  • MacBook does not see internal hard disk

Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, but I have searched so many forums that my head is swimming!
My boyfriend connected a new USB drive to his MacBook, formatted the new disk, copied some backup data onto it. At some point, the MacBook hung, so he held down the power key until the MB turned off.
Each time we restart it now, we get the flashing-folder-with-question-mark, and Tiger won't boot.
I have tried almost all of the tips I can find, and was even willing to reinstall OS X, however... the MacBook does not appear to see it's internal hard disk. As such, I cannot perform first aid on the disk via booting to setup DVD, and I cannot reinstall OS X.
If I boot from the OS X install disk, and use Disk Utility, the MB only sees the CD-RW/DVD-RW drive and the install disc. No internal HD ever shows up.
Help! I am at a loss as to how to fix...

Let me guess: you're also experiencing a low clicking noise from the right side of your mac immediately after you turn it on, right? Same thing happened to me and others, in fact there are several threads on this subject already:

My drive was done for, and no data could be saved. I ended up buying a new drive, and now I'm just hoping the same thing doesn't happen again. I'm beginning to get a sense that this problem is occurring on a more frequent level now that the 1st generation macbooks have reached their 1-year birthday, give or take. Let's hope Appel fesses up if it is indeed a design flaw.
Anyway, you most likely need a new drive. I just got a Hitachi Travelstar 250 gb for around 200$US, so they're quite cheap, and VERY easy to install, just 3 screws, slide it in, boot up, run disk utility, erase/format and you're good to go.

  • DL385 G2 not seeing 4 hard disks

We have an HP DL385 G2 with an HP Smartarray P400 slot 1 and 8 hard drives (7 are in use).  We did a server reboot yesterday and then 4 hard stopped working (partition not visible to ESXi and red LEDs on the drives).  When we do F8 during boot to get into the RAID configuration we see that 4 disks are showing up as "missing" as if that "Port 1I" on the controller is bad.   The server boots fine to ESXi loaded onto logical drive #1.
Please advise on how to recover my logical drive #2?
I reseated the 4 "missing" drives but that didn't help.  Can I replace the P400 controller or something?

  • Imac will not see my hard drive on start up, wants to start from network start up disk that does not exist. How to get rid of it? So there is just one choice / my hard drive.

I have a Intel duo Imac. Everything has been running relatively smoothly for a few years now. All of a sudden my computer will not start. I get the flashing folder with a question mark.
When I go to Start up disk in my system perfernces while the computer is on. I see 2 possible choices. One is my hard drive with the operating system shown. The other is a non-existant Network Start up disk with a question mark in it ( looks like a hard drive with a question mark and it say's its a "network start up disk).
All I think I want to do is get rid of the Network startup with the question mark. I can not find anywhere how one can just remove an old or non existant start up disk without reformatting.
I believe this came from a clients hard drive who had a network system on it. We no longer have that drive. It no longer exists. But a latent icon shows up in start up disk.
When I go to change the start up disk. I can change it to either the hard drive or the network with the question mark. But when I select my hard drive and then got to restart the computer. I get the flashing folder with a question mark on start up. I have also seen the flashing globe a couple times.
When I attempt to run disk utility from may install disk ( holding down "C" on start-up ). Disk utility does not see my hard drive. Just the Apple install disk with the disk utility on it.
What can I do to remedy this short of re-installing? Will a program like Disk Warrior or Tech Tool help?

Thank you. That's what I thought will need to happen.
One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know?  It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.
Just trying to put a band-aid on it for another couple weeks.

  • Setup did not find any hard disks installed in your computer

OK, I spent about 30 minutes looking for a solution to this and haven't found anything. I'm too lazy to keep looking, and I need to get back to work...
    Setup info:
    -Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    -Dual 3.2Ghz processors
    -32GB RAM
-RAID Card with four 1TB drives attached (RAID 5 with two volumes: one Mac OS X 10.5.3 and one Mac OS X Server 10.5.3)
-320GB SATA drive that originally came with the unit in hard drive bay 1, now installed in the 2nd optical drive bay and connected to the 5th internal SATA port. It's partitioned with BootCamp: 32.88GB for Mac OS X 10.5.3 (installed and running, used to create the BootCamp partition) and 264.71GB available for Windows.
    Windows install disc:
Took my Windows XP SP1 install disc and used nLite to slipstream SP2 and SP3 and burn a new install disc.
When I boot into the Windows install disc, everything goes fine, until it actually gets to the part where I should be selecting my hard drive (Hit Enter to Install Windows) for installation. Instead , when I hit enter, I get the message that "+Setup did not find any hard disks installed in your computer. blah, blah, blah, hit F3 to restart.+"
I'm assuming this is a SATA issue and that I need to get a SATA driver slipstreamed into my install disc so that the Windows installer will see the SATA drive.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Everything I've read says that that won't work because I have the RAID card.
Sounds like I'm out of luck, if BootCamp can't be installed on a SATA drive not connected to one of the original 4 bays.
Also, I'm concerned about taking the RAID drives out (I'd have to take all 4 out or it corrupts the RAID setup when I stick the one back in) then putting them back in and having everything return to an All Good status.

