Do it yourself ringtones

I'm trying to create my own ringtone for a new iPhone 4S.  I followed instructions I found on the web, and I imported the tone into iTunes.  I can see it in the "Tones" tab of iTunes.  But after I sync the iPhone, I don't see the new tone in the Ringtones or Alert Tones lists.  Any idea what I need to do so that the new tone will transfer to the iPhone?  Thanks.

Mysterious.  I repeated all the steps today, and now the new ringtone is present on my iPhone.  I'd swear it wasn't there when I tried the same procedure yesterday.  That's for your help.

  • Can't make a ringtone

i bought a song a little over a week ago off itunes and it had the ringtone bell icon next to it. it still has the ringtone icon, but when i click it to try and make a ringtone it says the song can no longer be made into a ringtone. i looked it up again on itunes and it's still available as a ringtone.. so what do i do? because i thinks its ridiculous if i'm expected to buy the song again, make it a ringtone and then buy that ringtone too.

Apple puts a (weak) DRM on most of the songs in the iTunes store (because the music industry tells them to). If you can't figure out a way around this yourself - do you think it's a good idea to go to the Apple forum to ask how to break this DRM?

  • Why can't I get a new ringtone (song) on my iphone 5c ?

Why can't I get a new ringtone (song) on my iphone 5c?

Did you purchase the ringtone or make it yourself by taking an excerpt from a song?
If taking an excerpt from a song, it must be 30 sec or less. Once you get the 30 sec clip, you have to create an AAC version of the clip. Open the folder with the AAC version of the clip and change the file extension to .m4r I believe. Then double click the new file and it will automatically be loaded in the "tones" folder. You can then open the "tones" folder in iTunes and drag it to your iPhone which is connected to iTunes on your computer.

  • I can't seem to drag and drop my ringtones from my tones library to the tones section on my iphone 5.  Does anyone know why or what I can do?

I created some ringtones and managed to get them into the tones section of my library on itunes.  I can see and play them.  However, when I try to drag and drop them into the tones library on my iphone it will let me drag them but not drop them in.  Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks for any help

Email it to yourself, then save the file and then see if you can convert it to MP3.

  • Hide ringtones from the Music Player [S60]

Tired of having your ringtones listed and played together with your music? Here's how you can hide the tones from the Music Player. This is applicable for Symbian phones only (N82, N95, etc.).
WARNING: The advise below involves changing folder attributes and using tools that might easily harm the file system of your phone! If unsure that you can handle the steps, better leave the ringtones be.
Note: Following the advise below will also hide the folder/files from the build-in File Manager.
To prevent a file or folder with ringtones from being listed in the MP3 player:
    1. Get yourself a file manager that allows you to change file/folder attributes. Y-Browser will do the job - http://www.drjukka.com
    2. Create a separate folder and place in it all the ringtones and melodies you want to hide from the player. I recommend using the memory card - this will help you repair the file system in case something goes wrong.
    3. Open the file manager from Step 1 (not the build-in File Manager) and navigate to the folder from Step 2.
    4. Change the attributes of the folder to 'System'. For Y-Browser highlight the folder and choose Options -> Attributes then set 'System' to 'Yes' and press Save.
    5. Exit the file manager and refresh the library of the Music Player. Now the folder/files are not shown in the Music Player/File Manager but are still listed on music file selection dialogs (like 'Ringing tone' option in Contacts).
You can also hide single files by setting their attributes to 'System'. I do not recommend this, though.
Please, have in mind that reverting the folder to non-system might not be possible (N82 + Y-Browser 0.88, for example). If this happens you need to move the files to another folder and then delete and recreate the folder. If you have set up the folder/files on the memory card, use a card reader or 'Mass storage' mode to connect to the computer and reset the attributes from there.

When I plugged my iphone into the computer for the first time i lost all my music and ringtones. Is there a way to get them back without buying them again, or will I have to buy them again.

Download the free app My Contacts Backup and use it to back up the contacts on your device now (it will back them up as an attachment to an email that you send to yourself).  Then restore your device to your most recent backup to see if it will recover your contacts.  If not, if necessary you can open the email and tap the attachment to re-import the contacts you have now back to your device.
If you need to restore to an iCloud backup this has to be done in the initial setup process, which requires you to first erase your device.  If you have any more recent data on your device now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens on your device, and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • Amount OF ringtones allowed at once..??? help

I have 18 right now in my ringtones for my iphone but when i try to add more they dont appear there...is there a certain amount allowed at once?...help??? and can we change the tones for the textmessages as well??..anyone who has info on this please and thanks...

