Do not Disconnect and Removable Sotrage Devie

I have a Gen 5 Ipod with video and the Do not disconnect shows up but the Ipod doesn't connects to the computer and when I check it appears as removable storage device. I did everything the site said and still the problem persists

Thanks for replying!
The problem is that in the Ipod screen appears the "do not disconnect" and then when I check in "My Computer" it appears an icon of Removable storage device instead on what is supposed to be the drive for the Ipod

  • IPod stuck in "do not disconnect" and NOT recognized by iTunes

I updated to 7.1.1.... and my iPod is not stuck in "do Not disconnect" and not recognized by iTunes.
I have tried the Toshiba "Safely Remove Hardware" -- and selecting the iPOD -- but, notice comes back "cannot disconnect now because a program is accessing the device."
Anyone know where I can go from here??? Thanks very much.

the same thing happened to me yesterday after downloading the new itunes 7.1.1 the do not dissconnect would'nt go off and computer and itunes would'nt reconize my ipod video.
so i left it alone overnight to empty battery completely.
the do not disconnect was gone in the morning then i recharged it and plugged it back in to computer and everything is fine. i don't know why it froze on me.
my husbands ipod mini had a similar problem awhile back and i did the same and it also was fine.

why my ipodmy ipod displays do not disconnect and wont sync but can be restored?

If it is a problem than I have it too. Mine does the
same as long as I don't stop the device via the
little green arrow icon (USB manager) down by the
    clock.
I never really need to use the Ipod when it is hooked
into the PC because everything is done through
iTunes. I just thought it said "do not disconnect"
because it was associated with both iTunes and the PC
    as a hard disk.
If I stop the device or "eject" the iPod, it goes
from do not disconnect to the normal menu tree.
So when you take the USB cable out of the iPod, it goes back to normal?
If that's what you mean, mine does that too.
It's just that I read that if you remove the USB cable from your iPod while it says 'do not disconnect', it can wipe all your music....

  • "do not disconnect" and automatic vs. manual updates

today, i switched my ipod to disable automatic updating b/c there were songs (e.g. holiday music) on my itunes and ipod, which i wanted to remove from my ipod. but when ever since i switched to manual update mode, my ipod says "do not disconnect" and it must be manually ejected (dragging icon to trash before disconnecting from usb port). even when i switched my computer/ipod back to original settings (automatically update music versus manually update from itunes), my ipod still must be ejected manually and displays "do not disconnect". how can i get it to the way it was?
thanks in advance for any answers.

    Michelle,
With iTunes open click on the iPod icon located at the lower right of the pane.
In the preferences you have the option to, "Enable Disk Use". If this is checked then your iPod is mounted as a hard drive. If you uncheck this box you will see the "Do Not Disconnect" disappear.
    hope this helps.

Be good to know what the diagnostic results are.
I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

  • My Ipod keeps saying "Do not disconnect" and the update ipod is not working

    Hi,
I just got my ipod nano a couple of days ago and after loading the itunes and then plugging in the ipod i unplugged it when it said do not disconnect without thinking. Now when i plug in my nano it keeps saying do not disconnect and although the ipod symbol appears on the itunes, no instructions have popped up to explain how the music transfers even though it says it in the booklet and when i click file the update ipod button isn't clickable. I'm just wondering if there's anything i could do

  • Did not listen to 'do not disconnect' and now there's a noise and a sad ipo

It all started when I was in a hurry and ejected my ipod from itunes. As usual, it was removed from the Source list but my ipod still said 'do not disconnect.' I unplugged it and left. Hours later I was at my friends house and plugged it into her laptop to get some of her songs. It wasn't recognized in her Source list and it started to make weird, loud, grinding noises. I reset it and the sad ipod face guy came up. I went to the support page and it said to fully charge it before anything else. So, all last night I charged it and it continued to make that horrible noise all night. I went back to the 5 R's and tried all of them. I finally went to restore it but it's showing that icon that means that it isn't charged enough for the computer to recognize it. Similarily, the ipod updater keeps asking me to plug in an ipod, even though it's plugged in. Now, every couple of minutes, as my ipod is plugged in to my comp via USB, the apple icon shows up, it makes that noise and then the sad guy pops up. What should I do? (I apologize for the length but there's just so much going on with this.)

Strange noises are a telltale sign of hardware failure. If you want to be totally sure that your iPod is a baddie, reset your iPod, and when the apple logo is showing, press and hold the rewind and clicker buttons for several seconds. When you do this, the iPod should "chirp" and the apple will reverse. Now it's in diagnostic mode. After doing this, try to run the automatic tests. (note that when in this mode, the trackpad doesn't work, you have to use the rewind and fast forward buttons to go back and forth). Have iPod plugged in when doing this. If you end up with a sad iPod icon, then it needs to be sent in...

