Do i need the original disk to reinstall snow leopard

...a nice easy one hopefully.
My sister has made a mess of her MacBook (long story).
The easiest solution would be to simply reinstall Snow Leopard but she doesn't have access to the original installation disk that came in the box.
I have the one (also SL) that came in my MacBook...is it OK to use it to reload SL on her computer?

It is possible if the platform is the same (install disks are platform specific). Since she had it at one time, I don't think anyone would say you are violating the license agreement.

Boot the ssystem from the OS DVD. Once it is booted run Disk Utiltiy. Select OS Extrended (Journled)

You say that you have Mac OS X 10.7.5, so if it came preinstalled, see that you can't reinstall it because it's registered to the old owner. Call Apple to get replacement DVDs

I need the old QT Pro on Snow Leopard.

I had QT Pro 7.6.2 (I think) and lost it when I upgraded to SN. QT10 doesn't have the pro features I need to change aspect ratio and stuff (that I can find anyway). I also tried to install QT7 from Timemachine and got a whole load of folders and stuff but not the v7 application. I'm pretty narked as I need QT7 to change aspect ratio for iDVD. I can't seem to get stuff out of Final Cut Express in 16:9 and then into iDVD without getting it stretched in 4:3.
Help!

Check in the Applications/Utilities folder for QuickTime Player. The Snow Leopard install moves it there.
If you had Pro it my have been updated to version 7.6.3.

What to do with iWork licence if reinstalling Snow Leopard

I need to reformat my disk and reinstall Snow Leopard. I have a Family pack iWorks 09. What do I need to do to reinstall iWorks after I reinstall SL? Any issues about the licence that I should be aware of? Also what do I need to do to recover any of the templates I have created in Pages?

Hi Stephen
If you have the DVDs and had no serial number just reinstall.
If you had a DL and a serial just use that serial number when you reinstall.
Your personal templates are stored in:
~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/My Templates unless you put them somewhere else.
Just back them up and drag them back to the same location after the reinstall.
I suggest you use *Carbon Copy* to make a compressed back up of your entire HD and mount and use that to get all your old stuff back after the reinstall. OSX has succeeded in becoming as complex if not more so than Windows (and the crowds cheered for more!), so I would not count on you having manually located everything you are going to miss after the reinstall.

Can't erase hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard (SuperDrive)..

I have the original "gray discs" with Snow Leopard on them, and a SuperDrive. I would like to completely wipe the computer, and start over with just Snow Leopard. When I tried to do this yesterday following this tutorial, the whole process sort of froze at Part One, Step Three.
For the lazy non-link-clickers, here's the instructions I followed:
1. Turn on the computer.
2. Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD into the optical drive.
3. Press and hold the "C" key while the computer starts up. The computer will start up using the Install media.
....And that's as far as I got. The machine turned on, the DVD whirled and clicked, and the screen glowed gray for about 10 seconds. Then, it went black, and the DVD stopped whirring. Then that cycle repeated. Over and over and over and over. For over 24 hours.
So, what is going on, here?

Well, Kappy, you were right: my 2009 MBA came with Leopard, so those Snow Leopard gray discs I was using did not come with my machine.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find the Leopard gray discs that must have come with the computer.
So, I found a retail copy. And then I:
1) Inserted the retail OS X 10.5 disc into the SuperDrive.
2) Double-clicked "Install Mac OS X.app" in the DVD contents pop-up
3) Clicked "Restart" when prompted by the installer.

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

So a couple years back, I bought the Adobe Master Collection CS6, and it worked great. I've recently run into problems with my computer unrelated to Adobe and had to Reset Windows to factory state. My PC was in such bad shape, there was no way for me to back up important files before resetting. Now I have to reinstall Adobe CS6, but I can't track down the original disk. I do however have the product code and serial number, is there a way for me to get CS6 back? Please help.

I had the same problem. I had misplaced the serial number for 1.5 and I needed it to reinstall the Aperture 3 upgrade. In addition, I no longer had the disc image for Aperture 3.
Originally, I downloaded the trial of Aperture 3 as an upgrade and then paid for it. This was before it went to the Mac App Store. I had previously bought the hard copy of Aperture 1.5 and then the hard copy upgrade to 2.0.
This is a testament to buying direct from Apple. With a little proof that I indeed bought the product from them, they provided me with a working serial number. I bought Aperture 1.5 from the Apple Store, Soho in New York, and when the transaction was complete I got an email of the receipt. That receipt number is what entitled me to receive this support from Apple. They sent me a link to the disk image for Aperture 3.1, from which I installed Aperture on a fresh hard disk, and then they sent me a working serial number for 1.5, which allowed me to complete the installation. Afterward, I opened Software Update and updated to Aperture 3.2.3. Done!

How do I get a copy of the original disks.

I purchased every OS from the begining of time :-) and find myself needing to reinstall 10.5 on an old iBook G4. I can't find the original disk, if in fact there was originals.

Apple no longer sells OS X 10.5 Leopard. You'll need to go to either the used market, Amazon (as Niel mentioned) or hardcoremac may still have copies. Be prepared for sticker shock.
