind of a static like noise but has a rhythm to it.  Like I said everything works okay but it only starting making the noise after I installed the update.
Don't know where to go from here.
    Thanks for your efforts.

  • Need airport extreme card (and installation disk?) for OS X 10.2.4

So when I got my emac in 2003 it didn't come with an airport extreme card. but now I need to get online and am unable to hook up with a landline to our current, only wireless, router. I can't upgrade my OS X and spend tons of money for ram and the new card. So I'm looking for the card that would work with my version of OS X. Please give me any info or websites, I haven't had any luck myself!

LaurieP, Welcome to the discussion area!
The version of OS X installed has nothing to do with which card you need.
The original eMacs require the original AirPort card. That is the only card compatible with the internal slot.
Later eMacs require the AirPort Extreme card. That is the only card compatible with the internal slot.
You can determine which eMac you have by using KB 86325, eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model. The "eMac (ATI Graphics)", "eMac (USB 2.0)", and "eMac (2005)" all require the AirPort Extreme card.

  • Airport Extreme Firmware updating

I've got two older Airport Extremes (Gen 2 and Gen 4). I'm assuming that the "Version" listed in the information popup is the version of the firmware on the device.
Would the Airport Utility check all devices for firmware updates when configured in the following manner?
If not how would I check and update each station separately?
    Thanks

All AirPorts are up to date with the latest firmware.
You will see a red badge with a number 1 next to the AirPort in AirPort Utility if a firmware update is available in the future.
7.6.4 has not been updated for a few years, so it is unlikely that it will see any future updates.
7.7.3 will likely be updated in the near future.

  • Do I need Airport Extreme Enabler for my Power Mac G5 Quad

I have a Power G5 Quad. Do I need the Airport Extreme Enabler Software to connect to my Belkin N1? Will I need it to connect to an Airport Extreme Base station with 802.11n?

I have a Power G5 Quad. Do I need the Airport Extreme Enabler Software to connect to my Belkin N1?
No, as your G5 is not "upgradable" to 802.11n.
Will I need it to connect to an Airport Extreme Base station with 802.11n?
No, as you should be able to connect your G5 to the new AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11g.

  • Airport extreme utility update won't install

any reason why i can't install the latest version of airport extreme utility? i have installed it 3 times, and each time, when I go into my utilities folder, the old version of airport admin utility is there, with no update.

That doesn't make any sense unless you somehow got it in a different place than it normally downloads.
It should be under HD/Applications/Utilities/Airport Utility.
You can also try using finder to locate it.
I vaguely remember one other person having a similar problem but I think he caused his own problem and then could not correct.
