Do Not Disconnect screen won't go away

Yeah basically, whenever my iPod is connected to my computer the "Do Not Disconnect" screen won't go away, even though nothing is being sent out iTunes to my iPod video. I've even tried reseting my iPod and I added all my music back on it but it still displays this screen. There isn't even the swirling icon in the top left corner. This only seems to happen when iTunes is running. As soon as I hit the eject button in iTunes it goes back to the normal screen. It's been doing this for like 3 hours now. Help?

If disk mode is enabled the do-not-disconnect will not go away and you must eject manually.
Turn off disk mode and it will only say do-not-disconnect only when the iPod is actively synching.

  • "Do Not Disconnect" Message Won't Go Away

I have the new iPod video and I also have the new iMac. When I had a PC, I'd never had this problem but now I do: After I eject my ipod, the "do not disconnect" message continues to appear as if it's still updating. I have ejected it using iTunes, Finder, the Desktop, EVERYTHING and the message still remains. Then when I try to disconnect it, the "device removal" error shows up. How can I fix this problem!?!?!
When I had my PC, my iPod would automatically eject after it was done updating. Someone please help! This is my third iPod video and I hope this one isn't faulty as well! Thanks.

Hello, and welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Let's try a restore of the iPod to the factory settings...
Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater.
Important: Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. Make a backup of any files on your iPod before restoring it. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.
First get the iPod updater, available for free on the Apple website (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/).
Once you have downloaded that software, open the application, plug in your iPod and click "Restore". This will take a minute, after the ROM chip in the iPod has flashed, you will see the iPod screen, and there will be no music on the iPod. It is as if the iPod is new. Connect the iPod once again to your Mac, and run iTunes.
You will most likely have to re-enter a name for the iPod and go through the basic iPod setup again; and then your music will Sync.
    Hope this helps,
    Cory

  • OK to disconnect screen won't go away

Like many others here, I cannot get my iPod to mount to my Mac. I've updated software, trashed an extension file as recommended in another discussion, and tried to get my iPod into disc mode. Nothing is working.
Everything else on my iPod comes up normal- all the windows of playlists, artists, albums...etc... But since I restored it last time, I have no library, so I am trying to connect it to my computer and put some music in it.
But when connected...all I can get my iPod to do is flash the "OK to disconnect" screen. When I try to get it into disc mode, it acts like it's going to...then..... "OK to disconnect".
No matter what I do, all I see is that.
Any suggestions? I updated to iTunes 6 this morning and I think it's causing the problem, but I'm not sure.
It's a first generation, but in good shape with a brand new battery.

    Hi,
I have the same problem. Have you figured out how to fix it? My son has all of his stuff on the ipod.
    Thanks

  • Ipod is frozen on do not disconnect screen....

i seriously don't know what to do with m ipod anymore. it's a 5 gen ipod video that i've had for less than a year. today i tried to sync it to my computer which is a sony vaio with windows xp and it got stuck on the do not disconnect screen. i plugged the ipod in and waited for itunes to open, which it didn't(i waited a long long time). so i then shut down my pc thinking the do not disconnect screen would go away after the pc was shut down...but it didn't. i tried rebooting my ipod MANY times and that didn't work. I tried plugging it in different usb ports on my pc and it doesn't show up in itunes. it shows up in my computer as a 'removeable disk' not an ipod as well. i don't know what to do...all i wanna do is format it back to factory settings so i can use it on my new pc(a brand new imac..<3) does anyone have any ideas? thanks.<br>
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Even when its not connected..I went through the same thing my Ipod freezes alot(5thgen) nor will it show vidoe or pics not even podcast. What I did was got a programm call TUNE TRANSFER FOR ipod. With this you can backup anything on your ipod so you can then restore it. During a freeze your computer doesnt recognize the ipod at all.No connection. You need to reset your Ipod but not traditionall. 1- toggle hold switch 10 times each direction.(left/right)immediatly after your last toggle(be sure the toggle isnt on hold)
2-hold menu and select buttons for 15 seconds toggle periodically. I hopes that helped if not messege me back. make sure you have the latest Itunes.
    GOOD LUCK

  • IPod stuck on Do not disconnect screen.

My iPod is stuck on the Do not disconnect screen. It won't connect to the computer, shut off or reset. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. There is also an iPod 'eject' icon in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject. With a Mac, drag the iPod into the trash.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes version 7 or later, connect the iPod and when you see the summary screen, uncheck the box marked "enable disk use".
If you are using an earlier version of iTunes, right click on the iPod in the source list, select options and uncheck the same box.
In future your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • 5th Gen iPod freezes on "Do Not Disconnect" screen when connected to Mac

My iPod freezes on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen (partially backlit) when I plug it into my computer. I have a G4 eMac with standard USB connections. The ipod firmware is up to date.
This freeze doesn't occur ALL the time....just occasionally. The iPod does not appear on my desktop or in iTunes when this happens. I have to wait until the iPod discharges its battery completely before I can use it again (this sometimes takes a couple of days!).
Does anyone have any ideas? Or is anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks....

