Do not disconnect still reads on my nano

I've just got my nano. I've put music onto itunes then onto my nano, but after quite a while - my nano still reads 'do not disconnect'. when I selected 'eject ipod' it came up saying unable to disconnect because it contains files tat are being used in another application. does this mean that music is still being downloaded due to maybe my usb port not being the required 2 size or something?

It's quite a common error, just reset the iPod by holding down the menu/select buttons until you see the Apple logo, then disconnect it.
Incidentally, if you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • "Do Not Disconnect" still shows after iTunes is closed!!!

hello, i ahve another problem i think...
i have just Restored my iPod back to Factory Settings... and i put all my data back on my iPod... BUT... when itunes says its finished updating, my ipod continues to show the "do not disconnect" label.
when i click on the eject buttons in itunes, a message box pops up, it reads..
"The iPod "[my name]" cannot be ejected becuase because it contains files that are in use by another application".
but no other programs are running that use my iPod!!!
    whats going on???

    Hello!
    Try this:
    Close iTunes.
Go to "Task Manager", click on the "Processes" tab. (click on the "image name" tab to stop the titles from moving, if necessary).
    Find these two names:
"ipodservice.exe", "ituneshelper.exe"; End these two processes.
Open iTunes again, and see what happens when you manually eject it by clicking the little arrow...
    I hope this helps

  • Disconnected nano during "do not disconnect"

I disconnected nano during "do not disconnect"and did not follow instructions. Went to Finder and clicked on my name and eject and nano worked, so disconnected it again. Nano works fine, but when I connect it again, all that shows are the downloaded items. It won't sync, and the "do not disconnect" shows again on the nano. How do I get it to download new items and to sync?

make sure you do not have the manually manage music checked off in itunes, and if that doesnt work, try the 5 R's

  • Frozen on the words : do not disconnect

hey guys, got another problem with my nano.
I connected it to my computer. Al of a sudden a message
showed on my computer : unsafely disconnected mass storage
    device (or the nano).
After that the words : do not disconnect are frozen on my nano.
It doesnt do anything anymore. I cant turn it off. Tried to reset,
but it does nothing. Just displays the words : do not disconnect and stays light up.
I'm at a loss here!! I cant even reset it !!
    Any advice? Please!!

    Hello,
The way to safetly disconnect your iPod is by ejecting it from iTunes. If your iPod isn't showing up in the source list in iTunes, click here to learn more. If it does show up in iTunes, skip that link.
So, in iTunes, you'll see the name of your nano. Click on the arrow that's next to its name. That's the eject button. Within a few seconds iTunes and your iPod will update, and your iPod will soon return to normal screen. It is now safe to disconnect it.
    Hope this solves it!

  • Brand new nano, will not sync, still says do not disconnect

I have a brand new nano that does not seem to want to sync with my itunes. Each time I plug it in it asks me to name the iPod, which I do, then it says updating, do not disconnect. So once itunes is done updating the nano still says do not disconnect. So everytime I have to eject it properly and it never updates with the information from my itunes. It also has a bunch of orange space that it says is being used on the capacity bar and there is no information on the iPod. I have restored it back to factory settings and no luck... I have also taken it in to the Apple Genius Bar and they said it wad fixed and it wasn't so then they gave me a new one and it has the same problem...HELP!

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen is stuck on 'Do not disconnect'

I've had my iPod Nano 5th Generation for about 4-5 years and I've never really had a problem with it until now; it's stuck on the 'Do not disconnect' screen. I've tried doing the restore on the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center button then the Center and Play button to put it into Disk Mode but this has only brought it back to the 'Do not disconnect' screen. When it's connected to my Windows computer, it's appears on 'My Computer' but then it causes iTunes and 'My computer/Windows' to freeze; iTunes and Windows un-freezes immediately when I unplug my iPod. I connected the iPod to another computer which didn't have iTunes on it and was able re-format to the FAT32 (I think it was), the default one anyway, then tried to re-connect it to the first computer but it's still the same thing. I downloaded the new iTunes onto the computer which didn't have iTunes before but again when connecting the iPod to the computer it caused iTunes and Windows to freeze. I've left the iPod to completely run out of battery then tried to reconnect it but to not avail.
I've gone through so many forums and answer sites trying to find a fix but I think I've run out of options.
Is my iPod totally corrupt and ready to be replaced or is there still something I can try to get it working again?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks x

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem and can't figure it out.

