Do I need specific disks for specific drive?

Hello everyone,
While trying to reinstall a system software, do I need to use the specific disks which came with the computer?
I've been online trying to help a friend in Africa with her MacBook. She's lost her hard drive once and was able to reinstall the system from a friends system disks onto a newly formatted hard drive. She is now having hard drive issues and needs to do a clean reinstall but is unable to use the disks she currently has. Does she need her friends disks?
Are Mac OS disks specific for each drive and encrypted as such? I thought so, but since I have all my disks, I've never run into this problem before.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yes, the discs that come with a Mac are specific to that model and cannot be used on a different Mac model. You need the original discs that came with the computer. Otherwise you can use the retail Leopard installer discs.
That's not quite true. While it's possible that the provided disks ship without various drivers, I've found that the limitation is simply a software one -- all the drivers are included, but the installer itself will refuse to run on a machine that's not of the same family. I've successfully used MacBook restore disks to restore a MacBook Pro with no trouble whatsoever. Heck, the first time I installed Tiger it was from a friend's PowerBook restore CD, onto my iBook via target disk mode.
That said, it's probably safest if you use the correct disks, or just use a retail install disk.

  • How to define specific color for specific data in WebI?

    Hi everybody,
I wonder how I could connect data shown in e.g. a vertical stacked bar chart to a specific color. The assignment of color in a chart is done by Webi automatically after pulling a a variable to a chart. Later on it is possible to change to color via the color palette. But how can I define a specific color for specific values of an attribute? (E.g. calue is Chicago -> color is blue; value is NY -> color is red.. etc ) Is it possible?
    Does anybody know the trick?
    Thanks in advance!

  • I need installation disk for p6-2327c my hard drive is broken I have to replaced

My computer doesn't work any more just shows "ERROR: NO BOOT DISK HAS BEEN DETECTED OR THE DISK HAS FAILED"I'm guess the hard drive is broken in that case once I replaced it I will needed the installation disk which HP does'nt support any more since my computer is just 3 years old only

  • Need system disks for MB061LL/A

Does Apple have system disks available for older products?  My hard disk failed, I know how to replace it but I need system disks.  Is there a third party that has them if not?

The Snow Leopard 10.6.x has recent available browsers, other software and still has support. The Leopard 10.5.8 is harder to keep running if you need Adobe Flash plugin for browsers, and current browsers are harder to find. I have three Macs (one is Intel-MacBook) that run 10.5.8, and only the MacBook can be upgraded.
The value in longer use of the computer is through having Snow Leopard (and its iLife applications - not included in the retail DVD for $20) and perhaps some new RAM chips installed to maximize the MacBook. Another thing with portable computers, is they tend to wear out their hard disk drives quicker than desktops.
However the original included install-restore disc sets that were machine specific to the build series year and model, have a very good to have 'hardware test' on the install disc, and also can be used to repair, reformat, and perform various disk utility actions, also to install the original version OS X and applications to stock. Those discs are part of the computer & should always be included with it.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Need new disk for 2011 Mac Mini i5 with Radeon 6630M

I need a new disk for 2011 Mac Mini i5 with Radeon 6630M
    Will this fit?
Western Digital 2.5 inch Scorpio Black 750GB 7200rpm SATA 16MB Internal Hard Drive WD7500BPKT
Will I need special screwdrivers or tools?

Wow, I worked on my MacMini after watching the video.
    But BEWARE!
That OWC video misses a crucial step! (I emailed them)
My MacMini had a bit of "invisible" black tape holding the disk connector to the disk, very hard to see. When I pulled off the connector, it came apart !
That bit of tape must be something Apple added, or some manufacturers added, but it really messed me up. I had to send my MacMini off to be repaired, at a cost about $200 including parts and labour.

  • Audit specific objects for specific users

audit statement has the option to choose audit by user list
audit object has the option to choose audited objects
now i need to audit specific objects, i.e. user A's tables accessed by a specific group of users, let's say ALL users other than A
Is it a simple way to achieve this goal? (audit A's tables that accessed by all database users other than A)
    Thanks!

sorry, the link works now. However, there is nothing new in 10G, same as I read from 9i document. See my highlight below in the quoted document text, my requirements is the combination of them ( specific users and specific objects). Thanks anyway.
    <quote
Table 8-1 Auditing Types and Descriptions
Type of Auditing (link to discussion)      Meaning/Description
Statement Auditing      Enables you to audit SQL statements by type of statement, not by the specific schema objects on which they operate. Typically broad, statement auditing audits the use of several types of related actions for each option. For example, AUDIT TABLE tracks several DDL statements regardless of the table on which they are issued. You can also set statement auditing to audit selected users or every user in the database.
    Privilege Auditing
Enables you to audit the use of powerful system privileges that enable corresponding actions, such as AUDIT CREATE TABLE. Privilege auditing is more focused than statement auditing, which audits only a particular type of action. You can set privilege auditing to audit a selected user or every user in the database.
    Schema Object Auditing
Enables you to audit specific statements on a particular schema object, such as AUDIT SELECT ON employees. Schema object auditing is very focused, auditing only a single specified type of statement (such as SELECT) on a specified schema object. Schema object auditing always applies to all users of the database.
    Fine-Grained Auditing
Enables you to audit at the most granular level, data access and actions based on content, using any Boolean measure, such as value > 1,000,000. Enables auditing based on access to or changes in a column.

