Hi,
In the past iChat has worked with AIM Names to AIM names on a PC using the AIM for PC app.
However this has not always been easy and AIM have just changed their App and now use Flash to get Video into the App (Making it incompatible with iChat).
Although iChat can use Jabber IDs (Includes GoogleTalk and Facebook IDs) and in iChat 6 Yahoo names these only work iChat to iChat.
About 3 or 4 years ago it did seem that the major players were all moving towards a standard way of doing things. (it did look a long way off though) However more recently they have moved away from each other again.
You may find Skype is a better option across Platforms (Mac to PC) or using sites like MeBeam
These needs Flash to be enabled in your Browser
Type a room name in the text box on the site.
It will take you to that "room"
Copy URL of room and send it to Buddy and they will join you in that room.

Since downloading and installing mavericks and safari I cannot use video calling on Facebook. How can I configure that so that it works?

I have this same issue! The button for to launch video chat isn't even there and when I go into skype to video in there I am able to get about 30 second of video then it freezes and won't come back.

Can I dial an IP address to make a video call in iChat?

I currently connect to work using a PC and a Polycom software that allows me to:
1. Dial to a device in an IP Address
2. The software provides encryption for the video conversation
Is this something that I can do with iChat? I will like to switch to my macbook instead of using the PC. Anybody has any ideas or suggestion for a software that can do this and be compatible with mac. I called Polycom and they just told me they are not supporting Mac. Thanks!

Re 1) No. iChat can not do this. (It does use the SIP Protocol to connect to another iChat user but the server it does this through does not connect to POTS or other SIP/VoIP services).
Re 2) Yes and No on this one. If you have a paid for MobileMe account (An email ending in @me.com can be used as an AIM valid Screen Name) you can Enable Encryption in iChat but only to other MobileMe/iChat users.

Does anyone know how to separate a movie track from an audio track on the new Mavericks Garage band. It used to be very easy on the iLife 11 version. If anyone could respond ASAP I'd be grateful. I need to make an audio file from a video.

I urgently need to make some audio tracks from videos using the new 2013 GarageBand. In iLife11 Garageband, this was very easy. However, I cannot see how to do it in the new one. The alternative might be to revert to the iLife11 version, so does anyone know how to do this. It's extremely urgent since I need to produce these for a court custody hearing which will take place at 0800 GMT UK time on 31st October 2013. Please help.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

I have a logo (attached) which currently has a white background and I need to make it transparent for use on my web page. I have a manual but am finding it confusing. Would really appreciate an answer in simple terms as I am new to this.

First rename the Background layer to anything else; it is sufficient to double click the layer in the Layers Palette and acccept the default name "Layer 0". Then remove the background using various PSE tools. The background will be replaced by a checkerboard pattern indicating transparency.
Since your background is a solid color, you can use the Magic Wand to select it. In my example below I used the Magic Wand default options: Tolerance 32, Anti-aliased and Contiguous boxes checked. Holding down <Shift>, click in the white areas until all of it is selected (it took me 2 clicks), then <Delete>. This however may not select all of it. For purposes of example I added a red layer at the bottom. You can see that a few timy areas were not selected so you can manually remove these with the Eraser tool; zoom way in, choose a small hard Eraser brush size, and paint or click on the pixels.
In this logo it also works if you uncheck the Contiguous box and then one click in the white selects it all (except again for the few stray pixels). However, be careful doing this since the click might select areas within the logo. Here I unchecked the Contiguous box, set Tolerance to 60, and clicked on the white background; some white on the SHRUBBERIES letter were selected:
Anyway, once you have deleted the background save the file in a format that supports transparency. PSD, TIFF, PNG, PNG, GIF, EPS support transparency. JPG, BMP do not. For Web applications, you probably want GIF.
Note: the reason for renaming the Background layer is that areas deleted on this layer are replaced not by transparency but by the current color as defined in the background color swatch at the bottom of the toolbar.

Schedule WLAN configuration changes using CPI

I need to make some configuration changes to a WLAN on our controllers after hours, yet I cant figure out how to do it. The controllers are running v 7.3.101.0 (5508s & 2504s), CPI is version 1.3
When I go to Configure > Scheduled Configuration Tasks > WLAN Configuration I get the following message
No saved task exists. You can schedule WLAN task for required Controller from " Configure > Controllers > COntroller IP > WLANs > Wlan configuration" page.
When I go there I dont see any options to schedule a change. When I make configuration changes to a WLAN and click save I get a warning messages that leads me to believe that the changes will be effective immediately.
Am I missing something?

Need to find the backend system used by HCM P&F

we have a dedicated e-Recruiting system installed separately from ERP (HR).
we are using MSS iview "create requisition request" (this is used in the eRecruiting process).
I need to find (and confirm) that this process is using the correct backend SAP system.
where in the HCM process and forms is the backend system specified?

but I was not able to find the e-Recruiting system defined in there.

