Do i need to reconfigure OEM Database Control when change ip address?
Hi all.
Do i need to reconfigure OEM Database Control after a change of ip address?
I mean, i have an OEL5 box with 10g Rel2. I have configure the server with a static ip address.
This server will be sent to another location and it's possible the ip address will be changed. It will remain a static ip, but may change. Since i plan to deliver this server with rman jobs within OEM Database Control. I'd like to know if this will continue working after an eventual ip address change ....
Regards....!

Regards....!It depends.
When you created the dbcontrol, the configuration was put in a directory in ORACLE_HOME named something like 'hostname_sid' and there are also files under that where the hostname is baked into either the file name or a property of a configration defined within a file. If it is truly hostname, you might be ok, but if it is actually IP address instead of host name (I have seen that) then you obviously have a problem.
Over the years (and across several versions) I've found the OEM repository to be rather "brittle", and Oracle to have a rather cavalier attitude about rebuilding it. As a result, I specifically DO NOT have anything important - and very specifically my backup jobs - in the repository. I still schedule my backups through rman, though I know many people use dbms_scheduler. But even that appears to not be the same as an oem controlled schedule.

Is OEM database control configured for the DBs?
Hi
I have multiple oracle (10gR2) databases running on a linux (5.8) server. How can I check that for which of the databases has the OEM Database Control been configured and on what port is it listening?
Best regardsThank you everyone!
Here is what I see (I have changed the DB names):
==============
[oracle@vm58-1 install]$ emctl status dbconsole

So it seems that DB Console was configured for db1. When I try to start it, I get following output

And these "dots" just continue to appear and it is running for 15+ minutes now.
Please advise how to check what is happening.
Grid Control suggestion - I agree. I believe Grid Control is not free and the client does not seem to be interested to spend more money :-)

OEM Database Control and 10g Grid Control
Can any one tell the difference between OEM Database Control and OEM 10g Grid Control.
Database Control is the HTTP Management environment and comes installed with the 10g Database. It can be used to manage one database (one target) at a time (standalone). To monitor more than one database, you must create a new console on a different port for each database.
10g Grid Control is the Enterprise version in that you can monitor different Target from different operationg systems at the same time. These include Application Servers, Listeners, Operation Systems, Non Oracle Database Systems using plugins (from 10gR2).
So, for someone who was using OEM 9i, there was connection in to Standalone Console (Java) and Oracle Management Server (Java and HTML). In 10g, they are replaced with Database Control (Java and HTML versions) and Grid Control respectively. -
Where is Oracle streams in OEM database control?
Hi, friends:
trying to setup streams between two instances, suppose in OEM db control I can find a GUI tool, but can not find out it where, so where is Oracle streams in OEM database control?
thanks a lot in advance.When you say OEM database control it is not clear if you refer to the java gui OEM or the Web EM DB control console, as a de facto standard when you say OEM you refer to the 9i Java based GUI admin tool, on the other hand, when EM Control is mentioned it refers to the 10g web based admin tool.
If you mean the Java Console, you should consider reading this reference --> Using Oracle Streams to Integrate Your Data

What effect on OEM when change IP address on server?
Hi All,
I will change IP address on server that Oracle Enterprise Manager(OEM) is reside on what effect that occured on OEM when change IP address. What things need to be modified such as configuration files ,etc.
Thank you
Mckatrying to help Tom answer some of your questions. he may has better answer
1. Hosts file that you told are keep in client or
server(and what path?)it's a file for your OS to resolve hostname into IP address.
in unix it's usually under /etc/hosts
in windows it's under
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
filename is lmhosts
You don't really need the file if you use DNS, this lead to second question
2. What is the DNS ,Agent?DNS -> domain name server
It's a server help your resolve domain name, hostnames into IP address. So you can just type www.oracle.com to goto Oracle website instead of 141.146.8.66
DNS is not a single server on big network, especially internet. there are many servers and also DNS agent to help you get quick naming resolution. When server is updated the change need to be populated to other servers and agents.
3. Why is the reinstall OEM?maybe Tom want to change his server's hostname?
Like he said, OEM identify server by hostname not ip address, so you are safe to change IP address only. No need to reinstall
4. What is the OMS?typo?

