Do I need to calibrate my battery?

I bought my 13" MBP (2.7 GHz i7) about a month ago and I noticed the battery run-time has decreased already. I mostly use the battery, and I plug it in to charge when it drops to around 60% or lower. Most of the time, I allow the battery to charge all the way, and recently it charges to only 98% or 97% at "Fully Charged". I turn off the computer, regardless of the battery percentage, when I don't use it. I know about calibrating laptop batteries, but I am not sure if I should do it, this part from Apple's website was a bit confusing:
Additional Information
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.      "

  • Do I still need to calibrate the battery every few months?

Hi, I recently bought the MBP 13" i5 and I read on a forum that MBPs made mid-2010 or later come precalibrated
and "do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490
Should I still calibrate the built-in battery every one or two months to maintain battery life?

    I would follow Apple's recommendations.

  • Pro with Retina display- Do I need to calibrate the battery?

    Hello,
I just bought a mbp with retina display and out of curiosity, I looked up some articles on google about battery crashing. Still jetlagged, I'm having a slight panic attack because my battery only provides 2 hours when watching youtube. (4 bar brightness, wifi, google chrome, all other applications turned off).
Some people suggested that calibrating the battery would help it last longer but from my battery health stats: my current max is 8706 amh while original max is 8460. If I'm ahead of the original max, does that mean i'm doing fine?
my computer is 30.9 days old. Although I have only had it for about 10 days and my cycle is at 3.
What do you guys recommand that I do to maximize batter life?
Also, when should I recharge my battery? I'm using this computer mainly for youtube and writing papers for school. I never run games on macs either.
So at what % should I plug in the power adapter?? and do I always charge it to 100%?
    Thank you very much

I did an initial charge to 100%.  That was my complete calibration.
Since, I leave it on AC power when at a desk.  It will slowly lose battery down to 95% then recharge back to 100% by itself.
One a month at least I run it on battery down to 40%, then recharge to 100%.
NEVER run battery flat if you can help it.  That shortens battery life.
If that sound like "AC power is fine for extended periods, but do not run it flat", you get the message.
My 1-year-old MBP can still hold 101% of designed capacity.

  • My battery keeps on saying that I need to calibrate it

I've bought this laptop like 3 weeks ago and it's been running fine so far till about a few says ago. I noticed that the temperatures increased by 5C during idle time, from 45C to 50C for the cpu. I tried using the HP support assistant to find a solution for it and I found out that my battery needs calibrating. I calibrated it following all the instructions provided in the program and the temperatures returned to normal. Then yesterday, it says that I need to calibrate it again and the temperatuers have again increased. So I did another calibration and the temperatures returned to normal. Now, the same thing happened again, the temperature rose and HP battery check says that I need to calibrate my battery again. Never did anything that may have caused this as I always took care of my laptop. Any solutions for this? Do I have to get it checked to an hp store? It sucks to know that my laptop already has problems even though I've just been using it for less than a month. My laptop is a Pavilion g4-1025tx. Also another thing, I can't seem to log in with my other account even though i'm using the correct password. I have changed my password four times now as it only seems to work if i get a new password.

I would return it to place of purchase for a refund if possible, no sense getting stuck with a lemon
Otherwise I would try to get it repaired under warranty which isn't always the easiest to get done to your satisfaction.

  • HP Customer Care instructions to calibrate my battery aren't working

I tried the overview on calibration, I tried the Manual Calibration, as for the Programmatic Calibration there is no Calibrate Button in HP Battery Check that I see (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=ca&lc=en&docname=c00821429#N449), and when the HP Battery Check indicates that I need to calibrate my battery it's supposed to provide specific instructions on how to do so---well, it isn't providing any. This is frustrating.

  • I have my macbook pro for a while now and all of sudden it just started shutting down randomly when my battery had enough life in it and only works and comes back on when I put it on the charger. Do I need to replace my battery?

