  • Half Black and White half Color Video

    Is there a way to take a full color video and make half of the video black and white and the other half full color?  For instance imagine a line down the center of the video, on the left the video is black and white, on the right side it's full color.  Taking that concept if an object or person moves from the left to the right side of the screen, thus crossing that invisible line they automatically switch from black and white to color.
    Almost like a video mask overlay..  How would I accomplish this in FCP?  I have FCPS  not FCPX

    Why would duplicating the video onto a track above mess up the sync?
    What you need to do is edit your piece first, once EVERYTHING is where it should be, THEN do the effects...
    unlink your audio (shift-L), select all of your video clips, shift-option click and drag up. Select one of your clips, apply the desaturate or channel mixer effect and the crop... Now, if you do not have any other filters already applied to your clips, select your clip and press command-c to copy. select the rest of the clips that will be destaurated/cropped and right click, select paste attributes. Select filters and Crop, and viola... Tell me where the loss of sync is?
    Make sure to press shift-L again so that your audio & video is linked.

  • How do I print a booklet with a colour cover but with black and white inside pages?

    Hi there,
    I need to print a large amount of booklets, which have a colour cover but are grayscale on the inside. However, I am having trouble setting up my document to successfully do this and I am unsure if it is something I can change in InDesign or if it is something I should figure out with my printer driver?
    We used Page Plus for these booklets in the past and were able to do this with the same printer, so that makes me think there might be setting I could change in InDesign to achieve the same result.
    It integral that the printer knows that the inside pages of the booklet are black and white, as we get charged per copy for colour printing and it is vastly increasing our printing costs.
    My coworker believed that exporting the file as a PDF with the options: Colour Conversions (convert to destination - Pressure Numbers), Destination (sRGB IEC61966-2.1), and Profile Inclusion Policy (Don't Include Profiles) is making a difference. However, I don't believe is is the case.
    If anyone had another suggestion that I could try, that'd be great!!

    @Eugene – do you have details for "Export as Grayscale"?
    I tried with the following details:
    Target-Profile: Dot Gain 15%
    Convert to Target Profile
    Include Target Profile
    If I do it this way I get:
    Target Profile not included
    Wrong numbers for my colors
    (I tested with a self-made color wedge on the page for the percentages of Black shown below)
    Seen in Acrobat Pro 10 with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%":
    100 % Black => 100 %
    80 % Black => 82 %
    60 % Black => 63 %
    40 % Black => 43 %
    20 % Black => 22 %
    I could convert to "Dot Gain 15%" in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel, but this would show the same wrong percentages (just tested).
    What I can do, however, is printing to PostScript with color separations, only color channel Black.
    That would work, if I chose a Distiller setting, that will not change the color, to convert my separated PostScript file to PDF.
    Seen in Acrobat Pro 10* with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%" or any of the other available gray scale profiles.
    (Acrobat Pro 11 might get this wrong due to a bug)
    100 % Black => 100 %
    80 % Black => 80 %
    60 % Black => 60 %
    40 % Black => 40 %
    20 % Black => 20 %
    This separated PDF (channel Black only) can now be converted with a self-made correction* in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel to a gray scale PDF/X-1a.
    If done right * the color values stay as defined in inDesign.
    Output in my case:
    PDF/X-1a
    OI: GrayScale profile Black ink of ISO Coated v2 300%
    Tested with:
    InDesign CC 2014.2
    Distiller X
    Acrobat Pro X
    Mac OSX 10.7.5
    Uwe
    * There are several, convoluted steps necessary to get this (hope, I can remember them all):
    Not optional:
    Have a grayscale profile representing the channel Black of your intended output CMYK or generate one!
    In my case the base CMYK profile was: ISO Coated v2 300%.
    And I got a "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" profile for Grayscale conversions by generating this with my PhotoShop app.
    Maybe optional, but helpful:
    Change the color settings of Acrobat Pro X to use the color settings file you generated in PhotoShop where:
    Grayscale is defined as the black channel of ISO Coated v2 300%: "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%"
    Mandatory, but somehow tricky:
    Then on to the Preflight Panel of Acrobat Pro to generate a custom preflight profile.
    None of the ordinary ones will fit exactly (at least in my Acrobat Pro X).
    1. Make a duplicate of an already stored Preflight profile that converts color to Gray. Name it appropriately.
    2. Include a single correction for converting to Gray Scale (at this time, or if you do something like that the first time, it's not possible to change or duplicate that single correction)
    3. Save your new profile. Close the profile.
    4. Open the profile again.
    5. Now, suddenly it's possible to duplicate that single correction (converting to Gray Scale).
    Do some changes, appropriate correction options, eg. adding "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" as OI to the PDFs you will convert.
    4. Use that duplicate single correction in your new Preflight profile.
    5. Save your custom preflight profile.