Sorry,if I ask the basic questions.you come to the right place. -
How to (what to) download and install OEM database control
Hello
Can you please tell me the name of the file I should download (Is it still accessible?). I have download many of the oracle product files but don't have the OEM one burned to a CD.
I want to reinstall my database as I have changed my domain name and the OracleConsole(orcl)
I.E.
L:\app\owner\product\11.2.0\db_1\bin\nmesrvc.exe fails to start.
My situation is that I am using a single instance of Oracle 11G R2 for self educational training and development.
I am running on Windows XP SP3.Hi,
To create or recreate a database control you need to execute the following commands:
Create the DB Control Repository Objects and Configuration Files
$ <ORACLE_HOME>bin/emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create
ReCreate the DB Control Repository Objects and Configuration Files
$ <ORACLE_HOME>bin/emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate

Access OEM Database Control through IIS
After installing IIS on my dev server, I am unable to access the database controls for my various databases. Any information on configuring IIS to allow access to my OEM DB Controls?

Thanks.Thank you Biss ,
It is their and also it is member of ora_dba. so it should have administrator rights.
The following are the exact lines from db_instance.pl at which I get error.

my $dir = tempdir( CLEANUP => 1);
(my $fh, my $filename) = tempfile( DIR => $dir );
if($NT)
$TEMP = "C:\\TEMP";
&mkDir($TEMP);
$mytime = time();
$filename = "$TEMP\\dbinstance.$mytime";
open(SQL_WRITER, "|$ENV{ORACLE_HOME}/bin/sqlplus /nolog >$filename")
|| die "Can not open pipe for DB_STATUS";
print SQL_WRITER "whenever sqlerror exit sql.sqlcode\n";

How do I configure OEM Database Control 10g
Hi Gurus,
I have Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1) on Windows XP installed. How do I configure Database Control 10g??
Any help is appreciated
Thanks !!!Use the enterprise manager configuration assistent (emca)
<ORACLE_HOME>\bin\emca
with emca -h you get some help -
Ran the upgrade on Monday. Not a grid. Single instance.
It failed and we were forced to roll back using an OS backup...
The database upgrade assistant failed with an error that it 'could not complete the Enterprise Manager configuration with the following error ' Error starting the database control refer to the log file at ..emConfig.log.
The log is large (102k)
In looking at the log, other than several entries stating:No value was set for the parameter ORACLE_HOSTNAME, the first thing of note is 'invalid node list' followed by two java exceptions. The log shows the successful deletion of the existing service OracleDBConsole
and the error of not able to read ..staticports.ini file (it does not exist)
The next error (futher down the log) is an exit value of 1 when java is executing rt.jar to 'update home'
eventually resulting in another java stack trace.
Is this enough information to help with ideas, or do I need to post the entire log file?Oct 12, 2009 10:14:26 AM oracle.sysman.emcp.EMConfig perform

Configuring EM Database Control when database is running on different IP
OS Solaris
DB Oracle 10.2.0.2
The have the following situation:
We have a veritas active/passive cluster. This is not RAC. Server name is abc. But the database is running on VIP xyz. How do I configure database control to run on vip xyz. whenever I run emca -config dbconsole db, it always sees the server name as abc.
I also tried emca -config dbconsole db -HOST xyz but finally it always shows the hostname as abc.
I was able to get EM to see the targets (database, listener) properly on the vip xyz by manually editing the targets.xml file. So now the situation is, on the home page it shows that the datbaase is up and the listener is up, but it complains that it cannot connect to the database.
I really appreciate any help in this.
-NagsDBConsole installs requiring different hostnames (virtual) than the physical hostname, simply set ORACLE_HOSTNAME variable to the new virtual hostname and run emca.
in detail please read this note , it might help you
Configure DB Control 10.2 for use in Active/Passive High Availability Environments
Overview and Requirements:
In order for the DB Control to service a database instance after failing over to a different host in the cluster, the following conditions must be met:
1. Install on a shared disk/volume which holds the binaries, the configuration and the runtime data (including the database). Installations on non-shared devices are not supported.
2. Configuration data and metadata must also failover to the surviving node
3. Inventory location must failover to the surviving node
4. Software owner and timezone parameters must be the same on all cluster member nodes that will host this database
Installation and Configuration:
• In order to override the physical hostname of the cluster member with a virtual hostname, you must use the parameter ORACLE_HOSTNAME to configure DBConsole
• For inventory pointer, software must be installed using the commandline parameter ‘-invPtrLoc’ to point to the shared inventory location file, which includes the path to the shared inventory location.
• The database software, the configuration of the database and DB Control is done on a shared volume.
Note: The use of OCFS V1 to install shared Oracle binaries is currently not supported.
If you are using an NFS mounted volume for the installation, please ensure that you specify rsize and wsize in your mount command to prevent running into I/O issues.
See Metalink Note <279393.1>
Example:
lxdb.acme.com:/u01/app/share1 /u01/app/share1 nfs rw,bg,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,hard,nointr,tcp,noac,vers=3,timeo=600 0 0
A. Setup the alias for the virtual hostname/virtual IP address
You can do this by either allowing the clusterware to set it up, or manually before installation and startup of Oracle services. This virtual hostname must be static and resolveable consistently on the network: All nodes participating in the setup must resolve the virtual IP address to the same hostname. Standard TCP tools like nslookup and traceroute can be used to verify.
B. Setup shared storage
This can be storage managed by the clusterware that is in use or, you can use any shared file system (FS) volume as long as it is not an unsupported type, such as OCFS V1. The most common shared FS is NFS.
C. Setup the environment:
Some OS versions require specific OS patches to be applied prior to installing 10gR2. The user installing and using the 10gR2 software must also have sufficient kernel resources available. Refer to the installation guide for more details.
Before you launch the installer, certain environment variables need to be verified. Each of these variables must be set identical for the account installing the software on ALL machines participating in the cluster:
• OS variable TZ
Timezone setting. Recommended to unset this prior to the installation
• PERL variables
Variables like PERL5LIB should be unset to prevent the install (OUI) and DB Control to pick up the wrong set of PERL libraries
• Paths used for dynamic libraries
Based on the OS, the variables can be LD_LIBRARY_PATH, LIBPATH, SHLIB_PATH or DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH. These variables should ONLY point to directories, which will be visible and usable on each node of the cluster.
D. Ensure that oracle user name, ID and group name and ID are in sync on all cluster members
The user and group of the software owner should be defined identically on all nodes of the cluster. This can be verified using the ‘id’ command:
$ id -a
uid=1234(oracle) gid=5678(dba) groups=5678(dba)
E. Ensure that inventory files are on the shared storage
1. Create your new ORACLE_HOME directory.
2. Create the Oracle Inventory directory under the new oracle home
cd <shared oracle home>
mkdir oraInventory
3. Create the oraInst.loc file. This file contains the Inventory directory path information needed by the Universal Installer.
a. vi oraInst.loc
b. Enter the path information to the Oracle Inventory directory, and specify the group of the software owner as the dba user:
Example:
inventory_loc=/app/oracle/product/10.2/oraInventory
inst_group=dba
F. Start the installer:
You need to point to the inventory location file oraInst.loc (under the ORACLE_BASE in this case), as well as specifying the hostname of the virtual group. Debug parameter is optional.
runInstaller -invPtrLoc /app/oracle/share1/oraInst.loc ORACLE_HOSTNAME=lxdb.acme.com –debug
G. Update the SPFILE and tnsnames.ora file
Add an listener entry to the spfile file that points to an entry in the tnsnames file calling the virtual IP directly. As an example, set a tnsnames.ora entry that points to the virtual host name:
LISTENER_DBC =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lxdb.acme.com)(PORT = 1521))
Then update the spfile parameter local_listener to point to the new tnsnames.ora entry:
SQL> alter system set local_listener='LISTENER_DBC';
SQL> show parameter local
NAME TYPE VALUE
local_listener string LISTENER_DBC
H. Startup of services:
Ensure that you start your services in the proper order:
- establish IP address on the active node
- start the TNS listener
- start the database
- start dbconsole
- test functionality
In case of failure…
- Establish IP on failover box
- start TNS listener lsnrctl start
- start the database dbstart
- start dbconsole emctl start dbconsole
- test functionality
If you want to manually stop or shutdown a service:
Stop the application
Stop DB Control emctl stop dbconsole
Stop TNS listener lsnrctl stop
Stop DB dbshut