  • 'Do not disconnect' - syncs never end with my Nano all of a sudden

My iPod Nano (v1.3.1) syncs happily to my Mac Mini (iTunes v7.1.1) but after the sync completes, the Nano's screen still says "Do not disconnect".
"Enable disk use" is NOT checked, nor is "manually manage music".
This is a pain, since I sync my Nano every morning to get a bunch of latest podcasts, and the Mac Mini hasn't normally got a display attached to it. (Watching the Mac Mini means turning the TV on!)
I've tried the three Rs, with no effect. I think this only happened after the iTunes v7.1.1 update. Is this happening to anyone else, or just me?

I am having the same problem and it happened after the update. The only way to safely disconnect my nano from my macbook is to drag the ipod icon to the recycle bin.

  • Nano Do Not Disconnect!

Having problems with Do Not Disconnect, as soon as I connect my Nano to the computer it goes into Do Not Disconnect. iTunes pops up and says that update is completed, but Do Not Disconnect never goes away. Been using the Nano for months now and this problem just started. Tried repairing itunes, tried resetting the ipod, have already completed the update as well. Noticed problem after trying to manual add and remove songs off ipod (which I never got to work), have switch setting back to automatic update songs and still having problems. I have ejected ipod for in itunes, but still shows Do Not Disconnect. I have also restarted my computer several times with no luck. What am I doing wrong?
    nano   Windows XP Pro

Okay so I guess my problem is not with the Do Not Disconnect screen, but with not being able to remove songs from my ipod. I tried selecting manully update songs and them unchecking the songs I did not want on my ipod, but when I do this and hit update it ups dates real quickly and nothing I deselected is removed from my ipod. Am I trying to remove songs from my ipod the wrong way? Don't want to delete the song from my library just want to remove from the ipod until i want to load it back on again. Help!

  • Nano says "Do not Disconnect"

Wondered if anyone else has had this problem - even though I have unchecked the box "Enable disk use", after the Nano has been updated in iTunes it still says "Do not disconnect". My other iPods (2nd Gen, 3rd Gen and Shuffle) all work okay.

Than I would try restoring your Ipod with the Ipod updater. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60944

  • Nano cannot complete restore...just stuck in perpetual " do not disconnect"

    Hi there,
I have tried to perform a complete restore on my Nano 4G because it stoped charging in my car. It charges fine with the usb cable so I thought a complete restore would return things back to normal. Wrong! After the restore states it is complete, I just get the never ending "do not disconnect". I left it over night, just to be sure. Even though I had a incling that it really shouldn't take that long and sure enough still in "do not disconnect" mode. What should i do? I would really like it to charge in my car again. Please help...

  • IPod nano stuck in "Do not disconnect"

My wife's new nano was working perfectly in all operations.
Now, when we plug it into the computers (more details to follow), 1) the computers don't recognize the iPd, and 2) the iPod says "Do not disconnect" (i.e., the iPod /does/ know it's plugged in to a computer.
    DETAILS:
    * we've tried this on both USB ports on each of two PowerBook G4s, each running OS X 10.4.3. The iPod software is up to date on both computers.
    * when I reset the iPod (following the instructions in the KB), it works fine when /not/ connected to the Macs
    * the iPod /does/ accept charge from the computers when connected
    * I have /not/ tried FireWire, nor have I tried replacing the USB cable. (Mostly because it seems to work OK - iPod recognizes it's connected, and accepts charge)
    Anyone?

I think this may be connected to the ongoing problem that the nano is not officially supported by OS X 10.2.8. I have that configuration, and while I seem to be able to download to the nano and play everything OK, it does get stuck in "Do not disconnect." I just get brave and eject the iPod while it's still showing that message, and everything seems fine.
I haven't seen the option for downloading photos, so maybe that does require 10.3.
I'm running a 4 1/2 year old iBook which does have USB 2.0, and the download speed seems fine.

Save all the photos from your Droid into a folder on your computer.
Connect your device to your computer. On iTunes left Pane, select iPhone under 'Devices'; then on the right Pane, select PHOTO tab.  Make sure Sync Photo box is checked, and "from" box selected the folder that has Droid's photos.  Then click the SYNC or APPLY button on the lower right window.

  • Can I download iTunes to a gateway laptop and pull up my library from it a as well? My ipod nano 7thgeneration is staying "do not disconnect" when I plug it into the USB in my truck. I am using the USB cord that it came with.

i had my iPod nano plugged into the USB in my truck about a week ago and it worked. All I had to do was press the AUX button. I went to use it yesterday in my truck and the iPod says do not disconnect while my truck says audio player not found. I called apple support and he said my iPod needs to be restored, so I need to retransfer the music from my library onto my iPod again. Downfall, I no longer have access to an apple laptop because my brother lost the cord to his. Please help.

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.
