A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

Hold the Option key down and restart. Select one of the drives that comes up and hit the Return key.

How good is Maverick, Can I upgrade from Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to Mavericks. The local service center did not bother to verify the warranty and told me to pay 2000 rupees. I thought the warranty to be worldwide, apparently not, any suggestions.

You can go to the Apple online store and purcahse a copy of Mountain Lion. This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it. I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date. It is usually correct, to within a few weeks. A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.

Have you checked your Purchases tab in the Mac App Store? That is where it should be. And if you paid for it, you do not need to pay for it again.

The newer version of os x are download only. There is a recovery hd partition on the internal drive that allows you to connect to the apple servers to download and install os x. Or you can use the internet recovery system to boot the system from across the internet to do the same thing. For the built in recovery hd you hold down the command+r keys at startup and for the internet recovery system you hold down the command+option+r keys until a globe comes on the screen. From either system you can then use disk utility to erase or repartition a drive and then reinstall mac os x on that drive or any drive connect to the system.
You can also download the os and make your own usb install thumb drive. There are many websites with instuctions on how to do that.

I am trying to download Mountain Lion for almost 3 days now and the download gets stuck at 53.25mb. Apple support staff is giving me same block answer that it's because of heavy traffic and I don't buy that. Does anyone know how I can download it ?

I tried all of the restart/ Cookies deletion that apple support staff recommended to no avail. Download starts from begining and once it's 53.25mb downloaded, the remaining time goes upto and beyond 650 days and counting.
Is there any guru, who can help me download Mountain Lion this year? Preferably in a days time !

Doesn't strike me as a "high traffic" issue, if you pause the download can you open the /Applications/ folder on your Mac and see if the installer already present? If you can stop the download and delete the installer (because it is not finished), the try again?
If you've already done the above have you tried using Disk Utility First Aid from your Recovery HD?
Try to verify/repair the disk and see if that takes care of it. (Of course make sure you have a good, recent backup before trying this.)
If you're still having issues: re-install OS X from the Recovery HD, install all available software updates, try again.

Hi I am new to mac, love my mac so far, although some applications I use on my office pc are windows therefore I need to run windows on my mac too, quite like VMWare but I have researched and found I need to buy a copy of Windows XP too (cant use Vista as my work programmes dont like vista) there is a copy of Windows XP for OEM can I buy this and run it via VMWare or Parallels will it work? Sorry for all the questions but I am stuck and dont want to waste money on the wrong software.

All of them. That's part of the risk in buying these OEM discs at the cheap price. They are cheap for a reason. After you install you'll find that MS considers that you are running an illegal copy which they then won't let you upgrade unless you purchase a valid license.
