Do I Need Fireworks And Can I Use It?

I'm going to be needing to insert quite a few pix (60-70)
into my new website which I'll first need to size and reduce, etc.
I know there are some free websites at which this can be
accomplished and I also know there are some that will charge me
something (Spinwave) to do this as well and allow me to carry home
the finished product.
So, my question is, do you think I need Fireworks? Is this
much more compatible with DW8 and easier to use? This would now
have to be purchased on top of what it cost me to purchase DW8 and
there is also another consideration (for me at least):
I am working with my trusty but rusty old 1999 Dell 700Mz
(Pentium III), 256 RAM, 27Gb HD. It just meets the basic minimum
requirements to run DW8 and so far it does a good job of it. But my
concern is, if I have to get Fireworks, will I have to run that
program at the same time as my DW8 is running to accomplish what I
have to do (insert all these pics)?
My fear is, I think everything will slow down considerably if
I'm running simultaneous programs at once on my computer. Has
anyone any experience with my particular qualms or can tell me if
I'm worrying unnecessarily over the pix? As they sit in My
Pictures, they're terribly huge and need a diet! TIA for any
advice.

Get Irfanview or something similar until you feel the pain of
not having
more 'web-centric' features.
