i have tereabyte drive of movies. i also have a g5, macpro and macbook. is there anyway to hook hardrive up to computer and connect computer to tv and watch movies that way. all movies are either quicktime or apple tv converted home movies. and can you connect external hardrive to apple tv anyway cause there drives are very small. is it usb? and any other ptions

yes.. you just need a connector with one end that fits your computer (DVI, mini DVI, display port... whatever you have) to HDMI, S-video, component, composite etc that is on your TV.

Apple Tv is playing wrong movie.

Apple tv is playing wrong movie. Very strange. I select the movie or tv program I want to watch but it plays a completely different one. I have airplay on, if I take it off the problem stops but every time I pause then hit play a different movie or even music plays on my computer at the same time. It;s driving me crazy. Whats going on?

When it stopped playing, what happened. Did the screen go blank, the video just freeze or did it go back to the menus, could you otherwise use the Apple tv or not.

Since upgrading iTunes 10.5.1.42, I have been unable to use the "Advanced - Create iPad or Apple TV Version" to convert movies.

No, there is no direct download link. Those are days of the past, I'm afraid. You may need to reinstall Mavericks.

Apple TV2 not playing rented movies

Hi folks,
Here's a problem which I've discovered since the latest software update for the appleTV:
I regularly rent movies via the iTunes store on my iPad2. Usually in standard def. I've had no trouble in the past viewing said videos on AppleTV - appearing in the top left of the Apple TV home screen under 'Purchased' or 'Rented' items.
On Sunday past, I rented a film in the same way only to find that the rental did not appear on my AppleTV - I even did the whole 'check for rentals' thing via settings, but to no avail. In the end, as I had friends round to watch the movie, I had to rent the movie a second time via my appleTV.
Phoned support last night who couldn't give me an explanation of why this might be, but did offer me a work-around - ie, play the movie on my iPad and send it via Airplay to my appleTV - I tried it last night while the guy from support was on the phone with me. It worked with a rented movie on my iPad 'Stander'. No problems. So, I went ahead and rented 'In Time' on my iPad, sent to to Airplay as before only to get the message on my iPad 'Not authorised to play this content on the selected monitor device'. However, the audio was playing via the AppleTV. Tried again this morning to find that now not only isn't the audio not playing via AppleTV but I'm getting the yellow exclamation mark triangle on screen with the message 'Not Authorised to play this content'.
There is nothing wrong with my hardware as far as I can tell. Everything else works as it should. This is a problem which has suddenly occured since the last firmware/software update for AppleTV.
Can someone offer me some help/explanation because Apple support both last night and today have been entirely useless. While not able to offer me an explanation, they did however try to sell me extended phone support, which was nice...
So yeah, if anyone else can offer me any help/suggestions, it'd be much appreciated!

I don't recall rentals made on an iPad ever also being available on AppleTV direct - they're not supposed to be:

It's a long time since I rented on an iPad so that's not to say it never happened I just don't recall that you werer supposed to be able do to this.
Airplay however should work.
Funnily enough I tried Airplaying a movie my kids had started to watch on teh AppleTV2 yesterday and got audio only. This was from a local iTunes library so easy to do direct on the unit - I'd only tried Airplay as it should have continued from where they were watching rather than ahving to manually naviagte to there.

In the new iTunes you no longer have the 'create iPod version' or 'create Apple TV version,' for converting movies. Will this feature return..?

After installing the new itunes, I inserted some video files, and wanted to create a version for my iPod classic. Before, I could just click on the video and then select 'create iPod version' from the menu. It would then convert the file. However, this feature no longer exist. Is there another way I can easily convert my files?

it's actually simple button that takes timeline to place
where FLVPlayback
component is placed.

HT1390 Authorising Apple TV to play rental movies downloaded to my Mac

I have successfully dowladed a renatl movie from ITunes to my Mac but am unable top play it.
I keep getting the following response from my Mac -
"WE COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR ITUNES STORE REQUEST - AN UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURED (-42110)...THERE WAS AN ERROR IN THE ITUNES STORE, PLEASE TRAY AGAIN LATER"
Well I have been trying for some days now and keep getting the same rersponse, am I ever going to be able to watch this movie I ask myself?
When I fo to my Apple TV - I keep getting the follwong response -
YOUR APPLE TV IS NOT AUTHORISED TO PLAT THIS CONTENT..
I am to say the least lost and wondering what is the point of all this?

Apple tv stops playing downloaded movies

My Apple TV has a movie downloaded, but when it's played it keeps stopping as if the movie is streaming. Any ideas?

Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

Will apple tv lag playing a movie from iTunes located on an external HD?

Hi! I have recently bought an Apple TV 3 and am excited to use it. Everything is set up and seems to be working fine. My question is, I had started adding movies to my iTunes library and noticed the size is quite large (1.2 GB per movie) and don't want to fill up my internal hard drive space with these. If I keep them on an external hard drive, still having them in iTunes but not copying them in their, will playback on Apple TV 3 lag at all if it is running from a USB 2 connected external hard drive on the computer?

Many people including myself keep their iTunes library on an external drive. There should be no problem doing this.

You can see your current connection by going to speedtest.net
HD content will need at least 6mbps for instant playback
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)

Playing reference movies on Apple TV

Is it possible to get Apple TV to play reference movies created using Quicktime? I have quite a lot of reference movies which point to sections of larger mp4 files, and would like to be able to play them on my Apple TV. At present the files show up and play in iTunes fine, but don't show up on the Apple TV.

OK. I read your other post and I think I get the idea, but for the avoidance of doubt I'm assuming you have something like a whole album as a single file and use reference movies so you can play individual tracks.
In respect of reference movies working or not, I know they don't, or at least I have not been able to make them work myself. As to why, a proper explanation is a little out of my depth but I suspect it is simply because they require quicktime to understand them.
Since I now know what you want to do, I don't believe symbolic links will do for you. I'm not sure whether symbolic links would work in the first place but I can't see why not, problem is in your case they would point to the whole file and not a part of it. Basically symbolic links are an absolute filepath and can be resolved by the file system rather than specific applications.
I'm afraid I can't see a solution to your requirement. Is it not rather unusual to store music in this way, is there a reason you do this, seems like a lot of hard work to me.

It's right at an hour (consistently), but the computer goes to sleep prior to that. It's as if iTunes goes to sleep. Also, it wasn't always this way. Originally, the movies played through without interruption. At some point, I guess a setting was changed, and now I only get an hour. Also. My energy settings are set to go to sleep at 10 minutes.
