Do I need to use Toshiba Recovery Wizard?

Hi everyone!
I've been having major problems with my Toshiba since I first got it last March. I have a Toshiba Satellite L750, Windows 7, 64-bit, with 6GB of RAM.
Last December (right before finals were due -_-) my laptop just committed suicide. The hard drive totally died on me out of the blue. I got a computer-savvy friend to replace my hard drive with a new one. Everything was working fine at first, but within a week my laptop ate that hard drive up too. It was BIZARRE. I went back home for the holidays and since my laptop was still under warranty then (it's not now), Toshiba replaced my hard drive, reinstalled Windows, etc. This was in January - things were fine, but it's now May and everything is messed up again.
Basically everything takes forever to load or it doesn't load at all - desktop, taskbar, programs, internet, user accounts... sometimes Windows won't even load. Booting in Safe Mode, things work, but they still take a little longer than usual, even just logging into my user account.
I've ran CCleaner numerous times. I've tried starting up with certain programs disabled. I've ran virus scans, and this is another problem -every single time I try to run Malware Bytes, in Safe Mode and regularly, the scan ALWAYS freezes. After that, nothing else works and I have to restart the laptop. Startup Repair doesn't do anything. Neither does sfc/scannow. Also, I tried doing a System Restore, only to find that I have no restore points. It doesn't seem to be a virus - Avast is always running and hasn't found anything.
I ran a system analyzer on my laptop and this is some of the information I got:
513.0 GB of available space on system partition
Total size of hard drives is 595.6 GB
Total memory of PC is 6092 MB
-all of this is apparently "above average"
HDD speed = 58MB/second
CPU has 2 cores running at 2.29GHz
CPU temperature = 60C (140F)
I uninstalled programs I don't use and have tried physically cleaning my computer, but to no avail. Usually I can get past the startup/Windows logo screen fine, but once I get to a user account/desktop, that's when all the problems start.
Any suggestions?
Someone said to use the Toshiba Recovery Wizard/HDD Recovery, since I'm not too fussed about losing files. Do you think this will help? Would it completely wipe out Windows 7, though?
I can access the "Repair your computer" function that leads me to Toshiba Recovery Wizard... does that mean that it'll restore everything to factory settings (out-of-box) and reinstall Windows 7 automatically? I'm assuming this because I don't remember receiving any recovery disks, so I'm thinking this might be the hidden recovery partition. I don't have the Windows installation CD, so I just want to make sure I won't end up without an OS before I go ahead and try it.
I'm trying to exhaust all options because I'm a brokeass student and would prefer to not have to buy a new laptop... but if nothing can be done, then I guess I'll have to.

So do you think this will work? The fact that my laptop has eaten up 3 HDDs now kinda makes it seem like it's a hardware issue... a problem with the motherboard. I gave this laptop to Toshiba in January when I was still under warranty, and I specifically told them that this laptop goes Hannibal for hard drives -which is not normal - and that they should check if there's a hardware issue (it had eaten 2 HDDs at that point). Clearly they didn't do that, though - they just slapped in a new hard drive. If they had listened to me, then my HDD wouldn't be dying every 3, 4 months. I've accepted that I need to buy a new laptop, but I just need something to work in the meantime while I look for one (and scrounge up some cash).
Also, do you think the fact that nothing ever loads on my laptop will have an effect on the Recovery Wizard? I read that if even one thing goes wrong during the recovery process, everything will be completely lost and you can't even try the process again. Obviously I don't want that to happen!
And one more question: it's not 100% clear in the manual and that is what I originally came here to post about - will the "out-of-box" recovery process delete my OS? I have a Windows 7 sticker on my laptop, so I'm pretty sure it was pre-installed... I definitely don't have any disks with me. So even if it does work, will it reinstall Windows 7/MS Office/etc. automatically for me?

P745: Possible Bad Hard Drive. How do I get Toshiba Recovery Wizard on New HD?