  • Black and White With Color Not Working

    I am trying to have the background of my image black and white with the person in color.  I turned black and white on then tried brushing black and white away from the person.  Instead of the full, vibrant color coming back it was a dull color.  Instead, I tried turning black and white off then brushing black and white into the background.  This time, instead of being pure black and white it was black and white with an obvious hint of color.  I have watched plenty of tutorials and know that it is possible to have it be pure black and white in the background with the person in front appearing in full vibrant color.  I just don't know what I am doing wrong that either my vibrant color is looking washed out in one method or my black and white isn't pure black and white in the other method.  When I first turn black and white on the image does go to pure black and white.  Any suggestions?

    See what happens after re-booting.
    Is "Brush Range" set to "All"?
    Try the same adjustments on another Image.
    Try the "Color Monochrome" adjustment and see if it works as expected when brushed in/brushed away.

  • Help! I  need to know how to make photos black and white from color and leave one thing colored.

    I am a new user. I have elements 6. I really want to take pic of flower that i shot in front
    yard and change it to black and white and then erase the b/w flower to reveal the true
    color of the flower underneath. I have had mixed ways advised to me but not successful
    any way i try. Help please!

    Hi,
    You can use Smart brush.  From tools panel on the left, select Smart brush tool and select Black & White category and select any effect which you wish and start painting over the area to be changed to B/W.To edit your adjustments, you can select Detailed smart brush if you feel more comfortable in using brush than Quick selection tool.

  • Black and white selective coloring with brushes disappeared

    The down and dirty:
    Upgraded to Aperture 3.1.1
    Aperture then updated my library
    I open a file that I have selectively colored with black and white (a track and field runner and her lane is color, the field is black and white) and to my horror the thumbnail and "quick preview" is correctly colored, but the full resolution image is not
    How do I get my hard work back?

    I'd like to add one last bit that seems strange to me (and gives me hope that I can recover my edits). When I switch "quick preview" from on to off and the image zooms to the native resolution my edits are in tact for half a second before going away (the image fully loads - I'm not looking at an expanded rendering of the quick preview).
    Also, when I move the image at full zoom my B&W edits flash briefly until I stop moving the image.
    I tried repair permissions and repair database. Both failed.

  • Black and white vs. color

    This is more a general printing question than an ID question, but here goes. I'm a newbie to printing. I'm just fooling around with ID, getting my feet wet for some eventual projects, and my question has to do with color. If I create an ID document that contains color and then send the document to a printing press (either as a native ID file or a PDF), but with instructions to print in black and white, what happens to my color images if we're not printing in color? I know that the correct thing to do is make sure that every photo is converted to grayscale before going to press, but I'm just wondering what happens in reality if a black-and-white printing project encounters color information? Thanks for considering this newbie question.

    A lot has to do with how the printer's prepress department handles the file,
    and what the capabilities of the RIP are. Somewhere some how the color data
    needs to be interpreted and converted to best possible representation using
    only the K channel. In our shop, if a customer sent an RGB or CMYK file that
    would print on press as black only, we would convert the file to grayscale
    in prepress. If it was a PDF, we would use Pittstop or Acrobat's built in
    color conversion function. If we got an ID file, we would either export as
    PDF and do the afore mentioned procedure, or send as a cmyk file and allow
    our RIP to change to grays. The latter is a bit risky as you really don't
    know what you get until it's on press or a rip proof file is run, both of
    which involve costs. And depending on the complexity of our prepress doing
    this work, it would probably involve some charges.
    Best to do the conversion to gray yourself.

  • How do i get Firefox to print web pages in black and white only (colors are interpreted in grayscale and some are too light to be read)?

    i have a black and white laser printer. Firefox prints web pages by sending color images to my printer. The printer uses greyscale to interpret the colors. i really want Firefox to send black and white images to my printer, because with greyscale some of the colors are translated to print that is too light to be seen clearly.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks,

    i just tried disabling adblock and checking if i had any no script or noscript sort of addon. i do not have a script killer. disabling adblock did not solve the issue.

  • Printing black and white with color accent

    I am trying to figure out how the make a photo black and white and just have a flower colored.
    I have Photoshop 9 and am a beginner. Please help!  Thanks.

    1. Open your photo in Full Edit.
    2. Find the smart brush, the one with the gears on it. Choose a black and white style from the thumbnails in the options bar and turn on the Inverse checkbox.
    3. Drag over the flower that you want to keep in color. The rest of the photo will turn black and white.

  • My hp deskjet 9362c will not print in black and white/error message says the printer mode is set at

    can not get my hp deskjet 932c to print in black and white.  error message states print mode in auto, but I can't find the print mode to correct.  printer was printing in black and white or color automatically til last night, then in middle of document quit altogether.  new cartridges get the same results.

