Do I need rslinks and a kepware opc server

To get 12 words from an Allen Bradley 1500, over an ethernet link, from an existing Labview 6.1 application, will I need an RSLinks sever and an OPC server such as Kepware?  Or one or the other

kayr,
RSLinx would be straighforward using DataSocket.  We use DataSocket quite often to communicate with AB hardware through RSLinx.  You could also communicate directly to the AB hardware using some of the tools available at this site.

  • Kepware opc server

How can I configure KEPware OPC Server with Labview 7.1 or Labview 8.5 DSC.
I would appriciate, if you guys give the information link or tutorial link.
    Thanks

I haven't done this with version 8.5 yet. It will use the shared variable to link to an OPC server.
    http://search.ni.com/nisearch/main/p/sb/navsRel?q=shared+variable+dsc+&x=16&y=5
Version 7.1 uses the tag engine to connect with an opc server.
The two labview versions use different methods to talk with an opc server.
Which labview version do you really want to use??

  • How to setup and configure NI OPC Server to OMRON PLC (CJ2H model) using FINS Ethernet communication protocol?

    Hi,
Could someone help me in the setup and configuration of NI OPC server to OMRON PLC (CJ2H model) using FINS Ethernet communication protocol? I already read some materials available in the web but it uses a different PLC and communication protocol. The OPC server is installed in my laptop and I'm using Windows 8 as my OS. I used a cross over RJ45 LAN cable and connected to the ETN21 module of the PLC. I was able to confirmed the communication of my laptop and PLC by pinging the ip address of the ETN21. I also tried to configure the OPC server based on the documents I just read online. I created a channel, device and tag to the OPC server. By the way, I just need to read the data from the tag I created. Can someone also tell me how to monitor the data on the tag? I hope that you could help me. Thank you in advance.

    Good day,
Try following the instructions on the driver’s help, take a look at the attach picture. It should be a good starting point. After the PLC is configured you can use this tutorial (Connect LabVIEW to Any PLC Using OPC » http://www.ni.com/white-paper/7450/en/) for a guide on how to monitor the tags.
    I hope this helps

  • Datasocket write and close / remote OPC server / PC freeze when no connection

    [Labview 8.21, Windows XP SP2]
    Hello
I am getting data from a remote OPC server using the Datasocket techniques. Depending on the DS family of routine that I use the behavior is different when the OPC server shuts down or Ethernet link is cut.
In the NOK application attached, as soon as the link to the OPC server is cut the application and the whole Labview environment gets stalled, either in the DS Write or in the DS Close icon. Never in the DS Read icon.
Also the Timeout to read or write does not work in neither application. Whatever the number I set it will never be taken into account.
Is there some sort of 'miracle' setting in the Labview.ini file that can make the NOK application to work correctly and step out of the DS Write or Close vi when such link cut occur? More generally could someone explain why the behavior is different between the two applications, if there are new Datasocket routines that would handle these kind of communication in a clean way?
    Thanks

I am desesperate. The Datasocket - OK version.vi 19 KB that seemed to work so well (no freeze at all) creates a huge memory leakage as you can see in the attached file. I am only reading a tag (local OPC tag, not even remote tag on another PC's OPC server) and the word document attached shows the issue:
After 15-20min during which no increase of memory is noticed (first picture) the situation starts to worsen. In 12 hours (about 7200 read operations) it reaches a consumption of 65Mb ! (to read everytime the same OPC tag). Something that I never noticed with the Datasocket - NOK version.vi 19 KB that had the freezing issue...
I really do not know what to do.
    Thanks for your prompt feedback

  • NEED FAST AND BEST JAVAEE 5 SERVER SUPPORT FOR NETBEANS 5.5

I am using j2ee technology for open source development since j2ee 1.4 sdk. The Sun Application Server 8.1 and 8.2 were bit fine to start with netbeans. But Glassfish seem to be too slow to start and deploy. Can anyone tell me the fastest and best performance app server to use with netbeans 5.5.
    The computer specs are
    PIII 500 MHz
    512 100/333 MHz SDRAM

What difference does it make how quick the app server takes to start and deploy?? That's about the most arbitrary criteria for choosing an app. server I've ever heard. Might as well choose based on the colour of the logo!
Seriously, use whichever one you think you're most likely to encounter. Looking at the spec. of your machine, no app. server is going to run particularly fast. Look into getting a faster machine, or at least a second machine of similar specs to run the server on. Poor thing must be exhausted :-)

  • JBoss 4.2.0 does not contain need folders and files inside default server

    Dear,
In the Virtual Appliance you provided, you will find under the /home/livecycle/jboss-4.2.0/server/default ONLY: log folder and tmp folder.
    When you start jboss like:
    ~jboss4.2.0/bin>./run.sh -c default
    It will give this error:
    Failed to boot JBoss:
org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentException: url file:/home/livecycle/jboss-4.2.0/server/default/conf/jboss-service.xml could not be opened, does it exist?
The answer is NO as i explain before. But why? is there a problem in the Virtual Appliance when you prepare the jboss server on it?
    Please let me know

JBoss in the Virtual Appliance does not have a "default" configuration.  You should not start it with the command "./run.sh -c default".

