Do Not Disturb not muting notifications for group messages in iOS 8

I have Do Not Disturb enabled for a particular group conversation. It mutes sounds for that conversation, but doesn't suppress notifications. This seems contrary to the "Mute notifications for this conversation." description under the setting. Am I misinterpreting how this feature is intended to work?

If in fact all it is supposed to do is turn the sound off but you still get notifications, that is massively stupid. You know, I absolutely love Apple products and I hate to say this, but Apple is completely losing me. They need to get this right and use their brains. If I'm a part of a group text and there are texts coming in every 30 seconds, it helps me 10% to mute the sound, but 90% to just get rid of all the notifications so I can check in on that text when I feel like it. Hello!!??

Downloaded iOS7 on my 4S. Mostly went well, but sometimes screens lock up (especially text, but also Settings). And related problem: Getting told can not connect to network when trying to sign on with Apple ID to launch Facetime and Messages.

I've restarted several times. If I restore from backup, unfortunately the backup was done after iOS7 downloaded. Now, am I wrong that "restore as new" will essentially wipe me out? If so, and having backup, you're saying essentially start over and then backup?

I have a Galaxy SIII and recently stopped receiving visual notification for text messages.  How do I correct it?

Hmmm that's strange TopDiver. Let's get to the bottom of this. Have you checked the notification settings on the device? To verify the notification setting on the device click on menu>settings>sound>notification sound, then test device notifications.

  • Do not disturb not seeing groups

Do Not Disturb does not seem to like any of the groups other than Favourites.
I have created a new group in outlook (operating through exchange server 2003), and another with the Groups app.
Neither of these show up in the Do Not Disturb list of groups to allow calls from.
Having tried the Do Not Disturb Whitelist app, which can't create a list from an exchange account, I wonder if the same issue prevents DND itself from recognising any exchange based contacts.
    Help is appreciated!
    Cheers,
    John

    John,
I'm the developer of Do Not Disturb Whitelist. The iPhone, whatever app is used, doesn't support groups when syncing contacts with Exchange. This means that no app can create or use groups on Exchange, even the apps from Apple.
    P.S.
If you didn't notice the warning about exchange on the iTunes description for our app, ask a refund here: www.apple.com/support/itunes.
    Hope this clarifies.

  • Getting notifications for groups, based on administrator attributes

We have multiple development teams who want to subscribe to notifications that are relevant to the targets that they use. We also have an operations team that cares only about notifications for production targets involved in batch jobs.
What is the approach for doing this?
We can create groups of targets (i.e. 1 group for each team. )
But we don't want to set up multiple copies of every notification rule, each tied to one of these target groups. What we would like is to have a notification rule that can connect the relevant targets to an attribute of each administrator. We can use Department or Line of Business, for example, on the target and on the administrator, if that would get us a solution.
I looked at the 'target privileges' for a user but I did not see anytihng specific to receiving notifications. (Most of our administrators have 'view' access to more targets than they would want notifications for.)
Is it possible to implement soemthing like this?
We are using Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12.1.0.2.0.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Suppose I have Red, Blue, and Green development teams, plus the Operations team.
I recognize that one approach would be:
    - Create a Red incident rule, which includes only targets of interest to the Red team
    - Create a Blue incident rule, which is just like Red but includes only targets of interest to the Blue team
    - Create a Green incident rule, which is just like Red or Blue but includes only targets of interest to the Green team
    - Create an Operations incident rule, which is just like the above but includes only targets of interest to the Operations team
and tell the Red team to subscribe to the Red incident rule, etc.
I think this is what you are suggesting. But to do this, I have created (and must maintain) multiple rules which are clones of each other, except for the targets they apply to.
I would much rather have one incident rule, that everyone can subscribe to, but notifies each only for the targets that we have somehow associated to each administrator.
Is this something that can be done? Or is it wishful thinking?

