Editor will not open after Elements 11 is transferred from Mac Snow Leopard to OS 10.10.2 Yosemite

I have been running Photoshop Elements 11 on a Mac with OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I've just got a new Mac with the latest OS X (OS 10.10.2, Yosemite). I transferred all my files to the new computer with Migration Assistant.
The PSE 11 seemed to install fine and the Organiser opens OK, except that I get a message saying 'Some online services are unavailable' and asking if I want to go on without them. However when I try to open the Editor it won't open, instead I get two error messages, first 'Some of the application components are missing from the Application directory, please reinstall the application', and then 'A required application library failed to open and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application'.
My questions are – should I just do a reinstall from the original disk? If so, should I do a complete uninstall of Elements 11 first? If I do a reinstall, will I lose any edits, version sets or anything else?
I had been told that I should be able to simply transfer over the PSE 11, with the original product key no. Are there any incompatibilities between PSE 11 and the latest version of Yosemite?

You can never, never, never transfer any installed version of PSE on any platform. You must always install from scratch on a new machine. By trying to do so you have made more work for yourself. You will need to download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
which will not seem to do anything, but is a necessary step to break the links within the program. Then you can go around and manually remove everything related to PSE that you can find, not only from Applications, but also from your username>library>preferences and the library at the top level of your hard drive>application support>adobe. You must go to these locations manually; spotlight will not help you with this type of search.
Then you can reinstall from your original media or from the download here:

Photoshop CS2 in Mac Snow Leopard: faint, pale colours when printed

I used to use Photoshop CS on my old PPC eMac with OS 10.4.11 (Tiger), and printed succesfully on good quality glossy photo paper using an Epson Stylus Photo R340 printer. I have now upgraded to an Intel Mac mini with OS 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion). I am afraid I cannot afford to buy the latest version of Photoshop, so I have installed Parallels Desktop and, within it, Snow Leopard Server, so that I can run Photoshop CS2.
I have now got the correct driver for my printer and all the printer and paper profiles. Using exactly the same profile and other settings that I used to use with Photoshop CS on my old computer, when I printed a TIFF image, the results were a print with extremely pale, washed-out colours. When I used the 'Preview' feature of the printer software, the colours looked good, but when I printed they were hopeless.
I don't think it is the printer. If I set the Photoshop output to let the printer determine colours, I get quite good results. But when I switch to letting Photoshop determine colours, I get these impossibly pale colours. I have checked through all the preference settings of Photoshop CS2 and cannot find anything that might account for this misbehaviour. I should be most grateful for any help or advice.

Since posting the above, I have made a discovery. I looked up the system requirements of different versions of Photoshop. Here is the relevant part of Adobe's list:
This suggests that CS2 will not run in Snow Leopard (OS 10.6)! But it also suggests that CS will not run in Tiger (10.4), and I used CS succesfully for years in Tiger on my old PPC computer. So what does all this mean? Are these minimum requirements? In that case where can I find the upper limits? Is CS2 supposed to run properly in Snow Leopard?

Hi all. I recently upgraded my computer to a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. Previously i had a windows running acer. Just before my acer crashed i bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. Unfortunately this is not compatible with my Mac. I was wondering if there is anyway to get a download which will make it compatible (I don't even know if such things exist) or if i'm able to download a Mac compatible version and use my old serial number? or am i stuck having to fork out to buy another copy? Please help....

but to answer your question Adobe does not make software that will run on both platforms its either or. you will need to buy a Mac version.

don't know much about how Premiere and AE access access the footage, but I'm pretty sure it's different engines - Premiere uses Mercury Playback Engine http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/2011/02/cuda-mercury-playback-engine-and-adobe- premiere-pro.html which is not available in AE.
Now, for a few things that might impact performance with previews and renders in AE:
-if you use highly compressed footage (like mts or MPEG or H.264) it takes longer to load your project. If you have MP enabled, AE starts background copies of itself and every copy must load the project again - so, if you have 4 additional threads enabled, every time you hit RAM preview or render, AE must load your project 4 times. That's why I usually have MP off for previews, only enable it for renders.
- When doing a RAM preview, AE must decode your footage into RAM as uncompressed representation of your video, at the quality settings for the preview - lower quality thus means longer previews. The speed of the preview depends on the speed of decoding. From experience, clips with inter-frame compression (the ones that have a setting for "keyframe every x seconds", like H.264 or MPEG2 or the likes of Xvid) take longer.
- obviously the size of the files matters too, so if you would transcode your footage to QT uncompressed that would also slow you down.
In conclusion, if it's a project that requires a decent amount of work hours, transcoding your footage might save you some time and headache. I use Avid DNxHD, but ProRes 422 HQ should do too, it's a good compromise between file size and quality. Just don't use MPEG. Also, if you don't need audio from the footage, just discard it.
P.S. mts is actually MPEG2, with some restrictions applied at encoding - just like DVD files.

Photoshop by itself cannot process raw image data. That is why the Camera Raw plug-in was developed. You could try the DNG converter and convert your images to the DNG format and then the Camera Raw that you have would be able to open them. I can't recommend Lightroom because you are using Vista, and Lightroom 5 cannot be used with that operating system. It may be time for you to get a new computer and upgrade your software.

Raw support is version specific. There is no way to simply force install a new version of ACR into an older Photoshop. You need to consider upgrading or use the DNG converter.

Have you tried resetting at launch (cmd+opt+shift)? That card and 10.6.6, ostensibly, should work. My older ATI 3870 on 10.6.6 works. I don't have an iMac to check with just now, but hopefully can take a look next week.
