QuickTime formats require QuickTime be installed.
Real Player can also view most QuickTime formats as can VLC.

iTunes says I need to install Quicktime.  When I clicked on MORE INFO, the Quicktime download is for Windows 7/Vista.  I have Windows 8.  I can play all movies except Dirty Dancing, altho I can play the extras...  Do I need to install Quicktime?

Either you don't have a SIM in the phone, which is required for activation, or you have a phone that was probably hacked to unlock it.

    B) Where EXACTLY did you get the phone?

quicktime wont play my video cd's. when i drag and drop... it says there is an error opening it up.

Quicktime has it's limitations and can't, natively, play certain video formats.
Try VLC.  It should be able to play anything you throw at it.

  • Quicktime not playing certain .mov files

I have a situation where Quicktime isn't displaying anything on a particular .mov file on the internet. The quicktime control pops up, and starts playing, but there is no image or sound. I'm using a PowerPC mac with Quicktime 7.1.2 and OS 10.4.7 on an eMac. I'm able to view other quicktime files. The same mov file works fine on another Mac in our house, which has identical software (Quicktime and OS) except that it's a newer intel Mac. Any suggestions?

Open the "QuickTime" and "Internet Plug-Ins" folder in the main Library of both computers and compare contents to see if the working platform contains additional required components or lacks any that may be causing a conflict.

  • QuickTime Not Playing Purchased Movies

I've noticed that movies I purchased in iTunes, aren't playing in QuickTime. Is there a way to fix this?

Default player for the .m4v file extension is iTunes.
Right click (Control click) on the file and use the Open with: menu to chose a different application like QuickTime Player.
Use the Get Info window to change the default open with app.

  • Quicktime isnt playing the movies

I downloaded some movies and i opened them in quicktime, then it says to download the appropriate components, so i do that (DivX AND Xdiv) and then it still isnt working, no audio or video is being processed. HELP!

Try posting in the QuickTime for Mac forum. You'll be more likely to get help there than you will here in the QuickTime for Windows forum.
When you repost, it will help if you can provide more information about these movies; the format, the place from which you downloaded then. Anything which can help people determine what you'll need.

  • Quicktime not playing full movie

Thanks in advance for responding. About half of the movies I download Quicktime will only play less than a minute of even though they are 15 minutes long. Any suggestions?

The usual cause of this symptom is that someone has merged a number of mpeg files incorrectly and QT is not recognizing the timeccode of the out-of-standard file. This freeware may be able to correct the time code and save as a standard mpeg so QT will play it all the way through:
    http://www.squared5.com/
VLC is a little less picky about standards and chooses to ignore the incorrect timecode of the mpeg.

  • Quicktime wont play my movies....

I recently downloaded the uprgrades for quicktime, but now when I visit websites and I save the .mpeg formats to my comp, when I go to open the movie I get a message that quicktime cant read the file and leaves a number(-2048). How do I continue to download and watch my movies???

To identify the file*, video and audio** format of a movie or sound file:
    QuickTime Player:
    Open the file
Window menu > Show movie info
    Look in the Format: field
**Note that recently someone posted in the forum that QuickTime Player failed to display any audio information for a file which did play with audio (A52) in VLC.
    MPlayer OSX:
Show the playlist window if it isn't already visible.
Drag the movie file into the playlist window.
Select the movie in the list
Click the "i" button for info
    VLC:
    Open the movie in VLC
    Window menu > Info
Click the black triangles so that they point down
*Note that VLC does not display the file format, only the format of the content (audio and video) within the file. A file ending in .divx for instance, is probably in actuality an avi file but VLC doesn't show that information - MPlayer will and QuickTime Player will - if - QuickTime Player will open the file to begin with.

    Here it is.
I have two videos: bending.flv and lifting.flv (I also have

  • Quicktime Broadcaster Play quick time movie

Can Quicktime Broadcaster play a .mov video file... or can it only use camera inputs?
CamCamX has the ability to play video as if it were the isight camera... but this software is more than I need. I just need to play one video through Broadcaster.
I want to use broadcaster as opposed to the server because most days I do a live broadcast through broadcaster. On days that i do not I just want to play a prerecorded file. But my viewers will come to the same link so I want to use the same application.

The file must meet the following specifications to play correctly.
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    -or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
You may need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

  • QuickTime wont play .mov file

Does anyone know why QuickTime wont play a .mov file from an iLearn 08 training DVD. It would not import into iMovie, which is what the file was for, iMovie training. When I try to play it tells me that QuickTime does not have the software to play the clip then directs me to the quick time components page. The file has a 1920X1080 dimension and it has a HDV 1080i60, Integer (Big Endian) codec. I have downloaded various codec packages for quicktime such as flip4mac, perian, etc. Can any one help me out?