  • "Do Not Disturb" Not Working

    HelloI
I have a iPhone 4S and My wife have a new iPhone 5C.
Yesterday, we were testing "DO NOT DISTURB" feature in new iOS 7.0.6 and Unfortunatelly, it failed !!
When we are activating "Do Not Disturb" mode, it's working for Notifications (Whatsapp sound alert, Message alert, etc.) But when we tried calling on each other's mobile number, it's was ringing in stead of making it silent at the first attempt!
I am aware that within 3 minutes, If the same caller is calling me or her on again on the same mobile number from the same mobile number then it will start ringing. But we tried it, with the distance of 5 minutes everytime. I am really disappointed with the failure of the system at that time but I also thought that I might missing something because of what it is ringing.
Request you to please help me out and let me know, how does it works actually !
    Awaiting for your assistance.
    Regards,
    Darshan Chhag

    Using Do Not Disturb
Most likely it is doing exactly what the user has configured it to do.

  • Mail sending new message notifications for Old Messages

    Hi,
Since upgrading to Mavericks I've been having a ton of problems with the Mail App.
I'm running on a Macbook Pro (13-inch Early 2011 Model) with 4gb of RAM and OS at version 10.9
I have Mail connected to two different accounts 1 Gmail and one Exchange. The recently released "Mail Update" has not fixed these issues.
The primary issue is that every time I have Mail open it constantly pops up notification badges to say that I have new messages. In fact it is sending these notifications for messages that are in most cases months old. Moreover even after confirming these the next day it will repeat this for the same exact messages. I've attempted to rebuild the index by deleting the Envelope files in the Library as suggested in another discussion topic. This didn't correct the problem. The result of this beyond the annoyance of having the notifications constantly popping us is it also seem to make my system grind to a halt - while it is parsing these sometime 100's - of notifications.
I believe related to this (but not clear) is that in many cases delivery of messages to my exchange account is very very delayed. I will receive a message on my iPhone Mail app sometimes hours before it syncs into my Laptops Mail app (even with attempts at Manually checking mail.)
Anyone have any suggestions on how to repair this issue?
    Thanks a ton,
    Mark

    Try this:
Go into Preferences -> General and uncheck the box that says "Play sounds for other mail actions".
I'm not sure if it will work since that's really still "new" mail, but it might be worth trying.

  • IMessages notification for every message I received while away.. annoying.

Whenever I turn on my computer after being away for awhile, Messages likes to update/sync the iMessages I received while away. This is all well and good, except I get a notification for almost every single message while it syncs, thus resulting in about 20 little "Blips" and notification updates. Is there a way to set it up so I only get ONE notification when coming back and it syncs?
ie. "You have 56 new iMessages" vs "You have 2 new iMessages... you have 5 new iMessages... you have 8 new iMessages"

    Hi,
You could put the computer to Sleep when you were about to leave.
Then when you Wake it you would get  the "you have 56 new Messages"

  • Notifications for deleted messages showing up on Mac?

Whenever I finish a conversation on my iPad and delete it, I keep getting notifications for them on my Mac! Is there any way I can get messages to delete across all devices?

    Hi sdchaves:
I'd like to chime in here and get your voicemail notifications working again. I have a few questions for you.  When you turned on the voicemail notifications, did you do that by dialing into your voicemail box? Also, has this worked in the past? One recommendation I have to solve this is to dial *228 and choose option 1.  Once the programming is completed, please pull the battery for 20-30 seconds. Also, when someone calls you, are they able to leave a voicemail message? When you call, are there new messages waiting?  If people are unable to call & leave a message, you can dial *73 to cancel call forwarding. This generally fixes the problem.
    Keep us posted!

  • Leave button for group messaging

If Apple is looking for new ideas for the 7.0.5 software update, anyone who has ever been in a group message with that annoying person or people who agree: all they have to do is add a leave button to the iMessage group mms function.

  • Multiple Group Messages in iOS 8

I recently upgraded to iOS 8 after waiting a while in hopes that Apple would fix the basic bugs. Apparently that is not the case. I have a group chat with five of my friends that was working perfectly fine on iOS 7 but is having problems now that I am using iOS 8. The issue is that, despite having the exact same contacts, our group chats are being split into multiple chats. I have tried deleting redundant ones in hopes that they would merge back into one but it appears to not be possible.
All six of the people in the group chat have iPhones and we use iMessage to send our texts. None of us are using Apple IDs; this is done with the phone numbers.
How do I correct this problem? How do I have one thread for the group chat and not have to bounce back and forth just to read texts that are now being thrown out of order?
