Do I need to update my firmware?

I'm about to be moving to a new MacBook Pro. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that before running Migration Assistant to move any data files that I need to ensure my firmware is current. How do I determine if this is the case?

You do not need to update the firmware on a 17-inch PowerBook prior to running the Migration Assistant, and there are no firmware updates available for your computer.

I purchased a Hyundai Elantra.  My IPod will not load.  Trying my son's Ipod, that one loaded.  The cable and the automobile software do not seem to be the problem.  Someone suggested that I need to update my firmware but I do not know the steps in going about doing this.  Will someone out there list them for me.  Thank you,

    Hello,
If it is a PowerBook G4 with a PC Card slot, you have two possibilities. You could buy a USB card reader for SD, or a PC Card adapter (such as SanDisk's 6-in-1adapter). Please note that you are or may be limited to plain SD (that is, not SDHC) unless otherwise noted. For a USB reader, make sure that it has Mac support. BTW, is an SD card absolutely necessary for the firmware update; is there not a way of updating via cable? If you post back with the camera model, someone may be able to provide additional information.

  • I need to update my firmware, but I don't remember my password?

I need to update my firmware on my airport extreme, but I don't remember my password?

did you not have your keychain remember it for you? this is the best way to save passwords for Mac its under "Utilities-->Keychain access" if it was saved and just not put in your password field you can check in there for the password.
if you need to reset your AP Extreme there is a small hole on the back locate that and follow the instructions here

  • I need Help updating Open Firmware!

I'm struggling to update to MacOSX 10.2 from 9.2 however every time I try to boot up the system with the OSX CD I get the "WSOD"(White Screen of Death) that lets me do nothing. So I try accessing the Open Firmware and I still get a question marked disk icon after booting with CD. I currently have Open Firmware version 2.01f.
Where do I go from there? Can memory be an issue.

    Don Archibald...
"" Open Firmware is not the same as the machine's firmware version, in spite of the similar names. Open Firmware can not be upgraded; firmware can be upgraded. ""
Unless it is me, this rather tells me it is one in the same.
(Sorry for breaking out in a story) ....
When I did my iMac V 1.2 firmware upgrade, my iMac Firmware version was 3.0.f3 then changed to verson 3.0.f2 within the Open Firmware screen.
mrjcd and myself did later discover some later iMac 333 did ship with a 3.0.f3, build date 07/16/99 of which was not like my iMac 333, 3.0.f3, build date 12/02/98.
As a result of Apple System Profiler is not able to report things properly, so using Open Firmware is rather a must in confirming the real need for the firmware update.

  • WRT54GP2A - I need help updating my firmware

About a month ago, i started using a linksys router on my cable internet. Now recently i've been getting random disconnections that last about 15-20 seconds.
My model of my Linksys router is WRT54GP2A.
I checked on the linksys site for updates for my router and this the link:
    http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54GP2A-AT/download
I have version 1. And no updates are shown.
    Help please!

If you're having problem on both wired and wireless connection, you can try to play around with the MTU settings on the router. You can also reflash the firmware of the router and do not forget to reset the router.

  • How to tell if an ATI Radeon Pro Graphics card needs any updates?

I have upgraded the firmware on my G4 Gigabit and re-installed the combo update for OS 10.4.11, and am on an update rampage. I am wondering if I need to update driver/firmware for the video card in this computer. It is a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro. System Profiler lists its ROM Revision as 113-99703-127.
How to tell if this needs an updated driver? Also, the ATI site lists both a download for ATI Displays Panel, and Retail Update. If I need to update, which is it, or both?
I know nothing about graphics cards.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
The ATI Displays panel is a handy tool. Install if you like, with no worry as to adverse effects.
Other than that, Tiger has all the drivers that you need. No firmware update is needed, either.
Should be no need for outside updates for the 9000.

  • My airport extreme is saying that I need to upgrade the firmware to 7.3.1 but I can't find where to get that download.

I bought a new airport extreme on ebay and it works but as soon as I hooked it up it says I need to update the firmware to 7.3.1 and gives me a link to go to but it won't give me an option for that update.  I tried the other updates that it gives an option for but none of them work.  Help!

OK, if your Extreme is an original "round" 802.11b/g model you need AirPort Utility 5.6. The problem with that version is that Mountain Lion will refuse to let you install it. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with using AirPort Utility 5.6 and your older Extreme should work just fine with your new MacBook.
This dilemma is easily solved. You simply need to extract the app from the installer package using a package extractor like Pacifist or unpkg. Pacifist is shareware, unpkg is free.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Download unpkg here: http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
When the AirPort Utility .dmg file finishes downloading, open it to expand and reveal the AirPortUtility56.pkg package installer file.
Directions for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar):
Open Pacifist and from its File menu, navigate to the package and open it.
Click the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility 5.6.app:
Select it and then click Install from Pacifist's toolbar. It will then be installed in your Utilities folder, and you can quit Pacifist.
Mountain Lion will not allow you to delete its existing version of AirPort Utility. Just ignore it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist. Launch AirPort Utility 5.6 and firmware upgrade options for your older Extreme will be available.
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder instead of resorting to the above procedure. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
If you have an older computer with a version of AirPort Utility earlier than 6.0, you can administer it that way as well.

  • Update the firmware down

I need to update the firmware down.
I have a Mac OS X cd. Whenever I want to boot from it, appears with a yellow wallpaper "Apple Firmware usw".
I once looked, which I have firmware. The firmware I have, it is not for the iBook G3. So, how can I update the firmware of my iBook down?
    Thank you
(This text was translated by google translated. German into English)

Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
The older, colored iBooks (commonly referred to as "clamshells") need a firmware update. Newer (all-white) iBooks do not need a firmware update.
Which Mac OS X disc are you trying to use? (What does it say on the disc?)

  • I have a late 2011 macbook pro and it wont update the firmware to 2.7, it downloads the update then says its installing it but when i go back to software update it keeps coming up saying it needs to be updated

I have a late 2011 macbook pro running OSX Lion, and it wont update the firmware to 2.7, it downloads the update then says its installing it but when i go back to software update it keeps coming up saying it needs to be updated. Im wondering what can i do to stop this or get it to update.

Once it is downloaded you need to restart the computer if it does not restart automatically. When it next starts up you should note a progress bar appearing below the Apple logo. When done the computer will restart once more. The new firmware should now be installed.

I'd say your sister messed up and your iPod is toasted.
Think about it...  She plugged it in to another computer, she doesn't remember what she did (yeah, right), and now your iPod is not being recognized by your computer...
Also take into consideration how old is your sister, and how much does she know about electronics?

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Need help - Error while updating the firmware of Muvo Slim using the recovery t

    Hi ,
While I am trying to update my Muvo slim firmware using the recovery tool it throwd up an error. And from then onwards if I am trying to power it up it won't.
If I again try to update the firmware, it throws up the error that "Unable to Write to Device: Device Time out".
I am afraid that my Muvo slim got bricked. Can you please help me in recovering the same.
PS: My PC OS is Windows XP.
    Thank & Regards
    ksraghava?

On my XP system, the last time I wanted to reload the firmware, I had to remove all of my Creative software programs,?and then revert my Windows Media Player back to 0 and then use The Recovery Tool. It is a bit of a pain, but does seem to work when you are getting errors with the firmware download.

Almost forgot. Make sure your player is fully charged or has a fresh battery before starting any firmware download.
