Do i still need my imap email account?

do i still need my imap email account? I have an iCloud account also. Is it just duplicating?
Cheers!
Paul.

Do you mean your MobileMe account? (IMAP is just the connection protocol and other ISPs use it). Your MobileMe has become your iCloud account and if you have this successfully set up and working you can delete the MobileMe account as it won't do anything.
If you have an IMAP account with another address than @me.com or @mac.com you should leave it alone.

  • I have an iPad with IMAP email accounts set up but I can find no "inbox, drafts, trash" folders anywhere, either on my ipad or desktop Mac.  How can I set them up?  They do not show on my MacMail preferences either and I can find no way to add them.

I have an iPad with IMAP email accounts set up but can find no "inbox, drafts, trash" folders for each email account anywhere on my iPad or in Mac Mail.   How can I set them up? I can't find anyway to set them up anywhere.  Thanks

    Hello blu monkey,
I found some resources that I think might help with the visibility of your IMAP email folders on your iPad and Mac.
On your iPad, you may need to follow the steps in this article to make sure your folders are visible:
iOS: If IMAP Mail folders are not visible
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1393
On your Mac, I am not sure if you have the sidebar enabled, but you can enable it using the steps in the article below.  When this is showing, you should see your email account listed near the bottom with a triangle next to it.  When the triangle is pointing down, it should show your folders:
Mail (Mountain Lion): Show or hide the sidebar
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11763
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • How do you set the time period on IMAP email accounts (razr maxx)

    Hi Guys -
Does anyone know how you can set the time period that the stock email will keep the already downloaded messages for IMAP email accounts?
Mine never seems to show more than a couple of days worth at a time. I'd ideally like to be able to see at least 2 weeks worth of messages without needing to download them again!
On other phones I've had there was a setting in the menu, but either I can't find it...or it's not there. I've found the setting for how OFTEN it checks the accounts, but not the setting I am seeking.
    Your help is appreciated!
Best Wishes for the Holiday Season.
    -Rich

Hey Rich.  Once in 'settings,' there should be a "days to sync' under the 'data usage' section.   You don't have that?

  • HT201320 Does my email service provider have to provide the ability for me to create an IMAP email account in order for me to create Sub-folders within Apple Mail?

Hi, Apple Mail provides a function to create sub-folders within my mailbox so that I can group emails of similar subjects or from the same sender. My service provider only provides POP email protocol and the New Folder button does not appear in my Apple Mail account for that service provider. Icloud provides the opportunity for the iPad user to select between POP and IMAP. I can select IMAP and the New Folder button appears allowing me to create sub-folders within the icloud email account. Does this mean I cannot create sub-folders in my email account unless my service provider provides customers with the option of creating an IMAP email account?
This appears to be a problem for quite a few Apple Mail users, but service providers appear reticent to provide a response other than 'use Microsoft Exchange / Hotmail, Google GMail, or some other third party email service provider'. This is why I have chosen icloud as my email service provider. It is Apple and therefore Apple supports it. I have been a Telstra customer for over 15 years and they informed me today, strongly, that they support their own products and services, not Apple products, even though Telstra sell them. When I asked the Telstra Customer Support Manager whether they support Telstra customers, I was informed 'no, because the Telstra customer is not a Telstra product or service'. I have since cancelled my Telstra email account and am in the process of cancelling all of my Telstra services.

Yes. That is what it means. You need an IMAP account in order to create sub folders on the iPad.

  • How can I delete a junk folder I accidentally created in an IMAP email  account

I need to know if anyone knows how to delete a junk folder. I created the folder by accident in a IMAP email account.  It's empty and I don't need it .  I don't want to delete the account and re- install it. Any ideas?

I don't have my iPad set to sync that email account. So my folders are not the same as my IPad. I didn't have the junk folder till I accidentally sent a email to the junk folder and the IPad created a junk folder for that email account. Now there isn't a way to remove the folder, even though it is empty.

  • Not getting emails from my IMAP email account but my 2 POP emails are fine

Hi, I have 3 email accounts on my Iphone, the 2 that are POP accounts work fine, but after the last update I quit getting my IMAP email accounts to my phone, but they still come to my Mail program fine.
    Any thoughts?

I know MS Exchange can be read using IMAP, but it must be configured to do so or it won't work.

  • How to delete an IMAP email account before I give computer to relative?

I plan to give my G4 to a relative and am unable to delete my .Mac IMAP email account from this machine. I have gone to the Mail preferences panel under Accounts. Pressing the minus key apparently deletes this account, but when I restart the computer the account is back listing all messages in my inbox.
I have found a folder with a name beginning with IMAP followed by some version of my name (I don't recall exactly where this folder was). I deleted this folder, but my account is back after a restart.
I still use this email account on another computer that I plan to keep. Can someone tell me what else I have to do to get this active email account off of the machine I plan to give away?
    dual 2.7 M G5 desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Not sure I understand what your problem is. Why don't you just wipe out the entire ~/Library/Mail folder and the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file?
Actually, I don't understand why don't you do an Erase and Install of Mac OS X. Why are you concerned about your mail account only, and not about the rest of your data?

