Do i need to deactivate file vault before installing

I currently have file vault enabled for him home directory. I will use full disk encryption in lion. Do I have to disable file vault first before I install. Also, I plan to make a clone of my current hard drive first, as a precaution. Should I disabled file vault before making that clone?

no, you do not.  reinstalling adobe software after an os change doesn't require a "new" activation.  it will require another activation for you but it will still be recognized as an activation on the same computer.
if you made a significant hardware change (harddrive, cpu), then deactivating before the change and activating after the change would be a good idea but adobe is good about accomadating customers that fail to do that.  in fact, many people are unable to do that because of computer loss/harddrive crash and adobe makes it easy to reset their activation count even in those circumstances (via chat, http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html).

Old computer died and I am trying to install Illustrator CS5 on new computer.
Last version I had before CS5 was/is Illustrator 10,which has been installed on new computer.
CS5 install says I need CS2,3 or 4 before installing 5, but old computer went directly from 10 to CS5.
How can I repeat this 10 to CS5 install?

It does not seem likely that CS6 was upgraded from version 10.  You might want to check your purchase history in your Adobe account to see if there is some missing link in the chain of purchases you made.
You can always try contacting Adobe support thru chat to see if they can find information or otherwise assist you in this matter.

  • Do I need to turn off File Vault before I erase a hard drive?

I have a File Vault 2 password set up on my Mac, in addition to a firmware password.  I'm selling the computer, and I want to make sure everything is wiped out.
I know how to turn off the firmware password.  However, I was wondering if I need to turn off file vault 2 before I start up the OS in recovery mode, at which point I will erase the hard drive using the 7-pass delete option in disk utility. Or do I not have to worry about that, and go ahead and boot up on the internal system HD in recovery mode to delete the HD entirely, without turning off File Vault first?
    Thanks for the help,
    Eric

Boot from the installation disc that came with the computer and repartition the internal drive with the default options. Then install the original OS.

  • Do I need to deactivate my CS5 Student install to install on new system?

We have a Student download of Adobe CS5 on our system and through editing HD we decided that yes, our system won't cut it for long. So we are building a powerhouse replacement.
The question is, how do we install on the new system? We downloaded a large set of zip files used to install. There was no CD involved and we don't have paperwork. It was done through my wife's university and they don't seem to know. (and yes, it was done legally and properly)
I don't see a deactivate button anywhere in the menus, but maybe I am not looking hard enough or in the right place.
We don't wantto find out that, oh boy, CS5 was great, but we can't move it over to the new system because we didn't do something we were supposed to.
    Thanks.

I have never deactivated, but I do know from reading before I bought (I work at a University) that the CS5 education version is exactly the same as the commercial version (except for the price and 2-step registration process) so Hunt's advice on how to deactivate should be the same
Also, making step-by-step backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

  • Final Cut Studio 2: needing to update older version before install

I am trying to install FCS 2 upgrade from FCS, but it tells me I have an older version and that it "needs to be updated" before I can continue. The manual says that "To avoid compatibility issues, the Final Cut Studio installer requires you to update all Final Cut Studio applications to the version included with Final Cut Studio 2." I am not sure what this means, since I am just now installing FCS 2. I've read the messages here about upgrading from FCP 5.0.4, my FCP version, to 5.1 via a crossgrade on disks from Apple. Does this mean that I need to buy this crossgrade before I can finish the upgrade to FCS 2? This requirement is not listed on the FCS 2 box, but I can't seem to find anything else that would "update" my older version. And is this true for each of the other applications in the suite?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, you don't need to buy the crossgrade. I just updated the PPC version of FCS to FCS2 yesterday. (I had transferred these applications over to my new Intel Mac from a G5 even though I knew they wouldn't run on the Intel Mac until I could update with the Universal version). What I did end up having to do was to manually delete everything from the PPC installation (applications, preferences, application support files, etc.). Then install from the FCP2 disks, having your old FCP registration number ready to enter in the dialogue box that comes up when you try to upgrade. While the installer says you are upgrading, in fact it installs the new universal versions of the applications.

  • What directory are the RPM files in before installing Oracle?

    Hello
I am getting ready to install Oracle9i and one of the RPM files is missing so I downloaded it and will copy it to CD then to the hard drive. The question is:
    1) After I copy the RPM file to CD what directory do I copy the RPM file onto on the hard drive before installing Oracle?
    2) What directory are the other RPM files to be installed in before installing Oracle in?

