Do I need to sync again?
Hello,
I'm new to this whole iphone business. I will be getting a new computer next week. Do I have to sync my phone thru the new computer again?
Also, is it necessary to download quick time player along with itunes? I don't even know the purpose of quick time player. How am I supposed to know when there is a new version of itunes+does it sync my phone automatically,or do I have to connect my phone to my computer again?

Often enough so if the iPhone crashes and you lose all content you won't be tearing your hair out because you hadn't backed it up.

When you launch iTunes it will tell you, but it only checks once a week. There's a choice on the Help menu to check immediately.
When I first downloaded Itunes I believe I also had to take Quick Time Player as another download. Is this really necessary?
Yes, Quicktime is installed along with iTunes, but it isn't a separate download. It is needed to play videos and MP4 files.

I use Office Outlook for mac 2011 to organise my email & calendar. Since updating to OS X Mavericks I have not been able to sync the calendar to my iPhone. What do I need to do to get the calendars syncing again?

Apple told developers they were removing that service over two years ago. The developers that depended upon it should have done something about it.
Why did they remove it? My guess is because it was pretty crappy, was difficult to maintain, and wasn't a good solution for multiple devices that could get the info without tethering to a "base" Mac. -
Here's my problem...The latest version of Quicktime as new as it sounds doesn't support screen recording on a powermac G5 Motorola chip with OS 10.5.8 which is the highest os I can go with that machine. If I can sync the two computers so I can get the application to record from my newer computer then I'm ok. I just don't have the recording application for audio that I'm using to demo for the website on the laptop as it's about 10,000 dollars. So, I have to use the older computer to do the audio presentation and try to get the newer computer synced to it so I can use the new version that works on snow leopard to record a screen shot that will hopefully appear on my laptop instead of the old machine. Hope that makes sense. It's a bit confusing but in a nutshell it's like this:
1. I am a Pro Tools Instructor which is the state of the art application and recording device for audio and movie scoring and I have a new job where I make small snippets of tips using Pro Tools which I'd like to record with quicktime on screen as they happen
2. the best version of Quicktime Pro available for the Power Mac, OS 10.5.8 will not do screen recording on it.
3. I can use the Quicktime application from my newer laptop but I need to sync it to the old machine
4. I'm hoping but I don't know, if I do this, that I can record Pro Tools in action from my new machine buy seeing it on this laptop screen and then recording it with the new quicktime.
5. If I can sync the two computers, I'm hoping this can happen but I can't use my ethernet connection as I have it used to connect to my recording console and can't afford to buy anything new like an ethernet hub yo connect the two so I'm hoping that there's another way to connect them.

I loaded Win 7 on my laptop and hadn't loaded I tunes yet when I updated my phone to IOS 6. It needed to sync and had to factory reset. I have loaded I tunes, logged on yet still can't get my apps or music to load on my phone again? I have added the I tunes back-up to the folder on my newly loaded PC? Any suggestions before I go to the apple store and use the F word.
The same thing happened to my poor sister, and she is panicking because of all of her photos of her "daughter growing up" that will be lost. It seems that this has happened to several people already, and I REALLY hope that Apple figures this out so that it doesn't force all of these people to completely reset their devices. Best of luck to you, and I am bookmarking this and other similar discussions to monitor for other, more desirable solutions.

My iTouch says it needs to sync but my computer won't let it sync because of my passcode.
My iPod stopped working for a bit. I tried it again 4 days later and it works but says I need to sync it (White usb cord pointing an arrow to the itunes sign). I'm trying to sync it but it won't sync becuase it says that there is an error (Itunes cannot work because it is locked with a passcode. You must first enter the passcode on the iPod before you can sync your device). I cannot sync the device becuase it keeps coming up with the screen saying I need to sync it first. I'm at an endless loop. Please Help!!!