Hello, I changed my Imac hard drive which no longer worked. I installed a hard drive
Western Digital 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA3 WD5002AALX 32M Black. Sometimes I see the hard disk in the utility on the Starter CD, but access seems very slow. By cons when I want
install OS X 10.4.2 on the hard drive, I do not see the disk. What is the problem?

    Thanks for the help
I started on the installation CD OS X 10.4.2, I used Disk Utility
to partition the disk according to the document that you have proposed. unfortunately
I have not succeeded. When I partition the disk, even if I called it Macintosh HD, it
does not keep the name and it shows disk0s3 instead. I did an erase on disk.
When I mount the disk it tells me that I must repair. When I tried to repair, I got
    the following message:
    Volume check failed
The underflying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
    I also had a message:
    Invalid b-tree node size.
Note: The disc is new, but it has already been formatted on a computer Imac 27 inch 2011 OS X Lion.
I used a USB 2.0 to SATA cable to adjust the formatting.
What to do to fix it?

  • Help!  My iMac doesn't see the hard disk!

My old, reliable iMac (the old sunflower flat panel) suddenly froze up and when I did a hard break and restarted it, the dreaded folder with a question mark appeared.
I tried starting it from an installation disk--which it did with no problems except it still didn't see the hard disk. I tried inserting the Apple Hardware Test disk, which worked. I ran it and it said everything was OK, but when I hit the Restart button it still didn't see my hard drive.
I'm at my wit's end because, being a freelancer, I have a lot of important information on my iMac, which I stupidly haven't backed up for a long time. I have a little hope because the Apple Hardware Test ran and didn't find any problems (the Mass Storage test passed, which I'm assuming is the hard disk?).
PLEASE! Can anyone help me? My main objective is to get my data off of the disk and onto either my PowerBook or my external USB hard drive.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Karin

Are you saying your drive did not show up in Disk Utility? Did you Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.

You can retrieve data using Target Disk Mode to your PowerBook. That's if the drive shows up.

  • Setup did not find any hard disk drive in your computer

I have an old Compaq Presario 7598 Desktop (Windows XP) which I use as a backup machine. Recently when I tried to start it I am getting "Unable to access hard disk,. Operating system not found on any devices". Then when I tried to start with XP Boot Disk (CD), I am getting "Setup did not find any hard disk drive in your computer".
Can someone help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks.

Repeatedly tap the F10 key at boot, you should see information for the hard disk.

  • The storage where the virtual hard disk is located does not support virtual hard disk sharing. (Hyper-v / Windows 10 Enterprise Tech. Preview)

I am attempting to create new virtual machines in Hyper-V on Windows 10 Enterprise Tech. Preview and I am continually getting the error "The storage where the virtual hard disk is located does not support virtual hard disk sharing.". I am not trying
to setup a shared VM or VHD, just a basic VHD.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

This issue is listed in the release notes and currently there is no fix on our side. Have to wait for the next build.
    "Known issues in Build 10049
If you have Virtual Machines hosted on your PC running Windows 10, you will want to move to the Slow ring and wait for the next build as this build breaks the ability to run VMs. "
The statement is miss-quoted. It was about Hyper -V. An update KB3053898
    was released to fix that
    See the blog
    Here :
excerpt........notice the statement has been crossed off in the blog.
UPDATE: You cannot enable Hyper-V on this build. If you have Hyper-V already enabled and you upgrade to this build, Hyper-V will continue to work. <del>If you have Virtual Machines hosted in Hyper-V on your PC running Windows 10, you will want to move

  • IBook G4 not seeing the Hard Drive

My iBook G4 does not see the hard drive. When the computer turns on I get the flashing smiley face in the folder. When I put the disk for the computer in then the computer starts up but cannot see the hard drive so I cannot get into anything. I even put the computer in safe mode to see if I could get it to work and I couldn't. I had a friend who works on computers look at it and he said I needed a new hard drive. So I changed out the hard drive and the computer worked fine for 3 days and then it did the same thing. I'm not sure if there's a problem with the logic board or really what is wrong with it. Please help

This seems to suggest that your HDD may not be the problem. Try the old HDD you removed by putting it in a firewire enclosure and connect it to the computer and see if you can boot the computer from it. I experienced a similar issue with a iBook G4 which is detailed in the thread Could it be the logic board?. Your issue may be different, but the thread may give you some ideas for troubleshooting.

Are there anyone who encountered creating a database using DBCA with ASM as file system?
Our issue before is in both nodes the DBCA did not see the ASM disk group.
But after setting the TNS_ADMIN in both nodes and running the DBCA as administrator in Node 1, the DBCA able to see now the ASM disk group. Unfortunately, in Node 2 it didn't work out?
So we didn't know why is it from Node 2, the DBCA still didn't see the ASM disk group?Since it is both the same.