Hey everyone last week my computer was behaving slouchy so I did a simple restart. When it restarted it took me to a screen which said loading "Windows files" then it took me to Startup Repair. Startup repair could not repair the issue and I did a few check disk scans and one of them said 4 sectors of the hard drive were bad. I used Toshiba recovery wizard and restored the computer to an out of box state.
I also installed ubuntu 12.04 as a dual boot option last night. Now fast forward to this morning and I am using Windows. After installing Toshiba driver updates the laptop is again behaving slouchy and refusing to load web pages. When I restart the computer after one to the driver updates I get an error about not being able to start windows and so I choose "Attempt to boot from last successful attempt" this works. However, something tells me that the bad sectors of the hard drive are to blame.

However, the hard drive will be blank and so I want it to have Windows 7 on it and the Toshiba recovery wizard which I find to be extremely useful.

Then somehow this usb will assist me in transferring the contents of my current hard drive to the new one including Windows and Toshiba Recovery Wizard?

Your answer in general -
You should have the option to create recovery media from your Toshiba so you don't have to buy them.
Type in your search bar recovery and the recovery media creator or may be named something different should be there to make the 3 or 4 DVD's.
This will restore to out of box settings including the recovery partition. - IT DOES NOT BACKUP YOUR OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM or anything you have added since it was new.
During the recovery it will ask if you want to rescue your info or you can save your documents, pictures , etc manually before hand.
If you reformatted the drive and installed a stand alone version of windows 7 there will not be a recovery partition and you will have to order the recovery media, you can get it here in US : http://support.toshiba.com/recovery#media

UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before. UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example

I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba. Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
Click ‘repair your computer’
File: \boot\memtest.exe
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message. I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy. On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop. I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

i recently noticed that my toshiba recovery wizard option in the Windows 7 RE no longer works. All the HDD recovery partitions are intact. i tried a recovery by pressing the '0' when i powered up the system and performed a factory recovery, but the recovery wizard in Windows RE still won't come up. I even tried using the recovery media
I made when I first got the computer. I even tried having the recovery media delete all info on the drive before I tried to perform a factory restore. when i use the 'Windows 7 Repair disc' i also made when I got the computer to try and bring up the toshiba recovery wizard, it comes up. but that doesn't really help me because it tries to use disc based recovery not the HDD based recovery. it also doesn't help because I chose to make my recovery media using two USB flash drives, instead of a bunch of cd/dvd discs. I know the recovery partitions and the recovery files are there and intact, but for some reason the recovery wizard won't open.
when i go to a command prompt in winre and type either startup32_tools.exe or startup32_proton.exe (i'm not sure which) the recovery wizard finally comes up but with the error f3-ff00-0021. I don't know if this is because i'm trying to bring up the wizard manually and doing something wrong, or if this is part of the problem i am experiencing.
P.S. To Toshiba: Major Kudo's on the option in the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator to use a couple of flash drives (a 4Gb and a 16GB in my case) for creating the recovery media. It's alot better than having to burn 5 dvd discs. dvd-r disc are really expensive where i am. the flash drive option saved me time and money!

UPDATE: (long overdue)
Turns out the error was caused by the backup utility was using that was supposed to make an image of ALL the partitions on my system. turns out the type of partition that containd all the toshiba/microsoft windows recovery files (type 0x17). are not commonly supported by some backup software. although the files were initially there, when i ran a system recovery using the backup software, it restored the system, but blanked out the partition called 'HDDRECOVERY'. as a result, when i ran into problems later and wanted to perform a factory system recovery, it was not possible because the files no longer existed. i talked to the backup software company about this issue, but they were not very cooperative. also the inital issue of the repair option not appearing was caused by a issue with the BCD file that windows bootmanager uses to keep track of boot options. i have since learned how to fix this issue, but it is a pain in the @$$ when it occurs. My solution issue, was resolved by the fact i had thooughtfully made an partition image of the partitions 'HDDRECOVERY' and 'SYSTEM' using commodo backup. i had made them on the day i recieved my laptop, putting it on my old seagate freeagent desk drive, and had subsequently put the drive away into storage and forgotten about the backups. the most difficult part, once i remembered about the backups, was getting them restored properly. but, i was able to do it so problem solved.
Moral of this tale: BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! You can never have too many backups

I still don't understand the situation. If that message continues to appear, something has gone wrong. If you cannot restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents from the recovery partition, best to order the recovery media from Toshiba. If the hardware is okay, that will enable you to start out fresh.

