Do I need to "condition" the battery in a new MacBook?

Please forgive my ignorance, but do I need to "condition" the battery in a brand new MacBook that I just bought? i.e. Do I need to charge it fully, unplug it, and let it run down completely before charging it again? Or is that only for the older batteries?

Thanks, Jay. About an hour ago I opened it, turned it on, and started downloading and installing system updates. It's been plugged in this entire time. Should I have just turned it on and plugged it in to charge without using it? The article isn't entirely clear on that. Or can I keep setting it up and using it as long as it's plugged in until the light on the power cord turns green (before unplugging it and allowing the battery to run down)?

  • My iphone 4s is over 2 years old and I need to replace the battery. How much will this cost at an Apple store?

I have an iphone 4s that is  over 2 years old. The phone's battery is no longer able to hold a  charge for an acceptable length of time.  Assuming I need to replace the battery, how much will this cost at an Apple store?

Basically, I'm new to Apple, despite using them before, but I've never actually owned my own.
Since buying this phone off a colleague at work, I seem to be having problems with it. First, I noticed how rubbish the battery life is, then my charger almost went up in flames and thirdly my camera lense is scratched beyond belief.
I know the phone isn't within warranty, although I was lead to believe it was before and during buying it, so basically I'm extremely disappointed with the general make up of iPhone's considering they cost such a **** of a lot of money, you'd think they'd be built to last.
Back to my main point, how much would it cost for a new battery? Or a new camera lense if anyone can help me with that? (I know that the back of the phone was refurbished just before my buying it, so literally just the camera lense)
    Thanks!
So basically it sounds like you bought an abused used iPhone and somehow that makes the phone subpar because dispite the abuse it should still last forever and look like new? Batteries don't last forever, even under ideal conditions, so your expectatoins are unrealistic. Take it in and have an estimate done.

  • How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

There are a few ways (none of which are covered in the above link). On more recent OS X versions, when you click the battery icon in the menu bar you may see a "Service Battery" or "Replace Now" message. If you aren't seeing that, the system probably thinks the battery is fine.
Also, in your System Information utility, there is a Power section that provides Health information for the battery, with a Condition status and Cycle Count. If the Condition is Normal and your battery is under 300 cycles (for removable batteries) or 1000 cycles (for non-removable batteries) it is not time to replace it yet.
But of course, the other time to replace it is if you don't think you're getting the runtime you want out of it.
If none of those is a problem, don't worry about it.

    Thanks for answer

If you go to Apple, they will not replace your battery, but exchange your iPod for a refurbished iPod of the same model with a new battery.  Therefore you will lose everything that is not backed up.  If you change it yourself or have a third party change it, you will most likely not lose anything (but still best to make a backup as lllaass suggested).

  • Is it true? Do I need to remove the battery?

Another post mentions the need to remove the battery when the laptop is on AC power  I hadn't heard this before.  Should I be removing the battery when I have it plugged in?  (Which is most of the time)

    Hi
When computer is connected to wall outlet it will charge the battery until 100%. Is it harmful to battery if it is kept at 100% charged for     long time.
This is now becoming an urban myth   Once upon a time it might have some basis in fact however with lithium-ion batteries it doesn't matter.  For a start, they are not constantly charged, as this would cause an explosion, so they charge to full and then the charging stops.
Some articles state it is best to keep battery at 40-50% when it is not to be used for long time. How to achieve when it is always     attached to the computer?
That's only required for long term storage when the battery isn't being used to help prevent it aging.
Lithium-ion batteries whether being used or not slowly degrade from the very first day they leave the factory, you might as well have it in the laptop even if you use the mains 99% of the time to get some benefit of an un-interruptible power supply rather than leave it in the box where it will age anyway.
    Regards
    Phil

  • When the battery charged fully in macbook pro and the charger (AC Adapter)

when the battery charged fully in macbook pro and the charger (AC Adapter) is connecting (Showing Green Lamp) to the macbook pro does that effect to the battery live of the macbook pro with Retina Display 15'' ME665
Also I want know the Best headphone compatible with macbook pro Retina that help me to Hear and Record ?
Notes ( the macbook pro 15" has just one port for the headphone usually it's tow for record and hear)
    Best Regards,