Hello Tiberiu,
the HCM P&F scenario does not need to identify a HR Core backend system. It is already processed there. The complete MSS requisition request process is running on the system which has PA, OM and so on installed. Once the process is done the requisition is created on the e-recruiting system via a RFC call. The RFC is also used to populate the dropdowns in the adobe form.
So the HCM P&F scenario needs to know where to find the E-Recruiting system. This is defined in T77S0 under ERMSS LOGSY. This can be either maintained via SM30 or in IMG under path Integration with Other mySAP.com Components -> Business Packages / Functional Packages -> Manager Self-Service (mySAP ERP) -> Recruitment -> Assign E-Recruiting System Name on the HR server.

you're opening your
own Sockets, you don't care.

We are not using Socket Connection in our program (in
our database driven website).Then you're all set. What I meant was, if you're creating new Sockets in your Servlet (which is not typical, but I've seen it done), then you'd need to worry about how to make an SSLSocket. Since you're not, you're all set.
As u explain that we have to replace http to https.
Is this is the only changes we have to make or any
other changes tobe made?No - change your URLs, and then read up on how to set up your ServletEngine so that it supports SSL, and you should be all set.

Deployment specific configuration - best practice

I'm trying to figure out the best way to set-up deployment specific configurations.
From what I've seen I can configure things like session timeouts and datasources. What I'd like to configure is a set of programmatically accessible parameters. We're connecting to a BPM server and we need to configure the URL, username and password, and make these available to our operating environment so we can set-up the connection.
Can we set-up the parameters via a deployment descriptor?
What about Foreign JNDI? Can I create a simple JNDI provider(from a file perhaps?) and access the values?
Failing these, I'm looking at stuffing the configuration into the database and pulling it from there.

Will allow you to change the values per deployment easily with a deployment plan.
Another alternative 10.3.2 and later is to use a features that allows resources like normal properties files to be overloaded by putting them in the plan directory. I don't have the link to this one right now.

Have a 3350 and would like to add it to my network. Do I need to make IOS changes?

In my home network I have a number of netgear gigabit unmanaged switches. My Firewall/Router acts as DHCP and DNS.
I would like to add a Cisco 3550 to segment the network and put all of my Tivo IPTV equipment on for fastest throughput. Not Vlan, just a physical where all the Tivo traffic from the DVR to all of the streaming devices will be on this switch and will not need to traverse the other network switches
As a test I plugged the 3550 into the network and then threw a workstation into the switch as well. I wasn't sure if the switch would do auto x over but it did and it appeard to work. I was able to get to the internet from the PC connected to the switch. When I tried to access my NAS from the computer it did not work.
I'm wondeing if I have to make any configuration changes to the switch in order to do what I'd like? Since everythig I use is unmanaged I don't have a lot of experienece with managed devices and it's been years and years since I've done any IOS (is it even still called that?) configuration.
I'm sure there are firmware updates for this switch it's been in a box for many years. Can I obtain firmware for this switch without any sort of subscription? If so, can you point me in the right direction.
Also, how do I get into this switch once it's on my network? Is there a web interface? SSH? or do I have to use the console port? It doesn't show up on my network as an IP address like some of my other gear does.
Would this work plug and play?

I don't think iTunes can do that. Your best source for finding out how is to search on Facebook. It will probably involve some sort of formatting for audio files you upload.
I presume when you say "my music" you really mean it is your music -- you singing and playing the guitar or something. Web sites are getting very wary of posting of copyright media.

I had to make a task in which there is a wall with 3 lines and 5 columns filled with bombs.When you click on a bomb the bomb changes its scale, a robot enters, goes under the bomb and takes it, then goes to a smaller wall, makes the bomb smaller and place it at the same place it had been in the previous wall.I made the task with tween througout as3 code.The interviewer told me it was good but i need to make it with the less code possible and with more complex timeline structure and to use event dispatcher.What is the best way to do this ?

The immediate thing that comes to mind is they might want to see that you can balance work between design teams and development teams.
To do that, the robots movements (pick up bomb, bomb grows/shrinks, arms/treads/legs moving, sequences of 'doing things') can be timeline based so animators can work on those separate from code.
Developers would be working on the logic of keeping score, moving the robot around to the correct spot with path detection, collision detection, etc.
It's very similar to thinking in simple factories (which Flash is good at being automatically with timelines), and a bit of MVC (or just VC in some cases).
Big companies have lots of different types of employees so you'll probably be very specific in your role so you're efficient.

No it doesn't erase anything by default, it does what we used to call an Archive and Install feature, which can give you a new OS, yet preserve your files and settings if you have enough room on your HD...

But it does it automatically unless you specifically erase the Disk, but will replace Tiger completely for the OS & several Apple Apps like Safari, Mail, etc, yet preserve your old settings for those!
If you think you may need Tiger to run any APPs that do not work in SL/10.6, then clone or backup first.
I would recomend 2 things before installing though...
Make sure you have enough RAM & HD space.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
   * Mac computer with an Intel processor
    * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