  • Need Startup Disk for OS X

Where can I get a replacement Startup Disk for OS X? I have an ancient iMac running OS X version 10.6.8. When I try to verify disk using the disk utility i get a message that my disk is corrupt and needs to be repaired by booting from the startup disks. Unfortunately the OS was already installed on my computer and I do not have any startup disks. Can I find them anywhere? I appreciate your time and suggestions.

You already did the Verify. Now you need to repair.
Hold down the C key while booting from your install disc.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart

  • Need new firmware for the drive (Mat****a UJDA750)

I have a Satellite M30 with a Mat****a UJDA750 combo drive. Does anyone know where I could get a new firmware for the drive?
    Thx.

    Hi,
It would be up to Toshiba to release an official firmware update for this drive and at the moment they do not have one.
You could of course look at 3rd party sites such as cdfreaks.com.

  • Need firmware updates for HDDVD drive of Satellite P200

I bought my P200-17C, 3 months ago. I have attempted to update my Firmware to the apparent latest (TO35).
However I can't because I do not have either TO33/TO34 installed. Having checked my FW version is TO04!!!! ????
How do I get the previous versions so I can update to the current version. I find it very odd that current versions do not have previous versions already with it.
WHERE CAN I FIND THE PREVIOUS FIRMWARE FOR THE SATELITE P200?

First of all you have to check if you Satellite P200 was equipped and delivered with the TS-L802A drive because the firmware TO35 was designed only for this drive.
You should know that the P200 series was delivered with different drives and not all supports the TS-L802A ;)
    Please check this firstly!

  • Using iPod as backup disk for failing drive

I am an avid user of iTunes with multiple years of history behind me, and I have owned my own iPod since about February, and I have never been disappointed until now, but I feel this is more an ID 10.T error than anything else.
I have a big library, so much so that a regular iPod just wouldn't do it, I had to go for the biggest one available. With a library of 5,230 songs covering 31.65GB, I have a nearly irreplacable collection, and to my dismay, my internal disk is failing (thank you Maxtor...)
As a wise move, I synchronised my iPod with iTunes with the latest additions, and was horrified to find that iTunes had sleuthed an entire band (Motorhead! No!), three songs from another band (Jimi Hendrix, why all the good guys?!), and two lone songs had become victim to my series of bad sectors cropping up all over the place. While I was thankful that this had not altered my iPod listings (the tracks are still on the iPod, and are still playable), I am left with a situation.
If I want to recover these tracks, most of which were ripped from now long-lost CDs years ago rather than purchased over iTMS, how would I go about doing it? Obviously, restoring them on the failing disk would be absolutely fruitless, but there will come a time when I CAN afford to replace the disk, and when this time comes, the entire library will need restoring, and as an extra precaution, I want to have the library stored on my partner's PowerBook. Having turned off automatic synchronisation, under the fear that I would lose my tracks, I thought there would then also be a method for transferring all the data FROM the iPod TO a machine, but this does not appear to be possible, and one begins to ponder the usefulness and customer satisfaction of a one-way music player? Is there an option within iTunes I am missing or simply haven't found yet? Or does the problem lie deeper than I believe it to be? How am I supposed to get music off, and re-enable automatic synchronisation without vaporising my irreplacable music collection that already exists on my iPod?
Seriously, it took me many years to rip, and over five hours to transfer, do NOT tell me I'm going to have to vaporise it to do anything with it, as I've already lost a few ultra-rare tracks on the disk...
Any help that could be given is very much appreciated.
    Custom Windows XP Pro

Now that your iPod is set for manual music management, does the iPod show up in Windows like an external drive? Do you see it listed either by name or by the generic "removable disk" under My Computer? Because once Windows recognizes it as a removable drive, you can open it and poke around for your files. First you need to expose hidden files using Windows' Tools•Folder Options•View settings. Then you'll see the folders in which the iPod stores all the stuff.

  • Need OS disk for macbook pro mid 2010

The hardest part of holding on is letting go. This is how I feel about my MacBook pro mid 2010 edition. I have been having issues with it so I neglected it for some time. I put in a new hard drive and then installed Yosemite. It runs a little slow but works great for Netflix and other non required uses. The problem I am having is that the processor pegs at 100% randomly. I don't see anything under the monitor using the cpu so I am wondering if I have a hardware issue. When I hold down the D key at bootup I thought it would start diagnostics but it doesn't. My research tells me I need to install the original os but I can't find the disk.
    Thoughts?

    Niel,
See if you can help this person: MacBook Pro late 2011 won't start up.

  • How to Run std program with a specific variant for specific user?

    Hi guys
We have a std program which will be run by different users in the company. Now the requirement is to make sure that each user runs the report with a specific varaint. Can we control this if yes how?
one options we thought about was to create a transaction in SE93 and define the program to run with a predefined varaint and assign the new custom tcode to the user profile. But we have many different users and we will end up with creating many transactions which we would like to avoid. Is there any other option to control the std program such that each user can run the program only with a pre-defined varaint and the one which only the user is suppoed to run. thanks in advance.

We have a std program which will be run by different users in the company. Now the requirement is to make sure that each user runs the report with a specific varaint. Can we control this if yes how
    you can do this..
You can create a Custom table
    userid     keyfield
    program  keyfield
    variant    keyfield
    programdesc
Make the table Maintaintable(usnig table maintenance )
    Now create another Program
It takes input of the Program name( using selection screen)
    LOGIC
in side that place a logic ,
Based on the user name  and program name Get the variant name from above table
Now Submit the program with the variant you have selected above.
Use Variant Addition when you use SUBMIT
So now program executed based on user variant.
Now you create a Transaction for this program.
When use Runs the Transaction , user needs to input the Program name which he wants to execute.
and Output will be shown based on the variants
