Do I need to run fsck manually on Clustered disks?

I am just wondering if fsck is run automatically on Clustered monitored disks, once the resource is brought on line after a crash?
Or if not what steps should be taken to make this happen automatically?

what do you mean by clustered disks? What file system is it running ufs? A fsck checks the file system not the hard disks so it is always good to check it no matter where it resides, however some NAS will have thier own file system checking commands so its important to establish where the disks are and what fs is on them.

  • [SOLVED] /dev/mapper/ dm : UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY

I'm trying to boot my system from multiple machines using only a USB. I have a PC & MacBook Pro. When I have built & configued my system correctly from my MacBook Pro, I have tried to boot it from PC as well to make sure the boot process has no errors.
Booting from MacBook Pro is completely fine (1st boot). After that, I have tried to boot from a PC and the boot process is also fine (2nd). However, when I went back to MacBook Pro to boot my system again (3rd boot), I get an error:
    systemd-fsck: /dev/mapper/<dm_name>: Superblock last mount time (Tue Dec 3 15:25:41 2013,
    systemd-fsck: now = Sat Jan 19 18:29:54 2013).
systemd-fsck: /dev/mapper/<dm_name>: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
    systemd-fsck: (i.e., without -a or -p options)
I did run fsck and it says:
    fsck from util-linux 2.24
    e2fsck 1.42.8 (20-Jun-2013)
    /dev/mapper/<dm_name> is mounted.
    e2fsck: Cannot continue, aborting.
However, when I just run reboot, the error has disappeared but everytime I switch to PC and then go back to MacBook Pro, I get that error and it disappear after I reboot.
Can anyone explain to me why I get that error? is the problem related to time configuration? how to configure it so that it wont get that error again.
    I appreciate your help :)

Yes, it's related to time config. Apparently, the clock on your PC is correct but the clock on your Mac is very incorrect (Jan 2013). You need to synchronize the clocks.

  • Need to run fsck on UCS Central VM -- how?

We had a storage disruption event recently that appears to have flipped the root volume on our UCS Central VM to read-only. After rebooting the VM, I get an error message about needing to run a manual fsck due to filesystem errors on /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 (see attached screenshot), and I get dropped into a shell prompting for the root password. I can't seem to find any root credentials in the UCS documentation. Is there a procedure for repairing the filesystem and repairing the VM?

    Brad,
You'll need to open a TAC case.  We don't provide root/shell access to the VM externally.

  • Need to run disk utility on iMac G4 with OSX 10.3.9/Hardware disk 10.2.7

I have an iMac G4 currently running with OS X 10.3.9, which was installed on it after it crashed a few years ago. I don't have any retail disks that match OS X 10.3.9, but I have the original manufacturer's hardware disk that came with the computer, which contains Mac OS version 10.2.7.
My question: In order to run disk utility and repair errors on this computer, do I need to purchase a retail version of the OS X 10.3 disk, or is there some way to run disk utility without the proper OSX disk? I read about checking for possible file system issues using fsck with OS X 10.3 or earlier—is fsck a viable option for me?
My computer is not having any substantial problems, but I want to avoid any by running Disk Utility now ...
Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

    Welcome To  Discussions poptartsheart!
"...OS X 10.3.9, which was installed on it..."
How was it installed, and by whom?
You should have been provided a set of the Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, at that time.
"I read about checking for possible file system issues using fsck with OS X 10.3 or earlier—is fsck a viable option for me?"
You can run fsck, as instructed in this KB Article Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck, but you really need to have a set of the Panther 10.3.x Full Retail discs.
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, can be purchased, sometimes inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.

  • Why do I need to run report RV80HGENu00A0to activate routine in QAS?

    Hi SD gurus,
Every time I executed VL02N then click on post button I get an abap dump "CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_FORM". I've learned that i have to run report RV80HGEN to activate the routine in QAS. My question is why do I have to run this report that I never ran in DEV? If you have SAP Notes it will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,
    Joel

    Hi Joel,
The reply is already given for this.
In development you dont need to run this because, when the program is created, the technical tables are automatically generated for usage. However when you  move this to the target system, you manually have to execute the program to activate these table entries for the routine.
You can also include this program in the transport where the routine is saved. In this case, when the routine moves to the target system, the program automatically runs and the routine will be generated in the target system.

  • Fonts needed to run OS 10.9

I am having font conflicts using InDesign CS 5. I used Font Book to turn off nearly everything, but then I found that many fonts still resided in the Fonts folder in my Library. (I suspect that they were dropped onto the folder when some apps did not read them.)
Now, I want to manually remove all of the fonts that are not needed for running the system. Where can I find a list of these fonts?

Thanks Kappy and kahjot....I did find it   I'll give it a try

  • MBP only runs if I start in single user mode and run fsck. WHY!

I am having trouble with my MBP. If I don't start in single user mode and run fsck -fy twice, I can't click on anything with my trackpad. I can't even log in. I've tried resetting pram/nvram, disk permission repair too but once i reboot... nada. I can't do anything in recovery mode, I can move around with arrows and tab but can't select anything. Safe mode hangs at about 20% and doesn't budge (left it for an hour, nothing). If I run fsck -fy it works but as soon as I reboot/ logout i'm back to square one again. Anyone know what causes this to happen? It just started tonight. I have a 2012 15" with Mountain Lion.

