Hello everybody, Im trying to update my ITunes on my MAC (laptop) to the newer version so I can then be able to update the latest updates for my Iphone-3G. I don’t require a complete reinstall just need to be able to update my itunes.
What I have tried so far is I had my MAC search for update’s and it said that I should update to (ITunes version  10 . 6 . 3 ) So I asked it to do the update but after 2hrs of waiting for it to download/update it then puts up a message saying the following- (In order to continue installation, please close the following application: ITunes).
When I tried to do this another message comes up that says- (The update ITunes can’t be installed. The following install step failed: run preupgrade script for Apple mobile device support. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.)
I have also tried to run the update while having closed ITunes before I even start the update but the same problem happens after waiting about 2hrs.
Some one that had the same problem said this might be happening in the older operating systems. But that does not make sense because surely Apple want customers who own a MAC and i-phone to still buy from iTunes.
My MAC is about 4-5years old. I have a i-phone.3G,
Can anybody help me please and Thank you?

Download iTunes using the tab at the top of this page. Then run the update with iTunes closed.

  • I have OSX 10.6.8 and need to upgrade to 10.7.  How do I do this.  It is necessary to be able to download the 1014 Turbotax

How do I upgrade OSX 10.6.8 to 10.7.  Turbotax no longer can work on 10.6.8.

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • Upgrading from 10.4.11 so I can download newer versions of iTunes

I swear by, and at Apple! I have been limited to dial-up in my area until just a month ago, now I find myself exiled back to the dark ages. Trying to use my iPod again but I need to have at least iTunes 7.4, which I'm told (by Apple) that I need to upgrade to Leopard- which is no longer available! Working on a non-Intel processor, I can't upgrade to Snow Leopard. I feel I am once again hosed and shunned by Apple. What are my options please?

BDAqua had me confused by that quote until I read http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13103593#13103593
    I see you also asked:
I'm running OS10.4.11 and would like to install Leopard.
Technically you'll need a CPU >867 MHz to do that. Some have done it on your model computer but I think it was just to prove a point.
Any other improvements I need to consider for near future?
    More RAM.
By the time you buy more RAM, possibly a CPU upgrade, and USB2 card you're probably talking just a newer used computer. I see G4 MDD models locally for $250.
P.S. I carried on in BDAqua's style of answering your question in the other thread here. You asked a fairly open-ended question there and it really merited starting your own topic on the upgrade question. If we have too many sub-threads going in one topic started by another poster it gets confusing for all.

  • Since upgrading from FF3 to FF4 I cannot open a new browser window once I already have FireFox4 open. The browser opens, however The webpage itself is Blank(No URL), No tabs, No Bookmarks or toolbars either

    Serious Bug-a-Boo :(

Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
    Marking case: Solved
Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.

There is no download; you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

I need to upgrade from Safari 5.1.10.  Went t the best buy site you indicated but that product is no longer available.  Now what do I do?

What model MacBook Pro and what version OSX do you have?
Safari is download as an update to OSX.
It maybe yo have to update OSX version to get the latest Safari version.
SOme model Macs can be updated to latest version of Safari/OSX since the hardware does not support it.
BTW this is the Mac Pro desktop forum

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

    Other countries...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
    Next...
    Upgrade to Mountain Lion
With Regard to ML...  Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using... Also note that Rosetta is no longer supported in Lion and Mountain Lion...

You should also consider more RAM... Get the Maximum you can for your Mac...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM

The above site also has videos on how to Install RAM should you need it...

I need to upgrade from my present operating version Mac OS X , Version 10.6.8 to the Snow Leopard. However, I am unable to locate this app. Is it still available? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Prior to upgrading to Maverick, you must FIRST make sure your iMac meets all of its system requirements.

  • Is there a version of Acrobat XI Pro called 11.0.2?  I am trying to submit a grant on grants.gov, and it is telling me that I need to upgrade from version 11.0.08 to 11.0.02.

Is there a version of Acrobat XI Pro called 11.0.2?  I am trying to submit a grant on grants.gov, and it is telling me that I need to upgrade from version 11.0.08 to 11.0.02.

Here is the message that appears:  It's not a screen shot, but this is the entire page as it comes up:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade
to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html
In spite of what the message says, I am using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, not Reader.

I have lost nearly all my photos and events.  I received a message effectively saying that I need to upgrade from an old base.  I think I may have tried to open an event that was stored in iPhoto Buddy a few days ago.  iPhoto Buddy is not supported in Lion.  How can I retrieve my phjotos?

    What version of iPhoto?
    Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    Hello kparker2112,
I understand you would like information on upgrading your operation system. The link below will help you determine if your computer meets the requirements for the current version of OS X, which is Yosemite. I would highly recommend backing up your data before upgrading any version of OS X:

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model
                 Identifier 5,1 or later.
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later.
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

I need to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.6 before I can download MOUNTAIN LION OSX. I am having trouble finding this download for 10.6.6.

10.7/10.8 will NOT run your older PPC or most Intel software, you going to have to spend money on a older machine that might not be worth it.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also 10.7/10.8 is slower and has more memory needs you machine might not be able to handle (4GB+) also your older CPU and graphics card.
If you want fast, OS X 10.6.8 is simply the fastest with a fresh install, even faster than 10.5. AND it runs your older software, no need to purchase new ones.
Run 10.6 until the wheels fall off that machine before you inflicted yourself with a backwards crap of the Lions.
