Do I Need to Use Boot Camp Assistant to Make Boot Camp Bootable, to Make It Work?

Hi. Could I just use a third-party program instead to partition my iMac drive and then restore the image of my Boot Camp using a third-party image restoring app and then install the Boot Camp drivers from Apple (I hope they update them soon)? Or everything still has to go through Boot Camp Assistant to make Windows 8 Pro boot and work properly (I use Windows for gaming, benchmarks and diagnostics)?
Thank you in advance.
God bless.

One thing is the Boot Camp Assistant version, and another thing is the Boot Camp drivers version. You have told us your Boot Camp Assistant version (OS X Mountain Lion has got Boot Camp Assistant 5), but this doesn't mean that you have to use the Boot Camp 5 drivers.
As you want to use a 32-bit operating system, you have to use the Boot Camp 4 drivers (Boot Camp 5 only supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8). In order to download the correct Boot Camp 4 drivers version for your computer, download Boot Camp Support Software from the Apple site > http://support.apple.com/downloads Just search the Boot Camp 4 software which is compatible with your computer, and install them after installing Windows.
If you need all the steps to install Windows on the Mac, print this PDF > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

I just bought a new iMac and used the Migration Assistant to transfer my files. Initially, all was working, but now a week later, I get the message that the application manager is missing, and I cannot get Photoshop and InDesign to launch. For my personal use, I did not a need to join Creative Cloud. Have you any suggestions for a work-around?

    Hi,
OK. Following instructions, I've uninstalled the old Flash Player and installed the right one, and videos are now playing. Thanks for pointing me to the other posts on this site. YouTube and other videos are now playing
Some of the videos still play jerkily (they don't stream evenly). A few stream evenly once they've been allowed to buffer fully. (I think I'm using these terrms correctly.) Is this solely caused by low bandwidth, or is there something—an adjustment of some kind—that I can do with Flash Player to have online videos stream evenly, even from the moment I start them?
As I mentioned, to bypass this uneven streaming while watching online, I download the videos and watch them usually using Quicktime Player 7.6.4. Still, they don't always play evenly, but for the most part do.
I've just tested bandwidth and I'm told:
    5.63 Bbps Download speed
    0.63 Mbps Upload speep

  • I installed OS Lion on my late 2009 Macbook and now I am having issues with WiFi.  When my computer goes to sleep my mac won't recognize my WiFi and I need to use the network assistant EVERYTIME to get on the internet.

Very frustrated as my Macbook has been freezing a lot especially when streaming video online or sometimes just by being on a website with a lot of flash.  I've updated all my software and I have 4 gigs of ram.  I do have most of my 250 gig hard drive used up....coud this be an issue?

  • When I try to partition my hard drive with boot camp assistant, I get "Boot camp assistant quit unexpectedly"

I am seeing numerous people with the same problem, but I couldn't find any answers.  This is a new macbook Air with all updates installed.  This is a common problem
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000000000003c
I am clueless as to how to find a solution.

I was able to get it to work when downloaded the drivers to an external hard drive formated for windows instead of burning it to my external DVD driver. The partition loaded. The down load failed, but the partion worked.  I had to restart and hold down the option key to change the boot disc to the external DVD drive that had the windows installation disc loaded

  • Unable to continue the boot camp assistant

    Hi,
I have just updated a Mac Pro (4,1) to OS X Mountain Lion from Leopard, and want to create a boot camp volume, however, when starting the assistant, I get the following screen:
However, I can press the continue button all I want, nothing seems to happen. I have searched around for answers, but I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. Am I alone here?
Any tips or hints how I can solve this issue, please let me know!
    Kind regards,
    Danny

Old post, modern-day problem. I'm having this issue in 10.8.4. My Mac has 4 hard drives, and they are striped in pairs with a software RAID. However, I did not stripe the whole hard drives but partitions of them, so there are some non-striped partitions it should work on. It let me go through in Snow Leopard just fine until, at some point, it said I couldn't use it on this disk since I was booted to the striped volume.
I ran it in Terminal and saw this show up when I hit continue. What is this, a newbie-level Objective-C error?

do i need to use the mac book cleaner ? my computer is working fine i think.
Is it safe and is it required ?

What exactly do you mean by "the mac book cleaner"?
You don't need to use any third party maintenance tools, cache cleaners, etc. if everything is working fine, & you are unlikely to need one to fix most issues anyway.

  • Corrupt Boot disc - how do I boot from OSX disc to run Repair Disc?