The boot drive is failing, or you have some other hardware fault.
Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Localconfig.bat needs to run when start ASM

    Hi All,
I am using ORACLE 10g R2 (10.2.0.4). I want to use ASM on Windows?
I have two query for that:
1- can I use ASM for windows? or it benificial only for Linux os?
2- why I need to run "localconfig.bat" file for standalone db? this batch file is creating "OCR" keay and some CSS service. According to my knowledge this OCR and CSS is a part of Cluster.
Can any one guide me on this topic?
    Thanks...

    hi
in regard to 1st Q - ASM is the recommended storage for Oracle on all platforms, especially when DB is in ARCHIVELOG (RMAN benefits plus listed below).
However for some DB's like e.g. "calculating only" ones, the Windows NTFS is a good choice (fast).
    Quote:
ASM is one the best things that has happened to Oracle since a long time and is quickly maturing into the de facto standard for Oracle
database storage. It is the most cost-effective automated database storage solution for Oracle and Grid computing
as it eliminates the need to perform guesswork when implementing and tuning database storage, eliminates the need for costly LVMs,
eliminates the need to perform manual IO rebalancing, eliminates unnecessary downtime with storage reorganization
    and vastly improves DBA’s productivity.
It allows the company’s storage to be most effectively used and consolidated leveraging Oracle’s cluster technology.
It is the present and future.

  • We need to run wb_workspace_management.set_workspace procedure each time

    Hi
We appear to need to run wb_workspace_management.set_workspace procedure each time in a new session before running OWB Mappings.
The above procedure is run with values REP_ADMIN/REP_ADMIN and then we are able to successfully run the mappings. However, on opening a new session, if this procedure is not run, the execution of mappings fails. However the values REP_ADMIN/REP_ADMIN are already present in the view all_iv_workspaces in owbsys schema.
Should this procedure be run as the first thing before starting execution of the mappings or is there some other issue?
If the stored procedure is not run this message is displayed.
ORA-20013: The workspace has not been set. Please call wb_workspace_management.set_workspace procedure to set workspace first.
    ORA-06512: at “OWBSYS.WB_WORKSPACE_MANAGEMENT”, line 1356
    ORA-06512: at “OWBSYS.WB_WORKSPACE_MANAGEMENT”, line …
Any help with diagnosing this issue is greatly appreciated.

Should this procedure be run as the first thing before starting execution of the mappings or is there some other issue?Yes, you need to execute set_workspace procedure for each new opened database session before running mapping or selecting data from OWB public view.
It is OWB requirements starting from 11g R1 OWB release and there are no any workarounds.
But maybe you can include call to set_workspace in OnLogon database trigger (I don't done it and cannot confirm that this works) if you want to avoid manual execution of set_workspace ...

    Oleg

  • How to run fsck.vfat for USB-stick during cRIO-9030 boot?

    Hi all,
we have a cRIO-9030 with a USB-stick. Sometimes after power loss the USB-stick filesystem (FAT32) gets corrupted and has to be checked/fixed. How can I configure cRIO LinuxRT to do that?
I've checked /etc/fstab, but it looks that the USB-stick is mounted somewhere else. I run mount - here is the line:
    /dev/sdc1 on /media/sdc1 type vfat (ro,relatime,fmask=0000,dmask=0000,allow_utime=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,quiet,errors=remount-ro)
It would be nice if I can run fsck.vfat /dev/sdc1 every boot or when an error is detected.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nikolai

    Hi NickViz,
My name is Ed form National Instruments Technical Support, I have researched into the topic and found that it is possible to use the 'System Exec.vi' to complete the command during the initialization of your RT application.
You simply need to input your commands as a string just as you would to command prompt/terminal (depending on OS), you can also execute commands via SSH however this is one way communication between the RT application and the command shell.
I have included some links below to articles which describe the methodology as well as give some further explanation into the NI Linux Real-Time OS.

I hope this is helpful and you achieve what it is you need, do note you will need to enable SSH scripting as described in the article on using PuTTY for your Real Time device.

  • Need to run Disk Utility from OSX Disk to fix my hard drive.. help!

I have a newish early 2010 Macbook Pro. The standard 10.6 DVD will NOT boot my computer and yet I need to boot to DVD to use Disk Utility..
I'm nowhere near my restore disk so using that is not an option. Is there anything I can do to boot to "single user" mode and run Disk Utility so it can repair my HD?
    Thanks,
    Ricardo

Without your discs you're really out of luck. The 10.6 SL DVD contains too early a version to boot your computer. You would need a retail disc with a version of SL later than the one that came installed on it. If it came with 10.6.3 or earlier then the latest retail copies of SL should be 10.6.4 and would boot the computer.
Meanwhile if the computer is functional download and install AppleJack - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. Read the documentation then run the utility.
If your computer is not functional then you can try this:
Boot into single-user mode. After startup is completed you will be in command line mode and should see a prompt with a cursor positioned after it. At the prompt enter the following then press RETURN:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
If you receive a message that says "*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***" then re-run the command until you receive a message that says "** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK." If you re-run the command more than seven times and do not get the OK message, then the drive cannot be repaired this way.
If you were successful then enter:
    reboot
and press RETURN to restart the computer.

  • Why i need to run autoconfig?

in cloning, after database rebuild, canging the databaseid, cleaning the nodes, updating fnd_con_reqs is
there any need to run autoconfig...? if so what is the reason..?

AutoConfig is a configuration tool that automates the configuration of an Oracle Applications system. The information required for configuring an Applications system is collected into a repository, called the Applications Context. Whenever you do any change in the configuration (change hostname, port pool, domain name, .. etc), you need to correct the values in the Application Context File and run AutoConfig. By doing this, AutoConfig will generate all the configuration files and update the database profile options with the correct values (instead of doing that manually).
If you need more details about AutoConfig, please refer to:
