Do I really still have to remove all spaces from file names?

My staff made a bunch of videos with Camtasia, and now we're integrating them into a web site. Even though I told them "no spaces"... Now, there are hundreds of files with spaces.
Do I really still need to remove them? I know back in the day the %20 could mess some things up... None of the links will ever be typed in, so they don't have to be user friendly.
If I do need to remove them, does anyone know of a tool that will do it for me?

Because the Camtasia MP4 video files are controlled by an SWF controller, so the file paths in the controller would break.
To make it complaint, we'd have to rename each of the hundreds of videos (the file renamers would work), then open each master file, find the files lost by changed links, and re-produce.
Lots and lots of hours.

I have a folder full of files with filenames that contain LF character (ASCII code 10). I want to use Automator's "Replace Text" funcion to remove these non printing characters from file names. Is there a way to do it?
If automator is not able to do this task, I will take a bash script or applescript solution as well...

Remove Special Character "/" from file name

I'm trying to upload a PDF located on my desktop to a server that won't accept special characters, and the mac path is by default ~/desktop/file ... all those forward slashes read as "special characters" and the file is rejected. I moved the file as high as I could, out of the user folder and onto the HD, but it still contains a "/" as the initial character even there.
How do I get rid of the "/" at the beginning of the file name? Thanks...

You can't; every location where a file can be placed on a disk available to Mac OS X contains a / in the path. Contact the server's operators or move the file to a computer running another OS.

Why do I have to remove all music and videos to sync ringtones?

Hi all,
When I check the "Sync Ringtones" checkbox under my iPhone, I get a message saying "Are you sure you want to sync ringtones? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPhone will be removed."
Whats the deal with that? Do I really have to remove all 16GB of music just to put a new ringtone on??

You are able to sync purchased content from your iDevice to a new computer as long as the comptuer is authorized
To authorize the computer follow these steps
At the topi of the screen next to File- Edit -View, click store then Authorize this computer.
Enter in your appleID email address and password and click authorize
**If you do not see the File Edit View option, At the very top left corner you should see a little square click the square and click show menu bar.
Now that your computer is authorized click the file menu button, then click Devices, then go to your iPhones name and then click Transfer purchases this will allow you to transfer all of your purchased content to the computer
Now if you want to transfer your non purchased content to the computer you can do so if you have wif and the previous computer on the same network as the new computer with home sharing

Remove ALL Images from PDF Export?

I'd like to remove ALL images from a PDF export (Indesign CS6), with the intention of having the smallest file size possible for review. All the images are Photoshop PSDs.
I have created a PDF Preset (PDF 1.7) that omits EPS, PDF and Bitmap.
That covers any PSDs that contain opaque backgrounds, i.e. are considered to be non-transparent. However, any PSDs that do NOT contain such backgrounds still appear in the exported PDF. I assume they are NOT considered to be Bitmaps?!?
I've gone for maximal compression of images (in the Preset) also just to see how small I can get the file, but it's still over a meg, and I'd really like even smaller. I live in a rural part of England where net access is painfully slow, and even a few meg of data takes far too long to upload, not to mention the constant drop-outs. Consider further that my document is likely to grow by several orders of magnitude and hopefully you can see why I'd like to sort this issue out as soon as possible.
I've not done any scripting but assume it would be trivial to hide images with a script. However, I'm not sure how such a script might know how to make visible only the images that were previously hidden by the script. Obviously I would not wish to unhide images that must stay hidden. Maybe some form of image/object tagging, if that's even possible in this product, i.e. tag them "temp hide" on first pass of the script, and so forth.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

@James – to mark the container frames of the nonprinting images by a fill color, you could add the following lines of code in the for loop:

But this approach will add a new problem for images, that only use a portion of the holding graphic frame. Or are only partly visible due to a clipping path or a clipping mask or totally transparent areas due to transparent pixels.
Already colored backgrounds will be recolored…
@Sandee – I see the advantage of the PostScript to Distiller way in this situation, but there are two disadvantages:
1. Live transparency will be flattened (could be no issue in this use case, but you never know).
2. The gray area with the big X will be applied also to parts of the images where no pixels are present (transparent pixels in PhotoShop or TIFF files).
To work around all these issues we need a more complex script that is building a path object around the transparent parts of an image or using an applied clipping path for that purpose and fill that with a gray tint (and maybe with an X).
Here some screen shots to illustrate the problems (with or without using PostScript/Distiller):

I connect my phone to an iMac and I cannot find an option to view and delete all of the Camera Roll images that have already been imported over many months. There are 1,500 images in the camera roll and I want to remove them all.

