Do I want to sync with Outlook or Windows address book?

I currently have all of my contacts in outlook, but I never use outlook at all.
Is there anything in iTunes that allows you to save and sync your contacts?
Or do you always have to use outlook?
Whats this Windows address book?
Perhaps that might work better for me since I am not going to be using outlook?

With Windows, the supported applications for syncing contact information is Outlook 2003 or 2007, or the Windows Address Book or Windows Contacts - which is the address book used by Outlook Express with XP, and with Windows Mail with Vista - which is the name change for Outlook Express with Vista.
Is there anything in iTunes that allows you to save and sync your contacts?
iTunes serves as the conduit only for syncing contact information between your iPhone and the supported application on your computer.

Your suggestion worked perfectly.  I can't believe there is nothing in any of the instructions I have seen online at the Yahoo and Apple help sites about the making sure the right default account is checked.  I don't think I was even aware there was a "default account" setting.  Thank you so much.

  • Sync with Google missing in Address Book

    Hi there,
My friend purchased Android phone and wants to sync it with iMac Address Book. Procedure is to sync it with GMail account and then it automatically syncs it with a phone.
Sync utility in Address Book is found under PREFERENCES > SYNC WITH GOOGLE. However it is not there! It is there on my 3 iMacs and laptop but it is not there in his iMac. We run update and it picked up Java and some other update but still no that utility. OS X is version 10.5.8 and as I said is all up to date.
How to get that utility so it exists in Address Book?
    Thank you,
    Zack

I think yes, probably using pacifist to extract address book from the original disc, then you'd need to update it.
I haven't tried this so maybe another contributor can help with the procedure.

  • Iphone no sync with itunes 7.6 & address book or calendar

iphone 1.1.3 will not sync with itunes 7.6 and address book, or calendar.
iphone will not sync to any of the mac I have, it will start to sync when I choose address, calendar, etc, and quit in a few seconds, with no sync.
I tried all the recommendations, and as well re-installing clean itunes. Some folks attributed this to the latest Mac OS 10.5.2 upgrade. In any case, anybody could help please, the frustration level is all time high.
    Thanks, Gabriel

yes it is, if you go to www.iphoneatlas.com/ among other search on google, you will find that there are a lot of folks with the same problem, if you go to macnn web site, as well there are comments.
I restored the iphone, re-installed itunes more than a couple of times, use two different macs, different cables. Follow the recommendations on this site and others. Nothing seems to work. Therefore I assumed that there is something on the upgrade 10.5.2 that screw up the sync. That is the feeling of the rest of the folks that have the same issue and comments on macnn and iphoneatlas.
    Thanks for responding, Gabriel

  • ICloud control panel not syncing with outlook 2013

I have installed iCloud on windows 7 64-bit. after installation it asked if I want to sync with outlook my mail , contacts etc. so I selected the option to sync and clicked apply.
The program said that it needs to setup mail, contacts etc with outlook 2013 and the loading gif started to work , then I click on close .
when I open outlook 2013 i do not see my icloud folder or contacts .
    am I missing something here?
PS. I tried to uninstall and re install icloud control panel with the same effect.
    Kindly can anyone help

In Outlook 2013, I navigated to "People" and copied the contacts that I wanted to sync from the "Contacts" folder to the "Search Results" folder (<ctrl>+[drag and drop] to folder in left hand Folder pane).
iTunes then synchronised those contacts (only) fine.

  • ICal not syncing with Outlook correctly - Help needed

    Hi there,
I have just bought an iPhone 4S (last week), and I've decided to set up iCloud so that it syncs my calendars and contacts between my phone, my iMac, and my Macbook.
I am running Outlook Home 2011 for Mac, and I have it working so that iCal and Address Book can read contacts and calendar entries from Outlook, but for some reason it won't work in return.
I want to be able to update something on my phone, that to in turn update my iCal/Address Book on my macs, and that in turn to update Outlook. That is the only step I can't seem to get working. My phone will update iCal, but it won't then push that update to Outlook for some reason.
Any ideas why this would be? As I say, I can create an event in Outlook and almost immediately view it on my phone, but when creating an event on my phone, nothing shows up in Outlook?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

    Hi thomohawk85
If your Office 2011 is under warranty just call teh Microsoft Support desk.  During a 45 minute call they explained tha there were problems with set up that MS are now getting a handle on and took me through routines (involving multiple reboots andd deletions of pst file etc) whih result now in perfect sync between Outlook and iCal/Address Book.  One caveat - I cannot now use iCloud as this creates an alternative iCal/Address Book account and will delete any entries in Outlook.