    Check the paper type settings.  If this is set to "automatic" and the paper type is detected as photo paper then black only print is not available.  (The black pigmented ink is not compatible with photo paper.)  What is your operating system?

  • Won't print webpages in black and white

    Printing works fine when I am printing documents and other files, but when I want to print a webpage, printing is only done in color.  Even though I check 'Print black and white' on my computer's print preview page, and the print preview is in black and white, the printer still prints webpages in color.  What do I need to do to ensure that the commands I type on my computer reaches the printer? How do I make sure the printer is following the instructions I give it?  I am able to change it to black and white when I go into control panel > devices and printers > preferences > color > grayscale.  But when I have this checked it will only print in black and white and never color.  I am not able to figure out how to change it so that it prints black and white OR color depending on my command in the print preview page.  This is becoming very costly because of the uneccessary color ink that is being used so your help is appreciated.

  • MY PRINTER ONLY PRINTS IN COLOUR, AND I WANT TO ONLY PRINT IN BLACK AND WHITE

    HI, AND GREETINGS,
    IVE BEEN TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME BUT I CANNOT FIND A SOLUTION TO IT. IVE WANTED TO PRINT SOME DOCUMENTS BUT IN BLACK AND WHITE ONLY - INSTEAD OF COLOUR BUT I CANT SEEM TO FIND THE SETTING IN WHICH I CAN TURN OFF THE COLOUR, AND TO JUST USE BLACK INK
    MY PRINTER IS:
    HP COLOUR LASERJET PRO MFP M177FW
    AND I AM USING A MACBOOK PRO 2010 VERSION
    WOULD LOVE TO GET A RESPONSE FROM YOU GUYS TO HELP ME OUT,
    KINDEST REGARDS,
    W3 GUD

    Hi @W3GUD ,
    I see that you would like to set the printer to print with just the black toner. I would like to help you out with this issue today.
    Depending on which operating system you are using and what driver was installed for the printer, the Grayscale option should be under Paper/Quality.
    From the application, go to File, Print, click on the dropdown for the printer preferences and select Paper/Quality.
    Click on the Color Options dropdown and then select Grayscale.
    Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
    Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Laserjet M177fw)
    If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
    If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Identifying black and white versus greyscale in PDF

    Is there a way to identify from within a scanned PDF document (ie, something like a document property) that it was scanned as greyscale, black and white, or color?  My company is using Acrobat 7.0.  We have a requirement, for a variety of reasons, that PDFs for certain projects be provided as black and white scans only, but all too frequently we get them in greyscale or color.  We need to be able to easily identify that a PDF is not black and white.
    Thanks in advance!

    Try the Preflight Tool.

  • Why do my PRO-100 black and white prints have a color tint?

    I am printing on the PIXMA Pro-100 printer and sometimes, for no apparent reason (?), my black and white prints will have a color tint (usually a "redish brown"), and then when printing again... same print, same settings... the same print will be fine, neutral with no tint at all.
    Any ideas why?
    Also (maybe related?) I don't understand why the Photo-Cyan and Magenta ink cartridges are being depleted when I am NOT printing color, but only Black and White.  Am I missing something?  When setting up for printing I always make sure the "Black and White Print" feature is selected in the settings dialog "Quick Setup".  Doesn't this insure that only the black and grey inks are used as long as I am not "toning"?  In other words... if ONLY the black and grey inks are used, isn't the print supposed to be a neutral black and white print? Again... am I missing something?
    FYI:
    I am printing on Canon Pro Luster and Plus Semi-Gloss papers.
    Under "Options - Color Management" I have selected:
    (color handling) Photoshop Elements Manages Colors
    (image space) Adobe RGB (1998)
    (printer profile) Canon PRO-100 <LU> 1/2 Photo Paper Pro Luster
    (rendering intent) Perceptual
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    It looks like you have the settings pretty close.  But the fact is all printers use all their cartridges to print B&W.
     Whoa, why?
    Yes it is true and the reason is this.  B&W consists of 256 shades of gray. From totaly black which is 0 to white which is 256.
    If you have just one, two or three cartridges to make 256 different blacks and grays all the way to white, it simply isn't possibile.
    The ony thing a printer can do is, amount of ink and how long.  So it makes up for this by using all it's cartridges.  However, in Canon it seems like the Pro-100 tints show up more than it should.  There are dedicated B&W printers but they are designed differently to accomplish true B&W.
    The tint will be different on different papers.  You can experiment to find the paper that does best for you.  Try a more gloss type paper and see if you like the B&W.  You can try Red River papers, too.  They will assist you in picking a good B&W paper.
    You can also experiment with filters in PSE.  Adding a little blue may help.  Just give it a try.
    But the bottom line is you are no doing anything wrong.  It is just the charchter of the beast.
