Do Leopard && Aiport support WPA ?

Hi All ,
I would like to know whether WPA feature (Wi-Fi Protected Access ) has been supported by both wireless network adaptor (Airport) in the MacBook Black and Leopard (OS version - 10.5.2).
I have a NETGEAR WPN824 router and would like enable WPA-PSK option to secure my wireless network .
How about Windows XP Professional home edition ..does it support WPA ?.
Thanks,
Nelson

WPA is supported by both the MacBook and Leopard.
WPA is supported on PCs running Windows XP Pro as long as (a) Windows XP Service Pack 2 has been installed and (b) the software drivers for the PC's wireless network interface supports WPA.

  • Does orig. Airport card support WPA/WPA2?

Can a Mac equipped with an original Airport card (802.11b) connect to a WPA- or WPA2-protected network via a third-party router? (Any router — my question doesn't concern a particular router, but is more general in nature.) If so, are there minimum OS or other software version requirements for WPA/WPA2 support with the old card? Is there an Apple article that specifies the relevant requirements and procedures? My repeated searches for one have been fruitless, and this question comes up regularly in some forums I monitor daily where I'd like to be able to answer it confidently.

A Mac equipped with an original Airport card supports only WPA, not WPA2.
Verification of the fact that the original Airport card supports WPA is found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107795
A Mac equipped with an Airport Extreme card (or newer) is required for WPA2 support.
I don't know of a Knowledgebase article that specifically states an Airport Extreme card is required for WPA2 support. However, that requirement is clearly stated in the older versions of Airport update software that added WPA2 support to OS X. See for example:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport42formacosx1033.html

I will buy a new wlan adapter..... for my toshiba satelite pro m 30.
myone only supports wep and 11 mbits and i need a faster one that supports wpa and 54 mbits.
whisch wlan adapter is the right one?
i read in forums, that ist a little bit complicated because of the bios, chipset and the connectors.....
could anybody tell me which card is ok?
    thanks

    Hello Michi
It is not easy to give you any precise info but if your notebook has Intel Centrino mobile technology you can use Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG LAN Mini PCI adaptor. I have the same WLAN card and can use WPA and 54mbits data transfer speed.
If you want to be sure try to contact service partner in your country. They should know this for sure.

  • Is Airport "Snow" base upgradable to support WPA?

Hi. I was just curious can the Airport "Snow" base station be upgradable to support WPA or am I stuck with WEP? Thanks.

WC, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sorry, but the snow AirPort base station (ABS) only does WEP.

  • Does WiFi adapter supports WPA-PSK encryption on Equium A100-147?

I've decided to buy an Equium A100-147, but I'd like confirmation that the WiFi adapter supports WPA-PSK encryption. I can't find any confirmation anywhere. My guess is that it does, as it's a recent machine, but I'd like to be sure.
    Thanks once again.

    Hi
Im not 100% sure what WLan card was installed on this unit but I think it could be a Intel Wireless 3945ABG card.
The Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card supports WPA, WPA2, WPA-PSK encryption. I have found this info on the Intel site. You should also check it.
But as I said above, Im not 100% sure about the Wlan card. In my knowledge many notebook series are delivered with different hardware configuration. That means that different Wlan cards can be used in notebook.

    Thank you.

What WLan card was installed in your notebook?
You can check this in the device manager.
Then simply Google for this WLan card or visit the WLan card manufacture info site!

  • FCSS1 and Leopard - apple supported!

Contrary to an earlier post by someone, if you look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307092
it is clearly stated that whilst FCP 4 (and earlier) is not supported FCS1 and FCS2 are!
Final Cut Pro 4: Not supported on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
    Issue
Final Cut Pro 4 and earlier versions are not supported on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and later are supported on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
The current version of Final Cut Pro is included with Final Cut Studio. You can learn more at the Final Cut Studio product pages.

That's good to know, but you should ask the Hosts to change your thread title.
FCS1 included FCP 5, not 5.1. The version of Studio that included FCP 5.1 was named Final Cut Studio 5.1. Confusing, but true.
Also, FCS1 was actually named Final Cut Studio, not Final Cut Studio 1.

  • Hacking Leopard to support the Olympus E-3

A while back, I tried this hack in an attempt to trick Aperture into supporting my Olympus E-3. I added the following line to Raw.plist:
    <key>Olympus E-3</key> <string>Olympus E-510</string>
updated the hash in CodeResources, restarted the machine, and hoped for the best. The result was that E-3 ORFs displayed as gray squares in Aperture.
The missing step was to use Adobe DNG Converter to convert the ORFs to DNGs. Once I did that, the images rendered just fine in Aperture.
I'm still disgusted that I had to resort to this nonsense to display the images from my camera.
    Cheers,
    Andreas