  • CRIO communicating as PLC with NI-OPC-Server

    Hi there,
i have the task to implement a communication between multiple cRIO's and the NI-OPC-Server. The NI-OPC-Server has to act as data handler for a complex frontend.
I tried out the NI-OPC-Server and i was successful in communicating with the NI-OPC-Server as OPC-Client in Windows using an IO-Server and Shared Variables. But the task is to do this on a cRIO. I tried to open a data socket connection from a cRIO to the NI-OPC-Server using a specific URL using "DataSocket Select URL.vi". But as long i do not activate simulation in the NI-OPC-Server i get errors on opening the data socket connection. If i do activate the simulation, which is not the solution, i can write some data without error but the Quick Client of the NI-OPC-Server sees no changes for that data tag.
I have the feeling i am not at a good way to get this working. Is there anybody having experiences with this? Is data socket a possible way at all? Is it possible at all? Do i need to implement a cRIO-OPC-driver?
    Thank you.
    Solved!

  • OPC Server Remote Connection LabVIEW 8

    Hi
Currently I am trying to access a VI with a Shared Variable from a remote computer using an OPC Client. I haven´t succeed on this becasue I cannot find the OPC Server on the Host Computer.
Here is what I am using:
    Host Computer:
    Windows XP SP2
    NI Developer Suite November 2005
    LabVIEW 8 with DSC Module.
Remote Computer: The same as above.
    Here´s what I have done.
I created a new project with a library that included a Network Published Shared Variable. The VI is quite simple it just generates a number that is written to the Shared Variable. Once the VI was running I opened the Server Explorer on the host computer, browsed My PC and connected to the server Variable.Engine in which I was able to see my shared variable. Then on the Remote Computer I opened the Server Explorer and browsed on my Network Places and when I tried to access the Host Computer I got the following error: "Unable to connect to \\HOST! Make sure that this computer is on the network, has remote administration enabled, and that both computers are running the remote registry service"
I have tried by using the Matrikon OPC Server Explorer and I got the same results. I read many documents that refer tis problem as a DCOM setting because of the firewall fo XP SP2.
Here´s a list of the NI documents I reviewed.
How Can I set up LabVIEW, LabVIEW DSC, and Lookout to work with the windoes XP firewall

I never got the results I expected. Then I tried the Matrikon OPC Simulation Server and the Matrikon OPC Server Explorer(Client) and I Succesfully connected between Matrikon servers and clients.
My project is based in accesing the LabVIEW OPC server with a generic OPC client but I cannot get the client to connect to the server.
I will apreciate some advice on this issue.
    Marcos

    Marcos,
If you are using two instances of LabVIEW 8, I would first take the OPC part out and just try viewing Shared Variables on the remote computer.  This needs to work.  One document to check is the following KB: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/6E37AC5435E44F9F862570D2005FEF25?OpenDocument. I would also make sure the opcenum.exe service is running on both machines.
Once browsing to Shared Variables works, you can test the OPC aspect of the Shared Variable Engine.  Server Explorer is an older OPC 2 client, but should work in most cases to browse to OPC Servers -- you'll need to make sure the registry settings on the host computer are set up correctly as per the KB you mentioned, and also make sure to connect to the OPC Server, add a group, and add items manually from within Server Explorer, rather than using the Wizard.

  • Application not reading data from opc server?

    Hello,
I have developed an application that reads and writes information from and to an OPC server (Phoenix Contact), and for this have used the DSC Module and labview 2014. When I run it from LabView, it works perfectly. I want to deploy it to another computer and for that I have created an Installer that includes the source files, the labview runtime, the DSC runtime, ni distributed manager 2014, and the variable engine.
When I install my application to the other computer, it doesn't "see" the data from opc, although the data reaches the computer (I've checked). Can you please help me with some suggestions regarding this problem? Am I missing something?
    Thank you.

You don't have NI OPC Servers on either computer?  That's generally the software required to talk directly to an OPC Server.  On the computer where things are working, try going to your start menu and searching for NI License Manager.  See if there is a listing for NI OPC Servers.  I'd expect it to be activated to a single driver.
On the deployment PC, make the same check.  I'd expect it to be missing.
The distributed manager is just a way to view the shared variables you have on the system and interact with them.  DSC works with NI OPC Servers to display your tags.  The RTE is needed on the deployment PC.  But, I'd also expect you to need a way to convert the tag into the shared variable you're seeing in both the DSC RTE and distributed manager.
Using the Phoenix utility shows the computer is connected to the same network.  But, it doesn't show the tags are reaching LabVIEW.  You're generally better off starting with the Quick OPC Client as this will use similar methods that LabVIEW will.

