Do I need to keep my apps on my Mac in iTunes if they are now in iCloud?

Can't I throw out all those apps that are on my MacBook pro taking up hard drive space if I am now using iCloud and getting all my updates over the air to each of my IOS devices?
Is there any reason to keep them on the Mac?

Only thing i can think of is the local backup function, besides that it's just a total waste unless apple has plans to make them play on the mac... Imagine that, the so many thousands of apps available for the mac like that. What a keynote that would be "and today we are announcing hundreds and thousands of apps for the mac, instantly"

iOS 7 devices need iTunes 11.1 or newer to sync.  Depending upon your computer and the OS it is running, you may not be able to upgrade to iTunes 11.1 based on the requirements for iTunes 11.1.  What computer and OS are you running your iTunes on?  From the iTunes download pages I see the requiorements are:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

    Hi Jakeylittle,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues entering or changing your billing information for your iTunes Store account, you may find the following article helpful:

I am trying to update my apps, but an old, deactivated iTunes account comes up.  My iCloud is set to my new account.  Why is this happening?

Because all apps are FOREVER tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them, & they can only be updated using that ID.

  • Enlarge page size but keep all margins, text, images as they are now using ID CS 5.5?

How do I enlarge the page size of a file in ID CS 5.5 while keeping all text, margins, images as they are now? Using a mac.

    Hi Buzz,
The issues you are having are caused by some underlying differences in the flex libraries in EB 3.4 and 4.5. Using EB 4.5 allows using flex spark components however these are not backward compatible to CS 5.5. In order to have an extension that is backwards compatible to CS 5.5 we strongly advise using EB 3.4. That does unfortunately mean that you will not be able to use the design view. The AutoTheme library was created to provide the theme syncing ability that is available in EB 4.5 through the "CSInterface.instance.autoThemeColorChange = true; call to EB 3.4 extensions and does not work with EB 4.5 (as you have found) because it is trying to set the theme of a different set of UI components which are not available in EB 4.5.
    So to summarize:
AutoTheme.sync() is what you should use for EB 3.4
"CSInterface.instance.autoThemeColorChange = true; should be used with EB 4.5
they provide equivalent functionality and should not be mixed.
Finally we would strongly advise using EB 3.4 for CS5.5 extensions.
For the combo box issue unfortunately we only had the capacity to create a broad theme that should cover the majority of the controls correctly, however some controls are not ideally themed. However we do provide AutoTheme.postThemeColorChange which can be set a function to run immediately following theme setting that should allow you to customize the theme to cover these cases.
    I hope that helps,
    Thanks,
    Robert.

Have AE7; Problem importing prproj file into pc; get placeholder instead. What do I need to do to open up the video files here. They are .mov in quicktime.

Please be more specific. What Premiere project? What version of Premiere? Which operating system? What CoDecs do the QT fiels use? Are all the video files in the correct folders inside the Premiere project structure? Your description sounds like you are attempting to open a Mac based project on a PC and your video files are either in the wrong location or use a Mac-specific CoDec, hence they cannot be read on a PC.

  • I transferred my apps from one Mac to a new one and now my Elements won't open Why?

I transferred my apps from one Mac to a new one and now my Elements won't open Why?

You can never, never transfer an installed copy of PSE. PSE is not a tidy package like most mac apps; the installer strews stuff all over your hard drive and neither you nor the migration assistant can ever hope to find all the necessary bits and pieces.
Now you have kind of a mess to clean up. First download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
It won't seem to do anything, but it's necessary in order for you to be able to successfully manually remove what did get transferred so that you can reinstall PSE.
Then go around and remove all the bits you can find, not only from applications but from your user>library>preferences and especially from hard drive>library>application support. Note that those are two different libraries.
Then you can reinstall PSE from scratch.

  • I updated to IOS 5 and apparently didn't get my apps backed up. So, they are now lost. Is there any way to restore them?

I updated to IOS 5 and apparently didn't get my apps backed up. So, they are now lost. Is there any way to restore them?

Are they backed up to your computer? If so you can go to the "Apps" tab in the main window of your iPad and resync them there.
    OR
On you iPad go to App Store > Updates and the first tab should be something called "Purchased" (if you have already entered you Apple ID) and you can re-download from there.

  • The new iOS 6.0 update doesn't show my apps on my home screen. They are in the iCloud but only give me the option to open therm. How do I get these apps back to my home screen?

My apps are not showing on my home screen after the new iOS 6 update. They are in my iCloud but it only gives me and option to open. How do I get these apps back on my home screen?

Do you have an Restrictions set that would hide the apps? Settings>General>Restrictions
Have you used the Spotlight search? Maybe you just can't find them.
    Next
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Some websites keep asking to enable cookies in my browser when they are and I can't get this sites to see that, they worked fine yesterday but not now. I've restarted the browser, restarted the computer, disabled then enabled cookies in the privacy settings and still nothing. Any help?