You may well have thought this through, but if not...
Before you hit "send", do you want to be fielding annoyed responses and mail messages from "n" cranky users, where "n" is some chunk of that 2000 users?
As Alex states, a list server is a far more appropriate tool for sending out large volumes of mail.
For best appearances, let folks subscribe and unsubscribe themselves from the mailing lists.
mail is a tool for communicating with a single or with a few users, and it's almost certainly not the appropriate tool for 2000 users - outside of a mailing list server and mechanisms.
That cc is a great way to cause a mail storm (the infamous Jane-Get-Me-Off-This-Thing messages. Worse, that cc can expose 2000 users to each other and to any malware on any of those 2000 clients that happens to scan the address book and then spam folks. qv: cranky users.
Even if you use the bcc here, you'll still get feedback from "n" cranky users.
And you'll be managing the mailing list yourself.
Even if you've received approval from 2000 users to send out that email (see "let them register themselves"), some are still going to consider the messages to be spam. And correctly or not, they'll get cranky. With you. And if enough of them decide to blacklist your site via Spamcop or such, then little of any of your mail to any users will get through.
Also worth the effort here would be an investigation of other information delivery tools and of broadcast tools that might be available to address your (unstated) requirements, and to determine how to best get your information distributed. Whether that's RSS or other updates, or something specific to a GUI or tool or applications used by your target users, or otherwise.
And FWIW, blast-mail is a surprisingly effective tool for hiding information, too.

  • Song doesn't show I can buy ringtone.

    Hi!
I downloaded a song that I wanted as a ringtone and when I go to my library and find the song it doesn't say that I can use it as a ring tone (the little bell isn't there). Am I doing something wrong or can anyone give me some advice on how to do the ringtone thing? Thanks!

If you're using a Mac and have GarageBand you can do it yourself. Just import a song from itunes to garageband and, from there, edit the song as you would in the itunes store. Here's the link to the page that I found on how to do it.
    http://lifehacker.com/software/how-to/create-custom-iphone-ringtones-the-free-an d-apple-way-334073.php
The difference I've noticed between the one that I bought from itunes and the ones I've made through garageband is that garageband seems to automatically adjust the equalizer levels to a better setting for the iphone speaker, I guess mainly the bass. The ones I've made sound clear as a bell but DON'T sound like they're about to shatter that tiny little speaker with overdriven bass like the one I purchased (the original iphone ad song, 'Perfect Timing' by Orba Squara).

  • How can i change the ringtone?

How can I change the ringtone to others such as my music but not the default ringtones? I'm using Iphone 3GS.

You need to have ringtones made specifically for the iPhone. You can make them yourself with iTunes, or if you are a Mac user, you can make them with Garageband. There are ways to make them with Windows, but you would have to Google that to get answers. We cannot post that information here. Once you have made them and add them to iTunes, you can sync them to the phone and select them on the iPhone itself. You cannot change the notifications for mail or text to personalized ringtones. Just for information.

  • How to add specific ringtone in messages os x

i remember in mountain lion you could do this because I have a made iphone ringtone.. I forgot how to do it now and can't find how.
Does anyone know how to put a specific ringtone, made yourself into the Messages app for OS X?

    Hi,
Messages 8 in Mavericks is less able to do this than Messagers 7 and iChat versions.
However one sound can be changed.
That is the one for "Message Received"
The setting is in Messages > Preference > General Section (There is no Alerts pane now)
The default is the iChat sound for Messages Received.
It can be changed to any System Sound (they appear in the drop down) and anything stored in your ~/Library/Sounds folder.
To access this folder you have to use the Finder > Go Menu and Hold down the ALT key to see then select the Library.
    Navigate to Sounds after that.
All the other iChat/Messages 7 sounds are in the app and linked to their default functions.
So you have A/V invites, File transfers sent, File Transfers Received, Buddy Available and so on.
You can't turn these Off in the app like you could before.
And some don't seem to play even though present such as a Buddy going Off line.

  • How can i make a song a ringtone, how can i make a song a ringtone?

