Do Not Disconnect and Being Used by Another Program
My iPod was connected to my laptop when I started it up. It launched itunes and itunes synced and said, "It's ok to disconnect." However my iPod still flashes Do Not Disconnect. So then I tried the little eject button. That gave me the message, "Cannot eject, iPod is in use by another program." My first thought was that it was Winamp and closed that down. It still shows the do not disconnect. My final option is to shut off the computer, but will that be ok? Hoping not to have more problems with the ipoddity.
Forgot to say the mananging files manually and disk usage are not checked

I am having a problem with the new iTunes store. I can connect my ipod, and it will show that it is syncing. Once the sync is complete on iTunes, my ipod still shows that it is connected, do not eject. I have not had a problem with this until the new verision of iTunes. When I go to eject my ipod, it tells me that it can't eject due to application being used in another program. I did receive an ipad 2 for Christmas, that I also sync with iTunes, but only the ipad shows up in my devices on the site, what happened to my ipod device and how to add it back to devices? Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

My iPod isn't being used by another program!
So I just got a new, 2nd gen green iPod shuffle today. And I updated it once and I got all my Kelly Clarkson songs on it. Then I synced some MCR songs on iTunes and I plugged my iPod back into the computer via USB dock. It kept on saying 'iPod is being used by another program, not able to update.' I tried this several times and the same message kept on popping up. I got really frustrated.
Would someone be kind enough to help me?
iPod 2nd Gen Shuffle Windows XPJust try restarting your computer first. Your computer has many, many applications running at any one time so its not surprising that your iPod is being used by another programme. If you uploaded your Kelly Clarkson songs then closed iTunes and then opened iTunes up again, without turning your computer off, or even worse - just pulling your iPod out of the USB port without pressing the disconnect button!, then the computer may still think iTunes is using it and iTunes itself may think another programme is using your iPod when actually, iTunes is using it itself! So I suspect that once you have turned your computer off and turned it on again, then when you plug your iPod in again it will work.

Isight camera- Camera is being used by another program
I use my MBP with an external keybpard, & mouse, and monitor so I run it witht he lid closed. Everytime I go to click on the ichat icon- I get a message saying camera is being use by another program.
I am also trying to use an external camera. THis message happens with out without the external camera being connected.
Any thoughts on this?Try this... shut down ur machine, then hold the power
button for almost 10seconds or until u hear a beep,
then once ur machine is fully booted up the camera
should start working again. Good luck!

Webcam being used by another program/Other Person ...
Okay, here's the problem. I just bought a new windows 7 PC and it came preinstaled with Skype. I tested the webcam and everything seemed fine. Then we got a video call from someone that uses an ipod and the video wouldn't work. I looked and it said that my webcam could not be used because another program must be using it. Only thing is, NO OTHER PROGRAMS ARE RUNNING. Not even Explorer or Firefox.
So I decided to do some testing. First I tried downloading it on my Android phone to make sure it wasn't related to an iphone/ipod problem, still doesn't work. Then I double checked to make sure my drivers and software were all updated. Everything is up to date. Then I disabled auto-sign-in on startup in case skype was loading before my webcam driver was, still nothing.Then I tried running in compatability mode for windows xp, Skype freezes and wont even start. Now I'm officially out of ideas
So to sum it up. When I start skype, and go to video, my webcam will work, but as soon as someone tries calling, they can't see any video. I'll list all my stats below. This is very frustrating because this is the same webcam that I was using on an older computer that recently gave me problems, so I bought an entirely new computer and it works great, but now skype won't work. Why can't this stuff ever be simple?

Webcam works with other programs NONE OF WHICH are ever running in the background. Double, no Tripled checked. No messenger, Oovoo, Explorer, Firefox, Yahoo, or anything.
Does anyone have ANY ideas? This is really important to me. We recently moved out of state and this is the only way we can see my family. Thank you in advance for any help.I am also having the same subject problem. When I go to Tools->Options->Video settings the video stream is OK. So what interfering software is running during a video call that is not running when I check the video settings? I have included some thoughts and observations below.
My webcam device name in Windows is: USB Video Device. The OS is Windows XP Pro SP3. SKYPE version is 5.9.0.115. Webcam is Logitech C210 and I am using the Microsoft USB video device driver, not the Logitech drivers. I have uninstalled the other Logitech software a long time ago.
When I open My Computer in Windows and click on “USB Video Device” the USB Video Device window opens with webcam preview video displayed as long as no other programs are using the webcam. If SKYPE is running and producing video (Tools->Options->Video settings), instead of good video displayed on the USB Video Device window I get the Windows video error message shown below.

Similarly, If I start SKYPE (Tools->Options->Video settings)with no other programs running that use the webcam I get good video. However, if I start the Windows USB Video Device preview video before I start the SKYPE video, I get the SKYPE video error message shown below that indicates that SKYPE can’t start the video.

While this little experiment is completely expected, I have been getting the SKYPE video error message when I try to make video calls. Just before the call, Tools->Options->Video settings results in a good, solid video stream. During the call I can see and hear my contact but my contact can only hear me. The SKYPE video error message appears. The webcam icon shows a red diagonal line through it. My contact can very briefly see me when I click on the webcam icon temporarily removing the red diagonal line. But then SKYPE returns to the error state.
As far as I could tell no other applications were running that could conflict with SKYPE and result in this error condition! Does anyone have any additional suggestions for identifying the interfering software or application? Or is there some other reason this particular SKYPE video error message occurs?

