Do I really need a floppy ?
This is my first build in about 20 years. I go back to 286/386sx days
If you notice in my profile, I don't have a floppy drive.
I will be installing XP SP2 (haven't bought it yet) but want to get a head start on what I need to do to get prepared.
I will adding 2 more drives in about a month that I want to run in RAID-1.
From what I have been reading on the board I need to have a floppy ready with drivers to be able to accomplish this at install time.
My question is, is there another way, since finding a floppy these days is a bit cumbersome.
I forgot to add in my profile, there is also an LG (forget the model number) IDE CD/DVD recorder.
I do have an old external USB 1 floppy. Could that be used, somehow. It came with my old(er) Toshoba laptop.
This machine will be used primarily for Photo editing and, at least for now, I have no intention to overclock. I'm sure I will, at some point. (can't resist).
The PC is now working, as much as it can tell me, since it will go into the BIOS. Seems to recognize all the components. Until I actually have Windows XP to install, of course I won't know if there will be any problems.
Can anyone help me with the floppy issue ?

The 2 additional drives will be data only (at least that's the plan) configured as RAID-1
As far as Slipstream... I read another thread on that so have an idea how to go about doing it.
If my laptop can stay up long enough (having video card problems) I can do it using that. If not, I'll get one of the techies in my company to do it.
So, it looks like, from my description, I need a floppy drive..or lacking that... slipstream Windows and the drivers onto an install CD.
Anything else I need to know in terms of BIOS settings for the box that I am building ?
PS: I am a software developer that lost interest in the actual computer innards a long time ago...

I appreciate all your advice about upgrading from my Nexus NX-3500 PSU .... I had previously written 350W with 18A on the 12V rail .... actually upon closer inspection the specs are 330W with 16A on the 12V rail. Ok, I know this is not powerful enough, but as I said, I'm going to be using this PC for music recording, using very sensitive condenser microphones, and the PSUs recomended (Enermax 465 etc) really seem too loud.... the Enermax, for example, has a *minimum* load noise level of around 39dB(A)! That might not interfere with the needs of a gamer or office worker, but it's really just too loud for use with recording.... once you get that unwanted noise recorded in audio, it's virtually impossible to remove it.
It's been possible to build totally silent pc systems, using this same PSU, with Athlon XP CPUs. I understand now that the A64 (and the MSI board it seems) needs a lot of power, but the figures that have been suggested to me (450W-550W) seem very heavy. Reasons for thinking so:
MESH (http://www.meshcomputers.com) is perhaps the largest UK PC retailer and regularly wins awards for reliability etc etc from all the top UK PC magazines. They allow you to configure an Athlon 64 system with the follwing spec:
* ATX tower
* A64 3000+, 32000+, 34000+ and the A64FX versions
* 2 SATA Hard Drives in Raid
* up to 1GB RAM
* TOP graphics cards (I mean the ones costing hundreds of pounds ... mine is bottom-end and should require a lot less power than these)
* DVDRW
* 2nd Optical Drive
* Floppy
***** PSU 360W *****
Now, they also offer extensive warranties with these systems. My question is, would they offer this much power in a PC, with a full warranty, and be rated at the top of PC retailers in the UK, if their 360W PSU was not sufficient? Now, my PC is LESS POWERFUL than the ones listed above, so why do I need to get a PSU thats so much more powerful? Incidentally, they use the ASUS K8V Deluxe motherboard with the A64 systems ... does this board handle power better than my MSI KT8 NEO?... allowing you to use smaller PSUs?
Furthermore, if you look at MESH's Shuttle-case (v.v.small) versions of the Athlon64 system ... they supply it with a 240W PSU!
Finally, if you look at Sound On Sound magazine (which any of you remotely involved in music production will know) ... this month they did a review of silent PSUs .. and said that owners of 3GHz or faster CPUs, with 2 Hard Drives and 1GB of RAM, would probably be best served with 400W PSUs. The 500W etc PSUs were recommended for dual-cpu systems or those with multiple DSP cards.
I won't be playing games on this machine, or watching movies (which is why I just went for the bottom model GeForce graphics card FX5200 ... it doesn't even have a fan, so it shouldn't take up that much power). A lot of you guys seem to have top-end graphics cards, and 3 or more hard disks, as well as faster CPUs than mine, so you should need more power than me. In light of this, and bearing in mind that I really do need a very quiet PSU ... can you recommend something? Will 400W really not be enough?
Silenx and Seasonic make 400W PSUs with 22A on the 12V rail. Is this not sufficient? The Silenx is supposed to work at 14dB(A) ... load is not specified.
Please advise ... any comments much appreciated as really need to get this sorted fast.

