Do Macs have worms?

My iMac started getting slower and slower, then programs started crashing, kept getting kernel panics, then it refused to start, wouldn’t install the OSX (that’s the short version, but basically it died). Apple replaced it, but within a week, the same thing started to happen after I reattached my external hard drives. Since I thought there might be something on one of the HDs that was causing the problem, I detached them and trashed whatever I had copied over from them. Didn’t matter. The second computer is now dead, won’t install or reinstall OSX. I’m now using my laptop, but when I tried to copy a couple of files from Time Machine (on one of the ext HDS), it started getting slower, and when I tried to save some of the files to a CD, it wouldn’t burn it. I tried to run Tech Tool Pro on the HD, but the surface scan test locked up and the volume structures test failed. Is it possible that I have a worm on one of the hard drives? I didn’t think Mac had such a thing.

OK, I’ve continued my ongoing research into worms/viruses in Macs and the general consensus seems to be no, worry about something real if you have to, but not that. Which is kind of what I already thought. But it still doesn’t explain what’s going on with my computer(s). This is the third one that started out fine, then began having issues that worsened to the point that the computer no longer functioned. I mean, it’s pretty bad when it won’t even do a clean install of the OSX. Could it be a Lion problem? Or - since things seem to fine until I connect one of my external hard drives or transfer from Time Machine - could there be a corrupted file on one of those that is capable of creating such havoc? It just seems so hard to believe but I can’t think of anything else that could be behind all of this.

What do you mean the PC won't let you transfer the music? Save your entire iTunes folder (this is assuming that you have all your music stored in your iTunes folder) to an external hard drive. Connect that hard drive to your Mac. Copy the iTunes folder to your computer. Hold down the option key while launching iTunes on your Mac. Select the library you just copied when it ask you to select which library you want to open.

Thanks for the reply. I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long. After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix. I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

Second you do not have "an iPhoto" - iPhoto is an application that manages photos - the photos are stored (by default) in the iPhoto library in a SQL lite database and you use the iPhoto program to manage them

can you please explain this in some detail. When you launch iPhoto by clicking on the iPhoto icon in the Dock what happens?
As to your other OS questions this is certainly not hte best place to address them - we are iPhoto users just like yourself here --- basically as I understand it (and I have had had Macs for 30+ years) there is no "defrag and you do not need one - and antivirus is your choice - most people feel it is a waste of money on a Mac but some like to have it

Mac has Pages and Numbers, which are mostly compatible with word and excel. Both are available in the App Store for $20 each.
You can also buy Microsoft's office for Mac suite.

It shouldn't. After migrating files from the old computer to the new one, repair disk permissions. If you're using Mac OS X 10.5.4 or 10.5.3, you might get permission errors, but you don't need to worry about them unless you're having problems running a particular application. I consistently get a "cups" error with 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 but it doesn't affect the computer's performance. It seems to be a bug in the operating system.

Heard windows has a tool called Snippy, looked at Snagit, but read free download agreement and it reads a bit 'fishy', as the download is only free for 30 days, etc and it talks about fees etc.

Mac does have two utilities: Snagit for Mac and LittleSnapper. There are a few others. Snag it for mac is just a better "clippings" thing. It will not scan your image. There are OCR products available for Mac which might be able to take your clipping document and scan it back to text.

This maybe an odd question but recently I have been receiving anonymous threatening emails which appear to be from my ex-girlfriend or her friends. I closed one email account down plus suspended my Facebook. Now I am receiving more threats via other my email accounts.
Today both my sister and I have received similar via email and also mobile phone text message.
I am now concerned that somehow someone has stolen my info via my Mac or iCloud. Is this possible?

I have already reported it to the police but the person(s) have used some kind of anonymous email thing, probably isn't worth the cost or the man hours in trying to track it down. It's made me a bit paranoid about my personal information. Yeah, OK, I can see an arbitary number for CPU used since session startup (what does that refer to by the way? It can't be percent), and I can see that one user has consumed massive amounts of CPU compared to all other sessions, but he is currently not running anything, so how can I see which SQL he ran in the past day that cuased all that CPU consumption? Can I do this without AWR?
By the way, do you need a Diagnostic Pack license for simply viewing the Performance tab of dbconsole? I Can go into dbconsole and see history for 2 days back and see the massive espike that caused CPU consumption, but when dbconsole displays the list of top SQL and top sessions under the graph, is it the top listed SQL that consumed the most cpu or do you need to correlate the colours, i.e. find the SQL listed in top SQL that has the same colour as CPU usage on the graph (green) even if it is not listed as the top "consumer" (which I assume means top AAS consumer: overall consumption of all resources)?