    Hi,
I actually did contact the publisher and they were very helpful. Here is a copy of the email they sent me. It should solve your problem. Good luck!
Thank you for contacting Peachpit Press. We apologize for the errors with
these files. The QuickTime clips used in chapters 5 and 6 were encoded by
the author using the HDV 1080i60 codec. iMovie 08 only works with the 1080i
codec. At the time this book shipped, iMovie 08 was not available for
    testing.
New files are available at peachpit.com here:
    http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321502671
Click on the Updates tab and the page will refresh, showing you the
replacement files. You may also request a replacement DVD.

  • Playing other than Quicktime mov files

How do I get Quicktime to play Windows Media files in a full screen mode. I have the Flip forMac plug in but can't figure out how to change the settings to full screen mode. I also downloaded Windows Media Player 9 but can't figure out how to get files to work on that. I downloaded Real Player and got it to work in the settings but not WM files. Does anyone know how?

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Why does the new Quicktime NOT play my old MOV files?

    Hi Folks.
I'm using the lasted updated Yosemite on a 3-year old iMac.
Back in my early iMac days (3 years ago), I imported my camcorder's AVCHD files
into iMove or Final Cut Express and converted them to Quicktime MOV files.
Turns out they were rendered by Apple or Final Cut into MOV files using the
Apple Intermediate codec.  I had no choice over this.
Until I upgraded to Yosemite, I was able to preview any of these movies
very easily in the Finder.  Simply highlight the movie, press the spacebar,
and it opens, in a real-time, real-size screen, with a simple play-pause button
in the progress bar at the bottom.  Never had a problem with any previous
    Mac OS.
Now when I click on the file in the finder, instead of a movie preview, I get a
big, silent QT "Mov" icon that just sits there looking silly.
I double click it to open it up in Quicktime, and it attempts to go through this
lengthy conversion process, taking at least as long as the movie is in minutes,
then asking me if I want to save this new "converted" version.
Fortunately, I have an old version of Quicktime 7 on my Mac, and QT 7 opens it
and plays it no problem.  No "conversion" necessary.  No cumbersome and
space-hogging needs to create a "cloned" copy, just so the new, lame version
    of Quicktime can play it.
What's up, Apple?  AIC was YOUR codec that YOUR SOFTWARE chose to
transcode into.  Now, your new Quicktime does NOT support this codec?
And your old version does?  And why might THAT be?
Really, this is so elementary.  This is not rocket science.  Just like JPG images
not displaying properly in Mac Mail now.  It begs the question "why" ...?
I mean, for the elementary preview abilities that always made Mac such a
friendly computer ... *uh* ... where is that?
And here we go, wasting hours of time, looking for fixes that should not
    have to be "fixed"...
Did I miss something?  Or did you?

Aeclay: here's a couple of ideas.  And an answer to your earlier post.
Basically two options to work with here:
Store the files as native AVCHD files... OR
    Convert the files to Quicktime
I keep two archives of my AVCHD recordings, partly for backup, and partly for Sony's ability to archive nicely in it's own native format on it's PC-friendly utility called "PMB".  (came wtih both my NEX and ALPHA cameras).   I have an old PC that I use for my complete archive; Sony's PMB utility works only on PC's and will do a good job both of archiving, providing a thumbnail database, and re-writing your choice to removable media in it's typical Sony hierarchy.
If you've only got Mac's, you can still archive your AVCHD recordings; copy them to folders named or organized to your own spec's.   AVCHD is a high-quality compression format, and they'll take up way less disk space than converted Quicktime MOV files.   You can open and play all AVCHD movies quite easily with VLC player.
The only extra trick to be aware of here is this.  The only reason you would need to preserve the intact "sony" folders (named "AVCHD" / "BMDV" etc) is is you were using Adobe Premiere as a video editor.  Somehow, it needs the hierarchical folder stuff in place to properly index the files.  Not mandatory, but helpful if  you are a Premiere user.  Otherwise, forget the weird "package" folders; just right-click (ctrl-click) on them, choose "view package contents" and MOVE the MTS files out of the Sony hierarchy for permanent storage.  Use VLC player to open and view them.
From that point on,  you have control over how you manage the files and what intermediate or end-user format you convert them to for your own use.
I'm not clear on your other question about the files that add the word "converted" on.  Of course Mac will convert to Quicktime MOV files.  Not sure what codec they're using now, likely H.264.  Anyway, don't bother converting.  It'll take up a lot of time and waste a lot of disk space.
ps. I just found this free utility on the internet.  It's called "MTS CONVERTER". I have not tried it, but it claims to be able to convert all AVCHD files to various useable formats.
Good luck!  (and happy Valentine's Day!)
