Do I uninstall the old version?

I updated to LR 4.2 some time ago. LR 3.6 is still installed on my computer - Do I now uninstall LR 3.6 or will this cause problems?

Each version of Lightroom, even dot releases, is a complete installation of Lightroom. On Windows computers, dot releases will replace each other. But Lightroom 3 is completely separate. If you are no longer using it and have no need for it then it is completely safe for you to remove it. You can also get rid of any associated catalogs and preview folders because they will not be used by Lightroom 4 either.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

How can I fix this "Adobe two-version" problem, so only the latest version stays enabled, the old version stays DISABLED, and/or uninstall the old version?

I went to my add-ons tab, and I DO, in fact, have two versions of shockwave flash, an 11.9...version, and a 13.9..., which, if I'm not mistaken, is the latest version. There is a "ask to activate, always activate, never activate" button for EVERY add-on. I clicked never activate on the older version, and closed the tab. I then tried to play a video off of the Web. It would not play, I tried another site with the same result, so I went back to my add-on tab, and the button for the older version had changed back to "always activate" by itself. It continues to repeat this, and WILL NOT stay on "never activate". Every few times I return to the add-ons page, THE NEW VERSION IS DISABLED, AS WELL AS THE OLD ONE. I've tried to uninstall the old version, but when I go through control panel, and bring up the folder contents, the old version isn't even there! I've done start, find, and typed in "Adobe", and the old version is NOT FOUND! Both versions keep changing back and forth on the activate button, and they both will disable on their own, no matter how many times I fix it! smh!!

@jscher2000: Didn't mean to lose contact. I still don't have my playback problem solved, if you can believe that. I've downloaded the uninstaller / installer links with someones help that's on this forum, used them in the exact same order. It did nothing to help. However, I was in the process of attempting your solution. I made sure all browsers were closed; in fact, I went offline before this procedure. When I used find, and typed in Shockwave, it came back..."no search results". I recalled a path I had previously used, and had to use it instead of find, C:/ Acer/ Windows/SysWOW64/ Macromed/ and here there were files for Shockwave AND Flash. I opened Shockwave, says " this folder is empty". Flash Player and Flash Util plugin, Util32 Active X, NPSWF32_13_0_0_214.dll...all files appear correct, BUT why aren't there ANY files in the Shockwave folder? NONE of the buttons you describe in your steps to let Firefox "clean up" the pluginreg.dat file show in my window...if I am in the right window. My username is at the top, and it's drop-down is "3 button"+sign out. One says settings, but it doesn't take me to any "help", Trobleshooting info, "show folder", nor any way to exit Firefox or to start it back up. Settings goes to "edit settings", and has a list of checkboxes...all with something to do with threads in one aspect or another, and one concerning private messages. Sounds to me like I don't know what I'm doing, am on entirely the wrong Mozilla /Firefox page, and I'm NEVER, EVER going to get this damn video playback crap fixed once and for all. Some sites will let a video play, but they are rare. Vikings.com is the one that has me red-faced. NOTHING plays there. Except ads, of course. You can't get those to STOP.

Can I delete or uninstall the old version of Firefox left on C: drive when I installed 4.0 on the F: drive to save space and not lose bookmarks or other info?

Wanted to save space on C: drive and installed Firefox 4.0 on the F: drive. The new install did not delete the files of the older Firefox version in the C: drive. Is the 4.0 version in F: drive using any of the files left on the C: drive? Can I delete or uninstall the old version with out losing bookmarks or other vital information? I want to get the space back for the C: drive but don't want a big headache. When comparing file trees from the new install and the old, there were allot more files in the old and it made me afraid to delete or uninstall the old version.

The version on the C drive can be deleted, it will not be used. The bookmarks, along with other user data, is stored in the profile folder which is in a different location than the application - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
There are more files in the old version, many of the files in the new version are placed inside omni.jar which is a compressed file.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Lightroom 5 & 6/CC both are individual applications and can be installed simultaneously, unless you don't need them.
So, in short the answer is Yes you can uninstall the old version in case you don't need it.

I cant install the new version. Everytime i tried to process the program it asks me restart my laptop.

Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).<br />
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I am about to purchase and install ID4. The previous user had installed ID3. Do I need to remove/uninstall that version first, before I install ID4?

Anything special I need to know about bringing older ID3 files in to ID4? Does ID4 "convert" the files to the newer version?
If so, does that mean that they can never be saved again as ID3 files? There is nothing I can do to work my files in ID4, but save them as ID3 files so someone else can open them? We do have a couple three other machines that still have ID3. We cant afford to upgrade all machines to ID4. We can definitely do one copy of ID4, with luck the other person can buy a second copy of ID4, but after that the remaining machines are stuck with ID3.

If you are not using the previous version products, they you may uninstall them manually from your computer, installing newer version will not remove previous version from your computer.

My PC will not uninstall the old version of iTunes.

While attempting to install itunes version 9 I receive the error message cannot remove older version of itunes. Then it rolls back the install and I cannot use itunes. I have attempted to remove all traces of itunes from my computer, including the registry. ALl that has done is make itunes hang up during install. I am using MS windows XP home edition with SP 3. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Okay ... well we'd better try the following technique anyway. (You don't explicitly mention having tried it yet.)
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:

Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Installer CleanUp"). In the list of programs that show up in CleanUp, select any "iTunes" entries, and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, reboot the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through any better this time?
