Do I need to install  Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware

Hiya,
I recently bought a new Macbook Pro,it is Mac OS X version 10.4.8, i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)?
I also tried to install MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2, however it says the computer doesn't need to install it. And I checked my Boot ROM Version is MBP22.00A5.B00. After the update it should be: MBP11.0055.B08 (MacBook Pro 15 inch). So I don't know what to do?
please help!
Thanks.
Catherine

"Do I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware"
You don't "need" to install anything. If you think you can benefit from the updates then go ahead.
"i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)? "
If it came with 10.4.8 preinstalled, then you do not need to install it.
"So I don't know what to do?"
Nothing. If it says the update isn't needed, then it's already been applied at the factory.

I installed Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo) and when I rebooted I can no longer open Mail 4.2. I get a message saying the this version is not compatible with the OS. Any thoughts?
    Thanks for your help.

I didn't use the combo update, but when I went to 10.6.4 it automatically upgraded my Mail to version 4.3.
Why not try doing an upgrade of Mail?

  • Javadoc after Mac OS X 10.6 Java Update 3 and Java Developer Package

I can't seem to find javadocs, src, nor any real documentation on my Mac after installing Mac OS X 10.6 Java Update 3 and the Java Developer Package. NetBeans used to just find it, and now doing a find as shown below reveals nothing. Does the Developer Package actually include docs anymore? If so, where do I find them?
    find /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/ -name "doc*"
    find /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/ -name "src*"
    find /System/Library/Java/ -name "doc*"
None of these turn up anything.
    Thanks!

It took me a while but I solved it like this:
In NetBeans, open the Java Platform Manager (Tools -> Java Platforms).
Click the Add Platform... button in the lower left corner.
Select Java Standard Edition (selected by default).
In the File field, enter: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_22-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home
    Click Next >
The Platform Sources field should say: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_22-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home/src.jar
If the Platform Javadoc field is empty, browse to or enter: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_22-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home/docs.jar
    Click Finish
    Exit NetBeans.
    Open: /Applications/NetBeans/NetBeans 6.8.app/Contents/Resources/NetBeans/etc/netbeans.conf (e.g. in TextEdit)
Beneath the line that says: #netbeans_jdkhome="/path/to/jdk"
    Enter: netbeansjdkhome="/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.022-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home"
Overriding the default location in the netbeans.conf file may be enough such that you don't need to add the platform in the Netbeans Java Platform Manager.

  • The additional components needed to install mac os x cant be found

help, i did a clean reinstall using a USB, now its saying "the additional components needed to install mac os x cant be found" what do i do? i wiped my whole computer!...

Not on my late 2011 15" MBP. When I use just Cammond+r it takes me to the built in recovery HD.
Even with no HDD in the system Command+r gives me nothing, no options at all and certainly not the Internet Recovery system.
Command+Option+r gives me the Internet Recovery system with or without a HDD in the system and with or without a Recovery HD partition on the internal drive.
So it would seem it is different for different models and whether or not there is or isn't a recovery partition on the internal drive.
So for anyone reading this thread try both Command+r and Command+Option+r to boot the computer from the Apple Online Lion Internet Recovery system.
    Thanks.

I'm trying to install the latest version of iTunes and the pop up tells me that I need to install Mac OS X 10.5. How do I do that?

OS 10.5.x is the max OS for Macs with a PowerPC processor. If your iMac has an Intel processor you can upgrade to Snow Leopard OS 10.6.x and possibly Lion OS 10.7

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

  • Can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x lion

I recently upgraded the RAM in my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) to 16gigs.  The process went smooth at first.  Then the Computer would not boot and stayed on the white Apple screen with the circle spinning. A progress bar would appear and disapear but it would never get past that screen.  I tried to fix that but ended up backing up my hard drive and now I am attempting to restore the unit using "command + R" at startup.  I have eraseed and reformated the drive using with Disk Utilities OSX extend journaled. Then I attempt to reinstall and the unit is connected to my wifi which is fast and stable and I get, "can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x lion."    I have tried this many times

I still have the 16gigs of ram in the macbook pro which I am told this unit supports both by OWC (which is where i bought it) both identical 2x8gig sticks ddr3 1333

  • Can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x, what shall i do?

can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x, check your internet connection and try again-  that's the error always showing when im reinstalling the os on my macbook air. what shall i do? please i need help.

Not sure 10.7.3 is still available over the internet download system. I think Apple waws more on the ball this time and switched the Recovery HD system download over to 10.7.4 fairly Quickly.
That may or may not be part of your problem.
It may also be your internet connection is flakey and is dropping the connection with the download server.
If you are doing this over a WiFi connection try connecting the Mac to your router with an Ethernet cable.