Can someone please help me how can I make my converted m4 songs into a ringtone.
Also, how can i review and validate my account without entering any credit card

There are many apps in the App Store, which you can download (many are free) that will let you take a song on your phone and turn it into a ringtone.  Virtually all of them will require that once you've made the clip, you do something like email it to yourself, then connect your phone to your computer, save it iTunes, then sync it to your ringtones library on your phone.  Go to the App Store and type in Ringtone.  Lot's of options will appear.

  • I downloaded a ringtone, but it is stored in songs.  Can I move it to ringtones to set as default?

I downloaded a ringtone, but it is stored in songs.  Can I move it to ringtones to set as default?

I don't know what happened that the ringtone didn't go in the proper directory, but a ringtone is simply a short song. The distinguishing characteristics of a ringtone are that they are short (<30 seconds), AAC-formated music, with a file-suffix '.m4r'. If the ringtone's filename ends with '.m4a' or '.mp4', then that's probably why it went into the wrong folder (though, if you bought the ringtone in iTunes, that shouldn't happen). Anyway, the fix is simple.
Plug in your phone and start iTunes.
Drag the ringtone to the from iTunes to the Desktop.
If you can't see the file extension, show it (on Windows you need to change the view settings, on a Mac you select the file and do Get Info on it and uncheck the 'Hide Extension' box in the file info panel).
Change the file extension to '.m4r'.
Drag the file back into iTunes (onto the phone icon in the sidebar).
    That's it.
Incidentally, there's nothing special about the ringtone format. You can capture sound, or edit tracks in GarageBand or QuickTime, save them as MP4 audio, and alter the file suffix and you have yourself a ringtone.

  • Ringtone not "authorized" to sync

I just bought a song from itunes and then i created a ringtone but it would not sync to my iphone. Does anyone have any tips? the error message i recieved was ""song name" was not copied to the iphone "my iphone" because you are not authorized to play it on this computer".

If your downloading ringers from Itunes AND then creating ringtunes im guessing via another program. Why dont u just skip step 1 and save yourself money as well. Google "IRinger". Its a program that exports any song on to your computer to Itunes and enables you to sync it onto your phone. It even opens up a custom ringer box in the settings of your Iphone. You can alos cut the song to start and stop whenever you want to. Saves alot more time and put a couple extra bucks back into your pocket!

  • Bluetooth Ringtones & Web Access

Couple of questions.  First of all - how do you close out of the web.  It seems like if I leave the web, I'm still connected (seeing the green v's over the power bars).  Also, how do I manage my files on the centro - have the app to manage the files on my card but can't seem to access things on my centro.  Am wanting to bluetooth a ringtone to my husband's cell and don't know where to go to do that.  Thanks for your help.

If you are using ATT Internet access on the phone, you don't need to do anything to close the web link. It will go dormant on its own. You dont get charged for duration of attachment these days.
Managing files - I use the freeware Filez but this may be a little deep for your needs. Basic file management is done in the Launcher (what you see when you hit the home key). Use the menu items Delete, Beam, Send, Category etc to operate on the software in your centro.
For beaming a ringtone over BT, try this: Open Sounds from the Launcher. Cliuck the Manage... button. Now you can choose any ringtone to Send. The send options include Bluetooth. BEfore you go here, you should pair the other phone with your Centro - otherwise they will not be able to 'see' each other.
To pair with another phone, you need to make the other phone visible over Bluetooth - see the manual for the other phone if you dont know how to do this. Then use Bluetooth app on Centro to pair with this phone. There is no guarantee that the other phone will be capable of excahnging files in this way with Centro. Also it may not share the ringer formats of the Centro - the built in tones are mainly MIDI files in the MID format. Tones you record yourself on the phone are AMR files.

  • Save as ringtone from outside program on pc

I get  a message with my ringtone on it and even when I go to messaging there is no "save as ringtone" option anywhere! It is from Ringtone Studio where I make my own. It will go to my phone as a  text message but I cannot find a way to save it as a ringtone. Very annoying as I have some great favorites! Please help

Did you try tapping on an open space around/outside/in-between the message boxes/bubbles? This is what brings up an option for me, I think, to use text attachments as ringtones. Did you try emailing the ringtone to yourself, or otherwise dropping it into your music folder in one way or another? When you play the thing that you want to use as a ringtone, click on the dedicated menu button and I think it should offer you an option to save as a ringtone (or offer you an option to select options and then give you the option to save as a ringtone...). Sorry if this does not work. I am just trying to be helpful and trying to remember how I got it to work...