  • ITunes slow, "Do not disconnect" and freezing - how I fixed it

Ok, I don't know how many people this might help but I thought I would post how I managed to fix my iTunes.
I was experiencing various problems. Firstly, when starting up iTunes it would just give hourglass, stop, then boot up the program 1 minute later. Any action I did would cause the program to freeze for a while before it started the action I asked it to. The iPod would also never eject and would stick on "Do Not Disconnect". Any CD's I inserted would cause it to freeze. Sometimes iTunes wouldn't recognize that the iPod was inserted. It also consumed 100% of my CPU resources ALL the time, and would occasionally force me to reboot. Rebooting with iPod inserted would cause my PC to stick at the Mobo manufacturer screen and wouldn't boot at all until iPod was removed...
The list of things that made it not work is endless...
This fix is pretty simple, although it might not work for all. There seems to be a problem with the path letter assigned to the iPod when it is connected. If, like me you run your system boot on a path other than "C" and have no other drives attached to "C" then when you insert the iPod it will default the HD it creates to "C" - iTunes does not like this - your PC does not like this - Windows doesn't like it either! So, you could change it's path to something else but then every time you connect your iPod it will keep defaulting to "C".
So, you need to create a HD of sorts and assign it to "C" so that the iPod can never obtain that path when it's connected each time. Either create a small partition of an existing HD or install something like Daemon Tools and assign it's virtual drive to take up the "C" path.
As soon as I did this everything runs perfectly. No freezing whatsoever, iTunes works perfectly, no freezing ever, ejecting and inserting my iPod and CD's works fine. In fact, it all works fine!
I hope this might help at least a few people who are suffering with not being able to run their iPod Nano.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are.
    Still no joy? See these.

  • Please help--Ipod says DO NOT DISCONNECT and I cant stop it-

I wish there wasd someone I could talk to to walk me thru this.I was updating software, connected ipod and now the update is frozen, and I can't disconnect ipod. Help - I don't know what to do.

    Follow Michael's advice.
The iPod will always show "do not disconnect" when attached to your PC because there is an active connection there. Think of it as being on the phone, if you pull the plug it will mess up the conversation.
On the bottom right by your clock you should have a little green arrow. That shows you what USB devices are hooked into your pc. As long as you do not have the iTunes software open, you can double click that icon and it will show you a small grey window. You will a choice that says "USB Mass Storage Device". Click it once to highlight it and then click the "stop" button on the bottom of the same window. You will get a pop up balloon telling you that it is ok to remove the device (your iPod).
If you have iTunes turned on, you will need to "eject" the iPod by either choosing eject from the file menu or right clicking on your iPod icon in the playlist (left side) of the iTunes software. There is an option in there called "eject iPod" which means that you are done moving files over and that iTunes can release the Ipod and you can use it.
If you don't have iTunes open, just follow the first step. Don't plug things in during the middle of an operation as that will cause lock ups.
Also depending on if you have USB 2.0 or not, the process of moving files and updating can be much slower so try to be patient.
    Hope this helps...

  • do not disconnect and NOT CHARGING

When i plug my NANO, I have this ''do not disconnect'' logo blinking and I don't see the charging logo. Why ? It does not want to charge. I did reset + restore. HELP !
    Merci,
    Jean

When your iPod is displaying "Do Not Disconnect" it is charging.
In the upper-right corner of your iPod's screen, you will see a slowly blicking battery symbol.
Or, you will see a battery with a plug icon in the middle of it, indicating that your iPod is fully charged.
When your iPod is displaying "Do Not Disconnect" when you connect it to your computer, and its been displaying this for more than a couple of minutes, you most likely have disk use enabled, or you are manually managing your iPods content.
In both of those possibilities, you will have to manually eject your iPod before it is safe to disconnect.
To eject your iPod, click on the little arrow that's next to its name in the iTunes Source List.
Or go to the Safely Remove hardware program in the bottom-right corner of your screen, with the System Tray icons. Select "Apple iPod USB", and click on "Stop".

  • "do not disconnect" and not recognized by iTunes

I have read these discussios and I can see I am not the only one who has these same problems, but I have not gotten any answer that would have helped me.
I just bought a new iPod Nano 4Gb, I had a 2Gb version and it worked just fine, not even one problem with it. But stupid of me I wanted a bigger one. When I plugged it in it wanted to update itself, but somehow in the middle of the process my computer booted itself. So when it had rebooted, iTunes did not recognize my Nano and updater kind of freezed.
And now I have tried every single thing in the list that could help. But my Nano just shows this "do not disconnect" thing.
I do not know what to do. Should I just return my lovely Nano to the shop I bought it from or is there some trick that could bring it back to life?
Oh yes, I have not been able to restore the software because updater does not work, it just freezes everytime, I have reinstalled it a dozen of times, even with different languages but not even that helps. Nano's Icon shows in My computer but I can not touch it because it just goes "does not respond". If I take my Nano away from my comp it works just fine, even if there is no music or anything in it, but as soon as I connect it, it just does this "do not disconnect" thing.
Help me, I don't know what to do
iPod Nano 4Gb Windows XP Pro

    I answer to myself
So I took my nano to the store and they gave me a new one, just saying that they had had a couple of those same problems with iPods. So I got the new one and wisely enough I reinstalled first iTunes and updater so that nothing would remind of the player that didn't work.
But when I plugged it in the same text appeared "do not disconnect" I could have cried. I thought it would go away if I just waited. Well it didn't. But different from the last time I was able to use Updater and I did see what was inside my iPod in My Computer. So now I just cleaned my temp folder and used the Windows Install Clean Up and reinstalled iTunes.
And after rebooting my comp a miracle happened, iTunes recognized my nano and I was able to transfer music to it. I am so happy!
