Do I need to unlock my old iPhone before I get a new one?
My contract with AT&T was up in June and I'm planning to re-sign when I buy iPhone 5. I currently have iPhone 4, which I was planning to give to my niece who currently has one of those pay-as-you-go phones. (She will not be using it with any major carriers.)
My question is do I need to unlock my current iPhone 4 from AT&T before I buy iPhone 5? Or how would it work?
It depends on which network your daughter is on. If it's Orange UK, then no the iPhone 4 will not need unlocking, but if any other network, including 4GEE or T-Mobile, then yes you will first need to get it unlocked.
That can be done by filling in this online form.

I recently had to send my old iPhone back and get a new one. When I did, I simply did a restore and backup with my computer. When I did that, my iMessage between my iPhone and iPad are no longer synced. No matter how many times I went to settings, messages and adjusted it, my iPad and iPhone recognize when I send a message out but not when I received a message from another IMessage user to my iPhone. My iPad simply doesn't get those messages. HELP!!!!
If it's corrupt, generally it would be lost.
However, there is third-party software out there that can retrieve some of the data, those of which however I could not recommend as I have never done so myself.
Also, if the old 4S was running a more recent software version than the current 4S, that may cause the issue however usually iTunes tells you exactly that.
Good luck in retrieving that information. -
My iPhone's touch screen recently quit working, so I have a new one on the way so I tried to back-up my phone on my laptop and it will not connect. I've tried restarting the Apple Mobile Device services and that didn't work. So I completely unistalled iTunes using Apple's instructions and re-installed it and it still will not connect, and I don't use iCloud because the iPhone is my only Apple device. Is there any other way to get things off of my iPhone or is it all pretty much gone?
You need to get iTunes to recognize it. If your iPhone is working, which it is not, then a new screen would help. But you iPhone is broken beyond just a new screen. Now you can see why iCloud or even an iTunes Back Up is so important. iCloud back up is ideal for you, a one Apple device person, it automatically backs up your iPhone so there is a current back up ready to use anytime, especially in emergency like this. When you get your new iPhone, iPad anything use iCloudl it is free and simple.

I got an iphone 5s today and forgot to backup the 4s before setting up my 5s. The last backup on the 4s occured Sept. 18th. The new 5s only has the content that happened before the 18th of course. Is there a way to redo all of this so I can retrieve that content?

I will going to change my simcard in iPhone 4s do I need to delete messages on it before I insert the new one?
The SIM card only holds information from your carrier regarding your account. I'm not sure how someone else is going to get ahold of your old SIM. If you are selling the phone, wipe the phone clean and remove the SIM.

HT201328 How to unlock iphone before you get a new sim card?
I read the article on unlocking the iphone 4, and got permission from the carrier to unlock it. But the instruction assume you already have a 2nd / diferent sim card. How do you unlock the iphone before you get a new sim card? I.e, as in unlocking it before going overseas where you will purchase a country specific sim card?
Thanks,
Bobj.I restored my AT&T locked iPhone without a different sim, & got the congratulations screen. So, do this:
1. Sync your phone to create a current backup.
2. When finished, hit the "Restore" button.
3. When done, you should get the "Congratulations" screen.
4. If you do, restore your phone from the backup you made when you started.
5. Sync your content back to your phone.
That's it. You're done. -
I didn't back up my old iPhone when I got a new one. If I put my SIM card in my old iPhone and backup everything, will it transfer over to my new one?
Just back it up to your computer using iTunes By connecting it to your compute, launching iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Back Up (transfer purchases of prompted). Then restore the iTunes backup to your new phone.

Basically my mum got a new iPhone 5s as an upgrade to her iPhone 4s and she tells me that when she deletes things on her old one it deletes things on her new one. I can't iMessage her without it telling me that it is my step dad as he had the old one for about 3days. I have turned iMessage off on the old one but it is still happening.
I thought the best option would be to delete everything from the old one and reset it to factory settings. However she is hesitant as she thinks everything will be deleted from the new one and the iCloud.
I need to check the iMessage is turned on on the new one but she won't let me near it at the minute.
And suggestions would be greatThere is nothing to delete.
Plug the new iPhone in and sync. -
I want to transfer data from my old Mac book pro to my new one using migrate. The old computer doesn't have Thunderbolt 2 and the new one doesn't have Firewire 800. Does the Thunderbolt to Firewire or the Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter work to connect them and transfer data?
Thank you!Yes, use a Firewire cable and the FW to Tbolt adaptor.

Will Apple or AT&T unlock my old iPhone 3G if I buy new iPhone 3G S?
Here's the story,
I want to buy the New iPhone 3G S (32GB) and currently have an iPhone 3G (16GB). I am going to cancel my ATT contract (and bite the bullet on the termination fee) and buy the new 3G S by entering a new contract. My question is this. Since I'm going to go into a new contract (due to the 3G S), and my old iPhone 3G is going to be off contract and 'mine', since it is no longer officially tied to a contract, will AT&T or Apple unlock it for me so I can either sell it (for others to use on AT&T or possible T-Mobile), or for use it in other parts of the world with a diff sim card? I'm wondering if they'll unlock it like the Hong Kong iPhones that are unlocked.
I don't want to jailbreak it, or use anything. The reason why is because there's always a delay in them releasing updates by about a few days to a few weeks every time there is a new version of iPhone firmware released. I'd rather have it officially done from AT&T or Apple so upgrades could be done immediately and whatever carriers sim card that is being used is good to go. Anyone know if they will do this for me? Or do I need to resort to 'other' unorthodox methods?
Thank you
~AirBruce
<Edited by Host>I already checked. I purchased my iPhone 3G on the launch date back in July '08. I've paid the bill the day my bill was issued, days ahead of its due date, and for some reason, even through it's magic 8-ball wisdom, said I was not eligible for and upgrade. Not till Dec. of this year at least.
So even though my phone is now technically 'mine' and off their contract, they still won't unlock it for me? How come? -
I gave my mom I old iPhone 4s when I got the new one, I didn't wipe it because it was some stuff on there she wanted. I erased my email account from the phone but she still receives my emails. Where do I need to go to stop her from getting them?
Restore the phone as new.
Load the content she wants on there. -
I have been trying to unlock my iphone 4s after we bought a new iphone 5s last night. I sent the request to At&T and receieved the instructions on how to unlock the old phone but I keep getting an error message when I try to do the restore.
You might want to state what the error message says....
