Do I need the latest Java update?

I am not a Java developer. Do I need this update to make my browser and other applications function properly?
Thanks
JB
imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Because of a work related issue, I need java. Initially, the site forced me to use Explorer. Eventually, as java updates were installed, I got the site to work in Firefox. Now, after the latest, I can use Safari.

  • Is it ok to download the latest java update:

Is it ok to download the latest java update? I thought I had heard of a problem with them?

The Java 6U35 (1.6.0_35) that you currently is rather old, so you should either update to the latest Java 6U41 or Java 7U15 version to be protected against security vulnerabilities.
You can find the latest Java version on the Oracle website.
See Java Platform > Java SE 7U15 and Java 6U41 (Download JRE)

  • The latest Java update breaks some vital applications

The latest Java update breaks some vital applications. I have reverted back to 7u45. But now, every time a java applet is used, the "later", "block", "update" window appears and stops the applet from loading. I must have this older release. Oracle does not throughly test their updates. Note: the apps the update breaks are actually Oracle apps.
I have checked the "do not ask again until next relesse" box every single time. Worthless.
Is there a way to stop Java version checks? I even have the box deselected for check for updates; ignored by OS X. I WANT CONTROL! Stop checking!
    Ideas?

We are facing the same issue. We suggested all out customers not to install the updates Java 7u65 or 8u11 until there is a workaround or fix.
The wrong look & feel is causing the following problems:
    - Either icons or text can be display on a button. Currently the majority of buttons are displaying an icon. Therefore the workaround is to set the text at least.
    - Scroll-bars are displayed within all cells of a table column. The circumstances are not clear when these scroll-bars are displayed.

  • How do i remove the latest Java update?

Yesterday Software Update installed a new version of Java which breaks my Juniper Network Connect VPN client.
How do i undo this software update?
    Thanks.

Restore your system from your unupdated backup!
Short of that you might try reinstalling the 10.6.8 combo updater and hope (just hope) it wipes out all the stuff the latest Java 10.6 update 6 installed.
Finally, last resort, reinstall 10.6 and then that 10.6.8 combo updater.
I would have suggested trying the Java 10.6 update 5 hoping (again just hoping) it overwrites all the stuff update 6 installed but I can't find the download link for it at the moment.

  • After the latest Java Update, this is running all the time

Anyone know what JavaApplicationStub is, and why it's running all the time now? I noticed this after the last Java update from Apple, which mentioned downloading something from Oracle, which I never did. thx!

I have been experiencing this exact same problem ever since I upgraded.
In addtion to what Mflor describes as the problem that's occurring, I even experience this when I'm playing my iPod on my docking station through the AppleTV. It just stops midway through the first song and continues to do so after 5-7 plays and that's only if I'm patient enough to deal with it.
The message I get quickly once this occurs is that my AppleTV doesn't have an internet connection, but that message only appears for a quick second before it returns to the main AppleTV menu with ALL the options.
I've even tried rebooting the AppleTV and this still occurs.

  • Firefox's latest update could not cope with the latest java update. So my computer is not functioning normally. Why?

I just downloaded the latest firefox. I got a message that there was something about the latest java that it could not cope with. I did not think that it would be a problem so I downloaded. However when I loaded up the betfair page I could not get the list of sports to come up. So then I started clicking on symbols to f.ind a help button. I am not very computer literate. I eventually clicked the bookmarks button and tried to look at an item but ended up with a reduced size homepage overlaying the bookmark page and It seems to be stuck. The restore item on the history page is not working so what can I do?

    If you mean this one:
It's the orientation lock, it stops the display rotating when you rotate your phone.
You can turn this on/off from the control Centre which you can reveal by swiping upwards from the bottom of the screen.

  • How to stop BOBJ 4.1 SP4 to not prompt for the latest JAVA update

Currently our my users are on a version of Java that is supported with BOBJ 4.1 SP4.  Each time Java releases a new security update, users are being prompt to update Java to its latest version.  We cannot go beyond this current version as it will break other applications within our business.  This isn't the first time I have seen this behavior with an application, in the past we have asked Kronos to accommodate this request from within their code which they were able to do.
This is definitely at the application level, its not as if I can go into 'Control Panel >> Java' and update this change there, the applications overrides this.  After opening a case with SAP support, we are now being told this needs to be handled by the development team, that it is not in scope of support nor is supported.  They mentioned that SAP Development Consultants also can assist with such a custom setting like this.
    Can someone please assist?

    Svatos,
As of Sept 2014, if you are running IE 8 or higher you will now get another pop-up is JAVA is NOT updated.   The NEW pop-up is Microsoft vs SUN issue, it has nothing to do with SAP anymore.

  • Installed the latest Java update today on my older iMac and now it won't boot up at all. 2007 model worked fine this morning, now disk first aid say boot blocks f'ed.

I am using an older mid 2007 imac 24 inch running snow leopard 10.6.8
I normally accept software update recs, and today when installing the security update to java, all went fine till restart, when I got the universal "NO" sign, the circle with the line through it and just spinning gray bars underneath.
Booted from system disks, ran first aid, said the boot block partitions or something like that needed updating but disk appears to be ok. Still not working.
Do you think Alsoft Disk Warrior will fix? I am running off external back up drive now.
Thanks for any help or advice. Apple as usual is as useless as tits on a bull, or a screen door on a submarine, pick your simile...

If your backup's up to date it might be less hassle to erase the internal and clone back from the backup. Don't allow the update next time it appears - you're not the only one having problems it would seem.
Note; the message "updating boot partitions" is a standard message that appears after a repair run. It won't go away and should be ignored.
Provided the message "The volume Macintosh HD Seems to be OK" in green has appeared, your disc fle system is fine.

  • Anyone else having problem with the latest JAVA update?

I'm not sure if it comes from Apple this or flip4mac. But anyway it said the other day, we think you should have this update it will make things work better. So I thought, what the heck, I might as well. Only, since I've installed the update I've have nothing but problems with the online games at yahoo. Keep getting stale pages, wont load that sort of thing. It's very frustrating, certainly since you have to type the screwed up letters on the screen everytime, and they are barely legible to the human eye most times.

System Preferences->Software Update and review what was installed, then go to http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ and see what they were all about.

  • Safari won't load pages after latest java update

I did the java update last night and now there are a lot of web pages that don't load. I also tried Firefox and Opera so I believe it is the latest Java update not something else.
Is there a log some where that I can check to see if there are any error messages or other indications of what is actually happening?
Java for MAC OS X 10.6 Update 1

    HI,
If you are running 10.4.8 then you need to update your system software to 10.4.11. And make sure you have the 2009-002 Security Update installed. Open System Preferences/Software Updatess - Installed Updates. Make sure that update is there. If not go here and download and install ...
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_002__Tiger_PPC
    Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
And ... from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences - Security.
Where you see: Web content make sure the top 3 buttons are selected.
    And ..
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Could be a 3rd party plugins causing the problem. Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Move any 3rd party plugins to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • I'm not able to install the new Java update

I have a MacPro 2.8 Intel Core Duo 8GB 500GB HD with Mac OS 10.6.8 installed and every time that I try to install the sugested update from my mchine I receive an error message as: " The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time the Software Update runs"
I already restarted more than three times and cleaned all system with Onyx but continue to receive the same message.
Is there anybody there with the same issue that I'm having? Any help?
Thank you in advance for any light on this issue!

Check out all software you have that uses Java, like software that that uses database connections (using JDBC).
Several people are reporting that the latest Java update (_29) breaks their critical software.
The solution for at least one was to re-install a "combo updater" from and earlier age (earlier than the _29 update) to re-instate the previous Java.

  • I can't download the latest software update beyond 10.5.8

I want to purchase the new Lion and magic trackpad, but I can't update my software beyond 10.5.8 and they need the latest Leopard update to get started.
Any sugestions on how to fix this.

You would need to purchase the install disks for Snow leopard from Apple or another reseller.
Do you have an intel Mac?

  • Latest Java Update Loses JarBundler, Breaks Some Bundled Java Apps

    Hi all,
I installed the latest Java update this morning. After installation, the "Jar Bundler" program was gone, and I had to re-install Xcode to get it back.

I have discovered my problem and solution.
The JavaApplicationStub file in the app bundle was configured to run x86_64 which the library does not support. This is apparently new to the latest release of Java.
In order to solve the problem, use the lipo tool. Here is what I did:
lipo -remove x86_64 JavaApplicationStub -output JavaApplicationStub
In addition it is also recommended that the LSArchitecturePriority key be added to the info.plist. I added the following to the main properties:
    <key>LSArchitecturePriority</key>
    <array>
    <string>i386</string>
    <string>ppc</string>
    </array>
This specifies the allowed architectures in their preferred order.

Just wondering if I should update the latest Java software download and if so shoould I make any other changes on my old MBP?  I have downloaded all the Java updates.

mendel-  I have downloaded all Java updates.  However several times I was told by an expert in this forum to check something and open Java pref and do something else.  I did download it but my question was do I need to check or uncheck or do anything with Java Pref. I think the table is called.  Just checking so that not only the downloaded was installed but anything else that nees to be done was done.  this is why I ended up at this Security article which was way ovr my head.

  • Minecraft says that I need a new Java plug in but I can't find one from Support.  I thought Mountain Lion had the latest java.

I have just installed Mountain Lion and now cannot access Minecraft.  It is telling me I need another Java plug in, but I thought that Mountain Lion includes the latest java.  Has anyone else experienced this and do they know how to get the plug in?

    Hello:
Have you run software update after the install?
In any event, go to utilities>java preferences.  Open that and follow the prompts, if any.