    G4 eMac 700mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   768 MB RAM

Thanks for the replies.........I can't seem to find a solution to this....its annoying to say the least. Its just happened again this morning, though it's successfully sync'd on the last few occasions....it seems to be quite random.
One thing I've noticed is that it synced OK when iTunes wasn't open when I plugged it in. It appeared on the desktop, then I opened iTunes. This morning though it froze when iTunes was already open, so there may be an issue with iTunes (I updated this weekend to see if it was any different with the new version). I guess this will happen if you've got the ipod set to open iTunes automatically when connected too.
So, no solutions as yet.......I'm gonna get onto Apple to see if they have any answers. I'll get back to you all on this one.
PS: why no firewire capabilities on the new ipods?

  • Do not disconnect screen is frozen on my ipod

I have a video IPod 30G. I got a new computer and I downloaded the new itunes 7.0. It recognized my ipod but it would not let me add my current 1800 songs to the library. I ejected my ipod on itunes several times and nothing happened. I went ahead and disconnected my ipod from the usb connector like I've done before and now it froze and the wording "do not disconnect" is frozen on the bottom of my screen. I tried to reset it, but it's still frozen. I tried to connect it back again and now it's not recognizing my ipod in itunes or my computer. When I do connect it, it does not regcognize my device? I ran a diagnostic through itunes and it shows that there is a connection problem w/ my ipod. What can I do? I've tried to turn it off and on and nothing is working. Please help!!

I drained the battery, and the "do not disconnect" screen finally came off.... I must have reset my ipod, I lost all my 1800+ songs,. But I have a new problem, when I connect it to the usb port, itunes opens up but has an error message saying to go to the summary preference and select restore to factory setting??? I don't show that anywhere in my IPOD, where is the "summary" icon? My computer can recognize it as a drive but itunes can't...what do I do now..?

  • Frozen "Do Not Disconnect" Screen

Hey guys I need some URGENT help:
I recently "ejected" my ipod from my pc but what happened is that it took ages for "My Ipod" to disappear from my iTunes and it ended up having an error on my PC saying that the drive wasn't ejected successfully and that files were not saved. This however, isn't the main problem.
When I unplugged my ipod from the USB wire, the "Do Not Disconnect" Screen stays there. I can't reset my ipod or anything. None of the buttons work. I try replugging it into my PC again and ... nothing.
Can anyone help me out here? Would I need to bring it to a Service Provider?

Did you try restoring it? As it restores it it makes the ipod go threw a diagnostics test and restores it to the factory settings. THis is what you have to do. 1. plug in your ipod. 2. go to the ipod updater. ( it should be in the start menu)3. it should reconize it and then you press restore.

  • Hung up do not disconnect screen

My ipod is not removing the do not disconnect screen when I hook it up to my pc to sync and is not updating. has anyone had this problem? please help.

It is nearly impossible to help unless you provide more information... Does your iPod work fine except for the sync connect to the PC? Has the sync ever worked? Does your iPod appear in the iTunes source list? Did you make any changes to the iPod options in iTunes?
If set the stage by telling the whole story, then we can try to help you.

  • How long does it take the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen to disappear?

How long does it take the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen to disappear?
I Just got my ipod nano a week ago. I put maybe 10 songs on there and then today, since I had some time, decided to start creating my library. By the time I decided to stop and plug in my nano so it can update, i had like 219 songs that had to be transferred. I watched each song on iTunes go to the ipod like usual and then my list that comes up when you select "__ ipod" is all grayed out like it's still updating. On the top of the iTunes screen, it says ipod update is complete though, and of course, my ipod has been saying do not disconnect for the past hour and a half with the battery fully charged. Does it really take that long for it to finish synching my songs? I mean I know I had a lot of songs to put on there put geez!

  • Do Not Disconnect screen and can't open iTunes!

I upgraded to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. I installed iTunes and restarted my computer like it said to. I couldn't open iTunes, so I plugged in my iPod to see if maybe it would open iTunes. My computer recognized my iPod and I got the Do Not Disconnect screen. It's been on the screen for about 20 minutes. Does anyone have any idea what I do to make it "okay" to unplug my iPod? Does anyone know how I get iTunes to open? If anyone can help, I'd really, really appreciate it! Thanks.

Get into Windows Explorer and right-click > Eject your iPod.

  • BLUE SCREEN WON"T GO AWAY ON STARTUP

When I turn on my iMac, the blue screen won't go away so I can't enter my login. Does anybody knows what's happening? What can I do to fix it?

    Uninstall Windows.
Seriously though, how long has it been on? I had the blue screen take 30 minutes once. Usually when it doesn't happen quick" though, I just force it to power off then back on. So far, that always works. Can't comment about whether I'm doing any damage though (though I've been doing it with PC's for over a decade )
