Is your screen locked when this happens? Do Not Disturb only functions when the screen is locked.

I have a BB Curve 8520 and every time I sync my device with my laptop, while my address book does get synced with Outlook, my calendar does not get updated. The desktop software shows Calendar (not installed).
I have un-installed and reinstalled my desktop software but this issue continues.
    Any suggestions or advice please?
    Thanks in advance...

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is a KB that discusses that error:

  • Amber alert woke me up, despite "do not disturb" setting.

My only option is to disable Amber alerts completely.  Got a better solution?
Like many people, this Amber alert took me by surprise, all groggy with sleep.  I did not know what app it came from, or how to turn it off.  After the second jarring alert, I turned off my phone for the night.
Apple, if you are out there, please suppress the Amber alert sound during my "do not disturb" hours.

But Destine my phone does currently keep track of when I don't want to be disturbed, ie sleeping.
I wasn't given a choice to turn them off when the feature appeared. They were ON automatically.
The point is I'd like to participate in the AMBER alert program because it's important. But not allowing people to control how they're notified you'll just make them turn the alerts off. Participation goes down and all those people aren't on the lookout for that particular vehicle with the abducted child in it. Everybody looses.
If you don't want to read complaints then you shouldn't be reading discussion boards in the first place. I came to this discussion looking to see if there was some nuanace in the settings I was missing.
I've left feedback for Apple and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

  • My Do Not Disturb setting is ON and I am still receiving calls and text notifications... PLEASE HELP!

Help - I have my DND setting ON - yet I am still receiving all notifications, texts, and phone calls from numbers other than my favorites.  Please help!  Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
I have an iphone4, maybe that is the reason?

Had the same question....thanks for the concise and useful answer. Half-as**ed implementation IMO....is it that hard to imagine not wanting to be disturbed while still using the device? I use my iPad for note taking at work all the time....don't need Order and Chaos bells going off at that time. Seems obvious, but *** do I know.

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!
    Cheers!

    Do Not Disturb and Notifications
Push notifications appear in Notification Center and alert you to new information, even when the
associated app isn’t running. Notifications vary by app, but may include text or sound alerts, and
a numbered badge on the app icon on the Home screen.
Turn off all notifications: Go to Settings and turn on Do Not Disturb. When it’s turned on and
iPhone is locked, all notifications and calls are silenced, but alarms will still sound. You can set the
following options in Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb:
    • Automatically turn on Do Not Disturb: Set the starting and ending hours for when you don’t
want to be disturbed. iPhone turns on Do Not Disturb during these hours each day.
    • Allow some phone calls during Do Not Disturb: When Do Not Disturb is on, calls are silently sent
to voice mail. To allow some callers to ring through, tap Allow Calls From. You can allow calls
from your Favorites list or other Contacts groups you define. For information about Favorites,
see Chapter 25, Contacts, on page 100.
    • Allow persistant callers to ring through: Turn on Repeated Calls. If the same caller (based on
their Caller ID) calls you twice within three minutes, iPhone will ring.
Turn an app’s notifications on or off: Go to Settings > Notifications. Tap an item in the list, then
turn notifications on or off for that item. Apps that have notifications turned off appear in the Not in Notification centre

  • Do not disturb vs alarm

Does the do not disturb setting make it so alarms do not go off with ios 7?

    For iOS 7 usrs guide:
Use Do Not Disturb. To silence FaceTime calls, alerts, and notifications, swipe up from the bottom
edge of the screen to open Control Center, then tap . See Do Not Disturb on page 28.
    Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb is an easy way to silence iPod touch, whether you’re going to dinner or to sleep.
It keeps FaceTime calls and alerts from making any sounds or lighting up the screen.
Turn on Do Not Disturb. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Center,
then tap . When Do Not Disturb is on, appears in the status bar.
Note: Alarms still sound, even when Do Not Disturb is on. To make sure iPod touch stays silent,
    turn it off.
Configure Do Not Disturb. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb.
You can schedule quiet hours, allow calls from your Favorites or groups of contacts, and allow
repeated calls to ring through for those emergency situations. You can also set whether Do Not
Disturb silences iPod touch only when it’s locked, or even when it’s unlocked.

  • Do not disturb bug

Has any one else had this problem - I have an iphone 5 running IOS6 - if i turn do not disturb on the phone will not ring if someone calls - even if its not during the hours i have do not disturb set for

Figured it out - its a little counterintuitive
Turning Do not Disturb on at the highest level in Settings turns it own for all times
You want to leave that off
and under Notifications turn Do not Disturb Sceduling on and set the hours you dont want the phone to ring.
doing that will allow the phone to ring except for the hours (and exceptions) you have set in Do Not Disturb under Notifications