  • I really need help installing mac os 10.0

i just bought mac os 10.0 and i was trying to install it on my imac g3 running 9.1 and it goes to setup and asks to choose a destination drive. It shows my hdd and the cd-rom BUT it will not let me select either one. does anybody have any suggestions?
    Apple Imac   Mac OS 9.1.x

OK. To run OS X will require several things.
    1. You will need to install a firmware update. This must be done while booted into OS 9.1 or higher (not OS X.) You must install the firmware update before attempting to install OS X.
    2. You must partition your hard drive such that the first partition is no larger than 7.85 GBs. OS X must be installed on this partition. The other partition can be the remaining space on the hard drive. The drive must be formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+). You can do this using Drive Setup on your OS 9.1 or higher Installer CD (you must boot from the CD.)
    3. After partitioning I suggest you first reinstall OS 9.1 or higher and be sure it's working before trying to install OS X. You should be able to install OS 9 on the larger partition.
    4. After you get OS 9 installed and working you can then boot from the OS X Installer and install it on the smaller partition.
Again, I would strongly advise against installing 10.0 as it is Beta software. I would not install any version of OS X except 10.3.x (Panther.) Panther is the last release of OS X that can be installed on your iMac.
I would add more RAM to your computer. If you have a Revision A motherboard model you can expand RAM to 384 MBs. If you have a Revision B motherboard model you can expand RAM to 512 MBs. I would highly advise adding the max you can. OS X will run relatively slowly on your hardware because it does not have either the CPU or video horsepower needed for decent performance from OS X.
Note, too, that you will have to upgrade all of your software to OS X compatible versions. OS 9 software will not run in OS X except via the Classic emulator built into OS X.

  • Need help installing Mac OS X

Okay, I just got my macbook today, turned it on, loaded some pictures, then noticed the two disks called "Mac OS X". I have never owned a mac and just assumed I needed to install these two discs. A few minutes into installing the first disk, I realized I already had Mac OS X, that it was the operating system (duh). I cancelled the installation. A message came up and said that if I cancel installing I would need to reboot my computer, and would I like it to reboot with Mac OS X from my hard drive or from the CD in the drive? I said from the hard drive. What I think happened was that while I was installing the OS it was deleting what was already on my computer.
When the macbook restarted, it gave the the apple and the gear turning. I have tried to safeboot it to no avail. I cannot eject disk one of the OS from the disk drive. I have tried fsck and it didn't help. What I CAN do is get to the single-user mode screen...
Is there ANY way to install the operating system from "single-user mode"? Since the disk is stuck in the drive anyway?
Also, I'm guessing on the 10.4.3, I didn't get a chance to really see the numbers
    PLEASE HELP

    adjectiveclaws,
You should be able to boot to the installer disk, and you'll need to do so. At the startup chime, hold down the "C" key. This should get you booted to the installer disk.
Assuming the installer loads, choose a language, then open Disk Utility from the "Utilities" menu. Select the internal hard drive, then switch to the "Erase" pane. Make sure the format is "Mac OS Extended (journaled)," and click "Erase." Quit Disk Utility to return to the installer, then proceed to install OS X normally.

  • I Need to install mac os x 10.6!, I Need to install mac os x 10.6!

I recently bought a mac mini server because i needed a server but now i just want to uninstall server and reinstall os x 10.6! But i am not sure how!

You have a bootable DVD with the operating system on it (the one sold by Apple)? And an external Mac Book Air Superdrive (works on Mac Mini Server as well)?
If so, hook the gear up, insert the disk and upon rebooting hold the alt-key, which searches for available options to boot from, then choose the DVD, Et Voila!

  • Re-install Mac OS X 10.6.7 update?

    Hi @all
I was just wondering as I have a couple of problems with the latest Mac OS X 10.6.7 update if it is possible to re-install this update? When I updated from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 my MB froze and I had to force it to shut down. Since then I have some minor problems. If the re-install is possible which 10.6.7 update should I use (the combo or normal version?) and can I just start the 10.6.7 update without having to consider anything else?
    Thanks for your help.

You can apply the 10.6.7 combo update without any other consideration.  Obviously you should have a good backup.
The normal 10.6.7 update won't apply because it need a base system of 10.6.6.
The combo update can be found here:

  • Installing Mac OSX 10.4.11 combined update

I'm having issues with my Mac locking up. The mouse, pointer freezes and everything locks up completely, forcing me to restart. I thought just reinstalling my 10.4.11 combined update would fix it, but I'm now in the middle of the process and wonder if I've done the right thing. I've just installed the combined update and it's telling me to restart, but I'm worried now that it might mess something up. If I just restart will it screw anything up? Maybe it won't fix my problem, but I just don't want to lose anything I have on my machine. So if I just get out of this process I'll be happy.
Also, I purchased Tiger early on, but can only find my 10.3 Tiger disc, not a 10.4. There should have been a straight 10.4 disc, correct? Since I purchased it, way back when, shouldn't I be able to pay for a replacement disc and shipping? Then I could replace my system, hopefully curing my problem.
My Mac has been so reliable over the years I can't even remember whether there truly even was a 10.4 disc. It's been so long since I've had problems.
Thank you in advance for your help!
    Leonard

    Hi Leonard,

Too late, only way out is to restart.
Also, I purchased Tiger early on, but can only find my 10.3 Tiger disc, not a 10.4. There should have been a straight 10.4 disc, correct?
Correct, & do not use the 10.3's Disk Utility on a 10.4 volume.
Since I purchased it, way back when, shouldn't I be able to pay for a replacement disc and shipping?
No, the only "Replacement Discs" they might have are the ones your Mac came with, 10.3 apparently.
