Do I need to replace my battery or is this a mavericks thing?  (Service Battery)

I just updated my operation system a few days ago to Mavericks and I noticed that I'm getting a "service battery" warning. Possibly a coincidence but I'm not sure how many cycles my battery can take.
According to Coconut Battery, I've gone through 307 cycles and my battery's capacity is at 75%.
I've read that a lot of people are seeing this since updating to Mavericks so my question is:
Is this a flaw and do I have some more time left on my battery or is Mavericks that much better at telling you when your battery needs replacing?

Run it down to about 20% and recharge, see if it still says to service.  If so, take it to Apple store genius bar and have the techs evaluate the battery.

The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery".  Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't want to spend 130 dollars on something I'm going to have to replace in less than a year (which is what normally I been reading)  I do design work and I take my mac everywhere.  Having to always look for a plug or having to be constantly plugged in doesn't sound ideal to me.  Please help me. what should I do???

Why does it matter if it a scam????? I'll let you figure that out by yourself.  If I'm going to replace it, why should I be contempt with a battery that I have to replace within months (as stated by some people in the comments). The issue here is not if I should or not replace it OBVIOUSLY I'm going to have to before it starts going crazy.  The underlying issue is why is the replacement battery for a lack of better words " a bit crap."  It comes with a 3 month guarantee?? Is that a joke?!??!?! Some people complained it malfunction after only 8- 9 months? I'm sorry but as an Apple fan I think it's absolutely rubbish. I know there is no magic cure I'm just hoping someone shines the light on how crappy this replacement is.

  • Service battery notice!

I have the first Intel based Macbook (2006) white.  Battery model: DP ASMB016.  Under System profile the charge remaining is 3620.  Full charge capacity is 3769 and the cycle count is 240.  This is my second battery in 5 years.  The battery icon says 96% when plugged in not 100% but I'm using the power cord since it's not good to run it with the notice. Currently, using battery, the charge drops pretty quickly.  When I ran it off the battery right before the warning the charge % dropped more than usual. The pull down box says service battery, but it appears to hold a charge but I don't see where it says battery is running at (blank) capacity.  Question is does anyone know what could be wrong with the battery, and do I need to replace it with a new one? When I replaced the initial factory battery after only just over 2 years it wouldn't turn on, so I knew it needed replacing and before going out I never received the service battery notice like this time.

If the battery life is okay but the software says service required, then ignore it, sometimes the algorithms can go wrong. Especially when the battery has only gone through 240 cycles. Does the area of the battery under the mac get very hot when the mac is on charge? if so, then that may be causing severe damage to your battery, heat + batteries is a very damaging formula, hope I helped a little, good luck :)

  • Service Battery Problem: MBP 13-inch Early 2011

Until last week my Macbook's Battery was giving around 5 and half hours on full charge.
Suddenly The Service Battery warning started to apper. and It started taking around 3 and half hours to fully charge without using it. And even 100% battery now gives less than 3 hours for use.
My battery has 553 Cycles; and Health goes up and down from 63% to 70%.
    Its been 21 months I have been using it!;
Please suggest me; Is there any way I can solve the problem.

The best solution is to replace the battery.  The degradation of battery life is a good indicator that the ultimate demise of the battery is near.  That is what service battery' means.  Yews, you have not had the 1000 cycles that is advertised, but some batteries exceed it and others do not.  Yours is in the latter category.
    Ciao.

  • My iPad mini won't allow me to update any apps that need it. How do I fix this?

My iPad mini will not allow my to update apps when needed. Can you help me correct this?

    Couple things to try:
check restrictions settings>General>restrictions. Make sure installing apps is not restricted, also verify age restrictions are not set below what the app shows
reset iPad: hold home and power buttons down simultaneously for 15-20 seconds until the apple logo appears, try updating again.
if still fails, you could try restarting your router but that is a long shot.

  • How can I "service battery"

I have a 15" mid 2009 MacBook Pro. An alert is showing that my battery condition is a problem and states: 'Service Battery'.
I haven't noticed masive performance drop... Yes, as you see below, it has a high Cycle count.
How can I service the battery (as opposed to sending it to an Apple dealer, which is likely to be at great expense and time).
    Thanks for your help.

  • My iphone 4s is over 2 years old and I need to replace the battery. How much will this cost at an Apple store?