  • OPC server trouble seeing tags in NI Distributed System Manager

I have created my own OPC server for simulation purposes.  If I create an I/O server and select my OPC server I can then "create bound variable" in which I can browse my OPC tags which are all in there.  I use another program which makes use of property nodes to acquire a list of paths to these tags.  The list is empty.  I noticed that when I run the "NI Distributed System Manager" I can see the I/O Server but the sub tree doesn't show my tags.  If I got them to show up in "NI DSM" then I could get a list of tag paths.  Does anyone know why my tags would show up in the "created bound variable" window and not the "NI DSM" window?  I have tried deploying the library that the I/O server is in but this doesn't work.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Thanks for the reply Charris,
I have two OPC servers.  One is the simulator and one that I connect to at a remote location which required some OPC client software (some service in windows registry which I am not familiar with). All I know is that I can browse all tags on the remote OPC server by first creating an I/O server (yes I use OPC client) and selecting "create bound variables".  Before I bind any shared variables to OPC tags I can go into DSM and see all the tags that are not yet shared variables.
When I try doing this with the simulator, I first create the I/O server before I can browse all the tags in "create bound variables".  But this time when I go to the DSM, they are not listed under the I/O server.  This is just an observation.
My real problem is that I use this piece of code found on the NI website to get a list of tags (URLs).  This code works with the remote OPC server but not with the simulator.
I don't really understand the code.  All I know is that if I input the name of the library and the name of the I/O server as well as the path to the PC, it brings back a list of URLs pointing to tags.  Maybe there is something in this VI you can help with.
    Thanks
    Matt

  • Unable to access only Read Write addresses of AB Micrologix 1400 PLC using NI DSC and NI OPC server

    Hi,
I have been using NI DSC and OPC servers (NI and Kepware) to communicate with Allen Bradley Micrologix 1400 PLC (1766-L32BXB). Recently at one  site I found that I could access Process values from the PLC correctly (Read Only tags) but could not access the Read Write Tags at all. The latter are addresses to which it should be possible to write Set (i.e., references) values from MMI or PC software. I am able to do so from the MMI not from the PC software. I get communication error message on the MMI and PC, mentioning the PLC address being accessed (e.g. N7:0).
Support from the supplier is not available. Hence can anyone let me know if ladder logic could have been written to prevent PC software based access of Read/write addresses (N7:0 to 9 in this case), while permitting access to Read only addresses? Is the problem at the PLC end or OPC server end? Is there a way to get around this?
    Thanks in advance.

The OPC Server cannot force Outputs so if th registers in question are the outputs of ladder rungs you cannot write to them via the server. The controller will accept the write from the server but will not execute the write. In some cases the server event log will post an error if it is the PLC. Do you get errors when you try to write and if so what are the posted error messages.

Hi, I'm developing a application thats need read and log a large tag database at period of 1 second. My system have actually 1200 tags and when I try to increase the number of tags my system slowdown and not update at requested period anymore. I'm using NI OPC Servers to read data of 4 different PLC's. In the SVE I've created an IO Server to bind variables and all variables are located in a single process. All variables are logging alarms and data. The Log Deadband and Update Deadband are set to 0. • Comunication between opc server and a generic labview application

I'm developing a LabView application that hanldes data aquired with dedicated hardware. The system (PC+appl.+DAC) has to be iterfaced with remote PC that can see only an OPC server. Wich server have i install?
    Does exist a similar application?

As far as I am aware, LabVIEW Base/FDS/PDS can only act as an OPC client i.e. they can receive information from other OPC servers. If you are reading information from an OPC server into LabVIEW, the easiest method is to use DataSocket as this considerably simplifies the communication process. Examples of using DataSocket within LabVIEW to view OPC data items are provided with LabVIEW.
In order for LabVIEW to act as an OPC server i.e. LabVIEW acquires the data, and the publishes this data such that other OPC-aware applications can access the data, you will need to use LabVIEW DSC (Datalogging & Supervisory Control).
LabVIEW DSC will allow you to generate a "tag" and assign this to the data that you acquire/process. This tag can then be seen by all OPC cl
ients (either local to your computer or across a network).
An alternative that you might want to consider would be to use DDE - this will all depend on the capabilities of the software you are working with. DDE capability is available in LabVIEW without DSC and will allow you to pass information between a DDE client/server. OPC has its origins with DDE so if this other piece of software that you refer to is a SCADA-type package, you may have some success here.

  • Can't connect to KepWare Enterprise OPC server

I am trying to connect to the Kepware Enterprise OPC server with Server Explorer 2.4.1 but get a message 'The system cannot find the file specified' 0x80070002. I have modified the DCOM setting for XP SP2 as described in the Kepware documentation. Is there a way to resolve this issue?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Can you explain exactly how you are attempting to connect to this OPC Server and also any of it's properties that are set in Server Explorer. At what point do you get this message? Have you been able to connect to that OPC Server on that machine, or any machine before?
