Do iPods play MP3 at 64 bitrate or only AAC files????

I still can't get this thing to work but hopefully it will be working soon, but my question is will iPods play 64 bitrate songs or does apple make you convert the files to acc itune files??? If so can you compress acc files to make them smaller so you can put more songs in your shuffle?

Apple says the shuffle will play the folowing files:
MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store, M4A, M4B, M4P), Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4) and WAV
So, yes, it should play your files. iTunes will encode both mp3 and AAC files as low as 16 kbps, so you should be able to compress them. (I haven't tried it, though.) I would personally perform that compression on the source, instead of recompressing an already compressed file, though.
Good luck

  • How to block Firefox from playing mp3 and allow me to save the file

I have upgraded to Firefox v28. I want to save a mp3 file for playing later like previous versions of Firefox. When I click the file it starts playing and does not give me the option to save the file.
In Options the 'application' settings for file type MP3 is set to 'save file'. The quicktime plugin is disabled.
The media.windows-media-foundation.enabled is set to false in about:config
How can I restore Firefox behavior to be like the old versions
    Thanks

Try to set the Boolean pref <b>media.directshow.enabled</b> to <i>false</i> as well on the <b>about:config</b> page.
You can also set the browser.altClickSave pref to true and hold down the Alt key when you left-click an MP3 link.

Unfortunately, NONE of my friends use Windows anymore , even at work we use Linux for security reasons. So what am i supposed to do now... They have a link at Creative that makes you belei've that they support Linux and offer you the possibility to choose the operating system, in other words=Linux. When i told in a mail to Creative Norway that they offer Linux support at their download-site, they actualy had the nerve to tell me that they don't do that!! I told them to remove the choice if they don't offer it, and don't try to tell people that they are eighter blind or stupid, and i pasted the Link + added a Screenshot of the page into the mail!! I realy got upset. It is the last time i by something from Creative. My first player from Creative lasted exactly 2 weeks, after that he stopped working for one odd reason, so i paid a little more in order to get a better one in exchange, and that device didn't li've longer than month eighter?
Not exactly QUALITY we are talking about..aren't we?
What to do, what to do?
    Anyone has a clue?

  • Help!!! - Protected AAC files do not play on any of my iPods

Since ten days ago both my iPods (Video 60GB and Photo 40GB) are not capable anymore to play iTMS purchased music. The music plays fine on iTunes (Windows, last version), is correctly copied on both the iPods (both updated to the last version of iPod software) but when I try to play any of the Protected AAC file kind the iPods just shows the Cover and skips to the next songs.
The bad thing is that is happening on any Protected AAC file i try to play on any of the iPods and we are talking about 527 songs, for a total more than 500 euros. THAT'S BAD!!!
I've tryed everything, re-flashed the iPods with the last iPod Updater (any hint on where to find the 2005 version?), reinstalled iTunes on both the PCs I've at home, deauthorized and re-authorized the iTMS account, deleted all the music from the iPod and loaded back again, no light at all...
I've contacted the iTMS support, they have deauthorized all my PCs, I've authorized them back but nothing. After four email they passed me to the Tech iPod support.
I've called them, on the Video I've also the AppleCare, we tryed everything, also formatting the iPod via the Operating System, but no luck.
At the end they have said that is a problem with the FairPlay authorization and brought me back to the iTMS support.
I wrote them again, explaining all the situation and giving them the SR number and this is what I got as an answer:
"have escalated the issue you reported, and you will receive an email message once we have a resolution. Thank you for your patience as we work to make your experience with the iTunes Music Store more enjoyable."
No timeline, no explanation at all.
Obviusly all the other functionalities of the iPods are working fine and all the Protected AAC files plays fine on iTunes, but nothing on the iPods.
I've also tryed to buy a couple on new songs from iTunes but also these do not play on any of the iPods.
From the tech support side, seems I'm the only one to have this problem in the world. From my point of view this could be a FairPlay keys problem but the result is that I cannot play any of the music I've bought.
Does anybody had this kind of problem or some hints to save the day?

    Have an happy life.
    MB from Italy

Nobody replyed to my message but I think that knowing the solution can be helpful for someone in the future.
    I've made some extensive testing.
To me the problem has appeared when I've update both the iPod to the last iPod software version, 1.1.1 for the Video and 1.2.1 for the Photo.
At that time I was using the iTunes for Windows version 6.0.4
Thanks to the hint of a user on the iLounge forum (www.ilounge.com), the problem was related to the versions combination between iTunes for Windows and the iPod Software.
Today I've tried all the version of iTunes form the 6.0.0 to the 6.0.4 (thanks to File Hippo) and the only one that works is the 6.0.0
The problem seems solved on both the iPods, obviously I've notified Apple of the temporary solution and I really hope that someone will take care of this one.