Some reviews say there was not enough +12V power leads. Even when they purchased a Y-Splitter, the Enermax power supply did not have enough power, which does not sound so good for me. Besides the color, what is the difference between the VE(FM), VE-SFMA, VE(FC), VE 24P, VE(FCA)??? I went to Enermax's website and looked under power supplies and I could not find anything on those EG465P models (must be old models). Which EG465P power supply do you have Jocko? And which one do you recommend from the list above? Thanks.

Yes the first one looks OK, as long as it has a 4 pin square connector for Mobo, and an independant 4 pin Molex for Vid card. Don't see connectors listed.
The second one is the one that SAB had I think, the 12v rail is split into 2 rails, not so good. The others, if its a bad review,leave it.
As long as its at least a 465 enermax with 33amps on the 12v, a square 4 pin connector, and an independant line for vid card ( I think latest ones may have 2 independant 12v lines) then you can't go wrong.

Wifi Syncing really needs a fix. Or at the very least some manual parameters.
After installing IOS5 , itunes 10.5 and making sure eveything works i've come across a snag like many others.
Wi-fi syncing simply doesn't work for me.
I have the option in summary , it is clicked and enabled.
I've followed the trouble shooting guide here : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4062 a few times over.
Still my phone claims not to see the computer itunes is installed on.
On my phone , in settings - general - iTunes Wi-Fi Sync the button is greyed out and under it it says "Sync will resume when "HOUSE-03-PC-05" is available".
It is available LOL , ios stop lying to me.
I have installed a few ping apps , where pinging to the ip of said computer works fine from my phone.
I have disabled my windows firewall to be sure nothing is being blocked by it.
I checked if bonjour still works with other apps that need it. And they work.
Airvideo for example can connect to the computer that has my itunes installed just fine.
I installed "ip scanner" , it seems to discover the netbios name of the "HOUSE-03-PC-05" computer just fine.
The wireless access point I use is a D-link 2100AP, it doesn't block nor firewall anything. . Everything else wifi related I do works fine.
Itunes is running , my power cable is plugged in , and i'm not sitting at the wrong side of the desk while looking at the back of my screen.
I have even started a few tcp server programs of my own making on various ports on the pc itunes is installed on and connected to those ports using issh in telnet mode , and it works just as it's suposed to.
Something really needs fixing when it comes to the phone finding the computer that it uses for syincing.
Maybe the option to indicate the IP to try and connect to would fix it ? is it a resolve issue?
I was thinking the problem could be from uisng hyphens in my netbios names , but i really would doubt that .
Any more ideas on what more I could test for would be apreciated .

Phoenixxl.I had exactly the same problem and couldn't find the answer anywhere. However after playing a bit I found out that my computer name (i.e. Right click on "Computer" and select properties) contained a hypen. I renamed the computer to delete the hypen, restarted and now it syncs wirelessly like a charm!
Obviously something that apple overlooked which will probably right itself in the next release but should get you up and running fingers crossed! -

i have a canon 70d and just purchased elements 12. It will not open a raw file for me. I have been advised to download the latest version of camera raw, i have done this and it still says my camera is not supported. I really need to open my raw files. Can anybody help me.
You'll need to update to at least ACR 8.2 for the 70D to be recognized. The normal way to update PSE12 to the latest CR is to use Help / Updates in the Editor which should update to ACR 8.5.
According to Adobe's website PSE12 shipped with ACR 8.1 and you say it says yours is reported as ACR 8.0.
Are you using PSE 11 and not 12? PSE 11's maximum ACR version is 8.0. -
My mac is only a year old. I am still under warranty but don't want to have to go to the store. I know it has something to do with not connecting to my hard drive and I want to make it clear that IT HAS NOT BEEN DROPED,BANGED OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY!!
Here is what I have tried so far:
For safe start The loading bar shows up but then doesn't load. After a few seconds it disappears and the wheel continues to spin.
I have tried PRAM but it doesn't help at all.
The only way I can get it off the start off page is to either go to fsck or Mac OS utilites.
Fsck comes up as an error message for me when I put in fsck -FY. /sbin/fsck -FY also doesn't work.
Mac OS utilities really also doesn't much. When I try to back up my hard drive it recognizes the external drive but then has no where to put it to??? So then I tried reinstalling the lion software part bit it won't allow me because for some reason it is locked. So I also try to verify and repair my drive. An error message comes up so I know there is something wrong. But not what to do about it. So now I am here on the Internet.

I have used illustrator now for a long period of time. Recently I purchased Adobe CC. Had no problems with it untill now.
It's like this. Whenever I try to make a circle (or, square, line or other forms) Illustrator makes lots and lots of more circles within it.
From the moment I click on the page untill I release my mouse, it keeps making circles. (see enclosed picture)
I have really no idea whatsoever how to undo this. I have used Illiustrator CC before for another project, and it worked fine. Now however, it doesn't.
Can anyone help me out here? I have payed projects to deliver, and I really need this to work really soon...

