*DO NOT* throw away the N95 CD !!!!!!!!!

When I originally purchased the N95 (SIM Free) I was told by the sales guy to throw the CD away as there was a newer version of PC Suite on the internet.
Since I'm technically able and already owned a Nokia mobile I knew I had the latest version of PC Suite installed so I put the CD aside (I never throw anything away unless it's junk mail).
Lo and behold a week ago I decided to try to get UPnP working (unsuccessfully) - as I couldn't be bothered reading the manual (big mistake) I kept visiting the N95 website and downloaded the online version of the manual which stated that the CD had an application which you need in order for UPnP to work on the PC end.
So - I'm installing that program now and giving it another go - as an added bonus there's a Windows Media Player v11 driver which you can use to install music onto your N95 as well !
Moral of the story ? Don't chuck your N95 CD away !
Regards,
Edward

ive got my N95-1 streaming music over wifi. and i didnt use the disc. my firmware is v21.
1) first you need to get "home media server" for the computer, available from simple center. google it. this is your UPnP client. make sure you select the nokia compatible software. install this. set it up as described on screen.
2) now you need your N95. go to tools, home media. (it has been removed from gallery in one of the updates)
3) follow the steps shown to connect to your home network.
4) click on "browse home". it will then search for your home media server. while it is doing this go into your computer version of home media and click the "devices" tab. click add new device (top left ish)
5) it should now search for your phone. your N95 should show up. mine did not first time, but after a few checks and re-searches on the phone and PC it came up. click it.
6) pretty much it now. go back into your phone, into home media, click back/cancel, and click on "browse home" again. when it finds home media server click on it. it should now come up with a list of folders you can access! these should be the same ones you loaded into the computer software so any compatable file will be in there.
7)to play music on the device, select the track you want from which ever folder you want, click the left softkey for options > play > on device. it will now stream your music*! it may take a few seconds to buffer, but it only does this on the first track.
8) your all done! works brilliantly. i have my computer downstairs, streaming music to my phone, which is connected to my stereo in my room by a 3.5mm jack, so i get my full itunes library in my room! how cool is that!?!?
note on adding music from iTunes: protected files (such as iTunes downloads) will not play on your phone. (booooo!)
but any you have imported from CDs you own or other sources that are not protected will stream and play fine.
1) to add your itunes music collection go onto your computer, go into home media server, click settings > media > add...
2) now navigate to your itunes folder. should be in my music > itunes > itunes library. you can add just some artists (or not add some you know are protected) or add the entire folder like i did.
if you know you are going to add your itunes library you can choose not to add media when you install media server. saves you having to remove media already loaded and then loading itunes folder in afterwards.
*note on streaming music: some file formats are not compatable. mp3's are, but types such as apple lossless and other non standard formats are not (unfortunately, as i have all my dance music in lossless)
there are some other cool features such as viewing pictures from your computer on your phone, and also vice versa. to view from computer go into your home media server and select pictures. it should be on the options menu to view on device, similar to playing music.
you can show pictures on your phone on the computer by going into gallery, selecting the picture you want and clicking options>show via home network.
you can use it as a remote control for your music to play from your computer as well. especially useful if you have a good sound system for your computer but no remote. you can play videos saved on your computer like this too.
i hope you all have as much success and fun as i did. any questions just ask.

No correct, you do not need iOS for FaceTime. You only needed to update to iOS 6.1.6.

Hi, I have a little problem. I downloaded a malware called Mac Protector, for my fault, and now I finally have deleted that program but I cannot throw away the relative icons (in my display). How can I do?

Where on the screen? On the Desktop? In the Dock? In the menu bar? Please post a screenshot.

It's probably just dried solution from the application of the screen protector.  You can get some safe cleaning solutions for your iPad screen.  there's iClean, Monster has an iPad safe solution........

  • Does anyone know if I can SAFELY throw away the following items ?

This may be a stupid question, but here goes :
Can I throw away, I mean permanently, "ODBC Administrator" and "NetInfo Manager" utilities to clear up a little bit of space ? I have never used these.I DO NOT wanna screw everything up, so please do not reply "yes I can" unless you are 100% positive I can ... are these vitally important ?

On my computer those two programs take up less than a total of 1 MB of space. If you are that desperate for space you'd be a lot better off even throwing away a single music file!

  • Can I throw away the stuff in CrashReporter?