Toshibs satellite A665 keeps booting to Toshiba Recovery Wizard

Is there any way to disable this at boot. I am working on this for a pc illiterate friend who doesn't know why the recovery screen started. If I select No on the warning screen doesn't work. Neither does selecting Yes and then cancel. I was once able to get it to boot to the window login screen but restarting the computer goes back to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard.

Looks like I got it working. I powered down the laptop and ,with the a/c adapter unpluged, pulled the battery. It has rebooted to the Win7 login screen several times now.

What I wanted to ask is: Will recovery discs restore Windows 7 Home Premium too as it was when i turned on my laptop first time(a screen prompted asking for user name, company name etc.) and will I be able to burn recovery discs again( will the hidden image be placed on my HDD again)

Update: I learned on the MS site that I have worm:Win32/Kaaneut.A worm. It lets Media Center take over, Restore system won't work, etc. I would like to try removing since I am having a problem un-stalling Win7.
Help again, Jerry (if you are there.) As suggested a day ago, I am going to re-install Windows 7 but because of the problem with the Media Center taking over my computer, I am more than confused now. I have all the discs suggested by Toshiba when I bpught it and have even did a re-install a few years ago. Now, I don't know where to start with these discs. I would appreciate any help. It would be interesting to know what disk you are using exactly:
-Microsoft installation disk
-Toshiba recovery disk
-Drivers/Application disk
You can only reinstall the OS using Toshiba recovery disk or Microsoft disk. With Toshiba disk you get factory settings back, that means preinstalled OS with all driver and tools. If you use the Microsoft disk you have to download all drivers from the Toshiba page to complete the installation.

NB200-10Z: Can't make recovery disk using TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator

I finally got round to buying a USB DVD drive in order to create recovery discs for my NB200-10Z. I got the following:
* Samsung SE-S084C, External USB 2.0 Slimline 8X DVD Writer, Black
I have twice tried to create a recovery disc and am now left with two trashed DVDs. The error codes in the error window are:
Error Code: 0E01B5-26-2A040803
Error code: 02016F-3C-00000000
The first time the burning was stopped, the second time the verify failed.
Can anyone shed light on this?

I decided to try out the USB DVD drive on another laptop to perform a HDD backup operation...and it failed as well. Grrrr. Same DVD media (I just hadn't got round to getting new media to try).
I think I shall discount the possiblility of the NB200 being at fault, and therefore shall consider this question answered on this forum.
*Long version:*
Well, I ended up using Virtual CD to "burn" an ISO file to HDD, and then copied that to another laptop to burn to DVD (not using the USB DVD drive, but the same DVD media type). Being the curious type I decided to perform a restore using the USB DVD drive. It got part way through installation then informs me that a CRC check had failed...argggg.
So, to cut a long story even shorter, I ended up slipstreaming the Intel storage drivers into a Win XP ISO (created from a Win XP CD I had from another previous laptop) and creating a bootable USB drive. Now I have a clean install with all the NB200 driver installed. Phew.
Actually, to think a bit more about it, I could have attempted to put the Toshiba recovery ISO onto the bootable USB drive, but I've done the clean install now anyway.
For whatever reason, I had such trouble getting the NB200 BIOS to recognise the USB DVD drive in order to change the boot order (it wasn't in the option list). This was with the DVD in the tray, and without the DVD in the tray. Some investigation required on my part, I think, to determine exactly what is going on.