The MacBook Pro charging circuit will charge the battery until it reaches 100% charge and then switch to power mode for the MBP.  When the battery drops to 93-95% charge the circuit will switch back to charging mode to top off the battery charge again.  You will not harm the battery or MBP by leaving it plugged in most of the time.
There are many good headphone/microphone combinations on the market, best really is more a function of how much money you want to spend.  Check those offered in the Apple on-line store for features/price to see what would best fit your needs.  You can also look at audio equipment suppliers, all the earphones need is a standard 3.5 mm plug.

  • What is the exact name of the cable I need to connect my old hard drive from my macbook pro (it has been taken out of the computer) to my new macbook pro?  I need to transfer files from the old hard drive to the new computer.

No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

  • I have iWork 09 with a family license. I am unable to install the software on my new Macbook Pro (the message is simply "Installation failed"). I wonder if I need to remove an old computer from the family license, and if so, how?

I have iWork 09 with a family license. I am unable to install the software on my new Macbook Pro (the message is simply "Installation failed"). I wonder if I need to remove an old computer from the family license, and if so, how?

Yes, gladly. I am trying to install on a 13" MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.3. I insert the disk into the SuperDrive. The I work '09 window pops up with two icons: one Tim install and one that says "Read before you install iWork." I double-click on the "Install iWork '09" icon, and a window appears that says, "This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed." I click "continue" and see "Welcome to the iWork '09 installer." I click on "Continue." The "read me" bullet on the left lights up, and I see "Read before you install. . . ." I click "Continue," then see the software license agreement. When I click on "Continue" again, I am asked to agree, and I do. The window then says, "Standard Install on 'Mackintosh HD" and indicates how much space the program will take.
I click "Install," enter my password, and the installation begins. It goes through a validating phase and begins "writing files." It indicates that installation will take about 30 minutes (although that number fluctuates). After about four minutes it goes to "cleaning up." Then after just a few seconds, the "Summary" bullet on the left lights up and this message appears: "There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again." There is a large yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, and a bold "The installation failed." Below that appears "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
At that point, a "Close" button is pulsating blue at the bottom of the window.
Sorry for the tedious detail. Anything revealing there?
    Thanks!

i bought an iphone 4s from someone and i dont know password of his Apple ID and i need to update the apps on my new iphone i need a solution please

The only solution is to erase the apps and purchase them through your own iTunes Store account. You have no legal right to those apps - the license is not tranferrable - and cannot in any case update them without the orginal purchaser's Apple ID.

  • My dad died and I need to set the IPAD up as new.  How do I do that?

My dad died last May and my mom gave me his iPad to use.  I need to set the iPad up as new but having problems.  I tried the online restore instructions using iTunes, but I can not read my dads apple password completely.  I have his apple ID but the password he wrote down is in pencil and fuzzy to read 2 letters correctly.  Does anyone know how to totally reset this?

Brian, thank so much for this info.  I have been plugging along on the internet to find an answer to this puzzle before I had to go to the Apple store cuz I know it will cost some bucks to fix.  I am on a starving artists income, so god love the internet cuz I finally found the solution on this link.  I hope it can help others with the same problem like me.  Step #1- I had the latest version of itunes on my pc originally cuz I have an ipod, but I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall the latest version.  Than 2nd step I had to reset my host file too (do not ask me why, but follow this link's info for step 2)- thttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
Here is the rest of the instructions on this link to now follow for step #3.  http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iosapps/how-hack-ipad-iphone-passcode-3504927/

    4. In case any of the previous operations work but the settings don't "stick".  There are two plists associated with the settings:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.XXXXX-XXXXXXX.plist
The first is global to all accounts while the second is in your home directory.  The X's are a sequence of hyphaninated  letters and numbers.  If you can get these removed then it will probably revert to a default resolution.

If the computer only starts in safte mode, it is highly unlikely that network functionality works.
Copy or move the ENTIRE iTunes folder (and any other personal data you want) to an external drive.