I have an older iMac running OS 10.9.5 (Maverick) it has a 3.06 GHz intel core i3 processor.
My husband has a new iMac that runs via WiFi. (Sorry, I don't have the details of his machine. It's in another room and not accessible right now) I know he's running Maverick as well.
Anyway, he's had some problems with an on-line stalker. He thinks she may have planted malware, or a beacon or something on his machine.
If that's true, I suspect mine is compromised too, since his is piggybacked on mine.
Is there anything he should look for and anywhere he should look, to find out if she has planted anything?
He was looking through the bowels of his and found some things that didn't make sense. He has something called AirDrop identified in his library, but no where else. Its not on mine, that I can find.
What we both found, is in Library- Application support- CrashReporter. One named "anonymousIdentifier_DAF(a string of alphanumerics).plist" has him worried.
Each thing in the folder is a document.
I've just always been told to never take anything out of Library.
Also, there are folders he doesn't have access to. (like com.apple.TCC). I told him that's because they are used by the system and if he messes with them he'll break something.
As you can guess, I'm not that savvy, but neither is he. I don't try to fix what isn't broken, he's not so tame.
He's already had to take his machine into the Apple store to be reconfigured twice. I'm just trying to get some good information for him before he breaks it again.

  • Is the nano worth throwing away my old ipod mini?

I just bought a ipod mini 1 month before the nano came out. So now i'm feeling kinda ticked off as you can imagine.
The month that i did have an up to date ipod, i was enjouying it alot. In fact i currently have 200 songs on it and listen to them all frequently. So now the big question for me is if i should sell my current ipod mini so that i can buy a ipod nano.
Is the ipod nano worth it?

Yes. Throw away the Mini. Not literally; give it to a 7 year old just starting to appreciate music. Or, better yet, donate it to kids playing street hockey as it will glide better than a roll of electrical tape.
The nano is that good. It's that much of a breakthrough. It re-sets the bar for all portable electronics.
It boils down to light weight vs. capacity. If you can't listen to 4000 songs in a week, what's the point of carrying around an iBrick on the train, bus, or plane? Use iTunes, that's what it's for. It's there to be your library of all 4000 songs that you own. Once a week (or month) just dock the nano with iTunes and tweak your song choices a little bit.
It's like carrying around a carton of cigarettes when you can only smoke a pack a day. Lots of extra weight and complexity that can be eliminated when you can have a more simple device that can do a better job.
Ditch the Mini, grab a nano, and don't look back.
    BJ

Here's what it reads, of which I got none:
Free Delivery on TV Purchases 51" or Larger
Best Buy will provide Standard Local Delivery of your TV. Charges apply for delivery outside local delivery area. TV will be delivered into the room of your choice and unpacked. Best Buy will assemble your TV, place it on an existing TV stand, and connect your TV to a single, existing source (satellite box, cable box or antenna) within the room. HELP!

    Good afternoon FranklinAvenue,
After receiving your TV, I'm sure you were disappointed to find services normally included were not completed. I imagine this certainly lowered your satisfaction with your TV ordering and delivery experience.
With most deliveries, you are correct that basic setup and haul away of the old unit are typically included. With the information you registered with the forum, I was able to locate your order and review your services. Unfortunately, it seems that haul away was not included on the service order. This may have been due to it not being selected when placing the order, or a system error. However, the basic setup should have been completed. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
I also see that you were able to have setup and haul away completed on 1/5/15. I'm glad to see that we were able to return to complete these desired services. I hope that this experience has not negatively influenced your future shopping destination.
    Sincerely,

  • Using external mic on the N95

I've just bought an N95 and have been trying to connect an external (Shure) mic with a 3.5mm connection. When I insert it it is detected by the phone, but the only three options are Headphones, TV Out and Music Stand. Whichever I select the phone reverts to using the internal mic.
I'd like to use it to record sessions with my band, and don't see why this shouldn't be possible - anyone got any suggestions??
    Thanks in advance!
    Rob

    Hey Guys, here it is.
We've done the external mic succesfully both as a wireless solution and as wired. Using a bluetooth mic will work, but beware that there are audio conflicts between bluetooth and WiFi on the N95. So if using bluetooth, use operator connection only.
If you want to use a wired external mic, buy a 4 pole 3.5mm jack, not the standard 3 pole headphone jack. Wire the outer two connections too your mono mic, and leave the other two unconnected. That's all there is to it. Your microphone may require a power source depending on the model.
The Reuters toolkit shows a Sony ECM-MS907 mic. This is stereo and not needed as the N95 can only accomodate a mono input.
We also made an adapter to allow a wireless FM signal to feed audio via the internal FM receiver. This is great for bands or lectures. use the uadio from the mixing console and walk around the room with the N95, still getting the same clean signal.
And now a shameless plug. Visit comvu.com for free webcasting software. This allows you to broadcast from the N95 to the web LIVE and have your friends watch it live as well from a PC or their phone.
    Enjoy the Christmas present.