  • Syncing with Outlook is reversing first and last name

In Outlook 2007 when I add a new contact and type in the full name (say John Doe) it puts in the full name field "John Doe" and files it as Doe, John. This is how I have always done it and all of my contacts are setup like that.
When I add a contact from my iPhone and sync it with Outlook, it transfers over the data fine but when it inserts the new contact it files it as lastname, firstname (as it should) but also puts lastname, firstname in the "Full Name" Field (ie Doe, John).
Is there any way to have it sync contacts from the iPhone to Outlook and keep the Full name as "Firstname Lastname" instead of inserting it as "Lastname, Firstname". I feel as though I've tried everything in Outlook 2007 that I can think of with no luck.
Normally I would just change Outlook to work the way the iPhone inserts the contacts, but I use Plaxo to sync with my Macbook and Address Book tends to switch the contacts around, back to the way it should be (firstname lastname).
Any help would be a lifesaver! Driving me nuts...
    iPhone   Windows XP Pro

The setting in AB's preferences controls the display order. On a person's card, you can have the contents of the first name field in the database displayed before or after the last name field.
When mail adds an address to the address book data base it uses the information in the From: header. It assumes that text such as "Joe Soap"<[email protected]> consists of first name Joe last name Soap and address [email protected] If however the header appears as "Joe, Soap"<[email protected]> then mail will put Joe in the last name and Soap in the first name fields in the AB database.
Basically, the order of names in the AB database is dependant on how your sender (or their mail program) has formatted the From: header.
    I think.

  • ICloud not syncing with Outlook 2011 using Lion

My problem is bizarre and the more I seem to troubleshoot the worse it gets.  Since I only just bought my MacBook Pro, Lion was already installed.  I had an old MacBook and the transition was seemless until ICloud came along yesterday morning.  I signed up of course, as I knew I would eventually be forced to anyway and transitioned from MeMobile.  Now I have problems.  No sync between my Outlook 2011 and Address Book and ICloud.  I have been trying to find a solution and have tried the following:
    1. Deleted all the contacts in Address Book and reimported them from Outlook.  This worked fine and Address Book synced with ICloud.  However, when I made changes in Outlook, they would not sync with Address Book and thus not sync with ICloud.  The reverse was also true, i.e. changes and additions in ICloud or Address Book do not sync with Outlook.
    2. I shut down my computer and restarted.  Then I reset the sync services.  The result: All my Outlook Categories and Contacts appeared in Address Book along with all the contacts in ICloud.  When I click on all contacts, I get duplicates of course.  The interesting thing though is the contacts in "All on My Mac" tab in Address Book do not match those in ICloud and ICloud won't sync between the two.  So as a result, the problem above persists.  I still do not get any syncing between Outlook and ICloud/Address Book.  (This by the way was the case before I deleted everything from Address Book and imported everthing from Outlook......so I am exactly in the same place I was before I started troubleshooting........going in circles at this point in time).
By the way, everything works fine for e-mails.  However similar problem with ICal which has also doubled up on all info which was in ICloud and Outlook. I had a memobile account previous so ICloud just imported all that info I assume.  Also, everthing works fine between my IPhone and ICloud.  This is clearly an Outlook/Address Book Syncing problem.
    Any suggestions???

iCloud does not use Apple sync services and Outlook for Mac is not compatible with iCloud, but you should be able to get the mail working.

  • PC Companion 2.01, How to sync outlook contacts instead of windows address book

After the first installation of PC Companion the program uses the outlook contacts database to sync my phone. There was no problem.
After some weeks the program uses the windows phone book (wab-file) of outlook express instead of the original outlook 2000 contacts database.
The picture (image1) shows the sync target on my system: In this case the program uses the windows address book instead of the outlook.
I am sure, some weeks ago, I have seen the outlook icon on this place. In the meantime I have installed the media go extensions.
In the settings I can only select windows address book.
In advanced settings of pc companion only outlook express (windows address book) is available.
How can I configure or hack the program to use outlook 2000 contacts database again?
Is there any registry key or settings file?
Uninstall an new install does not help.

  • I use iCal, work wants me to sync with Outlook, how do I do this?