P.S.: It’s too bad the SKYPE program can’t provide some diagnostic clue to help the user identify the offending application software. -
I get the "Do not disconnect" message all the time. When I try to eject the ipod the error message is that the ipod can not be disconnected because it is in use with an other application. I turn off all antivirus protection and the same result. I can not find what other application is accessing the ipod. The only way I can disconnect is to go to the drive that it is assigned to, and do an eject. The unit will sync properly but will not eject for itunes.

"disc burner being used by another program"
for some reason, recently on my G5 running Tiger i cannot burn cds in Itunes....even though i am NOT running any other burning programs when i am in itunes, it gives me the error message listed in the subject....
i can reboot to temporarily fix the problem but after one or two successful cd burns the problem pops right back up.
is there any way that I can find out WHAT program this error is referring to? i have not added any new programs that could have caused this all of the sudden (i have DVD Studio, Discblaze and Toast but rarely use them, and they were all on the g5 back when i had zero problems burning cds)

Audio Stream Recorder - Error: Audio device is already being used by another prog
I realized that Audio Stream Recorder is does not "work" through server list feature. So I am simply trying to use the manual method of adding URL's to the interface. However regardless of the type of stream, shoutcast, windows media or real audio, I receive the error "audio device is already being used by another program". Does anyone know how to fix this? I have closed my audio application etc to no avail. <RANT WARNING> I was very excited about using this application when I read about it. However an application that provides none of the stated features is not an application, its false advertising, since it clearly states on the box, help files and website this products "features". Anyway, it'ss very disappointing. Also, does anyone know what the supported steaming formats are, the help file say the application requires RealONE and Windows Media Player but does not mention audio stream formats? Thanks you in advance for any help.
I have the same issue. I updated to the latest software, to no avail. My first suspicion is that some Microsoft patch caused this, but I cannot verify this.

Webcam 3100 says being used by other program but isn't
i have a webcam 3100 when i try to open "capture" i get the "may not be connected or maybe being used by another program..." . but when i open "monitor" all is fine. if i try to open capture (at the top right of the window) when i am in monitor i get the same " maynot be connected or maybe being used...). I also have skype i removed it from my computer and tried again same thing happened. whe i reinstalled skype i did get the webcam after it was installing. i did remove windows 7 and replaced windows 7 earlier. the webcam (capture) did work before i did remove windows 7. it was just suggested by a friend to try to reinstall the drivers from HP site. will try but will still post this.

To ensure your system has all of the software and hardware drivers, I recommend following this document on Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7). Once the software is re-installed, please ensure your software is up to date Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7).

I just got an ipod classic 7th generation a couple days ago and I'm having a heck of a time with it. My latest problem is that with media on iTunes, I cannot eject the ipod because it says that it cannot be ejected because it contains files that are being used by another application. What application is this, and what do I do about it?

Here are some possible solutions:
Do you use musicmatch jukebox on your computer? If you do, you have to go into task manager on windows and end process mim.exe. It interferes with disconnecting ext devices
Empty your "trash/recycle bin."
If that doesn't work, try quitting all your programs, especially music-type programs, basically things that look for mp3's etc.
if that doesn't work, "log off" then "log on" and that should refresh/purge your OS system.
Finally, you can restart your computer.

I am trying to burn a music cd on iTunes, but I am getting an error that reads that the cd burner is being used by another application. I know that I am not using the cd burner for anything else. I have restarted the Mac and nothing. Any ideas?
One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

I am unable to use my external CD player. I have a fairly new mac mini 10.8. I am told that the player is being used by another application, but it's not true. I've forced everything to quit and restarted. I've even unplugged the unit and let it rest. I've turned off and unplugged the mac too. I cannot make a CD. Why?
I misread your message. I thought it said I did not have burn support with the Samsung hardware.
When the CD goes in it says You inserted a bland CD. choose an action from the popup menu or click ignore
open finder
open itunes
open disk utility
make this action the default
eject ignore ok
However, when I am making CDs. I am in itunes. That is where my recordings areI haven't tried to do it from this vantage point.
I don't know how to make a screen shot on a mac.
I go to my playlist and click on the little gear icon at the bottom left and I leave things as they are - preferred speed - maximum. I leave it on audio CD - and then I select BURN.
When I tried this the other day, I could not get it to burn, no matter how hard I tried - everything I could think of, using a different CD, force quitting everything I was not using, restarting the computer, unplugging the CD hardware and plugging it back in after a little while, nothing worked. I got that message that said my player was being used by another application every time I tried to make the CD. This took over an hour. I don't know of another way to make a CD on the mac; I was not using another program or application. Now it seems to be working fine. I am burning another copy of something I gave away.
I wish I knew what caused this. It was a real problem Saturday morning. -
Cannot disconnect iPod - files being used by another application
This is the first time I've connected my new iPod to my brand new computer(Dell E510 loaded). I've been able to down load some albums, and it has been charging (via usb port on tower) for 8 hours. When I try to eject the iPod via itunes I get the error. " iPod can not be disconnected since some of its files are being used by another application. Try again later" I don't have any other applications running. Since this if the 1st time I'm using it, I'm hesitant to follow any of the R procedures. So I close iTunes and open it again. Sometimes it recognizes the iPod and doesn't other times. Thanks for any input
I don't have McAfee and this happens to me as well (every single time since I got the 5th Gen Ipod last month).
I have been clicking on the "safely remove hardware" icon in the toolbar, and manually disconnecting it that way. It seems to work alright.
The annoying thing is that this is only an issue with my 5th gen Ipod. My Ipod Mini has never had any trouble disconnecting the normal way. -
