Do not use Lightroom for Canon 7D RAW files!

I know that Adobe says support is preliminary, but it is just horribly bad, especially on high ISO images.  I just processed the same ISO 1600 picture in both Lightroom and Canon Digital Photo Professional and the difference is unbelievable.  The Lightroom photo looks like it came from a point and shoot.
Abobe - PLEASE make something to match the quality of Canon's converter soon!   Lightroom is one of my all time favorite programs, but this just makes it unusable.

My remarks re DPP were in comparison to the 7D Beta profile. I use LR 2.5 for 95% of my work, and trying the Beta LR3,  and while I have Bibble Pro 4 & 5 Beta (not fond of either), Silkypix Dev Pro (Ok, but LR much better) and Capture One 5 Pro (very good, but uses a lot of disk space in the image directory) and doesn't have the "extras" and plug-in capability of LR.  LR is my preferred processor, but the 7D profile has room to improve.
I just shot a Halloween show with the 5DMkII and 7D, most of the shots were iso 2500 & iso 3200.  I used LR for processing all, and did a batch neat image NR after.  Final images were fine and LR is still my primary processor.

  • Photoshop CS6 No lens profiles (lens correction filter) for Canon 6D raw files

LightRoom and Camera Raw have profiles for Lens Correction and all the current available lens are  in the list for the Canon 6D raw files. BUT the Filter/Lens Correction when in Photoshop CS6 only have 2 Tamron lens listed. Odd that there are lens profiles for the Canon 6D raw files  in Lightroom and Camera RAW but not CS6 Filter/Lens Correction.
Camera RAW, LR and PS are up to date..... NOTE: I have a Canon 7D, G11 and 1D Mark II N and all their files work as expected. It's only RAW files created by the Canon 6D.
    Any suggestions.

To the right of where it says Search Criteria, click the little three-bars-arrow icon and uncheck Match Sensor Size and it should find more.

  • Why won't iPhoto '11 display CR2 tags for Canon 7D raw files

iPhoto '11 won't display CR2 tags for the raw files from my Canon 7D. I didn't have any problem with my Rebel ST or any previous version of iPhoto.
Any help to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Allan

What a pity you didn't make the clear in your initial post. Would have saved us both some time.
It might also help to clarify some terminology. What you are calling the "image file number" is the Title of the photo. When you haven't added a tite, iPhoto uses the filename.
You can easily sort Raws from jpegs as Raws are automatically tagged with a keyword on import. So a quick smart album will tell them apart.
As to why it hasn't been fixed, you will have to ask Apple that question, no one here knows and Apple aren't here.

  • Not able to open Canon 6D raw file in PS CS5! Can i Upgrade from CS5 to CS6?

I recently purchased the Canon 6D. I'm running Photoshop CS5 on my windows computer. I want to work in Camera Raw but I need version CS6 in order to do so. I'm having great difficulty getting a link to purchase the upgrade. I need help, please.

I just want to point that out for ACR is the reason I signed up for the cloud.  Which actually lowered my cost of Photoshop.  I had always upgraded to Photoshop standard to get ACR. So Photoshop cost me the initial cost of Photoshop standard $700 and around $100 a year for upgrading.   Now Photoshop cost $120 a year but it for the extended version of Photoshop and I could also Lightroom if I wanted.
Some day maybe I will need Lightroom.   Adobe keep changing Photoshop removing features like Web Galleries and Picture Package, Add things to the Adobe Bridge like poorer Web Galleries and the export panel where panel convert image files to jpeg without opening Photoshop. Add features like Oil Painter to Photoshop then removes Oil painter  make Bridge output module an optional download removes the export panel from the Bridge and put an export feature in Ligthroom.
ACR is well integrated into Bridge  as a plug-in and in Photoshop as a plugin and filter.  Bridge also works well with other Adobe Applications according to some thing I have read.  Lightroom on the other hand is not well intergrated with Adone Applications like Photoshop.  Lightroom can use external programs like Photoshop to enable  users to edit image in ways the Lightroon can not however the image files then are not compatible with lightroom   you would need to save flatten image file to use with lightroom and loose your work layers.  I don't waste my disk space  with lightroon  and it huge library database system.  I don't run a Photography Business I'm a retired men of leisure...