Bare with me...I need to explain the situation first.
I purchased an external harddrive and with the help of phone support, I moved some(most) of my itunes stuff to that hard drive. However, when I sync my iphone, it occasionally says something like..."did not sync song because it could not be found".
When I typed in the finder thing at the top right corner of my screen (spotlight?), I searched for itunes media. I found one file but it doesn't show me it's location. So I started looking (I'm still new to this) but I think I found 2 itunes media folders...1 on my imac harddrive and the other in my external harddrive.
After reading some of the online posts regarding downloads, I discovered that it is possible to redownload something you purchased before and NOT be billed again. I know that when I download an app in my iphone and then delete it, if I go to download it again, it tells me i already downloaded it and can download it again for free...so no problems there.
However, my interest is to greatly reduce the amount of "stuff" I have in my external harddrive as well as my internal harddrive. But before going into my external harddrive and deleting all 8 seasons of 24...which is something like 250gigs, I wanted to test the theory. So I looked for something cheap that I downloaded. I would then delete that and then go into the itunes store to redownload it again.
One thing I also want to mention, I read that there should be a purchased tab in my itunes store. Either I don't have it, or don't know where to look. One other thing I read is that it might be not available to me based on where I live. I live in Toronto, Ontario.
Back to what I did. I deleted an episode of Wallace and Gromit (kids show). Then went in itunes to download the same episode. When I checked my account information...it shows that I was just charged for that download...AGAIN! Now granted it was only $2.99...apparently this doesn't need to be the case.
So...going back to the 2 itunes media folders. I checked my system preferences and saw that itunes was set to save downloads here.../users/"my name"/music/itunes/itunesmedia. This folder is on my imac. However, the Wallace and Gromit video was on my external. So when I deleted it, I removed it from my external drive.
So here's what I have done so far...I went into the system preferences and proceeded to change the path to my external harddrive.
Now...before I go and delete something else...am I doing things correctly?
Also...what should the path be in itunes? I suspect it should be to my imac so that anything I download, downloads successfully to my internal harddrive...and then I drag and drop into my external...
I also want to mention that I have a time capsule as well. So basically...I want to keep my imac and time capsule free of as much media as possible...My computer and timecapsule each have 1 TB and I nearly maxed them out...I take alot of home videos with an HD camera...I had no idea how much that would add up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I need help syncing my contacts between Outlook and iPhone using iTunes. I used the knowldge document and set it up to transfer my Outlook contacts to the iphone using itunes.
In contacts on the iphone I only see the email addresses.
Yet in Outlook I have email, snail mail and phone numbers.
I followed the knowledge document from iphone.
I did it once, didn't work so deleted all the contacts from the phone and tried again. Same result. I have a PC using Windows 7 64 bit.You can't access an Exchange account via ActiveSync with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac.
You can access a MM account with Outlook on your PC at work and keep your MM email account server stored mailboxes synced between your PC at work, your iPhone, and the MM "cloud". Not sure about syncing MM contact info and calendar events with Outlook at the same time with an Exchange account.
This will not provide for syncing your Exchange account contact info and calendar events with the Addresss Book and iCal on your Mac because the accounts are separate.
You can access an Exchange account and a MM account at the same time with the iPhone's mail client, and sync contact info and calendar events over the air with both accounts at the same time. You can view combined contact info or separately for each account, and the same for calendar events. -
my iphone is disabled and locked due to my 2 year old pressing too many numbers on my lock screen, but my computer had died and I need to sync it to open it and use my phone. Can I sync it on a new computer, or how can I get it to work and open again as I have text messages and EVERYTHING on my phone I need.
Sorry, just getting back. Since it is a used phone, you may have to contact the prior owner to see if they cleared their Apple ID and passcode. You could not force it into recovery mode? I have an iphone 4 16 gb and got an ipod touch 64 gb because i needed more momory. i need to sycn everything from my iphone 4 to my ipod touch 5th gen i just bought. i just downloaded the latest version of itunes as well. To be honest, the newest version of itunes is hard to use and not as user friendly in my opinion - or i may not know how to use it yet. Anyways, i tried to backup my iphone to itunes and then restore my new ipod from the backup of the iphone 4, but it only backed up phoyos, contacts, and two other things (games was not one of them). Then when I restored my ipod, that is all that downloaded onto the ipod as well. I would really appreciate if someone would be able to provide me with detailed instructions as to how to be able to download everything from my iphone 4 to my ipod touch 5th generation. Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer. Dont forget to check that all the transferred data is in the iTunes media folder so that the iTunes can locate the files. Link to Transcopy software :

It just goes in a circle. This computer not authorized to sync purchased songs to iTouch. Follow directions to authorize computer, seems successful. Sync again and it comes up with the same error message....this computer not authorized to sync iTune purchases to iTouch. I have deauthorized the computer and reauthorized and it didn't make a difference. I updated and restored to factory settings. Still same error message. I have had this problem the last 2 times I have synced. Worked previously. Any ideas??
additional info: I looked into similar complaints. 1 suggested that something is wrong with the files. Delete them off of computer and divice (but they are not on my divice anymore) and then download them again from iTunes purchase history. Went in to check iTunes purchases to make sure the songs would be there if I did follow these steps. Well, NONE of them are in my purchase history.....probably the real problem here. I had an original iPod Nano and then upgraded to my current iTouch.....same computer for both. Could there have been a problem at the point of switching over to the iTouch? That doesn't make sence to me because it is through iTunes and it was the same account for both. I thought I'd be smart and put all the songs in a playlist and burn to a CD and them load them back in that way.....but I was not authorized to burn to a CD....go figure. Any idease would be great!!

When you say a new user ID, are you referring to your Apple ID that you use to make purchases in the iTunes Store, etc? Or are you talking about a new user account on the same Mac?

I downloaded pictures onto my iPhone from computer twice by mistake now when i uncheck/sync then check and sync again i keep getting two lots of pics..how can i get just the one set again? thnx

All photos transferred from your computer are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library regardless if you select a single album or folder of photos to be transferred or multiple albums or folders. The photos on the albums or folders of photos include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. The photos are not duplicated taking up double the storage space. This way you can view the photos in an album or folder of photos only by selecting the album or folder, or all photos in all albums or folders by selecting Photo Library.
Makes more sense when transferring multiple albums or folders of photos which cannot be changed when transferring only a single album or folder of photos.
The same applies with iTunes and music playlists. A song can't be in a playlist unless it is in the main iTunes library. Placing a song in a playlist does not duplicate the song. -
