Do I need to render before Compressor?

Sorry about this newbie question. After coming back from Color, my timeline has the red lines on top of the clips. Do I need to render before to straight export via Compressor ? Or is Compressor sort of does the render? thx.

It makes no difference whether you render or not because FCP hands over the raw frames to Compressor. Compressor ignores all FCP render files.

  • Do I need to render before exporting?

I have just put together a small project with three sequences in it. Nothing crazy, renders in about an hour on a PB G4/1Ghz. My question though — do I need to render before exporting to a Quicktime movie? Or will it render automatically before exporting?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

On a PB/G4, an hour isn't that bad. I started editing on Sawtooth G4s, and had render times of 2-3 hours for not much video. Of course, it all depends on titles, layers, effects, etc.
Well, if you think about it, exporting a movie to Quicktime IS rendering. I don't think FCP is going to stick a blue "Unrendered" box in, or encode at Dynamic RT quality when making a movie file.

  • Do I need to render before export?

Coming from the old video software, this was the case. However, now I have background rendering turned off. Do I need to manually render before I export the video, in order to get the color grades, transitions, etc? Or does export automatically render it for me?

    Never thought about that....
OK, for 'real time'-playback of such a scene
made of six green screens stapled together, you have to render.
… if you're using just one extHDD, connected via usb3... (we're on a small budget)
For scenes with less demand of computation power, like this…
    no rendering needed.....
(pics from one of our school projects…)
but habitual rendering...c'mon, fellas, seriously ??

  • Do I need to render before saving?

    Hi,
Do I need to render the video before the final render in the output format I want?
As I add titles and effects, I'm currently rendering the video - primarily because it's easier for me to work on the project if I can watch smoother video. At the end, I go to the share tab and render the project in the final format that I want e.g. mpg, etc.
I'm trying to see if I can speed up my workflow by skipping the intermediate renders before the final one. Or do I still need to keep rendering to prepare the footage for the final render?
    Thanks,
    Sam

No you don't. You don't really even have to render while you are working on the project.
Note that when you render only the area under Work Area Bar is rendered so, if you need to render an area because you want a better view of a transition or effect, you can set the Work Area Bar to cover only that area of your timeline, and then PRE will render only that area.

  • Error exporting... Says I need to render but I already have!

When I go to export my project as an MPEG 2, red bars appear over the timeline as if I haven't rendered and I get a message telling me that I need to render before exporting. I have rendered the project so I have no idea what the problem is. It will let me export the project as a Qucktime movie.
    Thanks for your help!

for export to MPEG2 you need to render everything ... even th ebits that fcp can playback in full res without rendering
go to you sequence render menu and make sure that even "Full" has a checkmark , then render again.
    this time it should work

  • CS4 - Does one need to Premiere render before Encore transcode?

    Production Suite CS4
Question: Does one need to Premiere render before Encore transcode?
I have an Encore asset which is dynamically linked to a Premiere sequence. Do I need to render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding it in Encore i.e. is Premiere rendering necessary? Thanks in advance.

Adobe Encore technical support told me that Encore will not automatically render the Premiere sequence. You must manually render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding in Encore.

  • Still need to render after using Compressor 4...

    Hi there.
Having a small problem figuring out why I still need to render a video clip after using Compresor 4.
I am able to add the fiile to Compressor 4 successfully.
I select "Apple ProRes-422" as my codec
I chose a destination and click submit.
It takes the file - and does its thing and places it in the correct folder.
When I go to Final Cut Express (4.0.1)- and "Import" the file - I see the long red line at the top and it says my clip is unrendered...
It seemed so straight forward when I looked at the YouTube videos...
    I am currently on Lion...
    Thanks,
    SparkyCanada

    That would explain it...
    Thanks!

  • Needing to render PAL-DV in FCP????

    Hi,
I had my Sony PC109 stolen and bought a Sony HC26 to replace it temporarily.
Have started to import from it though in FCP and even though both capture settings and sequence settings are DV-PAL 48 KHz, I still have to render straight, unaltered video with effects or anything.
I checked on the camera to make sure it wasn't recording in wide 9:16 mode or anything and it is in standard 4:3.
Basically, whenever I put anything in the timeline, it has a big red line above it indicating I need to render the video. (the audio is fine)
If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Crazy

Go to the FINAL CUT PRO Menu and choose EASY SETUP. Choose the DV/PAL option.
Delete Sequence 1. Or any other sequence you have in the Browser. These will have the OLD settings...the ones in place BEFORE you chose the proper Easy Setup.
Create a new sequence. This sequence will have the new settings and should work just fine with your DV/PAL footage.

  • Do I need to render after finished editing in FCE?

I'm finishing my very first FCEHD3.5 project (the whole audio & video editing part). DO I HAVE TO RENDER ANYTHING befor recording to the camera, using the method that you described?
(I used some photos in my project and they look "funny" while played from the timeline and watched in the canvas; photos are funny in terms of flickering, moving pixels along edges of objects, etc. - would any rendering help with this?).
And, in general - what about the rendering? -(this is my 1st project, so I have no experience there)Do I need to render anything? Or should I just print to camera, and find a way to burn the project in iDVD..?
    MacBook Pro 17 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2GB RAM, 100GB7200HD, Super Drive, FCEHD3.5, PanasonicPVGS500, G-Raid ExtHD320GB

The easiest way to do this is, first make sure you don't have any clips at all selected in the timeline, then just do the Render All > Video and the Render Only > Mixdown. FCE will take care of things from there.
The length of time it takes to render the video depends on a whole lot of factors ranging from what kinds of effects/generators you used in your clips, how many there are, how long they are, whether or not any are already rendered, etc. plus all the hardware specs/capabilites of your Mac ... all of which makes it really hard to estimate how much time it will take.
Mixdown audio takes all your audio tracks and builds an 'audio render' file that contains 1 stereo pair resulting from all your audio tracks. It goes a lot faster than rendering video does ... and btw helps reduce/eliminate problems with dropped frames.
Your MacBookPro has great specs, you should find this goes pretty well, but I still really can't estimate your render time. Take a look at your timeline - over how much of it does the red 'needs rendering' indicator line show? That would give you some indication - at least short vs. long.
    Good luck!

  • Do I need to Render every time I make a to the audio or video?

Today is the first time I have seriously considered using Final Cut Pro. This software was purchased for me (without my knowing) by the company I am working for to be used for simple editing and exporting. Recently I have been using iMovie and have been creating adequate videos, but figured it is time to upgrade to a "pro" software. That has been a big mistake.
It seems like every time I make a change to the subclip in the timeline I need to Render the movie; if not, additions like transitions, audio filters, or simple changes are unplayable. For instance, when I adjust an audio filter (hum remover, for example) and try to preview the movie in the canvas, all I see is video accompanied by an annoying beeping sounding. Once I render the movie, I can I finally hear the expected audio.
I am convinced I am doing something wrong, but I haven't noticed my mistakes in the help sections. Do I need to Render the audio/video every time I want to make a change and preview said change? Can someone point me in the right direction?

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeline
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • Need to render my song all the time, why?

  • ProRes clips need to render in FCP X

I'm shooting with a Canon, which outputs .mts files but I convert them to 4:2:2 HQ ProRes before importing into FCP X. However, when I drop them into the timeline they still take time to render. The timeline specs were alread set by the first clip I dropped in -- same type of file -- 1080p HD, 1920x1080, 23.98.  Seems like they shouldn't need to render. Anybody have a tip on this?

I'm a DP and DIT. In the professional world we would never even think of importing and transcoding directly from the cards for several reasons:
    1. The time it takes to turn around the media and get it back to camera crew.
    2. Possibility of corruption in transcode.
    3. Original raw media must exist on at least three separate hard drives. The insurance company usually requires this to even bond the film.
    4. No logging such as is provided by ShotPut Pro or Double Data. Logging is absolutely essential for data management.
    5. Changing file names by adding prefix or suffix as is provided for in ShotPut Pro, Double Data and other data management software. Without that you can get duplicate file names which is a real mess — I'm shooting with multiple cameras.

  • Strange Need to Render

I just created a 2-camera HDV multiclip sequence and have edited a clip into the timeline. I now get the dreaded red line indicating the need to render. I checked my clip and sequence settings against my Easy Setup settings, and everything is identical. Any clues why I'm getting the red line?
    Thanks.
    Paul S.

make sure that the actual sequence you are setting your multiclip is HDV. I'm saying this because it happend to me before. I opened a new project, then went to easy setup, didnt realize that the first sequence when the new project was opened wasn't HDV.
    1. Easy Setup: Make sure its in the right setting
    2. Make new sequence
    3. drop in clip

Can I send an iPhoto book to my parents as a PDF? I need their input before I order the ibook.

You can create a PDF preview of your book, see this link:

The PDF will be too large to email to your parents - copy it to a USB stick or burn it as CD or DVD and send it as a letter.  Or upload it to a server for download, your Dropbox, etc.

  • TS4009 My iCloud storage is full and I need to delete some stuff.  Can anyone tell me what is important to keep and what not?  I have done all I can but it still says I need to delete before I can back up on iCloud.

My iCloud storage is full and I need to delete some stuff.  Can anyone tell me what is important to keep and what not?  I'm just not sure what I really should back up each night and what doesn't really matter.  I know my photo's should back up, but other than that, I'm not really sure.
I have taken some pics off and videos and appt, but it still says I need to delete before I can back up on iCloud.  I'm starting to wonder if its a glitch with my personal phone.  Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

Only you can decide what's critical to back up.  One option is to import your photos and videos to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then either delete them from your phone or exclude the camera roll from your backup in settings.
You might try going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll), then look at the size of your next backup.  If it doesn't go down significantly, something else is wrong.