  • Not able to open Canon 6D raw files in PS CS5.1 Extended Version 64 Bit

Hey there. I'm using Photoshop CS5.1 Extended Version 64 Bit. I want to work with raw pictures, shot on a Canon 6D. I have to install the camera raw plug in. But It doesn't work. Could somebody help me please? It's very important too know it soon.
    That's how the error's called
    Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update

    Hi R.reiffer,
Cannon 6D requires a minimum of ACR 7.3. If you are using Photoshop CS5.1 i would advice you to use the Adobe DNG converter to convert the images and then use it in Photoshop.
Use the below link to download the DNG converter.

  • Is there a download for lightroom2.7 that will allow it to use camera raw for a Canon T3i raw files?

Thank you for the imput.  I don't know what you mean when you say LR doesn't use Adoble Camera Raw.  My LR2.7 is able to process raw files from my 20D.  I don't care if it does it with ACR or some other processing software.  The issue is whether whatever software is used by LR can be updated to deal with new camera raw files.  It is pretty annoying if it cannot be.  I would even pay a reasonable amount if that were necessary.
ACR is a plug-in for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements which enables users to work on raw images from supported cameras. All of that technology that is in that plug-in is part of the Lightroom program, the plug-in is not used by Lightroom. ACR must be updated approximately 4 times each year in order to add support for new cameras and to make other changes in the plug-in. In order to get those changes in Lightroom, it is necessary to upgrade the entire Lightroom program. Interim releases are made available to Lightroom users who have purchased the program. For instance, if you purchased Lightroom 2, then versions 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc. are all available to you at no cost. But when Lightroom 3.0 is released or 4.0 is released, then it is necessary for you to purchase an upgrade in order to continue to get the updates.

  • Adobe Lightroom 5.7 does not recognize Canon 60D raw files. I have Camera Raw plugin 8.7 installed. Is there solution?

Neither Bridge CS6 or Lightroom 5.7 can recognize Canon's raw file (Canon Camera 60D).
This only started a few months ago without any change that I made to the system
    Any clues?

Is this only when reading CR2 files on the camera memory card or also for CR2 files that were previously imported to your hard drive (i.e. ALL of your 60D CR2 files)?
LR 5.7.1 is only at Camera Raw 8.7. so OK. What Bridge, PS, and OS versions are installed? In Bridge go to Help> About Bridge
From inside Bridge launch any raw file and check the ACR version:
From inside PS go to Help> System Info and check PS and OS version:

  • How to open canon 70D RAW files in Lightroom 4?

I have udated LR 4 to LR 4.4. It is supposed to open the newer Canon camera RAW files like the 70D. After updating with the download from Adobe LR ver. 4 will still not open the 70D RAW files. Does anyone have any suggestion? I must be doing something incorrect or am missing a step to the update. Thanks!

Not so, 70D support was added in Lightroom 5.2 ... Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
You have a choice to upgrade to Lightroom 5.6 or use the DNG convertor to convert the CR2 files to DNG and import.

  • I can not import in Lightroom 4.4 any RAW-file from my D600. Lightroom gives no picture.

I can not import in Lightroom 4.4 any RAW-file from my D600.  Lightroom gives no picture.

    How long have you waited?
When I connect my D600 via USB and import in Lr it takes a long time before the image thumbnails are displayed in the Import Dialog.
I know that using a card reader would probably be much faster (you gotta try that!).
In the meantime I just do something else for 5-7 min (read e-mail, get a cup of coffee) and thereafter the thumbnails are displayed and import is straightforward.
And I do have a powerful and fast system.
So, somehow Lr and the D600 are slow to begin "talking" to each other.