I have just run Verify Disc and it has identified problems which requires me to boot from my OSX disc and run Repair disc.
I think I do this by switching on while holding down C....is that right?
ALSO I can only find my Leopard boot discs and I am currently running Snow Leopard....do I NEED to use the Snow Leopard discs to boot up?
    Thanks in advanced....worried!

Unfortunate that your HD and Time Capsule are playing up at the same time, to say the least.
Hopefully your data will be salvageable, and there are several software options to try, here's a couple:
    free (I think) http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/35373/disk-drill
    and paid for http://download.cnet.com/Data-Rescue/3000-2094_4-211375.html
I've not used either, but the paid for app may look pricey but it seems highly recommended byt those that have used it.
Have you tried re-booting the Time Capsule - still seems hard to believe that's gone down as well. Good luck.

  • I need help with boot camp. "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."

This message appears every time I try to partition my disk:
"Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
I verified my Macintosh HD disk on Disk utility and then tried to repair it, but I am unable to click the repair button.
It says it's not available because the startup disk is selected.
I don't know what to do or how to go about both these problems.
    Please, any suggestions?

  • Boot Camp Assistant won't work - keeps asking me to use Software Update.

I am trying to use Boot Camp to install Windows but my Boot Camp Assistant won't work - it keeps asking me to use Software Update. So, even though I know everything is up to date, I start Software Update and it confirms that indeed everything is up to date. I try Boot Camp Assistant again, but the same message appears. I search every possible Boot Camp upgrade to download from Apple but they are all .exe files and need Windows to run, so those don't seem to be what I need. So I am caught in a circle of nothing working. Figures - the ONE weekend I need to install Windows and use a Windows-based program!!! And of course Apple support is closed over the weekend - another great asset to spending thousands of dollars on a product. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I too am having a similar problem. I am trying to install Windows in a newly created Boot Camp partition. I have Windows 7 but Boot Camp Assistant only mentions XP and Vista. I put in my installation disk of Windows 7 but it refuses to install it. My OS is fully up to date.

  • I thought apple is user friendly. That is why I bought it. I do not have a use to download my boot camp assistant for a compatible to microsoft words, excel, powerpoint. They told me I have iWork's for all of this products but mine is not working.

    To whom it may concern.
I bought an apple product which is MacBook Air about 7 mths. ago . Anyway I would like to download a compatible words, excel, powerpoint. they told me that I do not need it since IWORKS is all I needed. I tried my keynote , numbers does not worked. Somebody emailed me sending me this mumbo jumbo for it to work. Well, if I was a computer wiz, I probably will not be asking for help.
I followed the tutorials for windows for mac, followed every instructions, hold and behold another problem. I have to have a usb, when I bought this at Best Buy, I asked them what do I need , they said that I do not need anything else because it is all in there. So to make a long story short. I am just so frustrated .
How can I download the windows for mac, I know I have to start in utilities , boot camp assistant, then the usb problem. Please I need help, it is much needed for my job. Ipages does not saved anything, I mean nothing it just disappeared , and you do not have any idea how much I have the long hrs. I have put in.
Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate this .

You can buy Microsoft Office for Mac, it includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Or you can download a free copy of LibreOffice which contains substitutes (good ones) for the Microsoft Office programs.
Do not even think of using Boot Camp unless you have a complete and current TM backup or a clone to restore if it goes wrong. You will also need to buy Windows and Microsoft Office for it. And you MUST read the directions very carefully.

  • Cannot restore Boot Camp partition using Boot Camp Assistant with OS X 10.6

I have decided to eliminate my Boot Camp partition running Windows Vista, but when I attempted to restore the partition using Boot Camp Assistant, I got the following message:
Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.
You must update your system software before using this setup assistant.
I am running Snow Leopard, and there IS no update to the system software! How do I resolve this?

Found the answer. . . I needed to enable journaling on my hard drive and. . .voila!

  • What is the correct boot camp version to use with an early 2009 iMac 24 inch?  Boot Camp assistant says software not currently available?

I have an early 2009 24 inch iMac.  It is running mavericks.  When I attempt to download using the boot camp assistant i get the message " software not currently available from server"  So I went to the Boot Camp support website and there are about half a dozen versions of the boot camp download.  None of them match my hardware.  I tried the one closest, but when I went to run the setup in windows, it says my machine does not support x64.  I have installed windows 7 home premium x64....It works, sort of.  I cant get sound and my magic mouse behaves badly.
Do I need a different version of windows or is there a compatible version of boot camp for my system?  Thanks for reading.

If you installed Mavericks then you had Boot Camp 5 installed automatically. If you have tried downloading from Apple's download site you won't find a version other than 4 or 5 that provide a total package.