Hi everyone..I really need some help! My computer went in for repair and cleaning. The music in my itunes library at the time was backed up on discs. I had not resynced my ipod touch with computer since that occurred in May of this year. Since then I have purchased an iphone and some new music was purchased as well. My phone has the new music (which is about 100 songs). Yesterday I decided I was ready to get everything organized and put all my music on my ipod and my apps on my phone. I have, as it would appear, reloaded all my music back into my library (a little over 1000 songs) as I can see the music and I can open and play it through itunes. I have resynched my ipod touch. All the music that was on my ipod touch has now been taken off and the only music that synched with it is the music I have purchased since I bought my iphone (only about 100 songs). Can't get all music on my ipod at all. Additionally, my account is not recognizing the touch as one of my devices. Any help at all would be appreciated!
You can contact Apple and request a 1-time redownload of your lost purchases. Of course, they prefer you follow some of these recommendations on backing up your purchases.

I really need your help. I'm 14.
I really need to put new music on my iPod and I have plugged it into my computer and its taking ages to back-up and it wont let me do anything until its done. It will take over 3 hours if it keeps on going like this. Please help me. I don't know what's wrong with it.

So, i plugged in my 5th generation ipod and when i plugged it in, it asked me if i want to set it as new ipod or back up from the 2nd generation ipod touch that i plugged in before, i accidently clicked on the back up from before so it when its done, it looked like my 2nd gen. ipod and i dont like it. For some reason my ipod touch 5 deleted all my notes and all the mail in my inbox its all gone. I do not have the iOS 6.1 update though. So I dont know how this could have happened. I have not backed up my ipod to my computer since I got it because thats not how I use it. But my sisters ipod 4 also for some reason had my notes downloaded onto hers? And she has recently backed up her ipod on the computer. But once the notes on mine were deleted so were hers. Zen microphoto help!! please i really need your h
hello everybody, i bought a zen microphoto 4GB in June and it worked perfectly until two days ago. I turned it on like i do everyday to listen to music on my way to school. i downloaded the newest version of firmware onto it'sthree days before. when i turned it on, it went into recovery mode. so i went to reboot, and it goes back into recovery mode. i tried about 3 times, then it disabled all the functions. i couldn't control anything. so i took out the battery, and left it until i came home. i come home, put in the battery, turn it on. i plug it in the computer, and the computer does not reconize that its docked and the screen goes white and then it shuts off by itself. then it just freezes, it refuses to turn on. i tell my friend today at school and he said the hard dri've crashed and now i have a brick the size of a zen microphoto. is this true, or?is something else wrong with it. please someone help if you can. one method i saw and tried worked well but you need to try it at your own risk!!! turn off your microphoto, grab your microphoto with the screen facing you, and either slap your hand against the SIDE of your microphoto, or slap the SIDE of your microphoto against your hand. This method works for me but try it at your own risk. it could damage your hard disk. (its probably already damaged anyways.)and if you really need to turn off your Zen but it wont turn off, i suggest removing the battery.

so i droped my mom's ipad on accedent while walking inside helping carry bags inside... and at fist no one really thought anything of it but we got inside and my stepdad went to check something on it and was like um... something wrong and i guess the fall put it into shock or something but we held down the 2 buttons and it light up but it was black and just with the back light on. And it still wont work so im not sure what to do... I know where the slide to turn it on is so i did that and it made the click noise to signal it was on and i pushed where an app would be and it went to it and made the music to the app... so it works but for some reason the screen is being all stupid... I really need to know if there is a way to fix the screen because if theres not im in a ton of trouble... please help!!!!

Really need help with this, can't use safari on my ipod
I clicked on a link on a website for my school, and then it opened in another page. idk if i clicked something or this happened on its own, but then a video tried to open from the image. I've messed around with my settings, and i can't seem to be able to get a youtube video to open on my ipod if it's from a website, i always have to go directly from youtube to find anything. So it says "could not load video", the only option is to click okay, so I do, and then it gives me the main ipod youtube page, with history and search and all that stuff. I give up and decide to just look at something else, and click safari, except it goes straight to the image, which goes straight to the unloadable video on another program, and then i have to close the page. It goes in circles, but it means that safari is unusable, and my computer is broken, so i really need it for internet.
Also, is there a way to make youtube videos viewable from a website link?
And why, when I search up a popular song on youtube on my ipod, and type in that i want the lyric video, i only get live versions, and there is never any lyric videos, and i usually detest live versions of songs?? and then when i search the same thing on someone's computer, i get my lovely lyric videos? Is Youtube angry at Apple or something?

answers are very helpful, especially for the first question, because i am clueless about technoloy. Honestly, it took me a year to learn how to turn on my computer....A lote of sitesuse the Flash version of YourTube. no iOS devices support flash. The you have to either use the YourTube app or Safari to go to YouTube since Safari tells the YouTube site to use HTML5.
For other problems withwith Safari try going to Settins>Safari and clear Histor, Cookies and Data.
Also reset the iPod. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