Open Photos, press the arrow button in the top right corner, tap all the photos you want to delete and press the delete button at the bottom. (You still have to tap all of them; there's no "delete all" button.)

It's easiest to plug it into the computer if you have a lot, and click on the Music tab of the iPhone. Then, either Control-A (Windows) or Command-A (Mac) to select all of the songs then press delete on your keyboard. If you have a few, it is easiest to swipe over the individual songs and press delete.

Removed all members from SysAdmin on SQL 2000

I had a faulty script that unfortunately removed all members from the SysAdmin role. Unfortunately, I cannot reinstall the instance and I only have short windows of opportunity for downtime.
I understand if I can get the database into single user mode and log in I can add a new local account to the database with the sysadmin role, however I can't seem to get logged into the single user mode. It keeps saying "Login failed for user '<MYUSERACCOUNT>'.
Reason: Server is in single user mode. Only one administrator can connect at this time.
I have the SQL agent shut down, I am not running enterprise manager and, as far as I can tell, there are no other admins connecting to the system. I know with newer SQL versions one can limit the single user mode to only accept SQLCMD. Of course, 2000 doesn't
have SQLCMD but has OSQL. Any thoughts on how I can limit the access during this maintenance? I've even tried to remove both named pipes and TCP/IP from the accepted connection types but that didn't seem to make a difference.
Thoughts? Please?

I'm a little rusty on SQL Server 2000. Sorry if this advise is useless.
What account are you using to start the Database Engine. If not networkservice, then connect as that account. Try change the account to a local computer account, and then use that account. The general principal here, is that the account running the database
engine service, can connect.

When I connected my iPhone, it automatically synced right away. I did click on the iPhone button and saw the contents of my iPhone including the Books. When I clicked that 'Books' button. But since the book in question was not on my iPhone, it did not show up in the list so I could not select it like you suggested. Therefore I could not sync that book to my iPhone. Thanks for the help though.
The good news is I did manage to get the book on to my iPhone.
When her book came out for preorder about a year or two ago, I looked for it in the iTunes store and preordered it. About a week after it came out, I found what was basically the same book for a dollar more. ($7.99 and $8.99) I figured there must be something additional (features) in the $8.99 book. So I bought it too. As far as I could tell though, they were exactly the same. So I decided to hide one of them so they would not both show up in my Library. Anyway, I went to my iTunes/iBooks account and managed the hidden books area. I unhid the Demi book and then it showed up in my iCloud to download on my iPhone. Now they are both on my computer so I need to figure out which one is the other one and hide it. So then I can delete it from my computer just have the one that is on my iPhone on both systems. But at least I found a way to get a copy on my iPhone.

No, I haven't.
More seriously though; you're not talking to Apple here, we're fellow users like you. But a quick check of the UK store site does not have the iPod Classic listed, which suggests that Apple have discontinued it.
If that's so, there's probably nothing anyone here can do about it. On the other hand, since all the store's pages appear to be incomplete (if you can get them to load), perhaps you should check again tomorrow to see if any further site updates give you new information.

Ipod 5 wasn't updating new playlists. Removed all music from iPod and ended up with 34 GB of OTHER. How do I remove this without doing a full restore?

iPod 5 was not adding new playlists when synching (plenty of space remained in memory for it). This happened around the time of the new update. I removed all music from the iPod and when I went to resync the selected playlists, my OTHER portion of memory jumped up to 34GB and now there is not enough space on the iPod to put all my music back on.
I've checked the usage of all the apps and photos, etc, it is pretty clear this is because of the music portion only.
Is there anyway of removing this information? Without doing a restore? It is not jailbroken either.

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