I have an iphone 4s that is  over 2 years old. The phone's battery is no longer able to hold a  charge for an acceptable length of time.  Assuming I need to replace the battery, how much will this cost at an Apple store?

Basically, I'm new to Apple, despite using them before, but I've never actually owned my own.
Since buying this phone off a colleague at work, I seem to be having problems with it. First, I noticed how rubbish the battery life is, then my charger almost went up in flames and thirdly my camera lense is scratched beyond belief.
I know the phone isn't within warranty, although I was lead to believe it was before and during buying it, so basically I'm extremely disappointed with the general make up of iPhone's considering they cost such a **** of a lot of money, you'd think they'd be built to last.
Back to my main point, how much would it cost for a new battery? Or a new camera lense if anyone can help me with that? (I know that the back of the phone was refurbished just before my buying it, so literally just the camera lense)
    Thanks!
So basically it sounds like you bought an abused used iPhone and somehow that makes the phone subpar because dispite the abuse it should still last forever and look like new? Batteries don't last forever, even under ideal conditions, so your expectatoins are unrealistic. Take it in and have an estimate done.

  • I don't have phone, but the TV says I need to replace battery backup for phone?!?!?!

    Hello,
For three years, we've had Verizon Fios Internet and TV.  We've never had a phone.
Today, the contraption Verizon plugged in the wall (sadly, I'm not really sure what it is, and had forgotten it existed until today as it's tucked behind some furniture) started beeping and the replace battery indicator light is on.  Furthermore, when I turn on TV, I am greeted with this message:
    My questions are:
    (1) If I don't have phone service, why would I even have a battery backup (much less need to replace it) to allow phone service during power outages?
    (2) Since I have only internet and TV, can I safely go without replacing this battery?
    (3) If the answer to #2 is yes, then how do I get the thing in the wall to stop beeping every 30 minutes?
Thank you in advance to any responses.

You can unplug the battery in your optical network terminal (ONT) and the message needing to replace the battery will go away.  Verizon customer service did confirm the battery is only for phone service when power is off.
I was only able to find 3 links on the alarm / battery backup.  It looks like they never thought about people who did not want the phone feature and to silence the beeping with the battery removed?
I don't know how frequently my unit beeps, but I don't normally hear it because it is in my garage.  I don't know if it has a pattern to when it beeps; but when I'm in the garage, I sometimes hear a single loud beep for about 1 second.
I imagine the battery must enable the laser to function when the power is off besides supply power to the copper phone lines in your house for a line powered phone.  I would assume then that if one had a UPS to power the computer and router and a good battery in the BBU; then one could have an internet when the power is off too?  Verizon user manuals don't mention this, so it might not work?

  • Do I need to replace my battery? Or how do I fix this solution?

My iPod 4th generation shows that it is charging when I plug it in. When I unplug from full charge, and I use it. 5 minutes later, or even less, it shows that it goes down to 20% Also, sometimes when I plug in my iPod, it shows that it is charging, then all of a sudden it goes down to red charge (20% charge). Do I need to replace my battery because it is going bad? Or how do I fix this solution?

    - See:

    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Maybe only a bad battery or maybe somethng else

I have 2010 macbook white 13 inch and need a replacement battery - where can i find the specs needed for the replacement?

The model 6,1 Late 2009 and the model 7,1 Mid 2010 use an A1331 battery. You can replace it yourself or have Apple do it for you for $129. If you need it quickly make sure you order it from a U. S. seller. Orders from China can take two or three weeks.

Here's installation instructions. You'll need a Tri Wing Y1 screwdriver in addition to the usual #00 Phillips screwdriver.

  • How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

There are a few ways (none of which are covered in the above link). On more recent OS X versions, when you click the battery icon in the menu bar you may see a "Service Battery" or "Replace Now" message. If you aren't seeing that, the system probably thinks the battery is fine.
Also, in your System Information utility, there is a Power section that provides Health information for the battery, with a Condition status and Cycle Count. If the Condition is Normal and your battery is under 300 cycles (for removable batteries) or 1000 cycles (for non-removable batteries) it is not time to replace it yet.
But of course, the other time to replace it is if you don't think you're getting the runtime you want out of it.
If none of those is a problem, don't worry about it.
