Do I need security for my ipad

What do I need for wi fi security in public places

Data on public wifi is very unsecure.
Do not use it for anything you do not want compronised such as banking, work logins, etc. or anything where you would enter a credit card.

Do I need McAffee, etc security for my iPad 3 or can I do internet banking etc without worry.

I originally had a Zagg screen cover but they are tricky to install good. Too easy for a piece of lint or such to get under them. I replaced it with a cheap 'three covers for 5 dollars' screen protector. It's a bit annoying because its glossy....but right now I have my iPad in a Zagg portfolio so it's in a case with a keyboard - and there are little rubber bumpers that touch the iPad, and I like the thought of having the screen protector there just in case.
Look for one that advertises no residue and that clings more by static than any adhesive. I'd also look and see if it advertises clarity and a matte surface...the glossy iPad screen can be a bit tricky in the wrong lighting.
I'll always have one on mine, just because. I've sunk a chunk o change into this and I'd like to protect it.

  • D0 I need security for my computer?

I have heard that there are no viruses that can attack Mac os.
Does this hold true with spyware, worms, malware etc?
DO I need to get a firewall or anti spyware software to e secure?

Mac's are less vulnerable out of the box than Windows machines by design but that doesn't mean they are invulnerable.
There are many many more Windows machines in the world than Macs which has made them the primary target for those that derive perverted satsifaction from trying to disrupt things for others. As Macs get more popular, they will be more actively targetted and there is no doubt that vulnerabilities will be discovered and some sad people will try to exploit them with malware.
Make sure you run Software Update on a regular basis because Apple are pretty good at plugging those holes that are discovered.
Read the security advice on Apple's web site and be aware of what you are doing as you open up services on your Mac's firewall.
I think that this article (http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/malspyware.html) is a pretty good summary of what to do.
So far, in four years of OS X use, I have not experienced any ill effects from malware. That doesn't mean I shouldn't continue to be careful - just like in all aspects of life
    Enjoy your Mac!!

  • I am having trouble updating iTunes - need it for new iPad

I have a new iPad.  I tried to download the update for iTunes but it says it can't find a path (iTunes.msi)  I tried to remove the old iTunes, thinking that might help but it won't allow the removal because it can't find that same file.  HELP  I

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Do I need internet security software for my iPad?

Is anti-virus or internet security software needed for my iPad?

There isn't any.  That would break the security model used by Apple.  Apps cannot
    -- modify os.
    -- modify other apps
-- look at other apps data with the exception of pictures.
You can change your dns address so as to pick a fast and secure dns site.  I pick google: 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
    Apple provides for these things.

  • Hi, I recently purchased an IPad Air.  I have a Dell PC that has the Verizon.  Security Suite.  Do I need to have virus/malware protection for the IPad Air?  Thanks.

Hi, I recently purchased an IPad air.  Do I need to place virus protection software for it?  I also have a Dell PC that has the Verizon Security Suite.  Thanks for your info.  Jim

You do not need anti virus for the iPad. The ipad only installs things from the App Store and those apps are vetted. In addition, the operating system of the ipad isn't the same as PC's or Macs so common viruses don't run on them.
The only thing you need to be aware of is protecting your info....Go to a bad site and enter your info and you're just as vulnerable as you would be on a computer. So the device isn't vulnerable to anything but user actions.

  • Security for iPad

I'm just wondering is there any good security software for the ipad. I do everything from my iPad. Thus meaning I use it daily. I know that there is VirusBarrier, but I've seen mixed reviews about it. My children use my iPad and play on the web. Does this mean that the ipad could get some type of malware/virus on it? I don't want to connect it to my PC and transfer a virus of some sort. Could someone help me please? Thanks in advance.

Unless you jailbreak an Apple iDevice, you don't need any security software. Since the iOS and app apps can only be downloaded from Apple's site, and Apple screens apps, there are no viruses or malware. A virus can't be transfered from a connected computer.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Does Apple have a patch for my ipad for security?

I read in the New York Times about a patch for my Ipad for security when using it at the coffee shop. Is there such a thing? How do I access it?

YOu need to update your iPad's operating system.
iPad 2, 3, 4 and air should be updated to iOS 7.0.6
I don't think there is a patch for the first generation iPad. It's possible that it's not affected, but I'm not sure on that one.

  • How do you find security for mac computer, iphone.&ipad?

I understand from Kim Komando mac"s  are vunerable to virus's and malware. She stated awhile back that when mac's reached 15% of the market they would be under attack.  Also I think I read on her site that 600 thousand mac computers were attacked recently. Also iphones and ipads could be attacked.  Any one can read her messageboard but you have to be a member to ask questions.www.komando.com/messageboard.  and scroll down to macs........I am asking this because when reading in the support communities I saw an old conversation saying macs would not be attacked by virus's etc and do not need security protection. and I beleive that is wrong information...Does anyone know for sure??????? I have a macmini (intel (os lion, a 4s iphone and an ipad......

There are no know viruses for OSX.  This is from the horses mouth - APPLE!
Check out User Tip:   Viruses, Trojans, Malware - and other aspects of Internet Security and http://www.thesafemac.com/mmgMac Malware Guide.
    ===================
    Viruses:
Are programs that earn their name by their ability to replicate themselves locally & often across a network.  Many attach themselves to to other programs.  When you launch one of these programs, the virus code launches as well & the virus goes about its nefarious business.
Viruses are exceedingly rare on the Mac.  There are no known viruses for OSX.
    Trojans:
Promises one thing but delivers another.  You can download a program but when you run the program, the contents of your computer are instead beamed to an underground data center in Kamchatka.  If you obtain software from reliable sites, you are unlikely to get a Trojan horse.
    Adware:
Has an embedded advertising component - one that displays or downloads ads when you run the software.  Some adware is legitimate, part of the price of using a free program such as the Iconfactory's Twitterrific or Eudora for example.
    Spyware:
Grabs data from your computer & ofen uses it for the purposes of evil, sending personal info to a baddie or when you're using your web browser, redirecting you to site you don't want to visit.
Mac users have nothing to worry about regarding Spyware & Adware because in order for the worse forms to work, the OS must allow unrestricted access to its more sensitive parts.  The Mac OS doesn't.

Will I need to purchase iWork for my iPad if I purchase an iPhone 5s? Everybody knows the iPhone 5s with IOS7 gives iWork for free. I assume that if I buy an iPhone 5s (or 5c) then iWork would be listed as a "purchased" app in my itunes store under my account. My iPad retina is in the same account... or are keynote, pages, and numbers completely seperate between ipad and iphone? I know they would be a seperate purchase for my Powerbook. Thanks so much for your help!