Hi skid! I'm not sure what your'e wanting to do. I can tell you what I do. I also have a 1TB external drive. I have a program called Macrium Reflect. It is a great program and there is a free version. Once a month I create a image of my drive. It will create a image of all three of my partitions. If I have some major problems. I restore that image and I'm back just like the day I created the image. I never use the Toshiba recovery media, because I don't want to start over from day one.
I'm sure you will get better replies during the week.

Satellite P500 - Restart loop after using Toshiba recovery disk

Hi,
I have got a problem recovering SATELLITE P500. I had made the recovery disks. It boots ok from the recovery disk and formats the hard drive and copies the disks to the hard drive. It then starts windows setup and reboots.
Then it goes to a loop
1) Start up and says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use"
2) Toshiba banner saying please wait... Finnishing installation may take several minutes. Pleae do not interupt or shutdown the computer!
3) Windows logo
4) Shutting down...
5) restarts and goes to 1)
It would be great if some one could help me with this.

I have noticed the same on my Satellite P500 but I must say its not an issue, its absolutely normal. The notebook will restart several times (10 times or more) to finish the installation.
You must know that a lot of drivers/tools will be installed and certain restart must be done to configure everything properly.
So dont interrupt the recovery installation, just wait a little bit longer and drink a coffee. Everything happens automatically and your notebook will be reinstalled with factory settings. :)

So what happens if I need to use the recovery tool, and dont have XP or Vis

Which model of the player do you have ? You could go to the Recovery Mode (no software needed) and then do a clean up and failing which do a format all. then start from fresh.
It is possible that you have songs in there without ID3 tags and thus it does not show up on the player.

Can't reformat using Toshiba recovery disk

I'm not sure my question was posted by others or not. Please let me know if someone had posted this.
Here's my problem.
I had put the recovery CD into the CD-ROM. Then I restart my laptop and press F12 and choose boot from CD-ROM. Then I come to a black screen where there written "Windows 98 ..."
After wait for awhile, fail message appear.
My laptop was with Windows XP and I do not know why the word "Windows 98" appear. After failed, I try go in window and double click the CD-ROM setup and it said could not read one of the file in CD. The CD is used to reformat the laptop before.
Is it the CD corrupted?

First of all it would be interesting to know what notebook you have. Maybe it was delivered with Windows 98 recovery disk I dont know.
Theoretically it could be a problem of the CD. Just try another disk and see what happens.

Using Toshiba recovery disks my L505d ES5025 fails the Windows 7 setup

My L505 progressively got slower and started having errors. Then Windows wouldn't load regularly, only in safe mode. Then Safe mode would load. I then purchased the recovery disks for my model and started the recovery process. Everything was going smoothly. All three disk were installed, and Windows was doing its things setting up for the first time use. After the fourth or fifth time Windows restarted it froze.
I turned it off with the power switch. Turned it back on and asked if I wanted to start in safe mode or regular. I choose regular. It started and went to the log on screen. The Administrator account was the only one to choose from. I clicked it and it said that account had been deactivated.
I turned it off and back on and went with safe mode. Worked fine. Added another account all looked good. Turned it off turned it back on, went to log on screen choose the new account, then it went to blank desktop and froze.
I have tried the recovery 3 times. Once using the wipe HDD method thinking something might be causing a problem. Nothing worked. Is this a hardware or software problem? What should my next steps be?

It sounds like the recovery process isn't completing successfully, which makes me think it's a hardware problem. The HDD is the most likely to fail, but it's hard to know for sure. If you have another HDD that you could try, I'd try that next.

Can I save a Toshiba recovery after years of use?

I saved a recovery when the computer was new, but that saved copy is not available now. Can I save a recovery again, even after years of use? I am having computer problems, so i plan to do a system restore and hope that all returns OK to an earlier good version. Before I start that system restore, however, I would like to have a recovery point saved as a backup in case the system restore does not work properly. I will start that system restore in a few hours, so any quick replies will be much appreciated. Thanks!

That's fine, but you still need the recovery discs for possible use when, for instance, you need to restore to a new hard disk.
The answer is Yes you can. For instructions, see the section Creating recovery media, which begins on p. 65 of the User's Guide.