  • PrObLeM WiTh IpOd pLaYiNg ViDeOs WiTh No SoUnD!! HELP ME!!

i have a ipod nano 8gb 3rd generation i just got a couple of weeks ago. i got it, read the directions, got the latest downloads, loaded itunes, put my music, videos, everything on itunes, and connected my i sync all of my music on mai ipod with no problem. but when i sync my videos onto my ipod....THERE IS NO SOUND!! the videos were previously converted before i synced them on the ipod. PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS PLEASE!!

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...
    http://www.squared5.com/
but there are other applications besides MPEG Streamclip you can try as well.

  • Just updated itunes on a new mac - doesn't want to play mp3s?

Hi everyone, I just picked up a newish g4 tower and am having trouble with itunes.
the os is 10.4.11 and I did the itunes update.
I tried to download a couple songs but mp3's won't register in the library window. I downloaded 2 m4a files and they both play.
does itunes no longer play mp3's?
Or are all the files I download trash? I'm using limewire and have never had this problem with the old itunes. should I switch to a different fileshare service?
I'm afraid to try to transfer my mp3 library from my old g4!
much thanks to anyone with advice! -CM

  • Ipod touch transfers memos as AAC files

    Hi All,
I have an iPhone 3G and a 2nd gen iPod Touch.
Using voice memos and syncing them to iTunes, the iPhone syncs the memos as Apple Lossless files (what I have set as my default import setting) and the iPod Touch always imports it's memos as AAC files.
I am using the same microphone and, I believe both the iPhone and the iPod Touch record the files as WAV files. I have not changed and double checked that the settings were the same, in fact, I did back to back testing and syncing. Weird, right?
I really need the iPod Touch to transfer the files either as WAV, AIFF or Apple Lossless because I am using the files for a documentary.
    Thanks,
    Lydia
Does anyone have a clue as to why it is behaving so strangely.

Voice memo files are recorded as MP4 files (actual extension is m4a). WAV files are not used by Apple. And while you have your CD import preferences set to Apple lossless, I don't believe that this setting is used to handle voice memos.
If you need to convert the voice memo files to another format, there are literally hundreds of programs that can do that for you.

  • What is the highest mp3 bit rate that Ipod plays without disk problems

I have a 60gig iPod. i note that iTunes can encode to mp3 at a bit rate of 192. Can the 60gig iPod play these files without any disk problems. If it can are there any other considerations?

the current ipod (5th gen) specification says...
Audio formats supported: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html
btw the ipod disk isn't the limiting factor, sound files are played from buffer memory, the disk only runs when the buffer needs to be refilled

  • IPod won't play mp3 files

Recently had to reset my iPod & reload iTunes incl my whole library. Now all of the mpeg song files won't play on my 80g iPod. They will xfer but won't play. B4 the reset all of my files played. I would convert them to AAC but i have over 11k songs-- i shouldn't have to as the player supports these files. It has played them all before.
The imports setting on iTunes is already set to convert to AAC but it never physically does it. It has never mattered before.
What settings, resets, changes can I make.

  • [SOLVED] unable to play mp3 or flac files in mpd, .dts files play fine

I had a perfect running mpd setup before I tried to fiddle around with some dependancies to get xbmc-svn to compile without errors. I installed some AUR packages (ffmpeg-svn, x264-git, libva-sds, libvpx, libid3tag).
After that I started to experience trouble with mpd, it start fine and says it plays audio files just fine but whenever i play a mp3 or flac file the progress bar just looks like it's playing the file but I hear no sound. Whenever I play a .dts file i hear the sound correct.
I'm very curious to why this happends.
I rolled back the packages mentioned above but the issue remains unsolved.

  • Problems playing mp3s after installing iTunes 7.1

I installed iTunes 7.1 today. After that, I have problems playing mp3 songs on my iPod (80 GB). The AAC-files play well. The mp3 songs can also be played on iPod via iTunes when its connected to my computer, but when I disconnect from the computer, the mp3 songs starts, and play for about 2 second, and then jumps to the end of the song and stop.
    Very thankful for any help.

that's typically caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)

  • Uploading .wav file from ITunes to IPod as mp3

All the cd's I have added to Itunes are in the .wav format to achieve highest quality for playing on my pc or other external systems. I would like to download these file to my Ipod as MP3, but cannot seem to find a way to download and convert without changing the format in my library before I send the files to the Ipod which would leave me with a library of MP3 files.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated
    Windows XP Pro

I have iTunes set to not update almost all podcasts, because I want the kind of control you're asking for.
To get episodes onto my iPod I drag the ones I want into a playlist that is set to update on the iPod. That way I get exactly the episodes I want, in the order I want them. Essentially, each one of those playlists is radio magazine made out of exactly what I want to listen to, and I don't have to mess with the iPod controls while I'm walking.
