Do I need to install the Flip4Mac uninstaller to uninstall Flip4Mac..?

I updated Quicktime to 7.5 and am now, along with many others, having problems with choppy playback.
I have Flip4mac installed and now want to uninstall this to see whether that may be accentuating the problem. Spotlight has revealed a package called Flip4mac uninstaller which if I double click on it comes up with an install window...in other words it seems I am being prompted to install an uninstaller in order to delete Flip4Mac..!
Is this correct? Seems a long winded way of getting rid of an application. Won't this just leave another piece of the software associated with Flip4mac that then needs deleting itself.?!
Is there a better way of deleting Flip4Mac off my system?

Right, i got fed up and did some messing around of my own. In my QT components folder were a load of codecs, as you would expect, including Perian, which i installed earlier as it seemed to have helped others. On a hunch, i figured that if 2 of the components in a folder could both be used by QT to open a movie, QT would use the first one installed. Therefore i took components out 1 by 1 until i got audio playing. This happened after i removed the XVid 1.0 alpha component. To make sure i was right i swapped them over a few times, and had them in the same folder as well, and indeed, QT would play audio when the XVid component was not present, or if it was present but had been added after the Perian component.
So now i had audio. However, now QT would take a ** of a long tome to load any videos, a very frustratingly long time in fact. So now i investigated the new problem and found a post here http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php?id=22923 about how Perian 1.1 makes this happen, with a tip to go to http://mac.majorgeeks.com/ and replace it with it's previous version. I did this, and bingo bango, video _+ audio loading as it should.
So, installing Perian will fix the problem of the audio - if you remove certain other components first, and then replacing it with its previous version (1.0) will solve the slow-loading issue.
To which I made the following response:
That is a most interesting observation, and confirms that the location and version of plug-ins for QT plays a part.
In my HD Library/Quicktime I have Perian 1.1, Flip4Mac components, Apple Intermediate Codec, and AC3 Movieimport component. I don't have XVid.
The link you provided to Macupdate, as far as I can see, refers to problems with Perian 1.1 and QT 7.4.1, not 7.5, and another 'variable' is that you are running Leopard and I am running Tiger.
It may therefore be that Perian 1.1 works better with Tiger than leopard?
Or that Perian 1.0 works better with Leopard than Tiger?!
Either way, and this needs further exploration, it seems that certain combinations of third party plug-ins do not work when you have QT 7.5, and possibly that updating those components cures the issue with QT 7.5.
The presence of DivX in that folder when Perian is present is known to cause problems.
Thank you for posting your findings.
You may find that worth exploring.

Thanks. Using IE go to Tools>Manage add ons and find Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control..Flash10e.ocx and make sure it is enabled.
Do the same thing using FF and look in plug-ins for SWF vs 10.0.45.2 and make sure it is enabled.
I would also check a few other sites as it could be this is isolated to Facebook.
    Thanks,

  • To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.

Recently updated to OSX Yosemite.  Now every time I turn the computer on I get this message.
To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.
I don't know what CS5ServiceManager is.  And when I click on the "More Info" button, I am redirected to a blank screen.  So I'm confused and a little worried.  Is it necessary to install Java SE 6 runtime?  If so, I think I can find the instructions on how to do it, but I'd like to know if (1) it is safe to do so and (2) if it's necessary.

Here it is: Apple Java 2014-001. Quite safe to install. Only necessary if you are using Adobe's CS5 suite.

  • When I try and open adobe illustrator I get a pop up message saying "To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."

When I try and open adobe illustrator I get a pop up message saying "To open “Adobe Illustrator CS6” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." it also says "Click “More Info…” to visit the legacy Java SE 6 download website." When i click more info it transfers me to an apple page which never loads, its just a blank page. I downloaded Java SE 6 like it says it needs but it did nothing. All of my other Adobe programs such as bridge, dreamweaver, lightroom, Photoshop, indesign, and flash all work except for illustrator. What can I do to fix this?

Go to Apple and look for the Java for OSX 2014-001 link. Download from there and install it.

  • Do I need to install the drivers on my old Mac Pro disc or from my Snow Leopard disc?

    Hi,
    I've got a 2008 Mac Pro (dual quad @ 3GHz) w/ 24GB RAM and I've got Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed. What do I need to install?
On my newer 2009 iMac (which included Mac OS X 10.6) I just inserted that disc specific to the iMac and installed the drivers, but the disc for my Mac Pro is old (10.5.2) do I need to install the drivers on it or not? Can I just insert my Snow Leopard 10.6 disc to install Boot Camp etc., or won't that include drivers for the Mac Pro? The Mac Pro is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply,
I have both the silver discs specific to my iMac and Mac Pro models that you receive with your Mac, and a general copy of Snow Leopard that you buy from the store.
I used the silver disc that is specific for my iMac to install the drivers, and Boot Camp 3.0 on my iMac. But with the Mac Pro, the software is older and only has Boot Camp 2.0, thus I'm wondering if I can simply use the software on the general copy of Snow Leopard I own, or does the silver disc contain specific drivers for my Mac Pro that I need?
I'm under perhaps the wrong impression that the silver discs that you get with your Mac purchase contain drivers for your specific Mac model which you can't get from the general Snow Leopard disc.
    Thanks.