I stumbled across this thread and understand how you guys feel about cameras not being supported within aperture. For so long we waited for Leica M8 & DMR support only to find the M8 support did not match the colour matrix values in the camera. There is still no DMR support but with the introduction of Leopard Apple finally fixed the matrix values for the M8. We have the DMR working in aperture but we have to reduce the 16bit files to 14bits before it would work.
Anyway I've downloaded a E-3 file from the web, and run it through exiftool to get the matrix values and coded up a raw.plist entry for the E-3. Seeing as I don't have E-3 I can't fully gauge the accuracy of the matrix values I've entered but perhaps you'll try them and see how you get on.
Some things you need to do....
1,First thing to do is download PlistEdit Pro, the trial version is fully functional and will get you going. Download it and install it. The raw.plist file is located inside /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle, when you navigate to rawcamera.bundle you'll need to right click it and select show package contents from the drop down menu. You'll then see a window open up with a contents folder, open that and open resources folder and you'll find raw.plist.
    2. You need to make a copy of the raw.plist file in case you make a mess of things. I usually copy it to my desktop.
    3. The raw.plist file in the resources folder is a protected system file and you need to change the permissions on it to allow you to edit and save your changes. To do this right click the raw.plist file and select Get Info from the drop down menu. In the new menu down the bottom you'll see sharing and permissions, you'll need to add your username to the list and change all the permissions of the names to read and write. You may need to click the lock and enter your password to change these settings. I also set the open with to use PlistEdit Pro here. Close this Info menu and re-boot your Mac.
    4. Go back to the raw.plist as you did in section 1. and double click it and it should open in PlistEdit Pro. Then in the PlistEdit Pro window there are 2 panes, we are going to work in the bottom window, I suggest you maximise the application and drag the window bar up to give yourself as much room as possible. If you scan down the entries you will notice the various camera entries start with a <key>Camera Name</key> and end with a </dict> entry. You need to find a </dict> click your mouse after it and press the enter key. This will insert a blank line into which you paste the text from the bottom of this post. Remove any blank lines before and after your paste. Save the raw.plist and close PlistEdit Pro.
    5. Leopard uses a checksum to validate all system files and make sure they have not been damaged by malware. We need to change the checksum for the edited raw.plist file.
Back in the contents folder of the RawCamera.bundle you'll see CodeResources, right clic that and open with PlistEdit Pro. Click the files triangle and you'll see an entry for Resources/Raw.plist and in the value column there is a 20 digit check sum. We need to update this value. Open a treminal window and type the following openssl dgst -sha1 /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle/Contents/Resources/Raw.plist and press enter, this will return a new checksum for the raw.plist file. Cut and paste this value into the value column for the raw.plist entry in the top window section. Save and close the CodeResources file. Reboot your mac once again.
    6. Use Adobe's camera raw to batch process your ORF's to DNG's before importing into Aperture. The options for compression and jpeg preview should be de-selected(not ticked). Then import these converted DNG's into aperture and they should work.
    7. I know it's not a proper fix but at least it will get you up and running. If you do proceed, keep these instructions because every time Apple update the core image services you'll need to re-apply this patch until proper E-3 support is added.
    8. You do this at your own risk, but Enjoy!.
    The raw.plist entry to paste.....

  • Is snow leopard still supported?

About  2 years ago I bought Macmini  server with snow leopard sever installed.
Then in June, 2011 I upgraded to Lion,  which as a serve seemed to offer less capabilities.
I wonder if other users have had similar experiences?

Yes Snow Leopard is stil being supported for security updates, last update occured Oct 16 2012.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222
However Safari 6 didn't come to Snow Leopard, so you should be using Firefox instead.
iTunes 11 is on Snow Leopard.

  • Optional Install in Snow Leopard -- "Pod Support" files -- What are they?

I posted the below in the Snow Leopard Installation forum but got no answer. (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10710170#10710170 ). It was suggested that I post the same question here:
In Snow Leopard, one of the optional files you can install are simply called "iPod Support" files.
    iTunes supports iPods etc.
What are these optional "iPod Support" files?
    Why would someone install them?
P.S. I don't think the "iPod Support" files have anything to do with syncing. If you choose NOT to install the "iPod Support" files during install, you still can sync your iPod with iTunes.
These files are a mystery to me. Does anyone have an answer?

Well I thought this was the right forum to ask the question. My question relates to an OPTION available when you install Snow Leopard.
I don't think the "iPod Support" files have anything to do with syncing. If you choose NOT to install the "iPod Support" files during install, you still can sync your iPod with iTunes.
These files are a mystery to me. I will try the iPod forums.... Maybe someone there knows...

  • Does the iPhone support WPA Enterprise?

    Hi,
I'm really keen to purchase an iPhone when they appear over here in the UK.
We've just rolled out a wireless network here configured to use WPA Enterprise i.e. no WEP. Our baseline config is WPA/TKIP and after that you use EAP-PEAP/MSCHAPV2 or EAP-TTLS/MSCHAP to authenticate using your university userid and password.
When i was configuring our 802.1X network, the one operating system that beat everything else out there hands down was OS X. It didn't matter if it was wired or wireless, OS X just worked. It was a joy to use ... unlike Windoze.
I sort of assumed that as the iPhone had OS X in the middle it would have the same capabilities as the desktop systems. However, I've heard a couple of snippets saying that it only supports WEP. Is that the case?
It would be a major pain in the a**e if it only supported WEP. While I could set up a separate SSID for an iPhone network I'd really really rather not.
Anyone got any info on the iPhones wireless capabilities?
    TIA

  • Does iphone 4 support wpa 2 encryption

I have a new router where thw default is wpa 2.Is this encryption supported on the iphone 4?

    Yes.

  • Does Leopard fully support common file types such as .avi?

I hope so, it shouldn't require plugins to be able to play .avi files in QT or import them into iTunes. Same goes for .wmv and others. Mac needs to widen its supported formats, only for the best of it; and the best for myself.
    Can someone answer the question?

    Thank you very much.
I appreciate direct and helpful answers!
I just wanted to know, because .avi and .wmv for example are very widely used formats, and even though .wmv is a Windows native format, Mac needs to support it natively for the sake of overall efficiency and simplicity of the user's experience.
Good to know that Leopard has expanded that particular set of compatibility!

  • Which client versions will leopard Xserve support

Which client versions of OSX will leopard Xserve and intel server hardware support?
    hal

If the Xserve shipped with Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier, the retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 client will work on it. If the Xserve shipped with Mac OS X 10.5, the system would need to be installed onto an external drive or through FireWire Target Disk mode if possible, and then updated so that the OS version on the drive is newer than the Xserve. If no compatible Mac OS X updater is available, the client version of Mac OS X cannot be used on it.