    Dear Community.
I'm happily using iCloud to run my diary across all my Apple devices, how do I get my current setup to sync with Outlook so my office can see my diary?
I don't want to change how I make appt's, I can make an appt on my phone, iPad or MacBook and it'll sync nicely, I just need to be able to share one specific Work diary in my iCloud/ Apple account with Outlook. I use Outlook on my MacBook for email only, I have no interest in using the calendar function other than to keep it synced to allow my colleagues to access it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's bad enough that people want to be able to track my daily schedules, without having to spend hours trying to figure out how to keep the system I have for diary management and not have to move everything just to placate someone.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Crackyrich,
I may have a possible solution for you.  Since you have everything set up in iCloud, have you tried the Calendar sharing feature?  You can create a work calendar to keep it separate from your personal calendar, and share the work calendar privately or publicly.   Here's how:
    iCloud: Calendar sharing overview
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2689
You can share a calendar both publicly and privately with other people. Sharing gives you flexibility in managing calendars. For example, you could create a calendar for your child’s sports team and share it privately with just the coaches so they can edit it. You could also share it publicly with all the parents so they can view (but not change) it whenever they want.
    Sharing works as follows:
Public calendars can be shared with anyone. To access public calendars, visitors need to use Calendar on a Mac, Microsoft Outlook on a Windows computer, or any other app that supports the iCalendar file format.
A public calendar can’t be edited by anyone but the calendar owner (the creator).
Private calendars can be shared with other iCloud users.
Participants can view the calendar using iCloud Calendar; the Calendar app on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or a Mac; or Microsoft Outlook on a Windows computer.
As the owner (creator) of a shared calendar, you assign edit privileges to the invitees to control who can modify the calendar. There are two types of access privileges that can be assigned:
Participants with View Only access can:
View the calendar and change their view (from day to week, for example), without affecting the view of other participants
    Change their own calendar preferences
Participants with View & Edit access privileges can do everything listed above, plus:
    Create and delete calendar events
Change details (for example, the name, date, and time) for calendar events
Track the responses of guests invited to a calendar event
Participants can’t invite new people to a shared calendar.
Note:    If multiple participants try to edit a shared calendar at the same time, the changes that are saved first are kept and reflected in the calendar. The person whose changes arenʼt saved sees a message that his or her changes werenʼt saved.
If you disable your iCloud account, any shared calendars you created become unavailable; all participants automatically receive an email notifying them that the calendar is no longer shared.

iCloud: Share a calendar with others
You can share a calendar both publicly and privately with other people. For specifics about viewing and editing privileges for shared calendars, and how participants can access the calendars, see Calendar sharing overview.
    Share a calendar privately
Click the Share button to the right of the calendar name in the sidebar, then select Private Calendar.
Note:    You can also share the same calendar publicly. For instructions, see the next task, “Share a calendar publicly.”
Type the invitee’s email address in the Add Person field and press Return.
Click the pop-up menu with the invitee’s name and choose access privileges (View & Edit or View Only).
For each person you want to share the calendar with, repeat steps 2 and 3.
When you’ve invited everyone and set their privileges, click OK.
Invitation emails are sent from your iCloud email address to the participants you specified.
    Share a calendar publicly
Click the Share button to the right of the calendar you want to share, then select Public Calendar.
Note:    You can also share the same calendar privately. For instructions, see the previous task, “Share a calendar privately.”
To invite people to view the calendar, click Email Link.
Type one or more email addresses in the To field, then click Send.
The people you specify automatically receive an invitation email that includes the calendar’s URL. An invitee doesn’t need to be an iCloud user to accept an invitation to view a shared public calendar.
In the sidebar, a shared calendar has a dark Share button.
You can also resend invitations to one or more invited participants at any time.

  • HT1296 I want to sync my Outlook contacts on my pc with my iPad3. How do I do that?

I want to sync my Outlook contacts on my pc with my iPad3. How do I do that?

Have you synced your iPad with iTunes - have you transferred anything from your computer to your iPad such as music, movies, tv shows, and photos?
If so, how did you do that?
The Info tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes is where the Movies, TV Shows, Photos, and the other tabs for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes are located.

  • Pearl 8110 will not sync with Outlook Calendar

I have a Blackberry Pearl 8110, and I upgraded the Desktop Manager, then it quit syncing with outlook calendar.  It does sync with noes, memos, addresses, but no calendar.  when the sync is getting to the calendar it says "please wait" then just kicks me out.  No error message in the log, nothing.  I even retrograded back to 4.7.0.17, but no changed.  Here is what else I have:
    Blackberry 4.5.0 Core Applications 4.5.0
    Blackberry 4.5.0 System Software Properties
    Blackberry MDS runtime Properties 4.5.0.20
The calendar is the big thing for me.  Any Ideas??
    Thanks

I just wanted to let you know that I'm having the same problem with my 8120 and it started on the 18th.  I spent 3 hours, 39 minutes, and 42 seconds on the phone with BB support yesterday with no luck and we tried every trick they could think of.  I'll certainly let you know if I find any information since I too can't live without my calendar.

  • How can I get iCloud to sync with Outlook 2011 calendars??

Recently got a new MBA11 and use an iPhone and rely heavily on Outlook. All I want to do is be able to sync my calendars and contacts across devices. When I used to be on Windows I could simply do this with Google Calendars and Google sync.
Outlook 2011 isn't or doesn't support syncing with google (not sure who's fault this is).
I thought iCloud would fix this however iCloud creates new calendars in iCal that won't sync with Outlook.
Does anyone know a work around?
Personally I would have thought this kind of thing would be simple, easy and a necessary function whether it be on google, apple or microsofts part!!

Microsoft have not made Outlook for Mac compatible with iCloud since they haven't bothered to include support for the industry standard CalDAV and CardDAV protocols iCloud uses.
    See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2648915
Apple cannot do anything to rectify this, as they don't make Microsoft Office. It is in Microsoft's hands.
It wasn't necessary to buy Office for Mac to sync with iCloud. All Macs come with all the applications required for syncing with iCloud for free.
Use Apple's Mail, Address Book and iCal.