    Hi,
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • Do we need to keep IOS apps in iTunes if we now sync to the cloud

If all of our apps are now stored in iCloud is it still necessary to maintain them in our iTunes account on our macs, I have an air with limited HD space and with over 250 apps it takes up quite a chunk of space. If we can get updates to our apps in the mobile app and all our purchases are stored in iTunes storewhere they can be downloaded, it should be safe to delete the apps but I dread having to redownload if Im wrong. Further more will turning off the sync feature in itunes app section cause the apps on my phone to be erased?  Am I missing something?
    thx
    tony

First, it's always been okay to delete apps from your phone because you can download then again at no additional cost, assuming they are still in the store. You can re-download to your phone, or to iTunes and sync them with your device.
With iOS 5 and iCloud, you don’t have to sync your device with iTunes at all. Interestingly, you can still use the device while syncing is occurring, whereas before it would interrupt syncing.
Both iTunes on the computer and the Store settings on the devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) have a setting for “Automatic Downloads”. With that on, your devices will automatically download anything purchased in iTunes on your computer, and iTunes on your computer will automatically download anything purchased on your devices. You can turn it off in iTunes on your computer if you don’t want to download new purchases to your computer with very little hard drive space. If you have only one device, and won’t be using iTunes on your computer to make purchases, then there’s really no point in turning on “Automatic Downloads” on your solitary device. The “Automatic Downloads” setting only affects the device where it is activated, so setting it on your iPhone won’t affect your computer, and setting if for your computer won’t affect your iPad, and so forth.
Keep in mind that not everything that is in the iTunes Store will stay there forever. Some items do get removed from the store for various reasons, such as an artist, developer, or studio changing their mind about selling it there, and so you won’t be able to download them again if that happens. If you don’t want them on your computer, ideally you would save copies to an external hard drive, at the very least.
That’s the obligatory warning about backing up, which iTunes always warns you in the EULA and elsewhere.
If you delete anything out of your iTunes library, but still want it on your devices, then you will pretty much have to not sync with iTunes ever again. Otherwise, iTunes will try to match everything on your computer (or whatever is selected for that device) with what’s on the device, and vice versa.
With iOS 5 and iCloud, not syncing with iTunes becomes a much more sane option than it was before. This does not remove your responsibility for backing up what you have purchased. If you don’t want it on your computer, you should figure out where else to keep your own personal backup. Again, an artist, or developer, or studio, or whoever created whatever you purchased may change their mind and decide to have the item removed from the store. If that happens, you won’t be able to download it again. This has happened many times already; it’s not often, but it does happen.
If you sync your device with iTunes, you’ll get a dialog asking whether you’d like to transfer the purchased items found on your device to iTunes. If you decline to transfer them to iTunes, then the purchased items on your device will be deleted. If you do that, then you’d have to re-download them again, which you’d likely do directly from your device and that would likely take forever if you did every single time.
    In short:
Yes, you can delete the apps and any other purchases from iTunes.
Be sure to use iCloud on your devices, and turn on iCloud's backup option so it'll save your apps data.
Then, do not sync your devices with iTunes ever again.
Also, do not depend on your purchases remaining in the iTunes Store forever.
Keep your own personal backup of all your purchases, just in case they are removed from the store (by the content creator’s request, Apple’s reasons, earthquake, apocalypse, etc.) This will require:
    downloading new purchases to iTunes;
    choose File > Show in Finder;
    copy it to an external hard drive;
then you go back to iTunes and delete it in iTunes (not the Finder) so iTunes will know and keep your library clean.
    Hmm, so much for "short".

  • Do I need to keep mobile applications on my Mac?

I have 34 GB of mobile applications from iTunes on my Mac. They are taking up toomuch space. I am not able to use my Mac daily because it is filled up with all of these apps. Do I need to keeps these on my computer for game data? If so, how would I shrink the size of the files to not be so big?

You're correct, you don't. Just exercise sensible caution when opening or forwarding emails that contain unsolicited attachments, and don't install software of unknown or suspect provenance.

  • Someone gave me an ipad can I keep the apps and sync with my iTunes?

Someone gave me an iPad 2 and I was wondering if I sync it with my computer is there a way to keep the apps that are currently on the iPad?

You need to update to the latest iOS 5.1.1.
See iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - Disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Cant save app docs to mac via itunes

I have lots of docs on ipad app but dont have a subscription to Adobe DC. It doesnt let me save the app docs to my mac via itunes. How do i get around this problem? How can i save all docs or multiple docs from app to cloud at same time?

One reason I still do is because that is your only recourse if an App or a specific version is pulled from the App store or replaced with a different version.  There are no guarantees that any particular app or version of an app will always be available for download.
I actually do still use several free apps that long ago now were removed and replaced with for-fee apps instead.  While I have no issue with that, I don't need the new paid versions for what I use them for.  My only way to ever put those back on my devices if needed is from my own backed up copies in iTunes on my computer.
Or, for example, you have a machine that is no longer compatible with iOS updates.  Those new features lead developers to change their apps such that they require the newer iOS to run.  If you still want to keep using your perfectly good old device with your apps, you need to have kept copies of them somewhere as once pulled from the store by the developer, they are gone.