  • N8 and imaps email account

    Hi all.
I have an N8, and I'm trying to configure an imaps email account.
My organization use the imap ssl with a self created certificate for sign the connection. The problem is that in N8 there is no way to say to nokia push servers to use that certificate, and thus during the account creation the configuration fail saying to check the servers name.
Is there any way to have the push mail working?

    there is a messaging forum
    /t5/Messaging-Email-and-Browsing/bd-p/messaging
so the messaging super geeks might be in there
i know what you mean. i have a self signed certificate on my server and can't use NM with this either. fortunately i just drop mine down to regular imap and it's all fine (save the huge problems with NM, and push over imap) i guess you can't do that.
the other option would be to decline the terms of service as you finish setting up the account., this causes the phone to switch back to a regular email client that connects directly with the mail servers rather than via NM.
there is no push option. but email can be set to retrieve on notify. notify being when it is indicated over an imap idle connection. or you can just set it to retrieve every 5 minutes.
you are still going to have certificate issues. but they may be manageable.
There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/setup-pop-imap-email-accounts.html

    Hi
If site plan is web basic then email service would not be included , either you would need to upgrade the site else use external email service.
Using creative cloud subscription sites published will be in web basic site plan,
    For upgrading : http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3161
    For External Email : http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/kb/setup-pop-imap-email-accounts.html#main_How_to_create_ an_external_MX_record
If this is not the case then you can access email accounts section , site settings > email accounts

  • How do I set up imap email account on iPad air 2

How do I set up imap email account on iPad air 2

You do not need to specify the type of account.  If its IMAP, when you add the account it will detect that automatically.
Alternatively, you can enter a fake email address and password when adding the account, and wait for the process to fail, you should then get an option at the top to select between IMAP and POP3
You can then change the details of the account to the correct ones.

  • Virgin imap Email account stops working

    Can anyone help here please?
I have and iPhone 5, no idea if that is relevant, on which I have set up two virgin email accounts using imap settings, what a game that was, and at regular intervals I have a problem with one of the accounts which stops working.
Both email accounts are set up identically, I have checked time and time again, but it is always the same account which stops working with the same error message 'imap4.virgin.net' is not responding. I am raising this with Virgin too but as my other account continues to work fine on the same settings I am not sure the problem sits with them. If I delete the troublesome account then it will work fine for anything up to 3 months, or as little as a week, but then it will happen again, one account downloads emails the other refuses to, and give the error message I have mentioned above.
Has anyone any experience of the problem, and any ideas, or does anyone have a solution, short of binning either the iPhone or Virgin email! Both of those solutions are not practical, but tempting.

here is what I did to resolve the problem.  In Mail/preferences/accounts/account information/ and at the bottom of the box there is a toggle arrow up and down to edit the outgoing mail server, check the box "use only this server" and  hit this toggle button and select "edit SMTP Server List" at the very bottom of the email names.  Be sure to select OK each time to get the passwords to hold!  Some changes won't hold unless you click OK before you move on.
Select Advanced tab.  Correct and/or add usernames and passwords as needed for each email account.  It seems the passwords are not holding.
To test:       Window/activity (a little windows will pop up showing activity bars)   and then "get mail" button.  This should show any problems
    another test:  window/connection doctor
This will fix both pop and imap.  so far it worked on yahoo, mobile me, gmail, hotmail, and others.  Of course, you will need to know the incoming and outgoing mail server info, user name, and passwords.
Too bad we have to go though hoops to use an email program that used to work well.

  • Deleting emails on imap email accounts

    Hi
i have seven imap email accounts.  On my macbook pro I have the usual folders, Inbox, Junk, Trash, Sent etc for each account.  All accounts are on the same server.
When I receive a message to an Inbox and delete it, the message gets placed in the Trash folder ready for deletion.
Now I have replciated these accounts on my iPhone5 and checked that the above folders are named the same for each account.   Howebver on the iPhone, when i delete a message, I am often getting the error message:
    Unable to Move Message
This message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash.
Can someone explain why I am getting these messasges, and more impiortantly, what I need to do to stop getting them and allow the iPhone to delete the message?
    Thanks
    Alex

Here is an item to check:
Look at Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > [your account] > Account > Advanced > Deleted Mailbox.
    *  Does "On My iPhone" on top say "Trash"?
    *  Under "On the Server" lower down, is "Trash" checked?
If either of these is not correct, what do you show instead?

  • I can't set up an imap email account on new ipad.

I went to settings and did everything required to set up my imap email account.  The account won't send or receive emails.  The internet connection is great.  I can set up a Gmail account with no problems, but the imap account won't work.  I had my ISP reset my password, so that isn't a problem.  Any suggestions?

hi problem is, when i start on the first screen - name, email add etc it then goes off and gets the info automatically and sets it up as a POP account - how do i change it to IMAP?
    Thanks

  • Reasons IMAP email account might not show emails?

I'm working with an IMAP email account (provided by Network Solutions) and while Mail seems to be accepting all of the account information (username, login, etc.), nothing is showing up in the inbox.  Outbound works fine, but inbound is empty.  When I check the webmail interface, there is mail in the inbox... it is just not showing up in Apple Mail.
    Any ideas?

I've been having these same symptoms for some time now:
    - Standard IMAP account
    - iPhone Mail / iPad Mail / OSX Sparrow / iPhone Sparrow / Thunderbird / Web interface all see messages in the inbox
    - Apple Mail app does not see any messages
I found a solution that works for me.  Look through all the folders in your IMAP account.  You should have only one INBOX folder, the main one.  If you have any others called "Inbox", move the mail out of them and delete the folders.  Beware that you are deleting the phantom Inbox folders and not the real one.  This solved the issue for me.  For instance I had a folder called "Inbox.Trash" that was separate to the main INBOX folder.
I had to use OSX Sparrow to do this maintenance, I couldn't find any other tool that would give me such control over the folder structure.  Preferences -> Organise -> Folders
    Hope this helps.
    Alex.

  • Deleting IMAP email accounts from iPhone

I can't delete an IMAP email account form my iPhone.  I got to settings > Mail, Conatct, Calendars > select the email account but I don't get the option to delete.  I can only switch off the mail.  Other mail accounts such as Hotmail and iCloud give me the option to delete.
It's a secure server email account.
    Any ideas?

    settings < general < profiles
might be able to delete from there.