OEM Database Control 10.2.0.1 -- Pages render funny
I have the standalone version installed from a 10gR2 EE custom (to get Windows stuff) install (new, not an upgrade) on my home Win XP SP1 machine.
I start the console with http://<host>:1158/em in Firefox 1.5.0.2. It works OK about 50% of the time. The other 50%, a page will render like this:

It's not a big deal because it's not at work, but it bugs me. If anyone knows exactly why this is happening, I'd sure appreciate their help. BTW I have ZoneAlarm and Norton AntiVirus running and I'm behind a DSL router. And I'm not an expert on any of this.
Something maybe ..... the nnn.n.n.n:nnnn above is the address of my loopback adapter.Yes, you must download and install the 10.2.0.1 version and then patch it up to the 10.2.0.4 version.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gem/install/index.html
The above link shows you the install routine when using a new database, the steps for the existing database are only slightly different, all you need are the connection details for that existing database and you should be ok.
As for taking full backups of the Grid Control repository, I know many choose not to, space is always a big concern, but this depends on how critical your repository is to you. If you need it for the auditors, well then I'd suggest acquiring some more hard disks to up your space. -
OEM - Database Control - Logging me out constantly
My problem lie when viewing any of the pages within the DBcontrol. Once logged in I can browse but on most occasions I change to a tab or any of the links it logs me out and brings me back to the log in screen where I start again. Which is becoming quite annoying.
Has anyone else experienced this before and if so what was the cause of the problem.
Thanks to all that reply.
Version Information:-
Dbcontrol - 10.2.0.3
Database - 10.2.0.3
Agent - 10.2.0.3
Platform - Linux x86That is then definitely strange.
In the classroom environment, our standard image to teach Oracle 10gR2 and 11gR1/R2 now is based on OEL 5u2. Gets reinstalled from image every week, and we are about to switch to kickstart. No issues - my instructor system has been running for quite a long time on 5u2.
When I set that up, I made sure I included the oracle-validated rpm.
Raw or VM? If VM, which version VM and which host?

Do I need to reconfigure my Time Capsule when I get a new modem?
I have recently upgraded to AT&T Uverse internet; since then I have had experienced frequent slow speeds from my Time Capsule router. I have disconnected the router built into the AT&T modem, and AT&T has come out several times to ensure that the issue is not with the phone line nor the modem itself--when we connect the modem to the computer via and Ethernet cable, everthing works fine.
My question is, is there some sort of reconfiguration process I need to go through to make the Time Capsule router work faster with the AT&T Uverse modem?No problem.
You can factory reset from the airport utility. Just select the TC in the airport utility.. it must be highlighted to work.. go to the top menu area and use Restore Default Settings.
Or do it manually.. I prefer this method.
The Factory Reset TC Gen1-4. Or AE Gen1-5
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on.. all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec.
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Factory reset TC Gen 5 or AE Gen 6
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort AE or TC still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AE/TC .. hold in reset and power the TC/AE back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