I keep getting this pop up - To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment. How do I get rid of it.

Most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it. Otherwise, install Java.

  • I need to install the SOLMAN, in my landscape or another server ??

    Hi experts,
My landscape is the typical landscape; Production Server, Test Server and development Server.
I need to install the SAP Solution Manager; This installation would have to do it in some of my existing servers (Production, Test or Development) or it would have to do it in another one?
    Thank's
    Douglas V.

    Hi Douglas,
Before deciding where to install Solman also take into account below checks -
1] Incase you will be using Solman diagnostics+Wily introscope functionality of solman, I would certainly recommend to install solman on a separate host as these tools hog lot of memory resources.
2] For basic use of solman - EWA, install keys generation, ccms...you can think of installing on existing box - but still it should be strong in configuration. As SAP is adding lots of features in EHP packs and sooner or later you will need to use those.
My 2 cents. (rewards points if useful)
    Thanks

  • Do we need to install the data host proxy on the SUN server?

    Hi folks,
Hopefully somebody can help me out here as I’m new to sun storage. Basically we have one 6140 arrays attached to Solaris servers. We have installed the CAM software on a CentOS system and connected to the array. We also created the VOLUMEs.
When we check the storage from the Solaris server, we can only see those single disks, but not the volumes we created.
Wandering do we need to install the proxy in the Solaris server to get those volume info?
    Thanks,

I enabled the MPXIO, still the same, please check the returns for the commands you requested:

  • Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

While I agree with the direction of the suggestions with installing packages for X-windows, we do not have a blanket 'apply any package' recommendation.
In particular we do not support altering the kernel (although we do have exceptions which we review on a case by case basis).
Basically, if the you want to alter functionality that would not impact core functionality you are usually fine.
A good guideling is : The more dependencies that there are between the package / rpm you are considering using the higher the potential impact on functionality - meaning higher chance for problems
Note: We do use VNC including Real and Tiger regularly , but we have no hard recommendation on how you may want to use X-windows. I have never seen a limitation other than comments on bugs
or incompatibility within the X-window product itself with certain kernel levels.
Patching may overwrite some packages that you may install, however,  _depending on packages/rpms added_ there is also the possibility that you will break existing functionality to the point
that patching itself will fail ( we have already seen a few cases of this in which case the proper mitigation is to remove / roll-back any alterations to the ODA before patching, and then adding the packages/rpms
back after the patching is completed.
From what you are discussing the impact should be low without conflicts, but please consider the above, and if you have specific packages which you consider potential problems
please create an SR so that we can review packages / rpms on an individual basis.
Once again: the main criteria for not supporting rpms is regarding the kernel itself

  • You may not need to install the Run Time Engine...

I know this has been mentioned before, but after a long search of the archives, I couldn't find the right person to give credit to - sorry!
If you have a simple exe, you may not need to install the runtime engine on the target machine at all - all you need to do is include some of the engine's files with the exe for it to work. Try it out: copy the following files & folders into the folder containing your exe:
    ..\National Instruments\shared\nicontdt.dll
    ..\National Instruments\shared\nicont.dll
    ..\National Instruments\shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\your_version\everything (including all sub-directories)
so, using 6.1 as an example, you exe's directory would like something like:
    ..\AppDirectory\MyApp.exe
    ..\AppDirectory\MyApp.ini
    ..\AppDirectory\My_Apps_DLLs,if_any
    ..\AppDirectory\nicontdt.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\nicont.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\lvapp.rsc
    ..\AppDirectory\lvjpeg.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\lvpng.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\lvrt.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\mesa.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\serpdrv
    ..\AppDirectory\models\heaps_of_stuff_in_here
    ..\AppDirectory\errors\more_stuff_in_here
    ..\AppDirectory\script\and_some_bits_in_here_too
Take all of this data to a machine without LabVIEW or the runtime installed, and try to run the exe - all going well, it will execute without any problems. This exe distribution method can be really useful, especially when distributing autorun presentations on CD-ROMs.

Yes, this method is not supported. However, this method is good if you wish to write your own installer for a LabVIEW Application. (Note: The method above does not install DataSocket, NI-Reports, or any of the 3D Graph controls.)
I would still suggest running the LabVIEW Run-time Engine installer so that more than one application can use it.