  • Lightroom 5.5 Canon 5DIII raw files misinterpreted

When I import Canon 5DIII raw files into Lightroom 5.5 some of the file end up with rectangular areas of garbage, often diagonal lines.
The problem is generally remedied by importing the file again.
I use Downloader Pro to get cards from the CF card and then import into Lightroom.
I have tried different memory cards but doubt this is the problem because reimporting same file generally solves the problem.

My guess is that the files are corrupted—part of the raw data is missing.  The slight curvature of the border is due to a lens profile being applied.
If the situation can be fixed by redownloading the file, then something must be happening in the transfer.
If this cannot always fix the situation then perhaps the card is bad and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.  If downloading the file multiple times always results in exactly the same corruption then I’d guess the image is on the card that way.  You can try using another way to download like Explorer or Finder, and see if the same situation happens.
If you want to upload one of the files that LR says is corrupted, others can test it to see if it is also bad on their systems.  Sometimes a computer’s memory is bad on the image will only look bad in LR, but usually this manifests as things streaks and spots, not a block in the corner.

  • Some Canon CR2 RAW Files Will Not Open In Elements 8

I use a Canon 7D DSLR.  Up until 30 minutes ago I never had a problem opening Canon CR2 RAW files in Photoshop Elements 8.
Some files still open others do not.  I can think of only one thing.  I was shooting a large number of frames and reduced the RAW Image size down from RAW Large Only to RAW Medium with Small Jpeg to give me more room on the Compact Flash Card.
The Large RAW only CR2 files open fine in PSE 8, the Jpegs open fine, but the smaller sized CR2 files will not open and I get a wrong file type message in PSE8.
Any ideas why this would happen?  I suspect it is a function of the camera setting, but all RAW files download as CR2 files.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter.  Needless to say I am resetting my camera back to Large RAW files only.
    Alex

ACR 5.x only supported full-sized 7D RAWs, but ACR 6.x supports 7D mRAW and sRAW, so just update to the latest version of the plugin, following the PSE-specific instructions:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
sRAW and mRAW files are not RAWs because the camera has already demosaicked them to RGB and encoded them as lossless JPG.
Here is technical information on the reduce-sized RAWs:

I have used lightroom for ~2 years and have lightroom 5.5 installed on a PC. Yesterday evening I uploaded a new set of photos which I cataloged and rated as usual. After that when I switched to the develop module trouble began. First thing was when using the crop tool the picture would disappear and only reappear once I closed the tool. Then exposure and White balance changes would change the histogram but not the appearance of the photo. Finally clipping was also not appearing on the picture. I first reuploaded the photos. No effect. Then I reinstalled lightroom. No effect. Help please!

Photoshop Elements Organizer 9 will not read in Canon 70D raw files. All updates have been made.

The Canon EOS 70D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.2 (the plugin used by Photoshop Elements to read Raw files)

Camera Raw 8.2 is only compatible with Elements 12 and later. It is not compatible with Elements 11 or earlier.

  • Using Lightroom for Event Photography

I use Lightroom for my entire workflow at events that I cover where I will import from multiple memory cards throughout the day.
One of my basic Import Settings will achieve 90% of what I need but I will still spend time with every customer, helping them choose the photographs that they want printing and I will crop, make adjustments etc.
This is fine until we get busy, then it is harder to spend the quality time with each customer.
    My question is this:
How can I change my hardware setup so that I can have two or more laptops - or even tablets - where I can share these images for viewing with all synced adjustments etc.?
I can setup a local adhco network but i can not sync to the CC servers.
My competitors often have multiple screens where customers can browse, choose and even print images they want to buy.
I have tried simply exporting files to another laptop and viewing in a photo browser but this is clumsy, not ideal and takes up too much time.
i understand there are database issues preventing me from sharing a single catalogue but there must be some way I can do this.
I hate having customers waiting and sometimes leaving because they can not see their photos.
    Thanks for any help
    Darren

Even if I just click the Printer button to verify my settings I should then return to Lightroom, and then click Print to start the job.  This does not happen, the job starts as soon as I close the properties dialog box.  Again, is any Lightroom processing or control being bypassed because of this?