    I have a MacBook Pro
Keeps completely shutting down all the time when its fully charged and at random times when it is at 65% for example
Do I need to get a battery replacement? Or do I have a virus?
    PLEASE HELP

Sudden power-down is most often caused by overheating. The fans in a Mac are controlled by software that measures temperatures at several points inside the computer, and increases the fan speeds when temperatures are rising. You should get it checked to be sure the fans  are working as expected. Your appointment for an evaluation at the genius Bar at an Apple Store is free, in warranty or out.
Battery shortage will generally cause your MacBook to warn you, then go to sleep.
Your symptoms do not correspond with any know Viruses.

  • Hello. So I have used my iPod touch 4g for 2 years now and need to change the battery. My question is: will I lose everything I have on my iPod like my music, pictures and apps if I change the battery on my iPod touch 4g?

hello. So I have used my iPod touch 4g for 2 years now and need to change the battery. My question is: will I lose everything I have on my iPod like my music, pictures and apps if I change the battery on my iPod touch 4g?
    Thanks for answer

If you go to Apple, they will not replace your battery, but exchange your iPod for a refurbished iPod of the same model with a new battery.  Therefore you will lose everything that is not backed up.  If you change it yourself or have a third party change it, you will most likely not lose anything (but still best to make a backup as lllaass suggested).

  • My iphone 4s is over 2 years old and I need to replace the battery. How much will this cost at an Apple store?

I have an iphone 4s that is  over 2 years old. The phone's battery is no longer able to hold a  charge for an acceptable length of time.  Assuming I need to replace the battery, how much will this cost at an Apple store?

Basically, I'm new to Apple, despite using them before, but I've never actually owned my own.
Since buying this phone off a colleague at work, I seem to be having problems with it. First, I noticed how rubbish the battery life is, then my charger almost went up in flames and thirdly my camera lense is scratched beyond belief.
I know the phone isn't within warranty, although I was lead to believe it was before and during buying it, so basically I'm extremely disappointed with the general make up of iPhone's considering they cost such a **** of a lot of money, you'd think they'd be built to last.
Back to my main point, how much would it cost for a new battery? Or a new camera lense if anyone can help me with that? (I know that the back of the phone was refurbished just before my buying it, so literally just the camera lense)
    Thanks!
So basically it sounds like you bought an abused used iPhone and somehow that makes the phone subpar because dispite the abuse it should still last forever and look like new? Batteries don't last forever, even under ideal conditions, so your expectatoins are unrealistic. Take it in and have an estimate done.

You can try an SMC reset:
Resolve power and other issues by resetting the SMCIn some situations, you may need to reset your computer's SMC.  Learn how to identify these conditions and reset the SMC.
If that does not fix it, you have software on your Mac that will reveal your battery's condition. Click and hold on your Apple menu (left end of menubar) and the press your OPTION key. The top items will change from "About this Mac..." to "System Information..."
When SI opens, look in the left-hand panel under hardware and find "Power" Click it. You will see this:
Copy/paste what I've shown (ingore anything lower on the screen) into a reply to your own post here. Please omit the serial number.
From that  we can get an idea if this is a software glitch or a real battery problem.

  • Need recommendation for replacement battery on Wallstreet PB

I have a PB G3 Series Wallstreet (292MHz, family M4753) for which I need to replace the battery. Other World Computing has a replacement for $130. There is also lots of others in the $60 to $90 range. This is only for occasional use. 2 hours run time is fine. Is there any way to know if any of these less expensive batteries are OK? Thanks
    Owen

Batteries Plus is a franchise. I asked my local (West of Boston) franchise what the majority of its business was, and they pointed to the shop table where several laptop batteries were being re-built and explained they replace the cells in laptop batteries. They also had displays of coin batteries, alarm system backup batteries, and other specialty batteries.
If you got the guy who started today, he might have heard "Re-Sell old batteries" and thought you were strange. Who would buy used-up old batteries? Maybe it's just not a big business where you are, or maybe they have not signed up for the training yet.

  • Do I need to get my battery replaced?

My phone wouldn't charge and it ran out of battery. The water damage indicator has been activated in the headphone jack, but not in the docking slot. There is no visible water or air bubbles in the camera or on the screen. Do I just need to get my battery replaced or is the phone completely broken?

    Dr. Asian wrote:

Presumably this means that your IPhone has had some contact with water, regardless of what is visible.  Your iPhone is very likely damaged (probably "completely broken", as you said).
Take it to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Repair Center and find out what they suggest.