There is no specific directory for RPM packages (in case we don't talking about builded rpm packages from src.rpm packages).
You can copy RPM package to and install from any directory. After succesfull installation you can delete it.
    Example:
    cd /tmp
    [ivan@ivan ~]$ cd /tmp/
    [ivan@ivan tmp]$ wget -q http://sunsite.mff.cuni.cz/pub/fedora/6/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS/zsh-4.2.6-1.i386.rpm
    [ivan@ivan tmp]$ su
    Password:
    [root@ivan tmp]# rpm -ivh zsh-4.2.6-1.i386.rpm
    Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
       1:zsh                    ########################################### [100%]
    [root@ivan tmp]# rm -f zsh-4.2.6-1.i386.rpm
    [root@ivan tmp]# rpm -qa|grep zsh
    zsh-4.2.6-1

  • Do i need to uninstall excel 2004 before installing 2011?

I am upgranding to Lion and Microsoft Excel and Office will not run under Lion.
I am upgrading to office 2011.
Do I need to uninstall office 2004 prior to installing 2011.
If so how do I unintall 2044.
    thanks

Not a bad idea to remove the old first. There is a removal tool. I don't have Office 2004 on a computer here but, in Office 2008, this path of drives and folders leads to the Uninsaller:
Macintosh HD > Applications > Microsoft Office 2008 > Additional Tools > Remove Office
Although the path may be slightly different in 2004, I think the tool has been named "Remove Office" for most versins of Office. If all eles fails, try a Spotlight search for it.
Note that the uninstaller will not affect Office files you have created.

  • Do I need to uninstall CS5.5 before installing CS6 apps from Creative Cloud?

The video suggests you uninstall any Beta versions but says nothing about previous version of the apps.

Hi. I left CS5 on, installed CS6. There was a problem with the shortcuts but both CS6 and CS5 work. What I just found was that although files (.jpg in this case) opened through Bridge CS6 in Photoshop CS6, Windows Explorer still has CS5 associated with opening the file type. I could change that file type by file type but would guess there's a better way to get all file associations moved from CS5 to CS6. Thanks!

  • Do I need to uninstall academic version before installing retail version?

I've been using my academic version of Final Cut Studio professionally and decided that I would buy the retail version when Studio 3 came out. So I purchased the New Version and am about to install. Since this is a full version, and not an upgrade version, I'm wondering if I need to uninstall my academic version of Studio 2 first?

Read this thread for some great tips:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2113535&tstart=50
Your new full version should just overwrite the old one in any case, but Jerry and the others give sound advice in the thread linked above.

  • Do I need to uninstall pages '08 before installing the newest version?

I bought a new MacPro in November 2013 and the technician transferred my iLife 'o8 package with Pages in it.
Can I install the newest Pages and Numbers over the existing ones, or do I need to uninstall the old ones first?
Can't seem to find a straight answer on the internet.
Thanks for a quick yes or no!  If it's a 'yes', do you know how, or have a link that says how?
    Glenn

The deal is I want the pages in my iPad mini to talk with the pages version on the laptop.  That's the only reason I even want it since I usually use Microsoft Office, which talks to my windows friends with more ease.
Just in case anyone else is reads this thread, I just discovered that in the app store that when I clicked on 'purchases' there was a section that said I could download pages, numbers, and keynote for free.  I was ready to purchase them individually.  Saved from my own folly at the last minute...
Thanks again Fruhulda - if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have found the free stuff.

  • Need to reinstall Lightroom 3 before installing LR 5 upgrade?

I previously purchased and installed Lightroom 3, but uninstalled it when it kept crashing. I decided I'd just stick with Elements. Now, I want to buy the LR 5 upgrade. Can I just install the upgrade, or would I have to reinstall LR 3 first? I'm pretty sure I registered LR 3 with Adobe.
Also, if I do have to reinstall LR 3 first, do I have to convert all 5 of my Elements 9 catalogs into LR 3, or can I wait until I install the LR 5 upgrade and then convert my catalogs in LR 5?

It isn't necessary to install Lightroom 3 first. But you will need to have the serial number available. Since you purchased an upgrade you will need the old serial number as well as the new one when you install Lightroom 5.

  • Do I need to remove old drivers before installing new ones (Windows XP)

I have an  Acer Aspire 3690 laptop with Windows XP home edition installed. I've reinstalled the OS by using recovery tool, updated it again. I want to finish setting my laptop up by updating some drivers, mainly chipset and GPU. I've already found that newer ones are availabe. But do I need remove the old drivers first to avoid any problems in the future? Or do I just run the setup executable of every driver?

Run the setup and check if the new one are installed; if not remove the old drivers and install the new.