  • After creating a mask on a pixel layer and then throwing it away, the pixels disapper

If I create a mask on a pixel layer and then throw the mask away, the pixels under the old black mask disappear. Help! How do I fix this? I have already reset preferences. I am using the most current version of Photoshop CC 2014 on a Mac with OS 10.9.5

Or just leave the layer mask in place.  It's a valuable recourse that you might need to use again.  The layer mask exists as an alpha channel.  It's there in the Channels panel when you click on the layer that contains the layer mask.  You might want to restrict an adjustment layer to the same area, or the inverse of that area.  It's not always convenient to do that by clipping — you might be targeting a layer way up the stack.
OK, you can Ctrl click the layer if you removed the mask by Applying it, but it feels just plain wrong to me to throw a hard won selection in the dustbin.

I have the iphone 3Gs and an old Powerbookb but whatsapp is no longer functioning. Does this mean that soon I'll have to throw away this useless phone?

If Whatsapp is on your iPhone now and is not working, that would be a matter for Whatsapp support.
If you cannot install Whatapp due to iOS on your computer being to old, you can try upgrading iTunes to 10.6.3, if you haven't done so already, presuming your PB is running Mac OS X 10.5.8, which may allow you to upgrade iOS on your iPhone. If your computer is not running 10.5, then you'll need to find a retail copy of 10.5 and upgrade.
The last PowerBook was discontinued seven years ago, though, so it may be time to consider upgrading to an Intel-based MacBook.
    Regards.

I have replied to you three times now without reply. I DID NOT authorise a payment of £9.99 for NowTV. What is the solution to getting my money refunded. I think you assume I will go away after being Ignored. No I will not go away. I find now that you have DISABLED MY APPLE ID. Is this a punishment you use to anyone who takes up a stand against charges being made unauthorised on their account?. Please tell me why you have disabled my account. When will my account be restored? If not when will you refund ALL my purchases made to APPLE/ITUNES? I can then move on to another brand and hopefully better customer service. After reading articles regarding APPLE ID DISABLED it appears common practice from your company to DISABLE anyone's account if they question unknown charges. Please reply with your intentions regarding  the unauthorised payment and the DISABLING of my account.

I gave my old MacBook Pro away and no longer have access to it. I didn't think to deauthorize it first. I DO NOT want it to have access to all music in my iCloud or any music that may have been downloaded sinceI gave away the computer. It now belongs to my teenage daughter, who has since been in my WI-FI area and knows that code. I had EVERYTHING removed from the computer before I gave it to her (long story), but since I hadn't deauthorized the Mac,I'm assuming even without the itunes password the iCloud material would had loaded onto her computer. My iCloud had somehow included personal voice mails under Unknown Artist that I did not want on there or shared. How can I deauthorize the Mac Laptop without having the machine available to do it on? Change the iTunes/iCloud password? I should now have my desktop computer, new PC (Aspire) laptop,Ipod Touch, and if possible my Evo 3D as well as my boyfriend's Samsung smartphone being able to access the iCloud account/library--whatever it is called. HELP

Thanks, I appreciate the help.  I think this is one of the problems Apple is creating by changing the OS so often. I had fomer colleagues at [a major aerospace contractor] who told me that so many original files were ultimately lost because of the deadly change in the "Save As" operation that they are now afraid of every OS update. Apple has badly damaged their support base with that very prominent company (they won't update now until they've fully examined and understand changes in the pre-conditioned nature of OS computer functions), and they are a whole lot less enthaled with Mac-related equipment/software. Can't blame them, I too used orginal files that way (as easy-to-use templates), and lost some important files before I realized what was happening (to late to revert). Companies should not have to retrain employees each time an OS gets an update, it's can be very expensive several different ways. They learned a painful lesson with that one. And because I'm now retired and don't use multiple devices, I need iCloud like I need a hole in the head... but I'm told there's no way to keep Apple out of my computer. Fortunately, because of major problems when initially installing Mountain Lion, one hold-over of the hardware/software damage I experienced was that iCloud can no longer access my computer even though everything else is working fine again. That was the only "good luck" I had as a result of that expensive nightmare.
